HAROLD WAYNE BACKERS, SR.
March 16, 1927 - August 9, 2009
Mr. Harold Wayne Backers, Sr. age 82 of Rockmart passed away Sunday, August 9, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Backers was born on March 16, 1927 in Polk County, son of the late Odis Backers and the late Sarah Ernestine Robinson Backers. He retired from the Engineered Fabrics Corporation and was a member of the Bellview Baptist Church. Mr. Backers was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II and was a member of the Brown-Wright American Legion Post #12. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Iona Day and Mrs. Norma Hooper; and a brother, Mr. Bobby Backers.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Busby Backers of Rockmart; daughter, Angela Meisner and husband Bert of Smyrna; son, Harold Wayne Backers, Jr. of Rockmart; two step-daughters, Annette Roskosky of Rome and Darlene Boatner of Lindale; two step-sons, Eddie Terry and wife Peggy of Buchanan and Glenn Terry of Armuchee; a sister, Helen Kinney of Rome; and eight grandchildren.
A number of nieces and nephews and many friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Backers will be held on Wednesday, August 12th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Edwards officiating. iIntermentservices will follow in the family lot New Prospect Church cemetery with Brown-Wright American Legion Post #12 in charge of military graveside rites.

The following grandchildren will serve as pallbearers: Quinton Meisner, Kyle Ashley, Jordan Ashley, Blake Terry, Joshua Terry, Caleb Boatner and Kevin Boatner. Honorary pallbearer will be Courtney Terry.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, August 11th between the hours of 7 and 9 p.m.

HOMER FRANKLIN BROWN
February 8, 1926 - June 24, 2009
Mr. Homer Franklin Brown, age 83 of Rockmart passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2009.

Mr. Brown was born on February 8, 1926 in Blairsville GA, son of the late Henry F. Brown and the late Collesta Thomason Brown. Mr. Brown and his wife Madileen were the owners and operators of Brown’s Floor Service of Rockmart for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Rockmart, the Polk County Senior Choir, the Golden Agers and enjoyed bowling. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Cleo Hooper; and five brothers, Emory Brown, Paul Brown, Barney Brown, Clayton Brown and Harmon Brown.

Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Madileen Elliott Brown of Rockmart; four sons and daughters-in-law, Rick & Amy Brown of Wedowee AL, Harold & Barbara Brown of Temple TX, Kenneth & Laura Brown of Vidalia GA and Steve & Jane Brown of Aragon; five sisters, Connie Galloway of Gastonia NC, Ruby Sexton and Ellen Collins both of Blairsville, Frankie Dunaway of Rome and Ethel Self of Columbia SC. Seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Brown will be held on Sunday, June 28th at 3:00 p.m. in the Second Baptist Church of Rockmart with the Rev. David Warriner and the Rev. Hoyt Lewis officiating. iIntermentservices will follow in the family lot of Rose Hill cemetery with the Rev. Jim Reynolds officiating.

Mr. Brown will lie in state at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers: John Purser, Steve Turner, Jerry McDurmon, Steve Schell, Jimmy Childers, William Bowman and Rick Geiger.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as honorary pallbearers: Jimmy Austin, Jimmy Dunaway, Danny Elliott, Jimmy Buchanan, Jimmy Elliott, Melvin Brown, Brian Purser, L. C. Mullins, Bobby Joe Phillips and Calvin Collins.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening, June 27th between the hours of 6 and 9 p.m.

Paul Lewis Baldwin
November 15, 1922 - June 18, 2009
Mr. Paul Lewis Baldwin, age 86 of Rockmart passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2009.

Mr. Baldwin was born on November 15, 1922 in Polk County, son of the late Willie Vinson Baldwin and the late Lillian Stringer Baldwin. Since the 1950’s he owned and operated several businesses dealing with used auto parts and was retired from the Lockheed Martin Corporation. Mr. Baldwin was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Rockmart and a member of the Rockmart Masonic Lodge #97 F. & A.M. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. Mr. Baldwin loved to travel and had visited 49 different states. He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Danny Baldwin; three sisters, Miss Gertrude Baldwin, Miss Maggie Baldwin and Mrs. Fannie Mae McBryde; and three brothers, Mr. Doyle Baldwin, Mr. Clyde Baldwin and Mr. Forrest Baldwin.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mrs. Hazel Jacobs Baldwin of Rockmart; a daughter, Annette Edwards and husband Bill of Rockmart; and a son, Charles Baldwin and wife Sandra of Rockmart. Four grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Baldwin will be held on Sunday afternoon, June 21st at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Ladell Jacobs and Rev. David Warriner officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the family lot of Rose Hill cemetery with Brown-Wright American Legion Post #12 in charge of military graveside rites.

