QUILLIAN MILLSAP
April 2, 1941 - December 16, 2010
Rev. Quillian Millsap, 69, of Cartersville received his heavenly reward on Thursday, December 16, 2010. Born April 2, 1941in Cartersville, he was the son of the late Walter Harrison Millsap and the late Rachel Esther Clark Millsap. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Syble Crumbley Millsap; his brothers, James A. Bond, Hurdist Millsap, Reed Millsap, and Owen Millsap; and his sister, Grace Boston.
Quillian had retired from First Brands/Union Carbide but spent most of his life serving his calling to minister and preach. He had served as a missionary to Guatemala, and he had served as the pastor of Connesenna Baptist Church, Fellowship Baptist Church, and Peeples Valley Community Church. Quillian was currently serving as the pastor of Trinity Baptist Church.
Music was a big part of Quillian’s life. Born into a musical family, the foundation for his love of music was established early. A 1959 graduate of Cass High School, he played the trumpet in the Cass High Band and served as the band drum major. He also sang in many quartets and loved southern gospel music. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and faithful follower of Christ, Quillian will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Fletcher Millsap; his daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and Don Allred of Cartersville, Tonya and James Umphrey of Rome, and Karen and Ken Temples of Cartersville; his step-daughter, Lynn Sherman; his grandchildren, Heather Boliver, Katie Boliver, Ryan Umphrey, Hunter Umphrey, Kaleb Temples, Karlie Temples, and Katlyn Rose Temples; his brothers, Carlos Millsap and Claude Millsap; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 20, 2010 at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. David Franklin, Rev. Jerry Boston, and Rev. Chuck Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers will be Clark Millsap, Carey Millsap, Craig Millsap, Roger Millsap, Eric Millsap, Sam Millsap, and Mark Millsap. These gentlemen are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. on Monday.
The family will receive friends from 4 – 8 p.m. Saturday and from 3 – 5 p.m. Sunday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
Quillian always said he wanted his roses sent to him while he was alive. He did not wish for friends to send flowers for his funeral but requested instead that those who wish send memorial contributions to one of the children’s hospitals.
Eury Strange
December 10, 1951 - December 20, 2010
Eury Strange, 59, passed away at his home in Cartersville on December 19, 2010. He is survived by a brother, Terry and his wife Janet of Cartersville; a sister, Leslie Ann and husband Dobie of Lakeland, Florida; and two nephews, Eric Strange of Tucker, Georgia and Scott McManus of Seattle, Washington.
Born December 10, 1951, in Rolla, Missouri, Mr. Strange spent the larger part of his life in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. In Chattanooga he was a puppet performer with Kids on the Block and a longtime volunteer in the Medical Records Department of Baroness Erlanger Hospital.
Upon moving to Cartersville in 1999 he was employed for several years with the Bartow County Library System. As a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, he served on the Older Adults Committee and was a member of the Cornerstone Sunday School Class and the Sanctuary Choir.
Eury struggled all his life with severe visual and auditory handicaps, but in spite of this, he maintained an active interest in the world around him. He was both a talented musician and a remarkable artist. He was featured as Artist of the Month both at the Cartersville Public Library and at Betty’s Back Porch.
He had many friends who will remember him fondly and admiringly, but most especially these include Laurie McAfee, Mary Berthiaume, Kay Boulier, Connie Harralson, Susan Ingram, and Velma Tilley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Deacons’ Fund at First Presbyterian Church or to the Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at First Presbyterian Church.

Leonard Gordon Bagley
March 29, 1945 - December 6, 2010
Leonard Gordon Bagley, 65, of Cassville died peacefully at his residence on Monday, December 6, 2010. Born March 29, 1945 in Cassville, he was the son of the late Frank Gordon Bagley and the late Mary Linnie Adcock Bagley Lowery. Preceding him in death along with his parents are his brother, John L. “Buddy” Bagley, and his sister-in-law, Edith Blair.
Leonard was employed by American Carpet for seventeen years where he was a maintenance supervisor. He was also employed by Golden Corral for eight years as an assistant manager. Leonard’s favorite pastime was word search books and going to Gatlinburg. He also enjoyed arts and crafts and fishing. The biggest pleasure in his life was his family and traveling to Virginia for the birth of his great-granddaughter.
Survivors include his wife of forty-five years, Dianne Bagley; his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Frank Chatman; his grandchildren, Heather and Stefan McDonald and Madison Chatman; his great-granddaughter, Olivia McDonald; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Betty Bagley and Paul and Stella Bagley; his sister-in-law, Margie Bagley; his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Doug and Dot Morris and Bob Blair; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 2010 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Quillian Millsap and Rev. Leon Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Cassville Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Bagley, Mitchell Bagley, Stacy Chatman, Lewis Smith, Randy Wynn, Tony Lackey, Owen McDonald, and Patrick Blair. These gentlemen are requested to meet at the funeral home by 12:15 p.m. on Thursday.

