Mrs. Slides
Ms. Jean Robertson Sides of Cedartown, 67, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2008, after an extended illness. She was born in Jackson, Tenn. on Nov. 14, 1940.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Coy and Mazell Morton Robertson and her brother, Bobby Robertson.
Ms. Sides is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanna and Terry Smith, Becky and Wayne Robinson; Son, Rodney Sides; Sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Julie Sides, Randy and Wanda Sides; five sisters and seven brothers. Ms. Sides is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, May 16, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Anthony Osborne officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Polk Memory Gardens.
Ms. Sides’ seven brothers will be serving as pallbearers.

John R. Elzea

John Randolph Elzea, 60, of Ashland Drive died Sunday, July 18, 2004.
A native of Milan, Tennessee, Mr. Elzea was the son of the late John Wood and Grace Goulson Elzea. He was a retired antique arms dealer. He was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, Troop Leader of Pact#326 of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and member of A.A.R.P., and N.R.A.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Glynn Anderson Elzea; sons: Illya Randolph Elzea and Eric Wood Elzea, all of Statham.
Memorial Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2004 in Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Northeast Georgia Council Boy Scouts of America, 148 Boy Scout Trail, Pendergrass, GA 30567.

Mrs. Thomas
Mrs. Alice Dorothy Thomas, 84, of Plano, Texas, formerly of Cedartown, passed away on May 14, 2008.
She was born Jan. 14, 1924 in Cedartown, the daughter of the late George Clayton Hilburn and Velma Lee Thomas Ford.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and The Rebecca Ridgley Lodge. She formerly worked for the Crisis Hotline.
Mrs. Thomas is preceded in death by husband, Charles C. Thomas; daughter, Carolyn Cooper; and her parents.
Family survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Emory Worsham, Margie and Johnny Mason, Debbie and Johnny Williams, Michaela and Mike Kelso and daughter, Beverly Ray. Eighteen grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren also survive. Local survivors include Eddie and Vevly Hilburn, Rustin Hilburn, and Amy Hilburn Payne all of Cedartown; Frank Hilburn and Nancy Harper Hilburn both of Rockmart; and Ben Hilburn of Marietta.
The funeral service for Mrs. Alice Dorothy Thomas was conducted on Saturday May 17 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home with Bro. Max Kimball officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Northview Cemetery.

Mrs. Ward
Mrs. Martha Cecelia Ward, 91, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2008. She was born Sept. 5, 1916 in Barrow County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. A.G. Ward, Jr. and her parents, Mr. William Preston Stewart and Mrs. Elzora Missouri Burson Stewart. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Marion Stewart, Glenn Stewart, and Harold Stewart.
Mrs. Ward is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Olin Hackney; one granddaughter; one grandson and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ward is also survived by one brother, Mr. Charles Stewart.
The funeral service was held Monday, May 19 at 4 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Cedartown with Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Northview Cemetery.

Hattie Pearl Foster
1913-2004

Hattie Pearl Foster, 91, of 139 Alps Road died Monday, July 26, 2004.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Foster was the daughter of the late Ernest and Blanche Williams Gordon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy P. Foster; son, Ronnie Foster; and grandson, Wade Foster. She was retired from McClellan’s Dime Store and a member of Gordon’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, Royce Foster of Athens; grandchildren: Curtis Foster, Wendy Foster, Kelli Maxey, and Kim Foster; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 30, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in Gordon’s Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Passmore and the Rev. Luther Fouche` officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Bernstein Funeral Home Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00.

Mrs. Williams
Mrs. Shirley Elzabeth Hudgins Williams, 65, of Cedartown, passed away on Tuseday, May 13, 2008, following an extended illness. Mrs. Williams was born on March 17, 1943 in Polk County to the late William T. and Mary Allen Hudgins. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Joe Willilams, son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Donna Williams, daughters and sons-in-law Judy and Jimmy Garner, Lizand Greg Hulsey, Jonnie Lynn Waters, daughter Marie Kincannon, brother Arthur "Red" Hudings, 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and various nices and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., from the chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home with the Rev. Lamar Gentry, Rev. Jessie Wallace and Rev. Elgin Williams officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Northview Cemetery.