The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers: Donald Ray Baldwin, Buddy Winslett, Larry Peek, Jerry McDurmon, Wayne (Paul) Turner and Kenneth Davenport.

Honorary pallbearers will be Horace Hulsey, G. P. McBryde and Homer Brown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening, June 20th between the hours of 6 and 9 p.m.

Cathy Hulsey Powell Brown
NOVEMBER 21, 1957 - JUNE 10, 2009
Mrs. Cathy Hulsey Powell Brown, age 51 of Rockmart passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2009.

Mrs. Brown was born on November 21, 1957 in Polk County, daughter of the late Inman Horace Hulsey and the late Helen Genell Moss Hulsey. Prior to retirement she was an employee of Rockmart Nursing & Rehabilitation and served as a home health care nurse. She was a member of the Springdale Baptist Church. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Carroll Ploof; and two brothers, Mr. Louie Hulsey and Mr. Eddie Hulsey.

Survivors include a daughter, Jada Genell Powell of Rockmart; two sisters, Donna Pope of Dallas and Shirley Goodwin of Cedartown; and two brothers, Jerry Hulsey of Starke, FL and Ricky Hulsey of Dallas.

Funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be held on Saturday, June 13th at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Pope officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the family lot of the Springdale Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, June 12th between the hours of 6 and 9 p.m.

Betty Jo Camp Baldwin
October 14, 1929 - May 29, 2009
Mrs. Betty Jo Camp Baldwin, age 79 of Cedartown passed away Friday, May 29, 2009.

Mrs. Baldwin was born on October 14, 1929 in Fairfield, Alabama, daughter of the late Calvin Fenn Barganier and the late Ethyl McGraw Barganier. She was a member of the Bellview Baptist Church and was a retired employee of the Waffle House Corporation having worked for over 25 years with the Waffle House in Cedartown. Mrs. Baldwin was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Wesley Ray Camp, Sr; her second husband, Mr. Seals Hester Baldwin; and a sister, Mrs. Nancy Campbell Brock.

She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Ann Camp and Terry Lynn Locklear both of Cedartown; five sons, Curtis Ray Camp of Cedartown, Charles Calvin Camp of Atlanta, Robert Allen Camp of Rockmart, Wesley Ray Camp, Jr. of Cedartown and Robert Joseph Baldwin of North Carolina; five step-sons, Jerry Wayne Baldwin of Cedartown, Jimmy Ray Baldwin of Rome, Seals Mitchell Baldwin, Sr. of Cedartown, Billy Wayne Pickerin of Orlando, Florida, and Robert Lipelt of Cedartown; two sisters, Marie Porter and Faye Jackson both of Mobile, Alabama; one brother, Roger Allen Barganier; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and good friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Baldwin will be held Tuesday, June 2nd, at 11 AM in the Bellview Baptist Church with Mr. Jack Sherfield officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the family lot of the church cemetery.

Mrs. Baldwin will be taken to the church to lie in state from 10 AM until the funeral hour.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening, June 1ST between the hours of 6 and 9 PM.

The following gentlemen are asked to be pallbearers: Wesley Ray Camp, Jr, Robert Allen Camp, Curtis Ray Camp, Charles Calvin Camp, Johnny Lee Owen, and Carl Michael Owen.

OLIVE S. BALLENGER
August 14, 1908 - May 8, 2009
Mrs. Olive Singleton Ballenger, age 100 of Dallas, formerly of Rockmart passed away on Friday, May 8, 2009.

Mrs. Ballenger was born on August 14, 1908 in Pee Dee, North Carolina, daughter of the late Claudius Roy Singleton and the late Pearl Gilmore Singleton. She began her working career as a bank teller. After her marriage, she and her husband served as camp counselors for the Boy Scouts and other various summer camps for many years. Mrs. Ballenger was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Joe L. Ballenger.

Survivors include nephews, James Singleton and wife Ruth of Rockmart and David Singleton and wife Margaret of Hiram. Other great nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends at Freeman Harris Funeral Home on Sunday evening, May 10th between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m.

