Survived by family, resident of Blue Ridge
Carolyn Sue Kincaid, 66, of Heritage Health Care of Blue Ridge died Dec. 13, 2006.
Born in Isabella, she was the daughter of the late Robert Newman and Elvie Panter Gragg. She worked as an E.R. Department receptionist for Fannin Regional Hospital and was a member of O’Zion Baptist Church.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Robert Jr. and Lisa Kincaid of Livingston, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Debra and Jim Dickey of Blue Ridge; brother and sister-in-law Robert and Martha Newman of Copperhill; stepfather Tudd Gragg of Blue Ridge; grandchildren James and Jennifer Dickey, Rebecca and Dennis Carroll, Adam and Sarah Dickey, Bobby Kincaid and Stacy Kincaid; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Dec. 14 from the Akins of Blue Ridge chapel with the Rev. Terry Thrasher officiating.

Clarence Scroggs
World War II veteran, survived by family
Clarence Scroggs, 91, of Morganton, died Dec. 12, 2006, in Blairsville.
Born in Fannin County, he was the son of the late Homer Franklin and Lula Denny Scroggs.
He worked as a welder for the General Motors Corp. Lakewood Plant in Atlanta.
He was a member of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife Tressie Armell Brackett Scroggs.
Survivors include brother Fred Scroggs of Warsaw, Ind.; sister Cora Payne of Blue Ridge and Ruth Ann Owenby of Tucson, Ariz.; special friends and caregivers at Stonehenge I and Regency Hospice; and many nieces, nephews as well as other family and friends.
Funeral services were Dec. 14 from the Akins of Blue Ridge chapel with the Rev. Geri Worley officiating. Music was by Beverly Thompson.
iIntermentfollowed in Concord Church cemetery with military honors by North Georgia Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were Randy Zimmerman, Matt Pickelsimer, Michael Reilly, Kevin Pickelsimer, Mark Scroggs and Rick Daves.
Honorary pallbearers were David Owenby, Mike Owenby, Steve Phillips, Chuck Phillips, John Scroggs, Tim Scroggs, Kenith Pickelsimer, Van Pickelsimer, Michael Bennett, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Contributions in memory may be made to the Gideons International Memorial Bible Program, P.O. Box 1375, Blue Ridge, Ga., 30513.

Eva Abercrombie
Loving wife, mother and grandmother
Eva Lorena Abercrombie, 73, of Suches, died Dec. 12, 2006, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga., following an extended illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Union County, she was the daughter of the late John Berry and Bessie Bowers Harkins and was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church in Suches.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Always putting others before herself, Mrs. Abercrombie had a passion for others as mother, grandmother and special friend to everyone who knew her. She retired from the Burlington-Pinetree Plant in Dahlonega.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 35 years Ray Abercrombie; sister Clara Mae Corn, Mamie Garrett and Mabell Hensley; and brothers Vernon (Pete) and Ernest Harkins.
Survivors include daughters Faye Sterling and Dianne Abercrombie both of Suches; grandchildren Melissa Sterling and Christopher Sterling both of Suches; brother and sisters-in-law Mac and Juanita Harkins, Granelle Harkins and Velma Harkins, all of Blairsville; brother-in-law Corbit Hensley of Gastonia, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews,
Funeral services were Dec. 15 at the Mount Lebanon Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Tanner and the Rev. Clarence Drummond officiating.

Courtney Brooks
U.S. Army veteran, survived by family
Courtney C. Brooks, M.D., 87, of Loganville, Ga., died Dec. 16, 2006.
Born in Covington, Ga., to the late Courtney Clark and Diva Lou Dewberry Braswell Brooks on June 18, 1919, he lived most of his life in Atlanta. Dr. Brooks attended Emory University and graduated from Emory University School of Medicine. While attending medical school, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and upon graduation, was commissioned a first lieutenant and placed on inactive duty. Dr. Brooks practiced medicine and surgery for two years in Cumming, Ga., owned and operated a general hospital in Blue Ridge for 11 years, Toney Valley Medical Clinic in Decatur, Ga., for 10 years and then practiced family medicine in Marietta, Ga., until 1983. He belonged to the Fraternity of Free Masons and the Shrine (Yaarab Temple). Dr. Brooks served a term as president of the Blue Ridge Tri-county Medical Society and was a member of the Medical Association of Georgia.
Dr. Brooks is survived by his wife Elizabeth Davis Stone Brooks; daughter Cherie Teresa Brooks of Atlanta; sons Courtney Clark Brooks Jr. of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Michael Durant Brooks of Seattle, Wash.; and stepdaughters Elizabeth Louise Yevich of Richmond, Va., and Margaret Roberts of Loganville, Ga.
A private family service will be held at a later date.

