W. HARPER MORGAN
May 14, 1933 - August 12, 2009

Mr. W. Harper Morgan, age 76 of Aragon passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2009.

Mr. Morgan was born on May 14, 1933 in Paulding County, son of the late Silas Morgan and the late Odessa Osborne Morgan. He was a retired General Motors employee with 32 years of service. Mr. Morgan was a member of the Rockmart Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. #97 and was of the Methodist faith. He was preceded in death a sister, Mrs. Esther Thompson; and a grandson, Mr. Brandon Floyd Deems.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Carpenter Morgan of Aragon; a daughter, Shelia Porter of Aragon; a son, Randy Morgan and wife Linda of Aragon; two grandchildren, Chris Morgan and Amanda Deems both of Aragon; and a great grandson, Zane Deems of Aragon.

Funeral services for Mr. Morgan will be held on Saturday morning, August 15th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Weaver officiating. iIntermentservices will follow in the family lot of Live Oak Church cemetery with Rockmart Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. #97 in charge of Masonic graveside rites.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers: Kenneth Thompson, Allen Ballew, Mike Ballew, Roy Porter, Alan Dean and Travis Gibel.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, August 14th between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m.

William Michael "Mike" Gore
January 2, 1946 - August 12, 2009
Mr. William Michael “Mike” Gore, age 63 of Rockmart passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2009.

Mr. Gore was born on January 2, 1946 in Floyd County, son of the late William Ralph “Buck” Gore and the late Mary Julia Osborn Gore. He was a retired machinist from the Morse Automotive Corporation of Cartersville. Mr. Gore served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Rockmart.

Survivors include a daughter, Allison Nicole Robinson and husband Chris of Dallas; a son, Matthew Gore of Hiram; and a sister, Sue Cain and husband Andy of Euharlee. Three grandchildren also survive.

Funeral graveside services for Mr. Gore will be held on Friday, August 14th at 11:00 a.m. in the family lot of Rockmart Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Hoyt Lewis officiating.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers: Larry Gore, Jimmy Lester, Sam Gore, Greg Caldwell, Danny Bailey, Harold McDurmon and Scott Costlow. Honorary pallbearer will be Tony Coats.

HAROLD WAYNE BACKERS, SR.
March 16, 1927 - August 9, 2009

Mr. Harold Wayne Backers, Sr. age 82 of Rockmart passed away Sunday, August 9, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Backers was born on March 16, 1927 in Polk County, son of the late Odis Backers and the late Sarah Ernestine Robinson Backers. He retired from the Engineered Fabrics Corporation and was a member of the Bellview Baptist Church. Mr. Backers was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II and was a member of the Brown-Wright American Legion Post #12. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Iona Day and Mrs. Norma Hooper; and a brother, Mr. Bobby Backers.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Busby Backers of Rockmart; daughter, Angela Meisner and husband Bert of Smyrna; son, Harold Wayne Backers, Jr. of Rockmart; two step-daughters, Annette Roskosky of Rome and Darlene Boatner of Lindale; two step-sons, Eddie Terry and wife Peggy of Buchanan and Glenn Terry of Armuchee; a sister, Helen Kinney of Rome; and eight grandchildren.
A number of nieces and nephews and many friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Backers will be held on Wednesday, August 12th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Edwards officiating. iIntermentservices will follow in the family lot New Prospect Church cemetery with Brown-Wright American Legion Post #12 in charge of military graveside rites.

The following grandchildren will serve as pallbearers: Quinton Meisner, Kyle Ashley, Jordan Ashley, Blake Terry, Joshua Terry, Caleb Boatner and Kevin Boatner. Honorary pallbearer will be Courtney Terry.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, August 11th between the hours of 7 and 9 p.m.

ANDRIA RENEE PARRIS HOWARD
June 11, 1962 - July 22, 2009

Mrs. Andria Renee Parris Howard, age 47 of Rockmart passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2009.

Mrs. Howard was born on June 11, 1962 in Atlanta, daughter of Lela Ann Hood Parris and the late Fred Parris. She was a member of the Morning View Baptist Church. Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Parris; and a brother, Tim Parris.

Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Roger Howard of Rockmart; three sons, Jeff Howard and Kevin Howard both of Rockmart and Michael Howard of Atlanta; a daughter, Jennifer Pullen and husband Paul of LaGrange; mother, Lela Ann Hood Parris of Rockmart; two brothers, Steve Parris of Aragon and Mike Parris of Canton. Five grandchildren also survive.

Memorial services for Mrs. Howard will be held on Friday evening, July 24th at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Hulsey officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until the memorial hour.

BLAKE L. WOLFE
March 4, 1970 - July 20, 2009

Mr. Blake L. Wolfe, age 39 of Roswell, formerly of Rockmart, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2009.

Mr. Wolfe was born on March 6, 1970 in Fulton County, son of Cecil L. Wolfe and the late Glenda Gore Wolfe. He was a 1988 graduate of Rockmart High School, a 1992 graduate of Georgia Tech and a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Mr. Wolfe was a purchasing manager for the Roofing Supply Group of Atlanta and was of the Baptist faith. He served on the Sandy Plains Baseball Board Association and was a coach and team manager.

Survivors include his wife, Jill Hitchcock Wolfe of Roswell to whom he married on December 3, 1994; two sons, Connor Wolfe and Brady Wolfe both of Roswell; father, Cecil L. Wolfe of Rockmart; sister, Neva Long and husband Jason of Aragon; brother, Michael Wolfe and wife Kelley of Rockmart; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bobby and Beth Hitchcock of Rockmart; brother-in-law, Chad Hitchcock and wife Alicia of Rockmart; and grandfather-in-law, Rae Herndon of Rockmart. Two nieces and five nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Wolfe will be held on Wednesday, July 22nd at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Rockmart with the Rev. Jerry Wolfe and the Rev. Greg Thompson officiating. iIntermentservices will follow in the family lot of Rockmart Memorial Gardens.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers: Keith Fuller, Scott Holliman, Robbie Barnes, Mark Smith, Joe Gravalec, Todd Lavender, Jeff McDowell, Cory Thompson, Tim Perryman and Rick Sparks.

Honorary pallbearers will be the 2009 Sandy Plains Cougars 11u baseball team.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on this evening, Tuesday July 21st between the hours of 6 and 9 p.m.

Floral donations will be accepted or those wishing to do so may make contributions in memory of Mr. Wolfe to Curing Kids Cancer, 4250 Vienna Way, Marietta, GA 30062.

William (Billy) Samuel Goss
August 13, 1955 - July 15, 2009

Mr. William “Billy” Samuel Goss, age 53 of Rockmart passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2009.

Mr. Goss was born on August 13, 1955 in Polk County, son of the late Robert Fulton Goss and the late Jewell Byrd Goss. He was a member of the Piedmont Ave. Baptist Church. Mr. Goss was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Dolly Elliott; and a brother, Mr. Ray Goss.

Survivors include his wife, Gena Wilson Goss of Rockmart; a sister, Shirley Williamson of Aragon; and two brothers, Robert Jack Goss and Ricky Goss both of Aragon. Nieces and nephews also survive.

A graveside memorial service for Mr. Goss will be held on Saturday morning, July 25th at 11:00 a.m. in the family lot of Rose Hill cemetery with the Rev. John Hooper and the Rev. Ed Pasley officiating.

George Anthony (Tony) Gurley
September 1, 1956 - July 4, 2009

Mr. George Anthony “Tony” Gurley age 52 of Aragon passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2009.

Mr. Gurley was born on September 1, 1956 in Floyd County, son of Earl Slater Gurley and Henrietta Bishop Gurley. Prior to becoming disabled, he was employed by Cingular Wireless. Mr. Gurley was a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his parents, Earl Slater Gurley and Henrietta Bishop Gurley of Aragon; two sisters, Lori Deakins and husband Michael of Shannon and Janie Wolfe and husband Ronald of Villa Rica; and a brother, Richard Gurley of Aragon. Nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive.

