Elizabeth Kate Hawkins, age 86 of Woodland, Ga., passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at the Warm Springs Medical Center in Warm Springs, Ga.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church of Manchester-Warm Springs, with Rev. Gary Kemp officiating.
iIntermentwill be in the Woodland City Cemetery.
Miss Hawkins was born April 3, 1928, in Talbot County, Ga., the daughter of James Hawkins and Mattie Howard Hawkins. She grew up as a member of Matthews Chapel United Methodist Church, but later moved her membership to the Woodland United Methodist Church where she was very active, teaching the Children's Nursery Sunday School Class for over thirty years, and singing in the choir. She later returned her membership to Matthews Chapel, and was also considered an honorary member of the First Presbyterian Church of Manchester-Warm Springs.
She had worked at the Carter's plant in Thomaston and later retired from International Playtex in Manchester. After retirement she enjoyed offering her time working as a caregiver for local friends and family. For a time she also assisted her late sister, Leila Daniel, in the operation of her catering business. She was a very kind and loving person and found her greatest joy in being an aunt to her beloved nieces and nephews.
Survivors include a niece, Susie Davis and her husband Larry of Woodland, Ga.; two nephews, George Hawkins and his wife Dale of Seattle, Wa., and David Hawkins and his wife Janet of Eufaula, Al.; several great-nieces and nephews including Chris Davis and his wife Page of West Milton, OH., Todd Davis and his wife Roxanne of Chicago, Il., Tim Davis and his wife Tara of Manchester, Ga., Ann Marie Atkinson and her husband Danny of Woodland, and Adam Hawkins of Atlanta, Ga.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or a favorite charity.

April 17, 1932 - January 1, 2015
Sara Margaret Harper, age 82 of Manchester, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015 at West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the Chapel of Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home in Manchester, with Rev. Jimmie Chapman officiating. A private interment will follow in Meriwether Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Harper was born April 17, 1932 in Cleburne County, Alabama. She had worked at the Callaway Mill, International Playtex and Roseanne Optical in Manchester, and had also been a seamstress. She had worked as a clerk at the Spectrum Convenience store in Manchester and had worked in recent years for Callaway Gardens. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Manchester.
In addition to her parents, Lewis and Flora Mae Pounds Spence, she was preceded in death by two brothers, J. W. Spence and L. C. "Red" Spence, and a sister, Beatrice Smoot.
Survivors include three sons; Thomas Lewis Harper and his wife Joan of Shiloh, Ga.; John Mark Harper and his wife Crystal of Manchester; Michael David Harper and his wife Ginger of Manchester; seven grandchildren, Page Goodrich, Roy Harper, Bailey Harper, Felicity Harper; John Isaac Harper, Sara Grace “Gracie” Harper and Emah Lee Harper; three great-grandchildren, Lily Harper, Wesley Connor Goodrich and Carter Goodrich; a brother, Harry Spence of Manchester; a sister, Mary Leonard and her husband Joe of Manchester; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Spence of Manchester; and also a very dear friend Charlene Byers.

Dan William Kelley, age 73 of the Raleigh Community, Woodbury, Ga., passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at Salem Baptist Church, 800 Raleigh Rd., Woodbury, with Rev. Ken Dobbs officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
Mr. Kelley was born January 28, 1942 in Offerman, Pierce County, Ga., the son of Lester Kelley and Alice Willis Kelley. He was a 1960 graduate of Talbot County High School where he was named "Mr. Talbot County High" during his senior year. He retired in 2000 from Atlanta Gas Light Company after 39 years service, and was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Raleigh, and also Olive Lodge # 10 F&AM; in Talbotton. During his younger days he enjoyed hunting but devoted much of his time later to gardening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Henry Kelley.
Survivors include a daughter, Kayanne Bostwick of Thomaston; a son, Bill Kelley of Woodbury; four grandchildren, Montana Kelley, Danielle Kelley, Ivy Bostwick and Hunter Bostwick, all of Thomaston; a great-grandson, Eli Warmack of Thomaston; a sister, Lois Huddleston (Tommy) of Woodbury; his best friend and former wife, Charlotte Kelley of Thomaston; also several nieces and nephews.

Betty Diane Mallory, age 52 of the Chalybeate Springs Community, passed away Friday, February 13, 2015 at Midtown Medical Center in Columbus.
A memorial service was held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Victory Temple Church of God in Manchester, with Pastor Charles Williams officiating.
Diane was born December 31, 1962 in Warm Springs, Ga., the daughter of Arthur Lee Davis and Geneva Mae Bryant Davis. She was raised in the Chalybeate Springs Community and was a member of Victory Temple Church of God in Manchester. During her employment she held positions at several area business including Goody Products, Mac's Bar-B-Q in Warm Springs, Joey's Bar-B-Q in Manchester and the Golf Course at Callaway Gardens. She also had worked baking cakes and pies for the Bulloch House Restaurant in Warm Springs. She was a loving, devoted mother and was most proud of her children.
Survivors include her three children; Bradford Davis, Shawn Williams, and Ashlie Williams, all of Chalybeate Springs; her husband, Glenn D. Mallory of Woodland; two brothers, Willie Davis of Columbus and Danny Davis of Waverly Hall; her aunts and uncle, Regina Bryant of Manchester, Lila and Harwood Dunn of Manchester; very dear friends Kim Winzer and Jean Kimball both of Manchester; and very dear friend and father of her children, Donald R. Williams of Greenville; also several step-children, step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

