Mrs. Burma Lee Connell, 82, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2005, in Edison, Ga.
Mrs. Connell was born on December 19, 1922, in Grady County, Ga., to the late William Alvie and Effie Rehberg Lee. She was a bookkeeper and homemaker currently residing in Edison, and was a member of the Edison United Methodist Church.
A service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2005, at the Edison United Methodist Church, followed by a graveside service at 4:30 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, Ga. The Rev. Michael DeFore officiated.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Edison United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 303, Edison, GA 39846.

James Dowdy
September 11, 1934 - May 12, 2005
Mr. James William Dowdy, 70, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2005, at his residence on Old Newton Road, Pelham, Ga.
Mr. Dowdy was born on September 11, 1934, in Dodge County, Ga., to the late Ben Dowdy and the Late Lois Burnum Dowdy. He was a carpenter and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. He was a member of the Springhill Christian Church.
Services were held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2005, at the Springhill Christian Church with Mr. Herman Pope officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Springhill Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joshua Butler, Blake Butler, Jason Jenkins, V. J. Dowdy, David West IV, Bud Willoughby, Bo Yeomans and Ben Washington.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Dowdy.

Mr. Cecil Lee Dozier, 75, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2005, at Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville, Ga.
Mr. Dozier was born on September 19, 1929, in Houston County, Ala., to the late John and Annie Watkins Dozier. He was a retired city of Cairo heavy equipment operator and was currently residing in Meigs, Ga. He was married
to the late Nona Hurst Dozier, and was a member of the Hilltop Bible Baptist Church, Cairo, Ga.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at the Hilltop Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Glen Scoggins and the Rev. Ronald Bass officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo.

Camille Killens
June 7, 1957 - May 6, 2005
Ms. Camille Ann Killens, 47, passed away on May 6, 2005, at Providence Hospital, Detroit, Mich., after an extended illness.
Ms. Killens was born on June 7, 1957, in Detroit to the late Noble and Delores Killens. She was educated in the Detroit public schools and earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism at Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., leading to a career as a research book editor in Detroit.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2005, in the chapel of the Cloud & Son Funeral Home, Cairo, Ga., with the Rev. H. L. Flowers Jr. officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Cairo City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were friends of the family.

Judy Lewis

Mrs. Judy Kay Hopkins Lewis, 56, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2005, at her home in Grady County of cancer.
Mrs. Lewis was born on March 16, 1948, in Thomasville, Ga., to E. D. Hopkins and the late Peggy Godwin Hopkins of Cairo, Ga. She had worked with the Grady County Board of Education and was presently a receptionist with WCTV, Tallahassee, Fla. She was a lifelong resident of Grady County, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cairo and the Mary-Martha Sunday School Class.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2005, at First Baptist Church, Cairo, with Dr. Joe Allen, the Rev. John Paul Hasick and Dr. Ron McCaskill officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wallace Pope, Johnny Hopkins, Sid Pridgen, Barry Pollock, Johnny Tuggle, Keith Harrell, Wilkes Nicholson and Carroll Bryan.

Mr. Joel L. Merritt, 77, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman, Ga.
Mr. Merritt was born on October 11, 1927, in Brooks County, Ga., to the late Joel A. and Lottie Bell Chason Merritt. He was retired, and had been for many years the owner and operator of the Cairo Shoe Shop. He was married
to the late Janey Ferrell Merritt, and was a member of the Cairo Presbyterian Church.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2005, at the Cairo Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Steve Poppell officiating. iIntermentfollowed at the Singletary Cemetery, Cairo, Ga.

Mr. Lonnie D. Royals Jr., 91, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2005, at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, Ga.
Mr. Royals was born on September 3, 1913, in Climax, Ga., to the late Lonnie Divine Royals Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Stevens Royals. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was a farmer and a member of the Pine Park Baptist Church, Cairo, Ga.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at the Pine Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Gordon Cloud officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were the deacons of the Pine Park Church and Mr. James Powell.

Mr. Gilbert T. Stewart, 79, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2005, at the Pinewood Nursing Home, Whigham, Ga.
Mr. Stewart was born on August 11, 1925, in Mitchell County, Ga., to the late Oscar Andrew and Docia Mae Holland Stewart. He had been sanitation superintendent for the city of Cairo, and was a member of the Friendship United Methodist Church, Cairo, Ga.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2005, at the Friendship United Methodist Church with the Rev. Allen Hartsfield and the Rev. Wendell Hollingsworth officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Cairo Cemetery.

Mrs. Margaret Gainous Terrell, 84, passed away on January 22, 2005, in Aberdeen, Washington.
Mrs. Terrell was born on September 7, 1920, in Grady County, Ga., to the late Daniel H. Gainous and Fannie Dollar. She worked as a stenographer, later owning and operating an antique business, and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Beta Sigma Phi. Mrs. Terrell was married
to the late Steve Terrell on November 11, 1951.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2005, at the Springhill United Methodist Church with the Elder Max Childs officiating. iIntermentof her ashes will follow in the Springhill Church Cemetery.
