Mrs. Thelma Larkins Whigham, 80, passed away Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at
Grady General Hospital in Cairo, Ga.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2003 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel in Bainbridge, Ga., with the Rev. Harold J. Combs and Rev. Scott Cook officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Sylvania cemetery near Faceville, Ga., with Marcus Lee, Michael Lee, David Whigham, Marisa W. Moore, Bert Hines, and Brian Hines serving as active pallbearers.
Mrs. Whigham was born April 14, 1923 in Decatur County, Ga., the daughter of Thomas and Neater Brown Larkins. She graduated from Faceville High School in 1942 and was a member of Hannatown United Methodist Church. She lived in Faceville most of her life, and moved to Cairo in 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Erle Whigham, and a daughter, Joanie W. Hines.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Barbara Whigham of Warner Robins, Ga.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanie W. And Winfred Lee of Cairo; a son-in-law, Terry Hines of Stockbridge, Ga.; and six grandchildren, Marcus Lee and Michael Lee, both of Cairo, David Whigham of Atlanta, Ga., Marisa W. Moore (and husband Chris) of Dallas, TX, Bert Hines of Ocala, Fla., and Brian Hines of Bainbridge, Ga.

ARCHIE ADAMS
June 7, 1914 - Jan. 25, 2004
Mr. Archie David Adams of Mineral Bluff passed away on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at the age of 89 in Cairo, Ga.
He was born on June 7, 1914, in Grady Co., Ga., to Archie and Willie H. McCullar Adams. He married
Mary Grace Jordan on Jan. 31, 1940. Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 64 years, a son, Roy Milton Adams, and his wife, Mattie, of Whigham, Ga.; a daughter, Martha Adams Newell and her husband, Steve, of Lusby, Md.; as well as numerous cousins; grandchildren; great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his brother, William H. Adams, a daughter, Mary Irena Adams Parle and a son, Archie David Adams Jr.
Mr. Adams was an over-the-road truck driver for more than 40 years and retired to North Georgia in the early 1980s. He enjoyed his family and friends, gardening, and sharing the beauty of north Georgia with visiting friends and family.
A memorial service was held at the Cochran Funeral Home in Blue Ridge, Ga., at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, with burial following at the Chastain Memorial Park in Blue Ridge.
VERA HALSTEAD

Mrs. Vera D. Halstead, 88, formerly of Cairo, Ga., passed away Jan. 14, 2004, after a lingering illness.
Born in Cairo, Ga., she had been a resident of Tallahassee, Fla., for many years, and attended the Church of God.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Lowell Halstead of Tallahassee and William Earl Halstead, Mooresville, N.C.; four daughters, Martha Ann Ruis and Margie McKenzie, both of Tallahassee, Mary Jean Daniel, Crestview, Fla., and Judy Blow, Abbeville, Ala.; three brothers, Leland, Joe and Robert McKow; a sister, Rosa Lee Pike; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, in Culley’s MeadowWood Timberlane Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Moore and Rev. Robert Powell officiating. iIntermentfollowed at MeadowWood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Halstead was preceded in death by her husband, Lauder Halstead.
Arrangements were entrusted to Culley’s MeadowWood Chapel Timberlane Chapel, Tallahassee, Fla.
EVERETT OVERBECK
Dec. 26, 1923 - Jan. 28, 2004
Mr. Everett M. Overbeck, of Whigham, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004. He was the son of the late Everett M. Overbeck Sr. and the late Dora Schaper, born in San Antonio, Texas on Dec. 26, 1923. He was married
to Barbara Helen Russell on Jan. 23, 1960, who survives.
A memorial service will be held in honor of his memory at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Cairo, Ga., on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at 2 p.m. with Ron Evans officiating.
Mr. Overbeck served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses. He had worked most of his working life as a truck driver, which took him all over the country. He attested to not ever having met a stranger, and with his wit and keen sense of humor always left everyone with a smile.
Everett and Barbara moved to the southwest Georgia area in 1985 and made this their retirement home. In addition to his loving wife he is survived by his daughters, Lanice Hudson, Cairo and Sandra Overbeck, San Antonio; a son, E.M. Overbeck, San Antonio; a sister, Violet Kraft, San Antonio; 11 grandchildren; four nieces and nephews; and a host of friends also survived.
The family will receive friends following the service at 854 Brookwood Dr., S.E., Cairo, the home of Lanice Hudson. Memorials, in honor of his memory, may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses.

Surrounded by family and friends Nellie Maxwell Griffin Thain went home to be with the Lord and the loved ones who preceded her, Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004. Mrs. Thain was born in Barney, Ga., Sept. 27, 1928, to the union of Robert Moultrie Maxwell and Margaret Argene Earnest.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Cheryl, Yenny and Frances Dandron of Columbia; sons, Thomas Keith Griffin of Herndon, Va., Robert Hugh Griffin, Houston, Texas, James Anthony Griffin, Sidney Eugene Griffin and Henry Eugene Griffin Thain, all of Columbia.
Ms. Thain is also survived by her sisters, Thelma Cavalieri, Meigs, Ga., Margaret Holton, Gainesville, Fla., Ann Periloux, New Orleans, La., and Norma Wiggins, Eagle Lake, Fla.; a brother, Gene Maxwell, Havana, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Madge Booth Ponder, Cairo, Ga. She will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Mrs. Bessie Mae Williams, 92, of 920 Bluff Ave., N.W., Cairo, Ga., passed away Jan. 26, 2004, at Grady General Hospital after an extended illness.
Mrs. Williams was born April 22, 1911, in Grady County to the late Shelley and Lena Adams Allbritten. She attended Grady County public schools, was a member of the Greater New Corinth M.B. Church, at which she was a Vocational Bible School teacher, President of the Senior Choir, Directress of the Junior Missionary Department, member of the Pastor’s Aide Club, sang in the choir, was the pianist, a Mother of the church and worked with many other auxiliaries of the church. She loved her church. She attended the Thomasville District Union and the New Grady Missionary Baptist Organization. She organized and was President of a prayer band. Mrs. Williams was a lifetime resident of Grady County and a dedicated homemaker.
Services were held at Greater New Corinth Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. W.R. Jenkins officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Cairo.
Active pallbearers were friends of the family.
Honorary pallbearers included the deacons of the church and the male ushers of Greater New Corinth.
Survivors include her sons, Melvin (Lillian) Everett, Newark, N.J., and Curtis (Fannie) Everett, Thomasville, Ga.; a daughter, Kathelene Everett, California; a sister, Annie Ruth Bradshaw, Cairo; special friends, Willie B. Mrs. Martha Scott Bran, 53, of 340 6th Ave., N.E., Cairo, Ga., passed away March 25, 2004, at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville, Ga., after an extended illness.
Mrs. Bran was born in Grady County, Ga., June 11, 1951, to the late Cleveland and Margaret Scott. She was a lifetime resident of Grady County, was a laborer and was married
to Salvadar Bran.
Services were held at Redeeming Life Fellowship Church, Cairo, on Saturday, April 3, 2004, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Marshal Collins and Bishop Kelvin Hindsman officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Crestview Cemetery.

to Aldrige Franklin Jewell. Mrs. Jewell was a currently residing in Cairo and worked as a nurse.

Mrs. Mitchell was born Oct. 9, 1914, in Brooks County, Ga., to the late James and Laura Collins Mitchell. She was married
to Charles Mitchell, who preceded her in death in 1972. Mrs. Mitchell was a dedicated homemaker and a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church, Cairo.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Freewill Baptist Church, Cairo with the Rev. W.G. Turner and Rev. Wayne Burdeshaw officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo.
