JOSEPH AVERY CHAPMAN, JR.
February 27, 1946 - December 3, 2010

Joseph Avery Chapman, Jr., 64, of Cartersville died Friday, December 3, 2010 at his residence. Avery as he was known to everyone was born in Rome on February 27, 1946 and was the son of the late Joseph A. Chapman, Sr. and the late Lillian Crowe Chapman.

Avery had lived in Bartow County most of his life and worked as a truck driver for ATCO Rubber Company. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam Conflict. Avery was a charter member and past commander of the Vietnam Veterans of Bartow County. He was also a member of American Legion Carl Boyd Post 42 and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W.

Avery was a member of the Euharlee Masonic Lodge 457 and was a 32nd degree master mason. He was also a Shriner and a member of Yarab Temple of Atlanta. Avery was a born again Christian and a member and elder of Bibleway Baptist Church of Cartersville.

Avery enjoyed racing cars. He loved camping and hanging out with his Vietnam veteran brothers. And he especially enjoyed riding with the Patriot Guard Riders.

He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-one years, Kathy Burns Chapman; his children and their spouses, Michelle and Kenny Moore, Hayley and Daryl Johnson, Jennifer and John Pratt, Joseph A. Chapman, III, and Blue and Sabrina Edwards; fifteen grandchildren, Patrick and Crystal, Erica and Jackson, Nick, Sarah, Brittney, Tayler, Sierra, Zach, Justin, Ty, Andy, Haley, Cameron, Olivia, and Madison; two great-grandchildren, Gavyn and Stormi; special nieces, Mary and Brittany; special nephew, Jesse; and many wonderful friends and church family.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2010 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Pastor Ralph Cox and Pastor Mark Harris officiating. Avery’s cremated remains will be escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders to be buried in the Georgia National cemetery following the service.

DANIEL EDWARD BURGER
February 2, 1950 - December 2, 2010

Daniel Edward Burger, 60, of Adairsville passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010 at the Cartersville Medical Center after a brief illness. Born February 2, 1950 in Chatsworth, he was the son of the late Guy L. Burger and the late Louise Haynes Burger. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Martin and Jackie Burger; and his grandson, J.C. Tant.

Daniel followed his father in the family produce business, Burger’s Market, as soon as he was old enough to work. He enjoyed trips to Cherokee, North Carolina and to Biloxi, Mississippi. Daniel loved spending time with his grandkids and enjoyed taking them bowling and skating and taking them to the movies. He also enjoyed listening to gospel music.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Christine Evans Burger; his children and their spouses, Dwayne and Tammy Tant, Teresa and Danny Henson, Tammy Andrews and Jimmy Jones, and Diane and James King; twelve grandchildren, Christopher Tant, Christie and Seth Keller, Tina and Chase Bennett, Felicia Woody, Kayla Andrews, D.J. Henson, Timothy Henson, Daniel Morris, Carri King, Donna King, Dakota King, and Bella King; three great-grandchildren, Ivori Keller, Marcus Bennett, and Maci Bennett; his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Audrey and Dave Graves, David Burger, Alice Goodwin, Rosemary and Russell Burger, Virginia Hodge, Tony Burger, Donna and Ronnie Weaver, and Neva and John King; a special niece, Mandy “Pandy” Weaver; and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2010 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Ralph Siniard officiating. Burial will follow in the Haven of Rest Memorial Park in Calhoun.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Tant, Eddie Goodwin, Timedd Wood, Rusty Burger, Chris Burger, and Isaiah King. These gentlemen are asked to be at the funeral home on Monday by 1:15 p.m.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.

OLA MARIE FRICKS
April 8, 1928 - December 8, 2010

Ms. Ola Marie Fricks age 82, of Rome, GA, died Wednesday, December 8, 2010.

Ms. Fricks was born in Floyd County, GA, on April 8, 1928, the daughter of the late Durand O. Fricks and Pearl Satcher Fricks. She worked for Champion Garment for forty-two years. Mrs. Fricks was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for a number of years and later belonged to the Love Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents Ms. Fricks was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel J. Fricks.

Survivors include her twin brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Monte H. Fricks and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Vera and Mahlon Busby and Barbara and Bob Anglea all of Rome, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 11, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Dr. Dale Levan officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The Family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour in the Oaknoll Chapel.

A. P. Warnock
December 7, 1919 - November 26, 2010

Mr. A. P. Warnock, age 90, of Shannon, GA died Friday, November 26, 2010 in a Rome hospital.

Mr. Warnock was born in Walker County, GA on December 7, 1919, the son of the late Luther Warnock and Effie Pettitt Warnock. Mr. Warnock was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served his country during World War II. He was employed by Klopman Mills for a period of 45 years. Mr. Warnock was a member of the Shannon First Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer and had played golf just two weeks prior to his death. He was a member of the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion and the Elk’s Lodge. In addition to his parents Mr. Warnock was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Warnock and a brother, Quillian Warnock.

