Mr. Tommie Ball, 86, formerly of Cairo, Ga., passed away June 1, 2004 in Moultrie, Ga.
Mr. Ball was a World War II Army veteran. Before retirement, Mr. Ball and his wife ran a restaurant. He loved to cook and read.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 4, 2004, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, Cairo, Ga. with the Rev. Jim Weaver officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo.
Acting as pallbearers were nephews.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Inez Fender Ball, Thomasville, Ga.; daughter, Connie Ball Godwin and husband, Fred, Thomasville; sisters, Corine Haire and husband, Buddy, Pelham, Ga., and Opal Taylor, Moultrie; grandchildren, Melinda Godwin, Tampa, Fla. and Teresa Zabik and husband, Matt, St. Michael, Minn.; and great-grandchildren, Cassidy Godwin-Pinchbeck, Tampa and Joseph Zabik, St. Michael. Mr. Ball was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Lena Webb Ball, children, Richard Lee and Linda Joyce Ball, a sister, Marie Shelton, and brothers, John H., Roy, Carl, Frank and Willie Ball.

MARVIN BARRINEAU
Feb. 14, 1917 - June 8, 2004
Mr. Marvin Cecil Barrineau, 87, passed away at his place of residence in Cairo, Ga., on Tuesday, June 8, 2004.
Mr. Barrineau was born in Grady County, Feb. 14, 1917, to the late Hardy K. and Virgie Bowen Barrineau. He lived his lifetime in the Grady County area. He was retired from Bates and Associates and was a member of Providence Baptist Church, Whigham, Ga.
Visitation will be held for Wednesday evening, June 9, 2004, at Clark Funeral Home from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
Services are scheduled for Thursday, June 10, 2004, at 3 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Douglas Halstead and Rev. Robert Crapps officiating. iIntermentwill follow at Providence Cemetery, Whigham, Ga.
Active pallbearers are Matt Miller, Shawn Faircloth, Stacey Faircloth, Ricky Cooper, Andy Barrineau and David Williams.

Mr. Barrineau was preceded in death by a son, Cecil Barrineau; grandchildren, Timmy Cooper and James Glenn Barwick; a great-grandchild, Tyler Glenn Davis; parents; sisters, Ernestine Ulmer and Rena Barrineau; and brothers, James Barrineau, Elmer Barrineau and Emory Barrineau.

Mrs. Mary Cheney Bryan of Atlanta, Ga., passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2004.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bradford Bryan Sr., her daughter, Sally Bryan Minter and her son, William Bradford Bryan Jr.
Born in Shellman, Ga., on April 25, 1905, she was the life long resident of Georgia, spending the last 46 years in Atlanta where she was a member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. Genealogy was a passion that included memberships in the Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Confederacy.
Surviving are her son, Cheney N. Bryan, Hunt, Texas; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 4, 2004, at 1 o’clock at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church with Dr. Don Harp officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Cairo City Cemetery, Cairo, Ga., on Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 1 p.m.

Mrs. Mary Yvonne Kemp, 49, passed away May 29, 2004, at her place of residence.
Mrs. Kemp was born Dec. 19, 1954, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kemp.

Mr. Thomas M. Mitchell, 18, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Memorial Hospital, Bainbridge.
Thomas was born Jan. 31, 1986, in Grady County, Ga., the son of Mark L. Mitchell and April Dawn Mitchell. He was an auto body technician for Precision Auto Services and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Cairo, Ga.
Services were held Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel, Bainbridge, with the Rev. Wayne Whiddon officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Oak City Cemetery, Bainbridge.

JOSEPH SHIVELY
July 22, 1925 - June 7, 2004
Mr. Joseph H. Shively (Peanut Joe), 78, passed away Monday, June 7, 2004, at Pinewood Nursing Center, Whigham, Ga., following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Shively was born July 22, 1925, in Jonesboro, La., to the late Hardy and Leiki Crowssen Shively. He moved from Sarasota, Fla., to Cairo, Ga., in April 1993. He enlisted in the Navy Feb. 11, 1943, advancing to the rating of aviation ordnanceman second class and served as a gunner on a TBF plane aboard the USS Nehent Bay in the Pacific. He was discharged Jan. 10, 1946. Mr. Shively was self-employed, owned Joe’s Handi Stop (Peanut Joe’s), Fruitville, Fla. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the VFW and American Legion.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southwest Georgia, 808 Gordon Ave., Thomasville, Ga. 31792.

Mr. Charles Edwin Alexander Sr., 66, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2004, at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, Ga.
Mr. Alexander was born in Nashville, Tenn., Oct. 23, 1937, to the late Lowell Dewey and Willie Mamie Pickett Alexander. He was a field coordinator for Cabinet Woodworking Company. Mr. Alexander was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Cairo.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Nichols officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo.

Mr. Preston Butler, 68, passed away July 19, 2004, at Grady General Hospital.
Mr. Butler was born March 29, 1936, in Mitchell County, Ga., to Mrs. Mandy Butler and the late Mr. Jessie Butler. He attended Grady County public schools and served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Butler was a member of the Greater New Corinth M.B. Church.

Mrs. Carolyn Shelton Crawford, 72, passed away Monday, July 26, 2004, at Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville, Ga.
Mrs. Crawford was born June 3, 1932, to the late James William (Riley) and Louise Harte Wheeler Shelton. She was married
to Homer Everett Crawford, who preceded her in death June 24, 1982. Mrs. Crawford was retired from the school nutrition program and a member of Midway Baptist Church, Cairo, Ga.

Mrs. Ellen Lyndal Dixon Maddox, 87, passed away Friday, July 23, 2004, at Crestwood Nursing Home, Valdosta, Ga.
Mrs. Maddox was born July 1, 1917, in Grady County, Ga., to the late David Guy and Lonia Vashti Jordan Dixon. She was married
to O’Neal Maddox, who preceded her in death Aug. 19, 1992. Mrs. Maddox was a dedicated homemaker and a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, Cairo.