Memorial services for Mr. Gurley will be held on Saturday, July 11th at 4:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Aragon Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Fain officiating and eulogies provided by family and friends.

The family will receive friends at the fellowship hall of Aragon Baptist Church on Saturday, July 11th from 2:00 p.m. until the memorial hour.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make donations in memory of Mr. Gurley to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville MD 20852.

Thomas Wade Costlow
June 5, 1970 - July 2, 2009

Mr. Thomas Wade Costlow age 39 of Aragon (Taylorsville Community) passed away Thursday, July 2, 2009.

Mr. Costlow was born June 5, 1970 in Rome, son of Ben and Louise Collins Costlow. Mr. Costlow was a custodian at Pine Log Elementary School and was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his parents, Ben and Louise Collins Costlow of Aragon; son, Tommy Costlow of Pine Log; daughter, Haley Costlow of Pine Log; four brothers, Adam Costlow, Glenn Costlow, Jamie Costlow and Ivey Costlow all of Aragon; four sisters, Tina Cross of Cartersville, Elaine Loyd of Taylorsville, Annette Costlow of Aragon, and Mary Meritt of Cartersville.

Funeral services for Mr. Costlow will be held Sunday, July 5th at 2:00 p.m. in the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Lindsey, the Rev. Charles Garrett, and the Rev. Danny Roberson officiating. iIntermentservices will follow in the family lot of Mt. Tabor Cemetery.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers:Jeremy Costlow, Kenneth Costlow, Barry Costlow, Danny Costlow, Daniel Cross and Danny Cross.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as honorary pallbearers: Curtis Costlow, Matthew Costlow, Little Ben Costlow and John Loyd.

Mr. Costlow will be taken to his residence at 3029 Old Alabama Rd, Aragon on Saturday and will remain there until the funeral hour.

Robert Eugene Auchmuty, Jr.
May 28, 1932 - April 5, 2009
Mr. Robert “Bob” Eugene Auchmuty, Jr. age 76 of Alpharetta formerly of Rockmart passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2009.

Mr. Auchmuty was born on May 28, 1932 in Polk County, son of the late Mr. Robert Eugene Auchmuty, Sr. and the late Mrs. Mae Smith Auchmuty. He was a consultant for the Rock-Tenn Company, was of the Methodist faith and loved to play golf. Mr. Auchmuty was a United States Air Force veteran.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Amy & Tim Hulsey of Duluth; a son and daughter-in-law, Andy & Beth Auchmuty of Suwanee; and a sister, Juanita Sproull of Rockmart. Four grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Auchmuty will be held on Friday, April 10th at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Sineath officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the family lot of Aragon Cemetery.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Tim Hulsey, Kirk Sproull, Jason Sproull, Skip Sproull, Ron Krause and John Inwright. Honorary pallbearer will be Gene Rachels.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 10th from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.

John Jasper Johnson Atkinson
March 22, 1945 - February 1, 2009
Mr. "John" Jasper Johnson Atkinson, age 63 of Dallas GA passed away Sunday, February 1, 2009.

Mr. Atkinson was born on March 22, 1945 in Jamestown, Tennessee, son of the late Charlie Austin Atkinson and the late Martha Jane Creason Atkinson. He was a self-employed construction worker and a United States Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War. Mr. Atkinson was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Phyllis Reece; two brothers, Walter Atkinson and Tony Atkinson; and a sister, Myrtle Ramsey.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Baxter Atkinson of Dallas; three step-sons, Michael Reece, William Reece and Phillip Reece all of Dallas; a step-daughter, Pamela Lancaster and husband Howell of Mableton; a brother, Frank Atkinson and wife Brenda of Jamestown TN; and four sisters, Clara Human, Marie Williams and husband Hollis, Charlene Cook and husband Cordell all of Jamestown TN and Jewell Hall of Clarkrange TN.

Graveside services for Mr. Atkinson will be held on Wednesday, February 4th at 2:00 p.m. in the family lot of Rockmart Memorial Gardens with Rev. Johnny Wellham officiating. Brown-Wright American Legion Post #12 will be in charge of military graveside rites.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 4th between the hours of 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.
