Elisha 'Hamp" Tanner

Elijah Hampton Tanner, 77, of Athens passed away Monday December 6, 2004.
A native of Coffee County, Mr. Tanner was a son of the late Elijah A. and Ada Mae Anderson Tanner. He was preceded in death by daughters, Lisa Louise Lavender and Susan Carol Tanner. He graduated from Lanier High School in Macon and attended the University of Georgia on an academic and athletic scholarship where he played football. He went on to play NFL football for the San Francisco 49's and the Dallas Texans. He is a member of the National Football League Alumni. He retired from Brashears Steel Company in Albany, GA and was employed for the last 10 years at Kroger on College Station Road. He was a member of the Hasan Shrine Temple in Albany and a member of the Green Acres Baptist Church in Athens.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Carolyn Tanner; a daughter, Sherry Lynn Conrad of Cumming; a step-son Ralph Clinton Almond, Jr. of Winterville; a sister: Sara Francis Bannister of Macon.
Funeral Services will be held 2 pm Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at Green Acres Baptist Church. iIntermentwill follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at Bernstein Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions may be made to Green Acres Baptist Church at 2085 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens GA 30605.

Mr. Alfred Jones Woods, Jr. “AJ”, age 60, of Cedartown, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2011. He was born on June 3, 1951 in Cedartown. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Jones Woods, Sr. and Grace Cline Woods.
AJ is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, William and Nancy Woods; daughter, Patricia Mae Smith; step-daughter, Barbara Ann Barnett; four grandchildren, Aaron Barnett, Jacob Barnett, Shelby Smith and Julie Smith; two nieces, Melinda Folsom and Courtney Jones, and one great niece, Emily Folsom.
AJ is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Margie Sue Woods and Mary Ellen Woods.
The funeral arrangements for AJ Woods will be conducted on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at two o’clock in the afternoon in the Chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy Frazier English officiating.

Ms. Lillian Anna Marie Sealander Amberlock, age 99, of Cedartown, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2011. She was born on March 23, 1912 in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Ms. Amberlock is survived by a niece and nephew, Gerald and Linda Hannon.
Ms. Amberlock is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sealander; husband, James William Amberlock and brothers, Bud Sealander and Ernie Sealander.
In keeping with Ms. Amberlock’s wishes she was cremated. A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at ten o’clock in the morning at the Gammage Funeral Home with Father Jose Duvan- Gonzales officiating.

Herbert Wayne Terry, 93, of Iris Place died Thursday, October 28, 2004.
A native of Acworth, Georgia, Mr. Terry was the son of the late Noah Blaine and Mamie Lee Osborne Terry. He was president of Colonial Poultry Company and later manager of Gold Kist Poultry. After retirement he was controller of Terry Inc and Terry Development. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Elliott Garrard Terry of Athens; sons and daughters-in-law: Randolph Wayne and Evelyn Terry of Richmond, VA and Tom and Jan Terry of Spartanburg, SC; daughters and sons-in-law: Suzanne and Walton Young of Duluth, GA and Debra and Mike Wooten of Athens; and sister, Frances Marshall of Athens.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2004 at St. James United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kent Reynolds officiating. Entombment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Bernstein Funeral Home Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:00.

James 'Buddy' Edwin Smith, 40, of 1071 McRee's Mill Road, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2004.
A native of Clarke County, Mr. Smith was the son of James Smith of Athens and Frankie Bellew Messer of Winterville. He was the owner of Sonny's Carpets in Athens. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Madison County. Buddy fell in love and married
Karen Dorsey of Statham. They made their home in Oconee County where she was born and raised.
Survivors in addition to his parents include his wife, Karen Dorsey Smith; sons: Sonny and James Smith; sisters: Pam Weisman, Tammy Smith Allen and Laurie Smith; brother: Jeff Smith; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 3 pm Thursday December 9, 2004 in Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Northcutt officiating. iIntermentwill follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Allen, Oscar Parada, Craig Guntharp, James Evans, Benny Burgess and Jeff Smith.

Betty Margaret Brown Holland

Mrs. Betty Margaret Brown Holland, age 78, of Villa Rica, Georgia, formerly of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, August 03, 2011. She was born July 18, 1933 in Cedartown, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William (Bill) and Mary Hulsey Brown.
Mrs. Holland was raised in and lived the majority of her life in Cedartown. She married
Charles W. Holland in 1949 and they remained together until his death in 1995.
Mrs. Holland moved to Villa Rica in 2005 to be closer to her grandchildren, but her heart remained in Polk County.
In addition to her husband, Charles, and her parents she is preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Herbert Johnson; step-grandson, Alan Moore.
Mrs. Holland is survived by daughters and their families: Alicia Holland and Dr. Kenneth Puryear of Visalia, California and Angie and James Hooker of Douglasville, Georgia; step-daughter, Jane Liveoak Frew and husband, Vance; sister, Lettie Swafford; three grandchildren, Matt Woods, Madison Woods and Alexa Hooker and two step- grandchildren, Tyler Moore and Ashley Moore. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Bill and his wife Lisa Johnson, Jill Johnson, Greg Swafford, Suzanne Swafford, and Leigh Ann Swafford.
The funeral arrangements for Mrs. Holland will be conducted on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at two o’clock in the afternoon in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Earnest Thompson officiating and Mr. Bill Johnson delivering the eulogy.

Mrs. Ruby Frances Jones Roberts, age 61, of Cedartown, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2011. She was born on October 2, 1949 in Dekalb, Alabama.
Frances worked for many years as a sales clerk at Builders Station in Cedartown.
Frances is survived by her loving husband, Dale Roberts; mother, Dorothy Agnes Jones; daughters, Amy Thomas, Kim Sessions and Carolyn Floyd; brothers, James Jones and Mark Jones; grandchildren, Seaun Sessions, Ryan Thomas, Brooke Thomas and Preston Thomas and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Frances is preceded in death by her father, Mr. Calvin H. Jones and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George and Ruby Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Lollie Roberts.
A private family funeral service for Frances was held.