David Scott Moody, age 43 of Valley, Alabama, passed away Friday, February 20, 2015 at Columbus Hospice in Columbus, Ga.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the Chapel of Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home in Manchester, with Rev. Jimmy Bowden officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Raymond Elliott, John Brown, John Harmon, Blake Massey, Jeff Reagan, and Daniel Williams.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Scott was born February 3, 1972, in Warm Springs, Ga., the son of David Kennon Moody and Martha Sue Ingram Steele. He was a self-employed carpenter and during his youth attended First Assembly of God Church in Manchester. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and especially going to the river. He was preceded in death by his father, David Kennon Moody; his paternal grandparents, Clark Henry Moody and Mary Lou Lee Moody and his maternal grandparents, Jack Franklin Ingram and Mildred Beasley Ingram.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Martha Sue and Thomas Steele of Valley, Al.; brother, Randy Moody and his wife Marti of Warm Springs; sisters, Christy Williams and her husband Daniel of Valley, Al., Jessica Moody and her husband Jeff Reagan of Manchester, and Jill Holloway of LaGrange; his step-mother, Laura Moody of Manchester; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

James Horice Qualls, age 79 of Junction City, Ga., passed away Monday, December 22, 2014, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mr. Qualls was born December 21, 1935 in Marietta, Cobb County, Ga., the son of Robert Lee Qualls and Mary Bessie Hughes Qualls. He was a former resident of Kennesaw, Ga., and was retired after over 35 years as the owner and operator of Qualls Construction Company in Cobb County. He had been a resident of Talbot County for twenty-four years and had served eleven of those years as a foster parent. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Bryan, and two brothers, J. C. Qualls, and Roy Qualls.
Survivors include his wife, Reathel Watts Qualls of Junction City, Ga.; a son, Larry Qualls of Talbot County, Ga.; a daughter, Linda Stiles and her husband Jeff of Calhoun, Ga.; six grandchildren, Eric Ledford and his wife Julie of Florida, Ashley Hilsman of Calhoun, Ga., Heather and Haleigh Hufstetler of Cartersville, Ga., and Mara and Patrick Bryan of Kennesaw, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Charlie Will Rowe, age 70 of the Chalybeate Springs community, passed away Friday, February 27, 2015 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2015 at the chapel of Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home in Manchester, with Rev. Richard Campbell officiating assisted by Rev. Colin Dacus. Entombment will follow in the Meriwether Mausoleum with the following serving as pallbearers; Michael Robinson, Troy Wimmer, Zack Davis, Michael Kirschmann, Cole Sanders, Tim Eubanks, Steve McCoy, and Mitch Becton. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Farris, Bill Mitchell, Wayne Smith, and Phillip "Mann" Farley.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home in Manchester.
Mr. Rowe was born August 26, 1944 in Pine Mountain Valley, Ga., the son of Arthur Richard Rowe, Sr. and Nettie Chapman Rowe. He was raised in the Chalybeate Springs community, having lived there since six months of age, and was a 1964 graduate of Manchester High School. Shortly after graduation he began his first job working in the office of the Callaway Mills. He later held a variety of sales jobs in the area, including sales representative for Gulf Life, American General and Metropolitan Life Insurance Companies, Skinner Furniture Company, and also worked for Dixie Finance in Manchester. For many years he assisted his father in the operation of his business, Southern Mausoleums and Tri-County Mausoleum and Monument Company, and later worked as a sales representative for Meriwether Memory Gardens and Upson Memory Gardens cemeteries. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and sports, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was very active in local youth league sports. He had played and coached for numerous softball teams including those of Manchester Veneer, Chalybeate Springs, Senoia Express, Lanier Clothes, Foster Lumber Co., Best-Bilt Fence, and Manchester Business Forms. He was a lifelong member of the Chalybeate Springs United Methodist Church where he had served as Trustee and Chairman of the Administrative Board. He loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren, and his community. He loved sharing stories and reminiscing about growing up in Chalybeate around his cousins, friends, and his late grandfather Charlie McClure Rowe, and has often been referred to by his friends as “the unofficial Mayor of Chalybeate”. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Rowe, Sr. and a brother and sister-in-law, James and Denise Rowe.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Inez Bloodworth Rowe; his mother Nettie Chapman Rowe; a son, Brian Rowe (Leanne Hamilton); a daughter, Sonya Davis (Roger); and three grandchildren, Lauren Davis, Zack Davis and Hannah Rowe, all of Chalybeate Springs; a brother, Arthur Richard Rowe, Jr. (Judy) of Boynton Beach, Fl.; several nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins including Gary Parrish and Loretta Cato, who were raised along with Charlie Will as his siblings.

Michael Ralph Walton, MSG (US ARMY RET), age 68 of Warm Springs, Ga., passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Chapel of Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home in Woodbury, with Chaplain Paul Berghaus officiating. iIntermentwith full military honors will follow in the Greenville City Cemetery.

Mr. Walton was born May 29, 1946 in Manchester, Ga., the son of Ralph H. Walton and Rachel Argroves Walton. He was retired from the Foreign Service after seventeen years and had served prior with the U. S. Army for twenty-three years, retiring in 1989 as a Master Sergeant. He retired back to Meriwether County with his loving wife of forty years, Kuei Yu Walton.
He is survived by his wife Kuei Yu Walton of Warm Springs; his daughters, Christine of North Carolina, Tara of South Carolina, and Elke of South Carolina; three grandchildren, Amelia Walden, Madeleine Walden and Charlie McGowan; a sister, Sandra Walton Blalock and her husband Bobby of Zebulon, Ga.; a brother, Terry Walton and his wife Andrea of Woodbury, Ga.; his Aunts Carol Kitchens and her husband Mack of Greenville, Ga., and Agnes Walton of Woodbury; Uncles, Harry Argroves and his wife Dorothy of Greenville, and James "Bo" Argroves of Greenville, also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