Douglas Prouse
Loving and caring husband and father
Douglas James “Jim” Prouse III, 62, of Morganton, died Dec. 21, 2006, at his home.
He was born May 18, 1944, in Chatham County, Ga., to the late Douglas James Prouse Jr. and Christine Hopkins Prouse.
He was a loving and caring husband and father, living most of his adult life in Savannah, Ga., and moving here in 2005.
One of his greatest joys has been living the past two years in this very special place and experiencing the wonderful people.
He was preceded in death by his father Douglas James Prouse Jr., and his brother Robert C. Prouse.
Survivors include his wife Susan Prouse of the home; mother Christine Prouse of Savannah; daughter Susan Marie Prouse of Stamford, Conn.; sisters and brothers-in-law Constance Rowan, and Nancy and Chuck Curry all of Savannah, Mary Ann Edwards and Carol Lynn and Ron Sellers, all of Richmond Hill, Ga.; brother David G. Prouse of Pooler, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Dec. 27 from the chapel of Gamble Funeral Home in Savannah with the Rev. Dan Bryant officiating.
iIntermentfollowed in the Greenich section of Bonaventure cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Georgia Mountain Hospice.

Arthur Fults
Enjoyed golf and water skiing, U.S. Navy veteran
Arthur Carl Fults, 93, of Morganton, died Dec. 19, 2006.
Mr. Fults served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was self employed while living in Indiana and then retired to Bradenton, Fla. Mr. Fults enjoyed golf and water skiing.
Survivors include his wife Ivah B. Fults; daughter and son-in-law Mara and Mory Courtney; grandchildren Michelle and Darrett Bell and Sean and Holly Laidig and five great-grandchildren.
Services were Dec. 28 at Blue Ridge United Methodist Church in Blue Ridge.
iIntermentwill be in Walkerton, Ind.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory to the arthritis foundation.
R.T. Patterson Funeral Home in Lilburn, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
Ethel Golden
Survived by family, resident of Copper Basin
Ethel Marie Golden, 83, of the Life Care Center in Athens, Tenn., died Dec. 20, 2006.
Mrs. Golden was a native of Copper Basin and a member of the McGeetown House of Prayer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Martha Ann Jones Dockery; husband Wilburn Lee Golden; and sons Jeff, Melvin and Frankie Golden.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law William and Ora Golden of Ducktown and Weldon Golden of East Ridge, Tenn.; daughters Martha Ann Bearden and Rosa Lee Golden, both of Cisco, Ga., and Tressia Golden of Tennga, Ga.; daughter-in-law Cheryl Golden of Copperhill; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Dec. 23 from the Akins of Copperhill chapel with the Rev. Dr. Tom Jordan officiating. Music was by Ann Prince.
Pallbearers included Jimmy Simonds, Raymond Beardon, Anthony Queen, David Love, Lynn Geisler and Ron Stanford.

Vernon Lance
Army Air Corps veteran, survived by family
Vernon Hugh “Hugo” Lance, 85, of Morganton, died Dec. 23, 2006, at his home following an extended illness.
Born on July 7, 1921, in Union County, he was the son of the late Thomas M. and Mary Louise Byers Lance. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps of World War II.
Mr. Lance was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, June Eileen Lance, and a sister, Mae Lance Martin.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Anthony and Judy Lance of Morganton, sisters Opal Poteet of Marietta, Ga., and Maude DeWeese of Mineral Bluff; brother-in-law J.O. Martin of Conyers, Ga.; six grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Dec. 27, 2006, from the Mountain View Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Hubert Legg officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Mount Zion Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Little, Grady B. Williams, Johnny Glore, Alton Garrett, Lewis DeWeese, Ronnie DeWeese and Steven Carnes.
