Elizabeth was a dedicated mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband: Frank “Keno” Zara; two daughters: Linda Zara Garrett and Frances Zara Bodnar; one son: Joseph Wayne Zara and two sisters: Mary Harris and Evalina Maragni.

Phillip W. Atha, 69 of Loganville, died Friday, July 28, 2006. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. , Sunday, July 30 in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home. The Rev. Kenny Barrett officiated. Burial followed at Mt. Paran Church Cemetery in Monroe. Pallbearers included: Billie Mitchell, J.W. Atha, Hoyt Stancil, Chris Atha, Bob Doster and Stanley Jackson.

William Daniel Odum, 73 of Bostwick died July 26, 2006 at Walton Regional Medical Center. Mr. Odum was the son of Clarence and Florence Moon Odum of Campton. Survivors include: wife: Shirley McCannon Odum and two daughters: Dayna and husband Randy Head, Monroe and Lisa Parr, Madison; grandchildren: Alex and Austin Head, Jesse parr and Lindsay Stovall.

Emmett Thomas Clegg, 88 of Social Circle, died on Aug. 3, 2006. He was born in Walton County on March 3, 1918 to the late Daniel Edgar Clegg and the late Roxie Ann Hanson Clegg. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Daniel Edgar Clegg and the late Roxie Ann Hanson Clegg; step-mother: the late Susie Everette Clegg. Emmett Clegg and his wife Frances were married for 69 years.

Mary W. Walker
Mary w. Walker, 72 of Monroe died August 3, 2006. A life long resident of Walton County, she was the first female bank president in the state, becoming president of the National Bank of Walton County in 1973, and retired in 1991, a career that started when she was in high school. She had served on the Jekyll Island Authority, Federal Reserve Board of Directors, GTE Board of Directors, the Private Colleges and Universities Facilities Authority and was a member of the Monroe First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Monroe Golf and Country Club and was an accomplished golfer and past president of the Monroe Pilot Club.

Frances Matilda (Cookie) Sanders, 93, of Monroe died August 1, 2006. A native of Welch, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Fieldon and Blanche Carr Cook. She came to Georgia in 1930 to study at Wesleyan College and met Mortimer Tharper Sanders, the proprietor of Sanders Furniture Company in Monroe.

William Ray Nelson
William Ray Nelson passed away peacefully on Aug. 4, 2006 after an extended illness. Ray was born in Belton, S.C. on Dec. 12, 1927 to the late George and Wyonea Nelson. The youngest of 11 children, Ray was typically referred to as “Baby Ray”. His love for learning became evident at Belton-Hodea Path High School. After graduation, Ray went back to high school for one more year in order to play football and serve as editor of the school yearbook. During this time, Ray earned Eagle Scout. Upon his second high school graduation, Ray attended Furman University and Clemson University.

Tony Eugene Martin
Mr. Tony Eugene Martin, 55, passed away quietly in his home on July 29, 2006, following a long battle with cancer. Mr. Martin, a native of Walton County was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He will be missed by all. Tony was a carpenter most of his life, he loved his family and friends and he never met a stranger. He loved his grandchildren, and they will truly miss “Paw-Paw”. Tony accepted Jesus Christ into his life on Feb. 14, 2000, a day that changed his life forever. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Oxford and he was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Golden Fleece Lodge #6.