Survivors include his wife Margaret Warnock of Shannon, GA; son, Michael Warnock of Marietta, GA; three grandsons, Michael Warnock, Wesley Warnock and Beau Warnock; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Novella Lee. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, November 29, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Hearne officiating. iIntermentto follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Sunday, November 28, 2010 from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home.

Charles Donald McKinley
November 19, 1934 - December 7, 2010
Charles Donald “Don” McKinley, 76, of Calhoun died Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Cartersville Medical Center. Born November 19, 1934 in Knoxville, Tennessee he was the son of the late Roy Jefferson McKinley, and the late Nell Richards McKinley. He was also preceded in death by his wife of thirty-four years, Edwana Harz McKinley; and his sister, June McKinley Ogle.

Don was a Pastor with Without Walls ministry. He will always be remembered by those who knew him as an anointed man of God who loved his family with a passion, served Christ to the uttermost, and never missed an opportunity to tell a lost soul about Jesus.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Donna and John Swearingen of Ocala, Florida, Stephen McKinley of Washington, D.C., Karen Ledford of Adairsville, Ivan and Mary McKinley of Calhoun, Timothy and Sarah McKinley of White, and Philip and Stacy McKinley of Canton; his brother, Roy McKinley of Los Angeles, California; his sisters, Ann Rose of Los Angeles, California, and Janice McKinley of Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Without Walls Cartersville with Pastor Tim McKinley, Rev. Ivan McKinley, and Rev. Curtis Price II officiating. iIntermentwill be private.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Without Walls Cartersville at 214 Nelson St. Cartersville, GA 30120.

STELLA LOUISE BAGLEY
October 14, 1927 - December 26, 2010
Stella Louise Bagley, 83, of Cassville passed away Sunday, December 26, 2010 at her residence after a brief illness. Born October 14, 1927 in Sand Mountain, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late George Namon Wilson and the late Mary Alverine Tillery Wilson. She was also preceded in death by two sisters.

Stella had been a homemaker her entire life, and she was of the Baptist faith. She loved sewing and embroidery, watching soaps, and reading. One of her favorite things to read was her Bible which she read faithfully every day. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Bagley; her sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest and Minnie Fann of Cartersville, Johnny and Vicky Bagley of Adairsville, Ricky and Revonda Bagley of Cartersville, and Ronald and Dianne Bagley of Cassville; her daughters and sons-in-law, Hattie and Robert Murphy of Cartersville and Mary Ann and Harry Russell of Perryopolis, Pennsylvania; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; her sister, Eunice Burns of White; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Ralph Shook officiating. Burial will follow in the Cassville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 9 p.m. Tuesday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.

Dr. Raymond Francis Corpe
July 14, 1912 - December 18, 2010

Dr. Raymond Francis Corpe, age 98, a 50 year resident of Rome, GA currently residing in August, GA, entered into rest on Saturday, December 18, 2010.

Dr. Corpe was born in Colfax, Illinois, son of the late Harry W. Corpe and Faye Kominski. Dr. Corpe graduated from Eureka College in the class of 1934, a Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity brother of Ronald W. Reagan. Dr. Corpe received his MD degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago and completed his residency education in Pathology at the University of Virginia, General Surgery at the University of Illinois and Thoracic Surgery at Lahey Clinic, Boston. Dr. Corpe was a commissioned officer in the United States Public Health Service during World War II serving his country from 1943-1952. In 1950, the Public Health Service made him Chief of Surgery at Battey State Hospital in Rome, Georgia which was the largest tuberculosis hospital in the world at that time. He became the Superintendent of Battey State Hospital and was a pioneer in treating TB with medications rather than surgery. His team isolated and first reported on atypical strains of TB and developed agents to treat them; they are still used today. Dr. Corpe was a consultant to the Veteran’s Administration and Professor of Thoracic Surgery at the Medical College of Georgia. He was a Diplomat of the American Board of General Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Corpe was an honorary lifetime member and elected Hall of Fame member of the American Lung Association. He was a lifetime member of the Georgia Lung Association and served as president 1975-1976. He was a member of the American College of Surgeons and was a prolific author and lecturer on tuberculosis. In addition to his career at Battey State Hospital, Dr. Corpe served the state of Georgia as the director of the Georgia Tuberculosis Control Program from 1988 until his retirement in 1998. He was honored by the Georgia State Legislature with a proclamation naming the district health office building of the Georgia Department of Human Resources at Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital after him. Dr. Corpe was a devoted Christian, dedicated husband and beloved father. In addition to his parents Dr. Corpe’s was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Ferry Corpe and a sister, Enid.

Survivors include his daughter, Carleen Delio and her husband Richard of Locust Grove, Virginia; daughter, Kathy Miller and her husband Robert of Greenville, Georgia; a son, Dr. R. Scott Corpe and his wife Julie of Augusta, Georgia; grandchildren, Karen Delio, David Delio, Sharon Korinek, Ruskin Miller, Raine Miller, Sarah Corpe, Laura Corpe, Hannah Corpe and Jennifer Corpe; a great-granddaughter, Naomi Delio and a nephew, John H. MacMillan.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Patrick Kingery officiating. A reception will follow in the parrish hall prior to a private inurnment at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be made to the Eureka College, Eureka, Illinois or Saint Labre Indian School, Ashland, Montana, 59004.

