Dr. Aubrey Joseph Altman
Services for Dr. Aubrey Joseph Altman of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 11 at McRae United Methodist Church with interment in Telfair Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. Tommy Mason and Dr. Bob Williams officiated.
Altman, 79, died Sunday, July 10, 2005. A native of Hoboken, Dr. Altman was the son of the late Harvey and Endekl Griffin Altman and was married to Grace Dowling Altman for 59 years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Claudia Altman Smith.
He was a member of McRae United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board and was a Trustee, and was a member of the Lions Club, Eastern Star, Jaycees, and Masonic Lodge # 536. Altman proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the Aircraft Carrier, Randolph, and was a recipient of the prestigious Bronze Star. A Boy Scout Leader, he moved to McRae and began his optometry practice in 1951, following his graduation from South Georgia College and the Southern College of Optometry. He practiced until his retirement in 1999. Professionally, he held membership in both the American Optometric Association and the Georgia Optometric Association.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, David Altman and wife, Yvonne, and grandson, Joseph Altman, all of Helena; sister, Mary Dowling and husband, Vernon of Hazlehurst; brothers, Ellis Altman and wife, Verdie, and Kennon Altman and wife, Katherine, all of Hoboken, and Lamar Altman and wife, Loretta of Loganville. An army of special nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorial contributions may be made to McRae United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 8, McRae, GA 31055.

James Paul Fields Sr.
Services for James Paul Fields Sr. were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 10 in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with interment in the Zion Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Rev. Herman Carter, the Rev. Mike Pollard and the Rev. Doyle Connell officiated.
Fields, 81, died Friday, July 8, 2005. He was the son of the late Rufus Lester and Lola Mae Fulghum Fields and was married to Juvine Fields.
He was a native of Emanuel County and was a member of Helena Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Jimmy (Sandra) Fields of Ellabell; daughters, Fran (Steve) Deal of Wrightsville and Paula (Ronnie) Clark of Savannah; step-son, Mike (Karen) Garrett of Atlanta; sister, Elizabeth Higginbotham of Wake Forest, NC; six grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and three step-granddaughters.
Contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, c/o Patsy House, Rt 1, Box 273B, McRae, GA 31055.

Ruby Simmons Horton
Graveside services for Ruby S. Horton of Madison, Fla., formerly of McRae, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9 at the Springhill Cemetery in Wheeler County.
Horton, 90, died Thursday, July 7, 2005. She was the Horton was the daughter of the late George H. and Mary Slough Simmons and she was the widow of William D. Horton.
A native of Dayton, Ohio, she was a homemaker for most of her life and was a member of the McRae First Baptist Church before moving her membership to the First Baptist Church of Madison, Fla.
Survivors include a son Charles and Mary Fuls of Madison, Fla; granddaughter, Debbie and Jack Sayger of Ridgeland, S.C.; great-grandsons, Jeret Sayger and Calvin Sayger, both of Ridgeland, S.C.; and a brother, George and Helen Simmons, Jr.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1436, Albany, GA 31702.

Mary Frances Walker Noble
Services for Mary Frances Walker Noble of Lumber City were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July, 9 at St. James CME Church of Lumber City, with interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
The Rev. Robert Haywood officiated.
Noble, 77, died Sunday, July 3, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Green and Ella Walker Sr. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Walker and Marvin Walker and a sister, Rosa Lee Walker.
A native of Lumber City, she retired from the Department of Defense after 25 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Sarah (Larry) Conaway of Lumber City, and June Walker of Colorado Springs; son, Russell Walker of Marietta; brother Green (Auguste) Walker Jr. of Atlanta; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Martha McCullough Ryals
Services for Martha McCullough Ryals of Helena were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July, 2 at Greater Missionary Baptist Church with interment in Helena Cemetery.
The Rev. Neal Dixon officiated.
Ryals, 100, died Monday, June, 27, 2005 at McRae Manor Nursing Home. She was the the daughter of the late Abraham and Lucy Stewart McCullough and was the widow of Gabriel Ryals.
Survivors include two nieces, Eunice Phillips of New York City, and Maxine Daniels Thomas of Dunnellon; two nephews, Nathaniel Daniels Jr. of French Lick, Ind., and Dennis Daniels of Dunnellon; 21 great-nieces and 34 great-great-nieces.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

Eleanor Joy Cox Wells
Services for Eleanor Joy Cox Wells of Alamo were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July, 9 at Alamo First Baptist Church with interment in Alamo Cemetery.
Wells, 57, died Wednesday, July, 6 2005. She was married to Jimmy Wells.
She was a member of the Alamo First Baptist Church, American Heart Association, and the Wheeler County Recreation Department Board, and was a retired rural route U.S. Post Office carrier and former Public Librarian.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Emily Wells; son, Jeremy Wells; sister and brother-in-law, Gwen and Steve Jones, all of Alamo; and many nieces and nephews.
Flowers donations may be made to Alamo First Baptist, American Cancer Society and Community Hospice of Vidalia.
Towns Funeral Home of Alamo was in charge of arrangements.

Christopher Allan Coleman
Services for infant Christopher Allan Coleman of Alamo, were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 29 at ‘Towns Chapel of Alamo with interment in the Rosemont Cemetery.
The Rev. Randall Horne officiated.
Coleman, died Sunday, June 26, 2005. He was the son of Virginia Coleman of Alamo and George Dauberman of Helena.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his grandparents, Gail Gillis of North Carolina, and Edward Coleman of Dublin and Annette Dauberman of Helena; and great-grandmother, Mildred Kersey of Alamo.
Towns Funeral Home of Alamo was in charge of arrangements.

Isaac Wilburn Larkey
Services for Isaac Wilburn Larkey of Alamo, formerly of Jacksonville were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 27 in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with interment in the Larkey Cemetery.
The Rev. Donny Brown officiated.
Larkey, 80, died Saturday, June 25, 2005. He was the son of the late James F. and Ethel Eliza Jones Larkey and was married to Jean Larkey. He was preceded in death by a son, Davey Joe Larkey.
A native of Telfair County, he had formerly worked with Armstrong of Macon, was a retired farmer and was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter, Donna Larkey (Curtis) Wells, of Alamo; and grandchildren, Danny Larkey of Jacksonville, Kimberly Larkey of McRae, and Matt Wells of Alamo.

James ‘Jim’ Tyrus Long
Services for James “Jim” Tyrus Long of Milan were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25 in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with interment in the Milan City Cemetery.
Long, 79, died Thursday, June 23, 2005. He was the son of the late William Tompkin and Mary Dallas Maloy Long and was married to Jacqulyn Marchant Long. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Parks Owens, IV.
A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, he was a member of Milan Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and Milan Baptist Church where he attended Men’s Sunday School Class. He retired from Robins Air Force Base where he had worked for 33 years
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Gloria Long Owens of Beaufort, S.C. and James Tyrus Long Jr. of Milan; sister, Gladys Long Jones of McRae; grandchildren, Lori Elliott of Beaufort, S.C., Shelli Mann of Eastman, Brandy Long of Valdosta, and Russ Long of McRae; great-grandchildren, Cole Elliott and Parks Elliott, both of Beaufort S.C., and Molli Mann and Graci Mann, both of Eastman; and several nieces and nephews.
Contributions may be made to a favorite church or charity.
