Rose Powell
Services for Rose Powell of Vidalia were held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 16 in the chapel of Towns Funeral Home.
Powell, 80, died Friday, May 13 in Meadows Nursing Center.
Survivors include one daughter, Christine Wooten of Vidalia.
Towns Funeral Home of Alamo was in charge of arrangements.

Silas Edwin ‘Ed’ Purvis
Graveside services for Silas Edwin “Ed” Purvis of Alamo were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12 in the Alamo City Cemetery.
The Rev. Jimmy Smith officiated.
Purvis, 82, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at McRae Manor Nursing Home. He was the son of the late Mattie White and Elbert Purvis of Wheeler County.
He was a self-employed farmer.
Survivors include his brothers, Fred Purvis of Macon, Billy Purvis, Nelson Purvis, Ray Purvis, Tommy Purvis, Donald Purvis and Wade Purvis, all of Alamo; sisters, Martha Stovall of Alamo, Eva Blount of East Dublin and Geneva Hulett of Macon; several nieces and nephews.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Housend Sellers
Services for Mary Housend Sellers of Hazlehurst were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 11 at Lowe’s Funeral Home Chapel with with interment in Telfair Memorial Gardens in McRae.
The Rev. M. Carlton Burnett officiated.
Sellers, 88, died Monday,May 9, 2005 in Brian Center Nursing Home. Center. She was the daughter of the late Nannie Watson and Samuel I. Housend of the Workmore Community and was the widow of Chester Smith.
She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and retired from Hazlehurst Lingerie as a seamstress.
Survivors include her daughters, Glenda Burnett of Stockbridge and Donna McEachin of Lumber City; sons, Kermit L. Gore of Gray, Sammy Smith, Gary Smith, Kent Smith, all of Lumber City and William Smith of Alamo; 22 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Lucille Snellgrove
Services for Lucille Snellgrove of Macon were held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 16 at the Central Grove Church of God with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. James Merritt officiated.
Snellgrove, 82, died Friday, May 13, 2005 in Macon. She was the daughter of the late Ada Kearse and Son Cartwright of Telfair County.
She was well loved and respected by everyone in her community. Her life was dedicated to helping others and asking for nothing in return. She was a good business woman, wife, mother, and grandmother.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Jemigan of Macon; son, George Snellgrove Jr. of Macon; sister, Geneva Sheffield of Chauncey; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Hardwick D. Strickland
Services for Hardwick D. Strickland of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at Zion Hope Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Max Harrell officiated.
Strickland, 84, died Thursday, May 12, 2005 at Oconee Regional Medical Center of Milledgeville. He was the son of the late Edna Cribbs and John Thomas Strickland of Dodge County.
He was a World War II Veteran and was a retired truck driver.
Survivors include his children’s mother,Ethel Strickland of Fayetteville; daughters, Tina Plunkett of Jonesboro, Rebecca McKown and Belinda Turner, both of Fayetteville; sons, Jeff Strickland of Huntsville, Ala. and Walter Kitchens of Gainesville; brother, George Strickland of Treasure Island, Fla.; ten grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Bobby Aldrich
Services for Bobby Aldrich of Alamo were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 14 at the Alamo Baptist Church with interment in the Alamo Cemetery.
The Rev. Billy Lee officiated.
Aldrich, 54, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005 in Meadows Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late Roy and Eleanor Glover Aldrich and was married to Sue Aldrich of Alamo.
He was a retired police officer and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter, Ann Whelchel of Jacksonville; son, Roy Aldrich of Alamo; sister, Dianne Aldrich of Helena; brother, Pete Aldrich of Brooklet; and two grandchildren.
Towns Funeral Home of Alamo was in charge of arrangements.
Grace Cravey Lewis
Services for Grace Cravey Lewis of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 5 at the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Milan.
The Rev. Joe Stevens officiated.
Lewis, 92, died Monday, May 2, 2005 in the Telfair Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Catherine Fussell and Thomas Jefferson Cravey, and was the widow of William “Willie” Joseph Lewis.
She was a native of Telfair County, member of Helena United Methodist Church, member of Easter Star Chapter #323, and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sisters, Inez Powell of Lumber City, Inell Powell of Macon and Annie Woodall of Jacksonville.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Sallie Mae Cockrell Sanderson
Graveside services for Sallie Mae Cockrell Sanderson of Nashville were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5 at Block House Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
The Rev. Mickey T. Lindsey officiated.
Sanderson, 88, died Tuesday, May 3, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Buse Cockrell and was the widow of Cecil Sanderson.
She was a native of Mississippi and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughters, Wilma Dopson of McRae, Charlene Bonner of Albany, Peggy Andrews and Shirley Trowell, both of Nashville; son, Jimmy Sanderson of Alapaha; brother, Clifton Cockrell of Mississippi; and 15 grandchildren.
Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals of Tifton was in charge of arrangements.

Franklin L. Smith
Services for Franklin L. Smith of McDonough were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at the Alamo Methodist Church with interment in the Alamo Cemetery.
The Rev. Charles Cravey and the Rev. Nick Hazelton officiated.
Smith, 73, died Sunday, April 24, 2005 in the Henry Medical Center. He was the son of the late Franklin Leon and Amanda Higginbotham Smith and was married to Oretta Smith.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and a truck driver with Consolidated Freight Ways.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter, Fran Foxworth; son, Russ Smith; and three grandchildren.
Towns Funeral Home of Alamo was in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Bowen Spires
Services for Ruby Bowen Spires of Rhine were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 9 in Hopewell Baptist Church in Rhine with interment in the Hopewell Cemetery.
The Rev. Roy Williams and Bobby Ryals officiated.
Spires, 81, died Saturday, May 7, 2005 in Telfair Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Jim Bowen and Lola Jump Bowen and was the widow of Ed Spires.
She was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, lunchroom employee of Rhine Elementary School, and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons, Charles Spires of Kathleen, Willie Spires and Herman Spires, both of Rhine and Eddie Spires of Eastman; sisters, Ethel Sanford of Eastman, Claude Hilliard and Esther Spires, both of Rhine; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge of arrangements.