Charles A. “Charlie” Brooks, Jr., 46 of Cartersville died Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at the Cartersville Medical Center. Born July 18, 1964 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of Dottie Abbott and Charles A. Brooks, Sr.
Charlie had a kind heart and a gentle spirit and was all about helping others. He loved his family including his dog, Susie. Charlie also enjoyed gardening, doing yard work, and getting on the computer.
Survivors include his mother, Dottie Abbott of Cartersville; his father, Charles A. Brooks, Sr. of West Virginia; his sister, Lori Megna and her husband, John, of Alpharetta; his brothers, Jeff Abbott and Steve Abbott; his nephews, Austin Megna, Tyler Megna, Matthew Abbott, and Aaron Abbott; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2010 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. John Hembree officiating. Burial will be private.

JACKSON CLYDE BEATTY, SR.

Jackson “Clyde” Beatty, Sr., 64, of Cartersville passed away Monday, December 6, 2010 at the Cartersville Medical Center. Born April 20, 1946 in Spring Church, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Harold Beatty and the late Elizabeth Carnahan Beatty. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Nancy Doborsky, Bessie Bier, and Harriet Shirley.
Clyde served his country for 20 years in the United States Navy and completed his career at Gerdau Ameristeel. He was a member of Saint Francis Catholic Church. Clyde was a story teller and was full of personality.
Survivors include his wife of forty years, Linda Beatty; his sons, J. W. Beatty, Jr. and wife, Ellie, and Matt Beatty and wife, April Yake; his daughter, Julia Beatty Litzenberg and her husband, Brian; his grandchildren, Nicole Beatty, Race Beatty, Justin Beatty, Fantasia Holmes, Riley Beatty, Justin Litzenberg, Jacob Litzenberg, and Tristin Beatty; his sisters, Eileen Runco and Jean Pugliese; and his in-laws, Harry and Julia Mathewson.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, December 9, 2010 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Father Dan Stack and Miles Chesley officiating.

March 5, 1932 - December 1, 2010
Imogene Miller Thompson, 78, of Cartersville passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at the Floyd Medical Center. Born March 5, 1932 in Rome, she was the daughter of the late Henry Hillary Miller and the late Lora Stancil Miller. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Brannon.
Imogene was a proud graduate of Young Harris Academy. She had been employed with AFCO Insurance. Imogene was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Floyd County since her baptism when she was 13 years old. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 23 years, Dexter Thompson; her children, Lori Miller of Tucker, Angela and Danny Johnson of Cartersville, and David Allen of Cartersville; a special granddaughter, Jeanna Miller of Cartersville; her grandchildren, Eric Cartee, Brad Cartee, Matthew Johnson, Zachary Johnson, Candice Allen, and Cameron Allen; her sister, Dorothy Moehrke; and two nieces, Kelli Carley and Susan Beeco.

January 26, 1931 - December 10, 2010
Ms. Doris Marie White, age 79, of Rome, GA. died Friday in a Rome healthcare facility.
Ms. White was born in Blount County, AL. on January 26, 1931, the daughter of the late Chester Clyde Freeman and Hester Mattie Bryson Freeman. She was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church. Ms. White worked for the Floyd County Board of Education as a paraprofessional and a substitute teacher for thirty-six years.
Survivors include her former husband, Harold White of Centre, AL; a son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Ruthie White of Marietta, GA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Suzette and Mitch Davis of Rome and Summer and Grant Smith of Rome; five grandchildren, Taylor White of Marietta, GA, Rachel White of Marietta, GA, Ally Davis of Rome, Britt Smith of Rome and Bryson Smith of Rome; a brother and sister-in-law, Edsel and Joyce Freeman of Birmingham, AL; a sister, Iva Lee Williams of Trafford, AL; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Freeman of Birmingham, AL. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. at the Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Horace Stewart, Rev. Billy Fricks and Rev. Gary Freeman officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. On Sunday Ms. White will be carried to the church to lie in state from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
The family will receive friends Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home.