Mrs. Young
Mrs. Barbara B. Young, 66, 118 Ridgeside Road, Chattanooga, TN. died Friday, May 9, 2008.
Mrs. Young was born in Anderson, SC., the daughter of the late George W. Brown and the late Alice I. Brown. Barbara grew up in Anderson, SC and attended Girls High School.
She was a graduate of Anges Scott College, Decatur, GA. and earned a Masters Degree in Social Work at Columbia University, New York City. Upon graduation from Columbia she resided in Atlanta and worked in child welfare, and child development in the Atlanta area. Upon her marriage to David H. Young III, of Rockmart, GA. she moved to Chattanooga, TN. to be with her husband and found employment as Director of Mental Health Services at Joe Johnson Mental Health Center, in Chattanooga. Later she became the Executive Director of the Mental Health Association of Chattanooga. When the AIM Center, in Chattanooga, was founded, she became its Program Director. She retired from the AIM Center in the late 1990s.

A graveside service for Mrs. Young was held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13 in the Rockmart Memorial Gardens, in Rockmart GA. with Rev. Burch Fanning officiating.

Mrs. Polly A. Suddeth, 80, Mandeville Avenue, Carrollton, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008.
She was born in Polk County on April 9, 1928, the daughter of the late Dean Palmer and Uva Paris Palmer. She was a member of West Carrollton Baptist Church, a retired piano teacher and musician where she was well known in the Carrollton and Atlanta area.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Chip Suddeth and brother, Billy Palmer.
Surviving are her husband, Paden L. "Pete" Suddeth, son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Karen Suddeth; daughters, Melodie Carroll and Shawn Megorden, sister, Gerlie Chandler, Carrollton; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hudgins
Mr. Robert Elee Hudgins, 77, of Cedartown, passed away May 21, 2008. He was born Feb. 11, 1931 in Ashdown, Ark.
Mr. Hudgins is preceded in death by parents, Newt and Minnie May Kirby Hudgins; wife, Mary Alice Miller Hudgins; son, Donnie Lee Hudgins; a number of sisters and brother and one granddaughter.
Surviving are son, Nicky Ray Hudgins; sister, Lois Sewell; brother, Raymond Hudgins; and four grandchildren. Mr. Hudgins is also survived by five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The graveside service was conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 23, at the Wimberly Hill Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. R. B. Hulsey officiating.
Pallbearers were Jason Robinson, Mark Hanson, Chris Akins, Tyrone Howell, and Ronald Couch.

Mr. Tempone
Mr. Thomas Milton Tempone, 55, of Cedartown, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2008. He was born July 17, 1952 in Polk County, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents Milton Leroy Tempone and Mary Hazel Marrs Tempone, and a brother, Edward Allen Tempone.
Mr. Tempone is survived by his wife Michele Petty Tempone; daughters, Jessica Combee and Amanda Tempone; son, Edward Tempone, sister, Dee McKenzie, and nine grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.

Mrs. Bentley
Mrs. Jeannie Marie Stone Bentley, 45, of Muscadine, Ala. passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2008. She was born Aug. 7, 1962 in Atlanta.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jackson Lloyd Stone.
Mrs. Bentley is survived by her mother Joyce Marie Stone, husband Robert E. Bentley, daughters Tia Jeannine and Tiffany Sheree Bentley, brothers and sisters-in law Jeffery and Sue Stone and Jimmy and Tammy Stone as well as three nieces and three nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 1 p.m. from Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Hibberts and Rev. Chester Pesnell officiating. Rodney Bentley, Wade Jordan, Byron Williams, Billy Williams, Timm Williams and Buddy Biggers served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Corley
Mrs. Vera Virginia Corley, 85, of Cedartown, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2008.
Mrs. Corley was born on July 4, 1922 in Sand Mountian, Ala. to the late Robert W. and Lexie Payton Fields. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Virgil Wayne Corley and Richard Cain Corley; her sisters, Hazel Greenway, Vivian Heath and Bonnie Landrum; her brother Earnest Payton and two grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil Cain "Popeye" Corley Jr.; her son, Ricky Corley; sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Donna Clay and Mickey and Kathy Corley; her daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Keith Thompson, Linda and Clifton Wood and Shirley and Billy Norton. Eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and various nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were conducted May 23, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Ely and Rev. Earnest Thompson officiating. iIntermentfollowed at the Greenwood cemetery.
