JOHN JOINES
Nov. 14, 1928 - Jan. 27, 2003

Mr. John Garland Joines, 74, passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, in Climax, Ga.
Mr. Joines was born Nov. 14, 1928, in Lenoir, N.C., to the late Alonzo Mott and Nora Dula Joines. He was retired U.S. Navy. After retirement, he worked for the State of Florida in the Marshall’s Office of the District Court of Appeals. Mr. Joines was a member of the Moriah’s Chapel, Lenoir.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, graveside, with full military honors at Piedmont Cemetery, Calvary, Ga., with the Elder Thad Marshall officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Johnson Joines, Calvary; sons, Jon Paul Joines and Jeremiah Price Joines, both of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister, Mary Joines Long, Monroe, N.C.; and a brother, James Joines, Lenoir. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Kenneth Joines.
Clark Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM LANFORD SR.
May 24, 1922 - Jan. 24, 2003

Funeral services for William James Lanford Sr., 80, of 660 Bell Alley, N.E., Cairo, Ga., were held Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Shiloh #1 Missionary Baptist Church, 157 Shiloh Road, Cairo. Rev. Raymond Mills, pastor, officiated. iIntermentfollowed at Crestview Cemetery.
Mr. Lanford, son of the late Will Moore and Ludie Hicks Lanford, was born May 24, 1922, in Grady County, Ga. He lived his entire life in Grady County and did farm work until he retired. He was united in holy matrimony to Mae Alice Mango on April 5, 1941. She preceded him in death April 29, 2001. He was a member of the Shiloh #1 Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Lanford departed this life on Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at his residence. He is preceded in death by three sisters, Hattie McCree, Ocie Bell Haynes and Willie M. Thigpen; one brother, Claude Moore; an aunt, Lucille Ware; and an uncle Cosmo Hicks.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a son, Williams James “Joe Boy” Lanford Jr., Cairo; a sister, Ruby Solomon, Temple Hill, Md.; two brothers-in-law, Charlie Mango, Cairo and Robert (Lillie) Mango, Pelham, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Annie Will Bolden, Atlanta, Ga.; Goddaughter, Gloria (Russell) Lewis, Cairo; nieces, Odessa Calhoun, Thomasville, Ga., Helen Johnson and Betty Burrell, both of Philadelphia, Pa., Pastor Annie Grace Mack and Evangelist Effie Quarles, both of Temple Hill, and Evangelist Ludie Gibson, Capital Heights, Md.; nephews, Arthur Solomon and L.C. Solomon, both of Cairo, A.B. Solomon and Charles McCree, both of Thomasville, and Leroy McCree, Philadelphia; a devoted cousin, Clara Stallworth, Cairo; devoted friends, Ola Mae Smith, Linda Hines, Eugene Thornton and Willie T. Willis, all of Cairo; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Williford’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

JANIE MONTGOMERY
Dec. 7, 1950 - Jan. 24, 2003

Mrs. Janie McCant Montgomery, 52, passed away Jan. 24, 2003, at Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville, Ga.
Mrs. Montgomery was born Dec. 7, 1950, in Grady County, Ga., to the late Mr. and Mrs. Curlie McCant Sr. She attended Grady County public schools and was a member of the First Pilgrim M.B. Church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at First Mt. Pilgrim M.B. Church with the Rev. Alex Garman Jr. officiating. iIntermentfollowed at First Mt. Pilgrim Church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were sons and son-in-law.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Class of 1967.
Survivors include three children, Frederick (Sharon), Gregory (Selena) and Shalanda (George) Williams, all of Cairo, Ga.; three sisters, Edna Frazier, Altanta, Ga., Queen Knight and Sarah (Ronald) Winkfield, both of Albany, Ga.; three brothers, Curlie McCant Jr., Augusta, Ga., Willie McCant, Pine Park, Ga., and Altol (Brenda) McCant, Albany; mother-in-law, Katie Montgomery; sister-in-law, Marilyn Montgomery; two Goddaughters, Tamara Clark and Travora Riley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, PFC George (Ann) McCant.
Weston’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

