Robert ‘Red’ Bowers
Services for Robert “Red” Bowers of Pembroke were held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 29 at Morrison Memorial Chapel with interment in Northside Cemetery.
The Elder Spencer Moore and the Rev. Jack Hudson officiated.
Bowers, 85, died Wednesday evening, April 26, 2005, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
He was the son of the late Rev. Victor Pinckney Bowers and Ella Morrison Bowers and was married to Mary Jane Bowers of Pembroke.
A native of Pembroke, he was a lifelong member of Pembroke Christian Church where he served as a deacon, elder and Sunday School Teacher for the adult class for over 50 years.
He served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII on the USS Leo where he was a landing boat officer patrolling the coast of both Okinawa and Iwogima. He attained the rank of Junior Lieutenant in the Naval Reserve. After his tour of duty, he resumed his teaching and coaching career in McRae, then in Bryan County High School, where he taught and coached football and boys and girls basketball and track.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Clark Bowers of Statesboro; daughter, Connie B. and J. David Everett of Sea Island; and four grandchildren.

Georgie Frances Harbin
Services for Georgie Frances Harbin of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 26 at McRae First Baptist Church with interment in Scotland Cemetery.
The Rev. William Connell and the Rev. Ronald Warnock officiated.
Harbin, 88, died Monday, April 25, 2005 at McRae Manor Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late Valarie Warnock and David Washington Harbin of Wheeler County.
A lifelong resident of Telfair County, she was a retired school teacher from Telfair and Wheeler County. She taught Ladies Three Sunday School Class for many years, was actively working with the youth in the training union, was a member of the Missionary Society of McRae First Baptist Church and was associated with the Retired Teacher Association.
Survivors included many cousins on the Harbin and Warnock side of the family.
In honor of Harbin, the Ladies Three Sunday School Class sat together. Pallbearers were Melvin Marchant, Earl Merritt, Cotton Jones, T.W. Walker, Skip McCrillis, and Billy Routh. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of the First Baptist Church.
Donations may be made to the First Baptist Church or to McRae Manor Nursing Home.

Lucy McDuffie Ladson
Services for Lucy McDuffie Ladson of McRae were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 3 at McRae First Baptist Church with interment in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Dr. William Connell and the Rev. Thomas Kehayes officiated.
Ladson, 65, died Sunday, May 1, 2005. She was the daughter of Pearl McDuffie and the late Orice Lee “Doc” McDuffie and was married to James B. Ladson.
A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, she was a retired buyer for Roper and American Yard Products and a member of McRae First Baptist Church. She had the honor of being the first and only female elected to serve as chairman of the Telfair County Board of Education.
In addition to her husband and mother, survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Guylynn Hinson of Eastman; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Tom Cranford of Eastman and Jill and John Calhoun of Dothan, Ala.; and brother, Larry McDuffie of Atlanta; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild also survive.
Contributions may be made to Hospice Care Options, 718 Griffin St., Eastman, Ga. 31023.

Dorothy Lee Tarver Middleton
Services for Dorothy Lee Tarver Middleton of Chauncey were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30 at Chauncey Chapel Baptist Church with interment in the Mullin Hills Cemetery.
The Rev. John Smith officiated.
Middleton, 75, died Sunday, April 24, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Ruffin and Isabelle Tarver and was a native of Bartow, Fla.
Survivors include her son, Ervin Middleton of Savannah; brother, James Tarver Jr. of Chauncey; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Betty Lee King Woods
Services for Betty Lee King Woods of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at the Old Central Gym in McRae with interment in the Pine Acres Cemetery.
The Rev. W.L. McCloud officiated.
Woods, 51, died Sunday, April 17, 2005 at the Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Eddie L. and Mamie King, and was married to Eugene Woods Jr. She was a native of Laurens County.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her daughters, Sabrina Tobler, Katrina Clark and Tonika Woods, all of McRae and Pamela Coleman of Eastman; sons, Gregory Woods and Derrick Woods, both of McRae; sisters, Hazel Lamons, Ernestine Oglesby, Beatrice Scott of Hazlehurst, Cora Lee Height, Deloris Lampkin, Jamie Hall, and Doretha Gibson; brothers, Eddie King, David King, Ray Charles King, Eddie King, Robert King, and Willie James King; and 14 grandchildren.

Milton Vance ‘Mickey’ Turner
Services for Milton Vance “Mickey” Turner of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 15 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in Oakgrove Cemetery.
Turner, 72, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005. He was the son of the late Vance and Nellie Ledford Turner and was married to Peggy Sweat Turner. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Thigpen of Waycross and one brother, Robert Turner of Warsaw, Ill.
In addition to his wife, survivors two daughters, Nancy Moore of McRae, and Julie Davis of Atlanta; two grandchildren, Jason Hulett of Jonesboro, Ark., and Kristie Moore of McRae; one brother, Charles Turner of Warner Robins, and several nieces and nephews.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.
Eleanor Joy Cox Wells
Services for Eleanor Joy Cox Wells of Alamo were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9 at Alamo First Baptist Church with interment in Alamo Cemetery.
Wells, 57, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005. She was married to Jimmy Wells.
She was a member of the Alamo First Baptist Church, American Heart Association, and the Wheeler County Recreation Department Board, and was a retired rural route U.S. Post Office carrier and former Public Librarian.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Chris Miller of Athens; son and daughter-in-law, Jody and Emily Wells; son, Jeremy Wells; sister and brother-in-law, Gwen and Steve Jones, all of Alamo; anticipated granddaughter, Lucy Joy Miller, and many nieces and nephews.
Donations may be made to Alamo First Baptist, American Cancer Society and Community Hospice of Vidalia.

Bobby Quinn Christian
Services for Bobby Quinn Christian of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in Vienna.
Christian, 70, died Saturday, July 16, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. He was the son of Evelyn Christian of Tifton and was married to Mary Christian.
He was a retired Georgia State Trooper and police chief for the City of Helena.
In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include three sons, Bob (Glenda) of Baxley, Randy (Dorcas) of Milan, and David of Lumber City; three sisters, Martha Helms of Aribi, Mary Harris of Aberdene, N.C., and Carolyn Jones of Ashburn; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Bernon D. Brown
Graveside services for Bernon D. Brown of Alamo were held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July, 19 in the Alamo City Cemetery.
Brown, 81, died Sunday, July 17, 2005 at Wheeler County Hospital. He was the son of the late Nathan Brown and Allie Gay Brown and the widower of Mettie Lee Brown. He was a retired carpenter.
Survivors include his daughters, Debra McDaniel and Peggy McHale, both of Alamo; sisters, Ty Jett of Orange Springs, Fla. and Mamie Johnson of Jupiter, Fla.; brothers; Jasper Brown of Claxton, and Willis Brown of Midway; and two grandchildren.
