Clarence Gaddis

Native of Copper Basin, retired from construction
Clarence William Gaddis, 71, of Cleveland, Tenn., died Dec. 16, 2005, at Bradley Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Gaddis was a native of the Copper Basin area and was the son of the late Windom and Ivy Hughes Gaddis.
He was retired as a laborer in construction.
Survivors include sons Charles Gaddis of Dalton, Ga., Dennis Gaddis of Cohutta, Ga., and Steve Gaddis of Copperhill; daughter Shirley Nordick of Dalton; sisters Frances Newman of Cleveland and Beulah Helton of Mineral Bluff; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Dec. 19, from the Akins of Copperhill chapel with the Rev. Donald Weaver officiating.
Pallbearers included Kenny Newman, Steven Gaddis, Christopher Gaddis, D.J. McDougal, J.D. Elrod and David Gates.
iIntermentfollowed in the Zion Hill Cemetery.
Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill was in charge of the arrangements.

Ronald Garrett

Rock mason and lifelong resident of Union County
Ronald Eugene Garrett, 50, of Blairsville, died Dec. 22, 2005, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Atlanta following an extended illness.
He was born on June 4, 1955, in Murphy, N.C., the son of Owen F. Garrett and Edna J. McDonald.
Garrett was a rock mason and a lifelong resident of Union County.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son Ronald Garrett Jr.
Garrett was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include sisters and brothers-in-law Pat and Kenneth Mayo of Atlanta, Debra and Mike Stephens of Blairsville, and Susie Densmore of Atlanta; brother and sister-in-law Douglas and Kathy Garrett of Atlanta; and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held Dec. 24, from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Leon McDonald officiating.
iIntermentfollowed in the Peachtree Baptist Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers included John Barrett, Dewayne Cannon, Mike Stephens, Kevin Mullins, Steven Mayo, Kenneth Mayo and Jesse Garrett.

Amy Etheridge

Native of Fannin County,
survived by family
Amy L. Dunn Etheridge, 96, of Chatsworth, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005.
She was born and raised in Fannin County.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Clyde Huffman and Roy Etheridge; parents Samuel and Linda Patterson Dunn; son Albert Huffman; son-in-law William Barnes; sisters Etta Tankersley and Mary Williamson; brothers William Dunn, Richard Dunn, Saint Claire Dunn and Thomas Dunn.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Clyde and Kay Huffman and Robert and Lois Huffman, all of Chatsworth; daughters and sons-in-law Roberta and J. Hugh Bartley and Rosell Barnes of Chatsworth, Lois and Frank Laster of Dalton, Elsie and Glenn Mullinax of Tulsa, Okla., Yvonne Parker of Chatsworth, Mary Evelyn and Billy Rampley of Calhoun, Ga., and Brenda and Charles Gibson of Chatsworth; Thirty-four grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 28, in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Souther and the Rev. Frank Laster officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Center Valley Cemetery. Peeples Funeral Home and Crematory of Chatsworth was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Nancy Phillips

Formerly of Copperhill, survived by family
Nancy Earwood Phillips, formerly of Copperhill, died Dec. 19, 2005, in Atlanta.
She was preceded in death by husband Roy Phillips, parents Esta and Frank Earwood, sisters Kathryn Peacock and Frankie Malone, and brothers Jack Earwood and Charles Earwood.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law John F. and Deborah Carringer of Fayetteville, Ga.; grandchildren John V. Carringer, Lou Ann and Joe Cash; three great-grandchildren; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Announcement of a memorial service will be made at a later date.

Claud Kimbrell

Native of Cherokee County, loved fishing
Claud Kimbrell, 65, of Epworth, formely of Murphy, died Dec. 27, 2005, at Fannin Regional Hospital.
Kimbrell was born Sept. 23, 1940, in Cherokee County, N.C., to the late Dave Kimbrell and Norima Jump Kimbrell.
He was of the Baptist faith and he loved fishing.
Survivors include mother Norima Jump Kimbrell of Blairsville, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law Lisa and Roy Lynch of Blairsville, Rose and Chris Payne of Epworth, and June and Jamie Cross of Hayesville, N.C.; son Randall Kimbrell of Turtletown; mother of his children Diane White of Murphy, N.C.; brothers Dan Kimbrell of Bellview, N.C., Ted Kimbrell of Blairsville, Ga., and Boyd Kimbrell of Chatsworth, Ga.; sister Irene Ware of Suit, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Dec. 30, from the Cochran Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Chris Taylor officiating. Music was provided by the Ware Sisters. iIntermentfollowed in the Friendship Cemetery. Pallbearers included Jamie Cross, Chris Payne, Roy Lynch, Leonard Kimbrell, Paul Kimbrell and Ted Junior Kimbrell.
Honorary pallbearers included Terry White and Ronald Ware.
The Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy was in charge of the arrangements.

