Mrs. Bessie Mae Timms Morris, 72, of Whitesburg, formerly of Douglasville, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2009, at Carrollton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Chris Merritt, of Whitesburg, Dorothy and Grady Norton, of Murphy, N.C., Janice Monroe Perry, of Carrollton, and Barbara and Ricky Young, of Winston; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Rhonna Morris, of Missouri; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dolly Mae and Richard Glowacki, of Douglasville, and Minnie Lee and Bobby Surrett, of Piedmont, Ala.; brother and sister-in-law, Buddy Thomas and Shirley Timms, of Cedartown; son-in-law, Richard Williams, of Douglasville; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 27, 2009, at 11 a.m., from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Alton Williams officiating.

Ms. Carroll
Mr. Jay Eulas Carroll, 95, of Emerald Dr., Villa Rica, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009 in Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.
Mr. Carroll was born in Paulding County on August 13, 1913, the son the late Willie H. Carroll and the late Florence Adair Carroll. He lived in Rockmart, Ga. until 1995 when he moved to Villa Rica. He worked for 18 years with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Rockmart, then took a job with Lockheed Aircraft as a machinist, helping to assemble wings on the C130 and C5A. He retired from Lockheed with 25 years of service. He served on the Polk County Board of Tax Equalization, was a member of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Rockmart Masonic Lodge No. 97 F. &A.M.; , and earned the 32 Degree in Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Rockmart until he moved to Villa Rica and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica and the Friendship Sunday Sunday_School Class.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice Browning Carroll; sisters, Lene Leggett and Lunice Garner; brothers, Jack Carroll, Snoie Carroll, Lovie Carroll, and Chester Carroll; grandsons, Benjamin Scott Carroll and Adam Woodall.
Surviving are his wife of 13 years, Earline Carroll of Villa Rica; children, Kenneth W. and Deanna Carroll of Waycross, Sheila and Robert Woodall of Villa Rica, Frances and Robert Rush of Carrollton, and Ann and Danny Bracknell of Temple; brother and sister-in-law, John E. and Avenell Carroll of Decatur; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2009 from the chapel of the J. Hoyt Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Jones and the Rev. Jeff Powell officiating. iIntermentwas in Rose Hill cemetery in Rockmart.
Pallbearers included Robbie Lee, Ronnie Lee, Vic Bracknell, Larry Carroll, Mark Carroll, and Donald Browning.
Members of the Friendship Sunday School Class served as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Greene
Mr. Clarence Wallace “Poncho” Greene passed away April 11, 2009. He was born Jan. 23, 1959, in Baltimore, Md.
He is survived by son, Michael Greene, of Hagerstown, Md.; sister and brother-in-law, Roberta and Larry Keene, of Cedartown. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He is preceded in death by parents, Wallace Greene and Lenora Weiford Greene; sister, Carrie Exline Plante.
The funeral arrangements were conducted on Tuesday, April 14, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Holbrook officiating. The interment was in Resthaven Cemetery.

John Rose
1927-2004
Athens
John H. Rose, of Oak Grove Road passed away on August 4, 2004.
A native of West Virginia, Mr. Rose was the son of the late John Henry and Marie Wallace Rose. He was a twenty four year veteran of the US Navy retiring with the rank of Petty Officer. He also retired from Westinghouse and was a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife Merita Brewer Rose of Athens; daughters Judy and Debbie Rose; sisters Isabell Spence and Frankie Poole; 4 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM Friday at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Brewer and Dr. Larry Elliott officiating. Entombment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.

Mr. Wolfe
Mr. Walter “John” Gerald Wolfe, 61, of Cashtown Loop Rd., Aragon, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2009.
He was born on Dec. 9, 1947, in Polk County, son of the late Walter A. Wolfe and the late Lora Leola Robinson Wolfe. He was retired from the Engineered Fabrics Corporation and was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Vietnam War in which he was awarded a purple heart and a bronze star.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Coffman Wolfe; four sisters, Lorine Elrod, Joyce Paine, Linda Noll and Jean Wolfe; and four brothers, James E. Wolfe, David Wolfe, Harold Wolfe and Bobby Wolfe.
Survivors included a daughter, Christy Sanders and husband Lee, of Cedartown; a step-son, Kevin Dunn, of Rockmart; and other children, Chad Wolfe, Toby Fincher, Tammie Arp, Melissa Couch, Burlan Arnold, Joey Arnold, Denise Powell and Scottie Fincher, all of Rockmart; a sister, Shelia Wolfe, of Rockmart; and three brothers, Paul Wolfe, of Rome, Ronald Wolfe, of Powder Springs and Don Wolfe, of Summerville. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survived.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, April 16, at 7 p.m., in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Robinson officiating. Eulogies were given by Mrs. Christy Sanders and Mr. Toby Fincher. Brown-Wright American Legion Post #12 was in charge of military rites. iIntermentservice was held on Friday, April 17, at 10 a.m., in the Georgia National cemetery in Canton, with full military rites provided by the Southeast Navy Funeral Honors Team.

Mrs. Powell
Mrs. Jacklyne McCollum Powell, 74, of Centre, Ala., formerly of Cedartown, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2009. She was born March 31, 1935, in Polk County to parents, Jessie Naomi and Thomas Davis McCollum.
She is preceded in death by parents, Thomas Davis McCollum and Jessie Naomi Galloway McCollum; brother, Danny McCollum.
She is survived by husband, William Howell Powell, Sr.; daughter, Jena Elizabeth Powell; son, William Howell Powell, Jr.; sister, Janice McCollum Gunnell and husband, Raymond; brothers, Larry McCollum and wife, Chris, David McCollum and wife, Pat. Two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was conducted on Thursday, April 16, at noon, in the chapel of the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Locklear and Rev. Ricky Pollard officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Northview Cemetery.