Graveside services for Mrs. Ballenger will be held on Monday, May 11th at 1:00 p.m. in the family lot of Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Bobo Funeral Home, 1860 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, SC is in charge of the graveside services.

Agnes Inez Bowers
January 14, 1930 - February 17, 2009
Mrs. Agnes Inez Deems Bowers, age 79 of Rockmart, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2009.

Mrs. Bowers was born on January 14, 1930 in Polk County, daughter of the late Willard Deems and the late Annie Cochran Deems. She was employed by Goodyear Mill and later retired from Engineered Fabrics Corp. with 38 years of service and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rockmart. Mrs. Bowers was preceded in death by two brothers, Raiford Deems and Floyd Deems.

Survivors include her husband, Joel P. Bowers of Rockmart to whom she married on November 15, 1969; two daughters, Karen Anderson and Donna Gamble and husband Don all of Rockmart; one son, Ricky P. Bowers and wife Pam of Rockmart; five brothers, Coy Deems, Alton Deems, Ravon Deems, Fain Deems and Mac Deems; and four sisters, Sara Moates, Jewell Pendergraft, Onita Lindsey and Joyce Bowman. Six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive.

Memorial services for Mrs. Bowers will be held on Saturday, February 21st at 11:00 am in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Burch Fannin officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Sproull, Josh Anderson, Drew Bowers, Matthew Bowers, Lynn Deems, Shane Deems, Danny Holland and Matt Smith.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning, February 21st from 10:00 am until the memorial hour.

WESLEY BRUMBELOW
April 19, 1923 - January 12, 2009
Mr. Wesley Thomas Brumbelow age 85 of Aragon passed away Monday January 12th 2009

Mr. Brumbelow was born in Aragon, Georgia on April 19th, 1923 son of the late Nancy Brown Brumbelow and the late Tom Brumbelow. He was a member of the Aragon Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon for Forty-eight years much of which he time served as the Chairman of the Deacon Board. Mr. Brumbelow served as an Aragon City Councilman for many years and as the Mayor for four years. He was a member and Past Master of the Davitte Masonic Lodge # 513 F&AM; , and was a veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theater. He was retired from the Goodyear Mills having served over forty years in the textile industry. Mr. Brumbelow was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Louise Hendrix Brumbelow on October 22, 1994; four sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Norma Dye Davis Brumbelow; a daughter, Mrs. Rita Brumbelow White and her husband Ronnie of Bremen, three sons, Dale Brumbelow and his wife, Teresa of Rockmart, Mike Davis of Silver Creek, Steve Davis and his wife Pam of Cedartown; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Burkhalter of Rockmart and Mrs. Jeanette Wright of Aragon; Eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Brumbelow will be Thursday January 15th at 3:00 pm in the Aragon Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Puckett and Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating. iIntermentservices will follow in the family lot of the Aragon cemetery with Rev. Wayne Fain officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Aragon Baptist Church on Thursday, January 15th, between the hours of 12 Noon and the funeral hour, during which time Mr. Brumbelow will lie in state.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Brian Ingle, Steve Brumbelow, Mark Broome, John Wright, Bill Addison, Barry Addison, Jamie Addison, and Jeff Brock.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Deacons of the Aragon Baptist Church and the Old Rascals Breakfast Club.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and those wishing to do so may make donations to the Aragon Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society.

Harold T. Bruce
November 29, 1936 - December 20, 2008
Mr. Harold Theodore Bruce, age 72 of Aragon passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2008.

Mr. Bruce was born on November 29, 1936 in Polk County, son of the late Herman Theodore Bruce and the late Elsie Mae Barnett. He retired from the City of Rockmart Water Department after 33 years of service, was a preacher of the Baptist faith and a member of the Gordon Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Bruce was preceded in death by his wife, Mable Ruth Rogers Bruce; and two sisters, Shirley Ann Arp and Mary Frances Earwood.

Survivors include two daughters, Samantha Bruce of Rome and Kim & Kenneth Jones of Rockmart. Five grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Bruce will be held on Tuesday, December 23rd at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Boatner and Rev. Billy Chambers officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the family lot of Taylorsville cemetery.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Joel Roberson, Johnny Cromer, Franklin Rodgers, Gary Jackson, Jackie Turner and Jim Gayton.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening, December 22nd between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m.