Charles “Chuck” Doss II, 60, of Cartersville died Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at his residence. Born June 25, 1950 in Anniston, Alabama, he was the son of the late Charles Aaron Doss and the late Vivian Jackson Doss. He was also preceded in death by his grandmother, Mama Doss, his brother, Rocky Martin, and his grandson, Colby Alexander Terry.
Chuck attended Tabernacle Baptist Church and was a self-employed contractor.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Cristy Adrienne Doss, Anne and Kevin Clayton, Charles and Nicole Doss III, and Matthew Lowe; his grandchildren, Dylan Clayton, Hanna Clayton, Kendall Doss, Chaz Doss, Camden Doss, Ciara Doss, Braxton Lowe, Katie Romanstine, and Cristopher Romanstine; and his sisters, Beverly Franklin and Deborah Pharr.

Mrs. Doris Jean Powell, 75, of Taylorsville, GA, died Friday, November 26, 2010. She was a most beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She attended Floyd Creek Baptist Church and retired from Fite Living Center where she was a cook. Mrs. Powell loved to paint, read her bible, attend church, and to feed birds and stray animals.
She was preceded in death by her husband, of 58 years, William Clyde “Sleepy” Powell and her parents, R.A. and Lois M. Sutton
Mrs. Powell is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Lamar Tilley; son and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Judy Powell, grandchildren; Brian and Emma Tilley, Tina and Ricky McFarland, Rodney Powell, Kimberly and Michael Howell, Kevin and Amy Powell, great-grandchildren; Peyton Godfrey, Halley Godfrey, Amanda Morris, Justin Howell, Halley Howell, Melissa Howell, Chelsea Powell, great-great-grandson, Jason Howell; several nieces and nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law, Wilma and L.C. Mrs. Ruby Morgan St. Clair age 93, of Rome, GA, died Friday, December 10, 2010.
Mrs. St. Clair was born in Cherokee County, AL, on December 26, 1916, the daughter of the late Charles Elexander Morgan and Alice Helms Morgan. She was a member of Sand Rock Baptist Church in Sand Rock, AL. She loved her grandchildren, enjoyed cooking, and was a very hard worker and retired in 1967 after 15 years at Champion Garments and then helped her husband and son Travis in restoring antique furniture from 1970 until 2001. In addition to her parents, Mrs. St. Clair was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Travis St. Clair and a son, Charles Travis St. Clair; a granddaughter, Lisa St. Clair Culpepper; four brothers, Harvey Morgan, Walter Morgan, Bill Morgan, and Edgar Morgan and a sister, Nettie Wester.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Grady and Judy Elaine St. Clair of Rome; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Ted Norris of Rome and Lucy and Tommy Young of Rome; sixteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Eunice Canada of Rome; and a special niece, Maxine Morgan St. Clair of Rome. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel with Dr. Tony Brooks and Rev. Katrina Brooks officiating. iIntermentto follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Charles Vernon Ayers
July 21, 1928 - November 25, 2010
Charles Vernon Ayers, 82, of Kingston passed away Thursday, November 25, 2010 at the Cartersville Heights Nursing and Rehab Center. Born July 21, 1928 in Blue Ridge, he was the husband of the late Helen S. Ayers.
Mr. Ayers was a graduate of Rhinehart College and received his bachelors degree in English from The University of Georgia. A long time resident of Bartow County, Mr. Ayers was a former editor of the old Bartow Herald and a former mayor of the city of Kingston. Later he assisted his wife, Helen S. Ayers, in operating a fine antiques shop in Kingston.
Survivors include his stepchildren, George F. Willis and his wife, Kathy, of Cartersville; John P. Willis, and Helen W. Ward of Atlanta.
Private memorial services will be held for family members only. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Etowah Valley Humane Society, 36 Ladds Mountain Rd. NW, Cartersville, GA 30120.