Mr. Burton
Mr. Charles Richard Burton, 79, of Rome, passed away Friday, April 3, 2009.
He was born in Birmingham, Ala., on July 29, 1929, the son of the late Charles Fredrick Burton and Delera Summerville Burton. He served in the United States Army as a Sergeant in the first Calvary in the Korean War, and was honorably released June 6, 1952. He retired from Georgia Kraft Paper Mill as a Machine Superintendant after over 37 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Burton, of Rome; a son, Bob Burton, of Pensacola, Fla.; two daughters, Jeanette Hughes and her husband Jerry, of Dacula, and Barbara Odom and her husband David, of Cartersville; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 6, 2009, at 3 p.m., in the McGuire, Jennings and Miller Oaknoll Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Holt officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Floyd Memory Gardens with the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 of the American Legion Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.

Mrs. Powell
Mrs. Margie Ree Milam Powell, 76, of Cedartown, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2009. She was born Aug. 21, 1932, in Polk County.
She is survived by sister, Joyce Swafford; daughter-in-law, Barbara Powell; two grandchildren and a great-grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
She is preceded in death by husband, Edward Ernest Powell; son, Eddie Keith Powell; and parents, Estelle Pitts Milam and Hulet Milam.
The graveside service was conducted on Saturday, April 4, at 11 a.m., at Northview cemetery with Rev. Danny Tucker officiating.
The interment followed in Northview Cemetery.

Mr. Smith
Mr. Monroe Jackson Smith, 88, of Cedartown, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2009. He was born on Sept. 16, 1920, in Polk County, the son of Marion Jackson and Sara Elizabeth West Smith.
He was a devoted member, past deacon, and choir director for 35 years of East View Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving as a Military Policeman in the European Theater.
He retired from General Motors with 35 years of service.
He was a dedicated member of Caledonia Masonic Lodge #121, receipient of Master Mason of the Decade for 1989-1999, and the 2005 Master Mason of the Year. He was also a member of the Cedar Valley Shrine Club, receiving the honored title of Shriner of the Year twice. He also received the 2008 Exchange Club Book of Golden Deeds.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jewell Beatrice Powers Smith; son, Larry J. Smith, and his mother and father.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Cathy Smith; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Jim Mullen, Tammy and Timmy Odom; daughter-in-law, Diann Smith, all of Cedartown. Five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law also survive.
The funeral service was conducted on Saturday, April 18, at 2 p.m., at East View Baptist Church with Rev. Reginald Campbell officiating. iIntermentwill follow in Northview cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Brewster-Cleveland Post #86 Honor Guard and Masonic Rites conducted by Caledonia Lodge 121.

Mr. Clark
Mr. Gene Clark, age 77, of 1870 Cedartown Highway Rockmart, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born on May 2, 1931, in Polk County, a son of the late Harvey Clark and Bessie Elrod Clark. Mr. Clark had lived all of his life in Rockmart. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea. He worked for several years as a mechanic for Marietta Dodge before purchasing High Point Grocery which he and his wife owned and operated for 30 years. He was also employed by the Polk School District as a bus driver for over 31 years. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joel Clark.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Clara Ann Sorrells Clark of Rockmart to whom he was married
on May 29, 1958; one daughter, Mrs. Colleen White, Rockmart; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Sulli Johnson; two brothers: Mr. Billy Clark and Mr. Troy Clark both of Rockmart; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Hulsey officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers included: Mike Clark, Alan Clark, Shane Roberts, Bryan Roberts, Keith Roberts and T.J. White. Honorary pallbearers included: Burl Waddell, Earl Smith, Danny Dunn, Alford Potts, Mack Sullivan and Jim Mooney.

Juanita Hearn Suddath
1907-2004
Athens, Ga
Juanita Hearn Suddath, 96, of Riverhill Drive died on Saturday August 14, 2004.
A native of Sumter County Alabama she was the daughter of the late George Bragg and Abbie Sturdivant Hearn. Her husband, Lovick Pierce (Epp) Suddath, Jr., grandson Lovick Pierce Suddath, IV and brother George Bragg Hearn, Jr preceded her in death.
Mrs. Suddath came to Athens in 1926 and began a love affair with the University of Georgia and Athens. She graduated from the University of Georgia in 1930 and became a devoted Georgia Bulldog Fan. She was proud to have attended the first game ever-played in Sanford Stadium in which Georgia defeated Yale and also the first Olympics Games played in Sanford Stadium sixty seven years later in 1996. Mrs. Suddath married
Epp Suddath, the original manager of the Varsity on College Avenue in 1934, and they were married
for 64 years before his death in 1999. Mrs. Suddath was a long time devoted and active member of the First Baptist Church for over 70 years where she was a member of the M and M/Jenkins Sunday School Class. She was an avid supporter of the Democratic Party.
The family would like to thank the staff of Talmadge Terrace for all the kindness shown to their mother after she moved there in 1999 and especially the wonderful circle of friends that she came to love.
Survivors include sons Lovick Pierce (Sunny) Suddath III and wife Nina, Amelia Island, FL; and George Hearn Suddath and wife Jewel Deane, Raleigh, NC; daughter Abbie Suddath Davis and husband Jeb, Walnut Cove, NC; grandchildren John and Guy Suddath, Susannah Suddath Sisson, Abigail Davis Blake, Amy, Becton and Bragg Davis, Elizabeth Garden Penn and Robert Garden; 13 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM Tuesday at the Athens First Baptist Church with Dr. Jon Appleton and Dr. Bill Ross officiating. iIntermentwill follow in Oconee Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Bernstein from 6-8 PM Monday.