Preston DeShane Tate
July 28, 1969 - December 28, 2010
Preston DeShane Tate, 41 of Euharlee passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2010. Born July 28, 1969 in Athens, Tennessee, he was the son of Brenda Lee Tate and the late Charles Larry Tate. He was also preceded in death by his mamaw and papaw, Reva and Winston Tate.

Preston was passionate about many things in life. If you knew him, you knew how big of a Tennessee football fan he was. And he was passionate about his son’s activities including his wrestling and drumming. Preston had played the saxophone and the drums in high school, and he had been employed as a warehouse manager with Simpson’s Grocery before becoming disabled.

Although disabled for nearly 20 years, Preston was more active than most people. He was instrumental in starting Cub Scout Pack 132 in Euharlee and served as the Cub Master for 4 years. He volunteered at several scout camps and at Camp Sidney Dew. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Cartersville where he served as a youth leader and was known by the children of the church as “Papa Tate.” Preston had participated in church mission trips including one mission to Juarez, Mexico.

Survivors include his loving wife of 18 years, Lorrie Ray Tate; his son, Andrew Ryan Tate; his mother, Brenda Lee Tate of Madisonville, Tennessee; his mamaw and papaw, Orpha and Andrew Taylor of Madisonville, Tennessee; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Danny and Sheila Ray of Cassville, Ga.; his sister-in-law, Melissa Ray of Cassville, Ga.; his wife’s grandparents, Walter and Elma Cornwell of Cassville; three nephews; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

The family will receive friends from 12 – 3 p.m. on Friday, December 31, 2010 at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.

A celebration of Preston’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ted Smith officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Nalli, Jeff Stiles, Tom Melton, Tom Nebergall, Brian Adams, Bryant Haney, and Joe Carlsen.

The family will also receive friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, 4650 Hwy. 411 Bypass, Madisonville, TN 37354 followed by a memorial service at 7:00 p.m.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 3, 2011 in Rural Vale cemetery in Tellico Plains, Tennessee.

LEWIS HOWARD TEEMS
January 22, 1934 - December 28, 2010
Lewis Howard Teems, 75, of Kingston passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at his residence after an extended illness. Born January 22, 1934 in Trion, he was the son of the late Calvin Teems and the late Era Teems.

Lewis was a member of the Church of God of the Union Assembly in Rockmart. He had been a truck driver for 33 years and had been employed by Terminal Transport. Lewis was also a member of the Euharlee Masonic Lodge #457. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Myra Gentry Teems; his sons and daughter-in-law, Steve Teems and Ricky and Maria Teems; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and David Watkins; his grandchildren, Matt Harper, Adam Harper, Tiffany, Teems, Britni Teems, and Kaitlin Stone; and his great-grandchildren, Sunshine Harper, Maggie Garrett, and Kayla Harper.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Church of God of the Union Assembly in Rockmart. Mr. Teems will lie-in-state at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour. Burial with Masonic rites will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Serving as pallbearers will be David Gentry, Tommy Gentry, Hugh Teems, Danny Brookshire, Mike Martin, Jack Gentry, and Adam Harper. Honorary pallbearers will be David Watkins, Johnny Duke, Ed Brookshire, and Olen Gentry. Pallbearers are requested to meet at the church by 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.

The family will receive friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.

Walmer Jean Atkinson
September 29, 1939 - December 25, 2010
Walmer Jean Atkinson went home to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on his birthday Saturday, December 25, 2010. Upon her arrival in heaven she was greeted by her beloved husband, Billy Joe Atkinson; and her parents, William Eley and Kanzady Robinson Eley; also in attendance were her sisters, Mildred Gossett, Betty Cadle; and her brothers, Kay Eley, Frank Eley, and Houston Eley.

Jean was born in Bartow County on September 29, 1939 and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after thirty-three years of employment. It was the only job she ever held.

She is survived by her sisters-in law, Faye Pate, and Marie Hendrix; and many nieces and nephews, including one special niece, Diana Taylor; and one much loved great-niece, Ginger Hale. Also surviving are her wonderful friends, Mary and Delano Cantrell; her Sunday school class at Oakland Heights Baptist Church; and her Red Hat Sisters around the world.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Sunset Memory Gardens with the Rev. Joe Nix officiating.

CURTIS HAMILTON BISHOP
January 5, 1969 - December 17, 2010
Mr. Curtis Hamilton Bishop, 41, of Cartersville died Friday, December 17, 2010 at his residence. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, January 5, 1969 and was the son of C.H. Bishop and Faye Elizabeth Strickland Bishop. He had previously been employed by STK Construction and Kroger.

Curtis is survived by his wife of 24 years, Tina Tallant Bishop of Cartersville; his children, Heather and Blake Bishop of Cartersville; his parents, Faye and C.H. Bishop of Decatur; his brothers and sister-in-law, Steve and Tier Bishop of Helen and Christopher Bishop of Carrollton.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2010 in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at graveside.

Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Road, Cartersville is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Curtis Hamilton Bishop.