Ralph Hart

Member of #67 F&AM, retired from U.S. Army
Ralph Walter Hart, 85, of Blue Ridge, died Jan. 3, 2006, in the Fannin Regional Hospital.
Born in Redlevel, Ala., he was the son of the late Bueil Hart and Pearle Dorscy Hart.
He was retired from the United States Army serving in World War II, was one of the first divisions to go to Vietnam (1965) and also served in Japan, France, Okinawa, Panama, Germany, and the United States. Hart was a member of Blue Ridge Lodge #67 F&AM.
He was preceded in death by brother Clint Hart.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years Mamie E. Hart of Blue Ridge; stepson James Spriggs of Warner Robins, Ga.; stepdaughter Carol Sue Forsythe and her husband Fred of Cedartown, Ga.; several brothers and sisters; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Jan. 6, from the Akins of Blue Ridge chapel with the Rev. James Howard Galloway officiating. Music was by Joyce and Rodney Panter.
Pallbearers included Dee Horton, Zack Ratcliff, Mark Chastain, Britt Chastain, Troy Chastain, Robert Chastain and David Anderson.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Raymond Tidman, Landon Chastain, Richard Chastain, Joel Chastain, Paul Anderson, Larry Horton, Michael Chastain, Rex Chastain and Bill Chastain.
iIntermentfollowed in Copper Ridge Memory Garden with Masonic rites by Blue Ridge Lodge #67 F&AM.

Dena Smith
CNA employed by Blue Ridge Health Care
Dena Mae Smith, 84, of Wash Wilson Road, Epworth, died Jan. 5, 2006, in the Grandview Nursing Home in Jasper, Ga.
Smith was born in Copperhill, the daughter of the late Joseph McKinley and Mary Sisson Godfrey.
She was a certified nursing assistant employed by the Blue Ridge Health Care, and was a long time member of the Mobile Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years Iris Riley Smith.
Survivors include sons Gary Smith of Epworth and Jerry Smith of Young Harris, Ga.; daughters Glenda Hansen of Woodstock, Ga., and Sonja Key of McCaysville; brothers Arnold Godfrey of Jonesboro, Ga., Kenneth Godfrey of Copperhill and Tommy Godfrey of Blue Ridge; sister Shirley Bullock of Marietta, Ga.; grandchildren Jamie Hansen, Patrick Smith, Gerome Smith and Joel Smith.
Funeral services were held Jan. 7, from the Mobile Baptist Church with the Rev. Lloyd Deal officiating. Music was provided by the Rev. Matthew McDaniel.
Pallbearers included Patrick Smith, Gerome Smith, Joel Smith, Jamie Hansen, Tim Godfrey and Rick Hyatt. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Key and Kenneth Sutton. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.

Roberta Shirley

Native of Chattanooga, survived by family
Roberta Lynn Shirley, 32, of Epworth, died Dec. 31, 2005, at her home.
Shirley was born in Chattanooga, Tenn. She worked as a cook at The Trailer Restaurant and was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Suck Creek Mountain, Chattanooga.
She was preceded in death by her father Robert Lee Bryant.
Survivors include sons Robbie Shirley and Tristen Shirley, both of Suck Creek Mountain, Tenn.; daughter Cheyenne Shirley of Suck Creek Mountain; mother and stepfather Donna and Carl Holcombe of McCaysville; sisters and brother-in-law Sherry Kries of McCaysville and Angela and Steve Abramas of Fairmount, Ga.; brothers Wally Mull of McCaysville, Ralph Bryant and Terry Bryant, both of Tullahoma, Tenn.; and grandmother Bernice Ash of McCaysville.
Funeral services were held Jan. 6, from the Akins of Blue Ridge chapel with the Rev. Delmar Davenport officiating. Music was by the Hipps Chapel Singers. Pallbearers included Tommy Ash, Dellon Ash, Joe Holcombe, Steve Abrams, Mitchell Powell, Anthony Rhodes, David Foster and Billy Cantrell.
iIntermentfollowed in Lusk cemetery in Suck Creek Mountain.