EARL ODOM
April 7, 1936 - Feb. 2, 2003

Rev. Earl Mose Odom, 66, of 353 W. Railroad St., Pelham, Ga., passed away Feb. 2, 2003, at Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville, Ga.
Rev. Odom was born in Seminole County, Ga., April 7, 1936, to the late Bertah Lee and Charlie Odom. He was married to Mary Sowell Odom, who preceded him in death. Rev. Odom was the owner and operator of Pelham Transmission. He was a member of Christian Life Center Assembly of God Church in Moultrie, Ga.
Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Braswell Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Charles Odom Jr. and Franklin Russ officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Pinecrest Memory Gardens.
Survivors include a son, Tim Odom, Adel, Ga.; a grandson, Brady Odom, Moultrie; stepmother, Mrs. Linda Odom, Meigs, Ga.; two brothers, Charles Odom Jr., Moultrie and Steve Odom, Pelham; and sisters, Shirley Levins, Mobile, Ala., Liz Spence, Thomasville, Alice Barrett, Cairo, Ga., Bertha Odom, Meigs, and Wylene Montgomery, Meigs.
Braswell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

JUNIOR RIFFLE
Sept. 5, 1930 - Feb. 2, 2003

Mr. Junior Franklin Riffle, 72, passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, in Melbourne, Fla.
Mr. Riffle was born Sept. 5, 1930, in West Virginia, to the late Herman Edward and Myrtle Dove Bennett Riffle. He was currently residing in Colquitt, Ga. Mr. Riffle was a well driller for Shorty’s Well Drilling and a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Clark Funeral Home Chapel, Cairo, with the Rev. Van Webb of Bainbridge, Ga., officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo.
Active pallbearers were Tony Egan, Joey Egan, Christopher Riffle, Matthew Cox, Bruce Frazier and Vince Egan.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia M. Riffle, Colquitt; son, Chuck Riffle, Bainbridge; daughters, Patty Egan, Melbourne, Peggy Reynolds, Colquitt, Naomi Frazier, Easley, S.C., and Karen Mobley, Colquitt; sisters, Lillie Odom, Arlington, Ga., and Alice Mae Odum, Cairo; and 10 grandchildren.
Clark Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

JA’MEISHA SHEPHERD
March 10, 1996 - Jan. 24, 2003

Miss Ja’Meisha Shepherd, 6, passed away Jan. 24, 2003, at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, Ga.
Miss Shepherd was born March 10, 1996, in Cairo, to Greg Butler and Lashandra Shepherd. She attended Grady County public schools.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at New White Spring M.B. Church, with the Rev. Dellise Cox officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Pallbearers Cemetery, Hwy. 112 North, Cairo.
Survivors include her father, Greg Butler, Cairo; her devoted mother, Lashandra Shepherd, Cairo; one brother, Roemello Butler, Beachton, Ga.; a devoted Godmother, Sonja Daniels, Cairo; grandparents, the late Robert and Frances Shepherd and Sharon Butler, Cairo; four uncles, Robert Shepherd Jr. and James Sims, both of Cairo, Joe Shepherd, Atlanta, Ga., and Jeffery Shazer, Albany, Ga.; four aunts, Diane Sims and Tiffany Butler, both of Cairo, Twanda Cooper, Bainbridge, Ga., and Renate Shepherd, Atlanta; a host of great-aunts and uncles; cousins and friends; and devoted great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.C. and Jessie Mae Gordon and Mrs. Margeret W. Butler.

BARBARA CRAWFORD
Aug. 23, 1939 - March 19, 2003

Mrs. Barbara Rackley Crawford, 63, passed away March 19, 2003, at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, Ga.
Mrs. Crawford was born Aug. 23, 1939, in Greenville, S.C., to the late James Allen Sr. and Clara McLees Rackley. She was married to Charles T. Crawford who preceded her in death on April 13, 1980. Mrs. Crawford was a longtime resident of Cairo and a dedicated homemaker.
A private memorial services was held by the family.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Donna and Danny Lamar Sheffield, Cairo, and Ava Joyce Robinson, Clarksville, Tenn.; a son, Charles Anthony Crawford, Cross City, Fla.; a brother, James Allen Rackley, Perry, Fla.; sister, Debra Rackley, Fanning Springs, Fla.; grandchildren, Larry Robinson, Sr., Oak Grove, Ky., Charles Tyrus Crawford, Ochlocknee, Ga., Trina Davis Clanton, Pelham, Ga., Joseph Breeden Jr., Clarksville, Donnie Sheffield, Cairo, and Amber Lyn Crawford, Clarksville; and great-grandchildren, Kayla Robinson, Clarksville, Daniel Rose, Maryland, Taylor Crawford, Ochlocknee, Darren Joseph Clanton, Pelham, Tyler Austin Crawford, Ochlocknee, Joseph Christopher Breeden, Clarksville, and Dakota Harjo, Tennessee.

