Mr. Ronald Mark Huckeba, 31, of Cairo, Ga., passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at his place of residence.
Mr. Huckeba was born May 3, 1972, in Atlanta, Ga. to Mary Frances Sowell Gay of Tifton, Ga., and the late Ronald Huckeba. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed listening to music.
Services were held at the Chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors on Sunday, July 27, 2003, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Edwin Dillard officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Oakridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Raymond Wood, Scott Gober, Russell Huckeba, Zenas Watson, Jimmy Taylor and Rusty Huckeba.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Gay, Tifton; his stepfather, Ottis Gay, Bellview, Fla.; brothers, Raymond Wood, Cairo and Michael Barker, Atlanta; a sister, Nicole McNichols, Cairo; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

WENDELL ULM

Mr. Wendell Ulm, 83, passed away July 24, 2003, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Glendale, Ky.
Mr. Ulm was born Jan. 31, 1920, in Grady County, Ga., to the late William H. and Della O. Johnson Ulm. He was the former owner of Topton Motor Service in Topton, N.C., and was a member of the Pine Level Baptist Church, Cairo, Ga.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 25, 2003, at 5 p.m., at Gilead Baptist Church in Glendale, with the Rev. Nathan Joyce officiating. iIntermentfollowed at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2003, at Pine Level Cemetery, Cairo, with the Rev. Jim Weaver officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Pine Level Baptist Church Building Fund, 298 Pine Level Road, Cairo, Ga. 39827.
Survivors include his wife, Hettie Womble Ulm, Glendale; daughters, Martha Hill, Glendale, and Susan Krishnan, New Hope, Pa.; a sister, Dorothy Ulm Wheeler, Albany, Ga.; grandsons, David Hill, Jason Hill, and Stephen Hill; and one great-grandson.

Mr. Lessley Vicks, 49, passed away July 15, 2003, at Pinewood Nursing Home, Whigham, Ga.
Mr. Vicks was born April 3, 1954, in Whigham, to Mrs. Ruby Vicks and the late Mr. Wessley Vicks.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at New Life Praises and Deliverance Church with Bishop Frank Brinson officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Crestview Cemetery, Cairo.
Active pallbearers were friends of the family.
Survivors include two sons, Wessley Lamar Vicks and Lessley Vicks Jr., both of Cairo, Ga.; his mother, Ruby Lee Vicks, Cairo; a sister, Dorothy Vann, Thomasville, Ga.; four nephews, Donnell (Teresa) Washington, Cairo, Leo Floyd, Elvin Vann Jr. Thomasville, and Cecil Washington, Atlanta, Ga.; three nieces, Diane Washington, Lorraine (Melvin) Grimes, Thomasville, and Carolyn (Don) Jackson, Virginia; he also leaves behind a special friend, Miss Patricia Willis, and her children that he loved and helped raise as he took them to be his own, Stephanie (Randy) Mayo, Bobby Willis and Terry Willis; and grandchildren, Raven Mayo, Randy Mayo Jr., Jamiracle Mayo, Anthony Brown Jr., Bobby Willis Jr., Shanta Williams and Dee Mayo.

Graveside services for Lonelle Singletary Barrett of Cairo, Ga., were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at Barnetts Creek Cemetery. The Rev. Lee Brookins officiated.
Mrs. Barrett passed away Nov. 14, 2003, at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, Ga. She was born April 9, 1939, in Grady County, Ga. She was the daughter of the late D.J. and Gladys Murphy Brookins. She was married
to Spencer Singletary, who preceded her in death and Legette Barrett, who survives. She was a homemaker and a member of Barnetts Creek Baptist Church.
Other survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Travis Spencer Jr. and Lori Singletary, Crestview, Fla., Jack and Lisa Fletcher Singletary, Thomasville, Tim and Karen Leabo Singletary, Cairo, and stepson, Heath Barrett, Ocala, Fla.; brothers, Harold Brookins and Jimmy Brookins, both of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; sisters, Iris Launa Brookins, Dunedin, Fla., and Linda Wells, Cairo. To her grandchildren, she was Oma. Their names are Hannah Singletary, Travis Spencer Singletary III, Spencer Ellis Singletary, Jackson Dent Singletary, John Murphy Singletary, Zach Singletary, Levi Singletary and Justin Barrett. She was preceded in death by brothers, Ernest Brookins, Billy Brookins, Laffayete Brookins and Hugh Brookins, and a grandson, Mason Barrett.

