Mr. Aulden James (Chief) Hawthorne, passed away at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, Ga., on Jan. 18, 2005.
Mr. Hawthorne was born in Grady County, Ga., May 25, 1913, to the late Charlie and Katie Lee Vanlandingham Hawthorne, and was a lifetime resident of Grady County. Mr. Hawthorne was employed with the City of Cairo when he was appointed fire chief, a position he held for 42 years. He was a member of the Cairo Masonic Lodge 299 F&AM and received his Master Mason pin for 50 years in 2004, a member of the Cairo Shrine Club and also a member of Eastside Baptist Church. Mr. Hawthorne was known for his love for farming and as long as his health permitted, he farmed and grew vegetables to share with his many, many friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at Eastside Baptist Church, Cairo, with the Rev. Carl Harrell and Dr. Paul Jones officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo.
Active pallbearers included Ronald Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Elwood Allen, Marcus Pearce, Jerry Pearce and Jesse Carter.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Hester Hawthorne, whom he married
Jan. 7, 1933, Cairo; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Freddie Lyle, Cairo; and granddaughters, Meredith Young, Atlanta, Ga., and Melissa Lyle, Cairo. Mr. Hawthorne was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Ed Hawthorne.

CLIFFIE BROWN
Aug. 13, 1911 - March 21, 2005
Mrs. Cliffie Mae Reese Brown, 93, of Cairo, Ga., passed away March 21, 2005, at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Brown was born in Randolph County, Ga., Aug. 13, 1911, to Mr. Step Reese and the late Mrs. Lonnie Jackson Reese. She was married
to Mr. Clifford Brown, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Brown attended Martin Elementary School in Randolph County and was a member of Macedonia M.B. Church, Cairo.
Services were held at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, March 26, 2005, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Flemming officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Crestview Cemetery, Cairo.
Active pallbearers were Deacon C.B. Lewis, Deacon James B. Corey, Deacon Walter Lewis and friends and family of the church.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Priscilla Ann Brown, Camilla, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Minnie Brown, Cairo and Mary Reese, Jacksonville, Fla.; nephew, Curly B. Lewis, Dawson, Ga.; nieces, Lelia Bell Brown and Loretta Brown, both of Morgan, Ga.; devoted friend, Rosie Nell Gilbert, Cairo; Goddaughters, Becky Kitchens, Tifton, Ga. and Julie Strickland, Cairo; eight grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by two sisters, Lelia Fred Lewis and Johnnie Corey and a brother, Sonny Reese.

Mrs. Mildred L. Florence, 76, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away March 21, 2005, at her place of residence.
Mrs. Florence was born March 3, 1929, in Clark County, Indiana to the late Reuben Oliver and Velvie McDougald Killgore. Mrs. Florence moved to Decatur County, Ga., in 1968, moving from Orlando, Fla. She was married
to Amos Ruel Florence, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Florence was a dedicated homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Services were held Saturday, March 26, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Scarborough officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Cool Springs Cemetery.

Mrs. Kathryn B. Jones, 91, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, Ga.
Mrs. Jones was born Nov. 29, 1913, in Blountstown, Fla., to the late Audi W. and Lorene Sullivan Blount. She was married
to Louie Frank Jones, who preceded her in death in 1973. Mrs. Jones was a retired lab assistant at Grady General Hospital and a member of the Capel Baptist Church.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2005, graveside at Capel Cemetery, Cairo with the Rev. Robert Crapps officiating.
Active pallbearers were grandsons.

Mr. Larry Floyd Laster Sr., 59, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville, Ga.
Mr. Laster was born May 25, 1945, in Newnan, Ga., to the late Mr. and Mrs. Willie Floyd Laster. He was a retired deputy sheriff in Orange County, Fla., attended Family Worship Center, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Police, Orlando, Fla., and he had a love of the outdoors and fishing.

Ms. Middleton passed away March 22, 2005, at Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville. Born Oct. 24, 1944, she was the daughter of the later John Jay Hudson and Jewell Cotton Parrish. Ms. Middleton worked for Flowers Shared Service.

Mr. Lamar Rogers, 59, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville, Ga.
Mr. Rogers was born October 30, 1945, in Cairo, Ga., to Grace Pyles Rogers and the late John A. Rogers. He was a lifetime resident of Cairo and worked as a custodian at Southwestern State Hospital, Thomasville.

Mr. Joseph Decab Strickland, 97, passed away in Whigham, Ga., Thursday, March 24, 2005, following an extended illness.
Mr. Strickland was born in Grady County, Ga., June 3, 1907, to the late Joseph Cephas and Lottie Louise Cloud Strickland. He was married
to Lillie Williams Strickland, who preceded him in death in 1979. Mr. Strickland was a farmer and a member of the Church of God in Bainbridge, Ga.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Calvary United Methodist Church, Calvary, Ga., with the Rev. Kenneth West officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Piedmont Cemetery.