ROSCOE JOHNSON JR.
April 2, 1958 - March 23, 2003

Mr. Roscoe Johnson Jr., 44, passed away March 23, 2003, at his place of residence in Cairo, Ga.
Mr. Johnson was born in Grady County, Ga., April 2, 1958, to Bertha Johnson and the late Roscoe Johnson. He attended Grady County schools and was a truck driver.
Services were held at Mt. Ararat Primitive Baptist Church, McCrayville, Ga., on March 29, 2003, at 12 noon with Elder S.L. Phillips and Elder Moses Harrison officiating. iIntermentfollowed at McIntyre Cemetery, McCrayville.
Active pallbearers were Kelvin Johnson, Hasson Sinclair, Jimmy Johnson Jr., Authur Herring, Derick Johnson and Jacoby Cosby.
Honorary pallbearers included Timothy Threatts, Waymum Williams, Victor Smith, Richard Clark, Thomas Spencer and Phillip Montgomery.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Johnson, Cairo; daughters, Laberea Johnson (Victor), Havana, Fla., Pamela Johnson (Quinton), Valeria Johnson (Thomas) and Latonya Johnson (Timothy), all of Tallahassee, Fla., and Brittney Johnson, Cairo; six grandchildren; his mother, Bertha Johnson, McCrayville; brothers, Joe Johnson (Helen), California, Edward Johnson (Betty), Piney Wood, Fla., Jimmy Johnson (Angie), Cairo, and Carl Johnson, McCrayville; sisters, Eunice Pease (Willie), Jenny Hightower and Mary Rogers (Willie), all of Havana, Jacqueline Mango (Benny), Blountstown, Fla., and Doris Byrden, McCrayville; father-in-law, Freddie Swain, Orlando, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Gloria Murphy (Willie), Orlando, Mary Williams (Henry), Tallahassee, and Farica Jones (Sylvester), Havana; brothers-in-law, Terry Williams (Margaret) and Larry Williams, all of Orlando; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

EARL WALL
June 2, 1934 - March 26, 2003

Mr. Earl James Wall, 68, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in Whigham, Ga.
Mr. Wall as born June 2, 1934, in Marion, Iowa, to the late John Walter and Ella Kristina Majteka Wall. He was a salesman with the Pepsi Cola Company and a served in the United States Air Force.
Services were held graveside at Baxter Memorial Garden, Mountain Home, Ark., on Saturday, March 29, 2003, with the Rev. Harold Barnett officiating.
Survivors include a son, James Earl Wall, Whigham; a brother, Richard C. Wall, Murfeesboro, , Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Wall, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nieces, Gayle Grissell, Cedar Rapids, and Judy Wall, Arizona; and a nephew, Randall Wall, Murfeesboro.

JOHN WILLIAMS SR.
Sept. 17, 2003 - March 27, 2003

Mr. John Albert Williams Sr., 71, passed away March 27, 2003, in Atlanta, Ga.
Mr. Williams was born Sept. 17, 2003, in Cairo, Ga., to the late John Alvin and Louvenia Aldredge Williams. He was a retired insurance agent with American General Insurance Co. and a member of the Druid Hills Baptist Church, Atlanta.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2003, graveside at Greenwood Cemetery, Atlanta, with the Rev. Robert Franklin officiating.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, or the Diabetes Association.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Clark Williams, Atlanta; a son and daughter-in-law, John Albert Jr., and Sherry William, Jonesboro, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Russell Beard, Sylvester, Ga., Trudy and Eddie Densmore, Lilburn, Ga., and Peggy and Donald Gill, Atlanta; a brother and sister-in-law, J.