Mrs. Varo Christine Christie Cooper, 90, of 1169 Spence Rd., Pelham, Ga., passed away Nov. 16, 2003, at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, Ga.
Mrs. Cooper was born in Thomas County, Ga., April 6, 1913, to the late Janie Sculley Christie and Alonzo Christie. She was married
to Mr. Kelso Cooper of Pelham on June 21, 1942. Mrs. Cooper was a member of the First Christian Church of Cairo and a retired school teacher and grocery store owner.
Services were held at Braswell Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at 3 p.m. with Brother Jack Wolfgang officiating and the Rev. Billy Nealy assisting. iIntermentfollowed at Springhill Christian Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers included Jerry Humphries, Wayne Spence, R.L. Brannon, Donald Cooper, Aubrey Collins and Homer Ansley.

Mr. Louis Stanley Kalin, 79, passed away Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, Ga.
Mr. Kalin was born April 30, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Louis and Mary Jerkic Kalin. He was a resident of Whigham, Ga., served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, was a retired chief petty officer for the U.S. Navy and was of the Catholic faith.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at Whigham Baptist Church, Whigham, with the Rev. Harold Burrell officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Woodlawn Cemetery, Whigham.
Active pallbearers included Lee Washington, Buck Collins, Philip Hall, Wendell Larkin, Howard Newberry and Alan Hartsfield.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi Clark Kalin, whom he married

CHARLES PHILLIPS

Mr. Charles F. Phillips Sr., 56, of Lakeland, Ga., passed away Friday morning, Nov. 14, 2003, in Hillside, Va., from an apparent heart attack.
He was born in Grady County, Ga., and had lived in Lanier County, Ga., most of his life. Charles was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. He worked 34 years in textiles. He was retired from Amoco Fabrics & Fibers in Nashville, Ga., and presently plant manager of Wayn-Tex, Inc. located in Hillsville, Va. Charles was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Lakeland.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, in the Chapel of Music Funeral Home in Lakeland. Burial followed at Good Hope Cemetery, Naylor, Ga.

Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, F.D. and Kay D. Wilkerson, his stepfather, Clifford Lawhorn, and one brother, Edwin Phillips.

Funeral services for Mrs. Trudie Hicks Ware “Lucile” were conducted on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Bethlehem African Methodist Episcopal Church. The Rev. Jacquelin Smith officiated. iIntermentfollowed at Cedar Springs African Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery, Whigham, Ga.
Mrs. Ware was born Feb. 12, 1921, to the late Brother George and Hattie Chandler Hicks, in Grady County, Ga. She attended the Grady County school system. At an early age she was converted and joined the church. Most of her life was spent in the general area. She was married
to Curley Ware, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Ware passed away on Nov. 8, 2003, while visiting her daughter and son-in-law in Riceboro, Ga., Liberty County.
Her survivors include four sons, Hallie Solomon, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Johnny Ware, Terrence Ware and Robert Ware, all of Cairo; four daughters, Mattie Jones, Riceboro, Mary Bell Solomon, Jacksonville, Fla., Shirley Ann Glasco, Cairo, and Evelyn Landers, Havana, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sons-in-law; daughters-in-law; nieces; nephews; cousins; and other relatives and friends. Two children preceded her in death, one at birth, and Mrs. Alma Jackson. All of her siblings preceded her in death, Buddy, R-Ray, Rollen, Henry, Leroy, Ludie, Gladys, George and L.C. Hicks.

Joshua Andrew Wheeler, 11, of Stafford, Va., passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at his residence.
He was a member of Richland Baptist Church in Hartwood, Va.
He is survived by his parents, David and Sherri Wheeler; a sister, Corrie Wheeler; his maternal grandparents, Bobby E. and Mary Ann Andrews of Albany, Ga.; his paternal grandmother, Mary Ann Stroud of Portsmouth, Ohio; his maternal great-grandmother, Lillian Andrews, Cairo, Ga.; and an aunt, Kally Stroud of Columbus, Ohio.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at Richland Baptist Church with the Rev. James Bethany officiating. Entombment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg, Va.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or to a local animal rescue service.
