William 'Bill' Dismer

William Edward "Bill" Dismer departed this life on April 9, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A native of Savannah, Mr. Dismer was born Oct. 24, 1926, the middle child of three sons of Alma and Louis Dismer. Mr. Dismer attended Sacred Heart School and Benedictine Military Academy of Savannah, where he was class salutatorian. Mr. Dismer served in the Navy during World War II as an electronics technician. He graduated from Armstrong Junior College in Savannah and attended the University of Illinois. He went on to receive a Juris Doctor degree from Emory University of Law. He married
the former Beatrice Ann Burke of Atlanta.
In 1975, Mr. Dismer moved his family from Atlanta to St. Simons Island where he practiced law. He was active in local politics and served as a Glynn County Commissioner At-Large from 1989-1992. He was a strong supporter of the Glynn County Republican Party, serving as a delegate to the National Convention held in New Orleans. He was active in the local chapter of the American Legion. He was a part-time instructor in law at Woodrow Wilson Law School and John Marshall Law School in Atlanta and Savannah.
A man of many talents, Mr. Dismer played the clarinet and saxophone in several groups including "The 17" of Atlanta and the Jekyll Island Big Band. He starred in numerous productions of the Island Players including 'Harvey, ' 'Paint Your Wagon, ' 'Annie' and 'The Dining Room.' He formed a local chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America on St. Simons Island.
Mr. Dismer was a former member of several civic and volunteer organizations including Kiwanis Club International, Rotary Club International, and Residents United for Planning and Action (RUPA). He was involved in fund raising efforts for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. In the early years of his practice, Mr. Dismer volunteered legal services for Birthright, International. More recently, Mr. Dismer was often observed walking his dog along Frederica Road and he was involved with the local chapter of Therapy Dogs International with his pet.
Mr. Dismer, a member of St. Williams Catholic Church, is survived by his wife of 41 years, Beatrice Dismer of St. Simons; a son, Blaise Dismer of St. Simons; and four daughters, Joan Childs of Gray, Jeanne Dismer of St. Simons, Terri Murph of Marshallville, and Erika Doster of Augusta. He had 10 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the St. Williams Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the St. Williams Catholic Church Building Fund, the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or the Hospice of the Golden Isles.

The funeral for Jimmy Williams will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Martha Ann Baptist Church in Cochran, with Mark Baker officiating. The body will be placed at the church at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Williams of Brunswick died Sunday at the local hospital.
Surviving are his father, Willie Baker of Patterson, N.J.; one son, Jamal Williams of Cochran; one daughter, Latoya Williams of Cochran; four sisters, Barbara Suber and Cynthia Baker, both of Patterson, Lorraine Walter of Miami, Fla., and Teri of Nigeria, South Africa.
Mr. Williams was a native of Cochran. He had been a resident of Brunswick for several months.

Phillip Henry Dallas, 56, of Woodbine died Feb. 7 in Camden County.
The funeral will be held at noon Thursday at Westlight Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Battle officiating. Burial will follow in Woodbine Cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews of Mr. Dallas.
Honorary pallbearers are the deacons of Westlight Baptist Church.
Surviving are five sisters, Johnnie L. Walker and Rosa Kight, both of Woodbine, Audrie Thomas and Mildred Denson, both of Jacksonville, Fla. and Lillie M. Banks of Daytona Beach, Fla.; three brothers, Bennie Dallas of Woodbine, Robert Dallas and Charles Dallas, both of Trenton, N.J.; and three aunts.
Mr. Dallas was a native of and was schooled in Camden County. He was a member of the Westlight Baptist Church Family.

Agemina Davis Jr. of Brunswick died Tuesday at the local hospital.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael V. Norris officiating. Burial will be in Memory Garden Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Melvin Heggs, Greg Davis, Ernest Heggs, Homer Davis, Darrell Cobb and Roger Lee Heggs Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Zion Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. Monday in the Magnolia Memorial Chapel of Brunswick Funeral Home.
Surviving are his wife, Erilla Jordan Davis of Brunswick; a daughter, Sonja Lashaun Davis of Hackensack, N.J.; two brothers, Roosevelt Davis of Brunswick and Dock Davis of Ludowici; a sister, Altamese Ponder of Louisville; and other relatives.
Mr. Davis was a native of Louisville. He was a retired mobile mechanic for Georgia-Pacific.

Amy Candace Crow, 28, of Kingsland died Friday at Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Kingsland with the Rev. Vernon Dillingham officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.
Surviving are her husband, Jason Crow of Kingsland; her mother, Ruth Dutton Childree of Nashville; her father, James Childree of Thomaston; her maternal grandparents, Jimmy and Wilma Dutton of East Point; her paternal grandparents, Dan and Ruth Childree of Thomaston; an uncle, aunt and cousin.
Mrs. Crow was a native of Thomaston and had lived in Camden County for the past three years. She was a graduate of R.E. Lee High School in Thomaston and a graduate of Valdosta State University, where she received her master's degree in sociology.
She was a teacher at Matthew Gilbert Middle School in Jacksonville and a member of the First Baptist Church of Kingsland, where she also taught Sunday school. She did missionary work for children's homes.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene in Johnson County. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Mary M. Mimbs; eight children, Lisa Jordan of Pooler, Angelia Story of Ellabell, Kim Arnett of Union, Ky., Tommy Mimbs of Walterboro, S.C., Chris Mimbs and Quentin Mimbs, both of Wrightsville, Kelvin Daniel of Clarksdale and Kelley Daniel of Brunswick; his mother, Badie Lee Mimbs of Adrian; a sister, Shirley Mills of Adrian; two brothers, Freeman L. Mimbs Jr. and Bobby Joe Mimbs, both of Dublin; and 20 grandchildren.
Mr. Mimbs was a native of Johnson County. He served in the U.S. Army and was employed by the Sea Island Company. He attended the First Baptist Church in Kingsland.

Randall Lewis McGahee Jr., an infant, of Woodbine died Saturday at the Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla.

Surviving are his parents Randall Lewis McGahee and Shella Koren Joiner, both of Woodbine.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Resurrection Church of Christ with Alexander Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are friends of the family.
Honorary pallbearers are officers of the Church.
The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
Surviving are two sons, Carlton Maurice Douglas of Brunswick and John Blake Jr. of California; two daughters, Cheryl Joiner and Stephanie Goodwill Jackson, both of Brunswick; brother, Richard Douglas of Milwaukee, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Ms. Williams, a native of Jacksonville, was a member of Resurrection Church of Christ.
