William Bright
U.S. Navy veteran, survived by family
William Leonard Bright, Jr., 79, of Epworth, formerly of Jacksonville, Fla., died Dec. 27, 2006, in Canton, Ga.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of the late William L. Sr. and Ada Ely Bright. He retired from Mobil Oil as a machinist. Mr. Bright was of the Baptist Faith and a member and Past Master of Cheektowaga Masonic Lodge #1163 F&AM. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Noel and Roxanne Bright and Leonard and Cindy Bright all of Buffalo; daughters and son-in-law Kathy and William Galloway of Epworth and Mary Bright of Burgertown, Tenn.; brothers Edgar “Tiny” Bright of New York and Clinton “Butch” Bright of Florida; sisters Florence Wade of Machias, N.Y., Charlotte Harbey of Jacksonville, Fla., Marie Stier of Elma, N.Y., Arlene Engelhart of Tampa, Fla., Denise Brumley and Cassie Bright; 12 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Dec. 29 from the chapel of the Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge with the Rev. Brian Barnett officiating. Music was by Debbie Galloway.

Regina Hilton
Loving and giving person devoted to her parents
Regina Lovingood Hilton, 51, of Morganton, died Dec. 28, 2006.
She was born May 18, 1955, in Fannin County to the late Ollie Dickerson and Edna Mae Lovingood Hilton and was a member of the Star Creek Baptist Church. She was a loving and giving person devoted to her parents, nieces, nephews and cared deeply for special needs children.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ollie D. Hilton; brother O.D. Hilton Jr. and sister Ruby Sue Morris.
Survivors include her mother Edna Mae Lovingood Hilton of Morganton; brothers and sisters-in-law Morris and Judy Hilton of Morganton, Carl and Helen Hilton, Ronald and Norma Hilton of Nashville; brother-in-law and wife J.H. and Donna Morris; nieces, nephews and fiancé W.M. Wayland Lovine of Blue Ridge.
Funeral services were Dec. 30 from the Star Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Rush officiating. Music was by the Heavenly Echoes.
iIntermentfollowed in the Hemptown cemetery.
Pallbearers were Terry, Timmy, Eddie and Brandon Hilton, James H. Morris and Richard Carpenter.
Honorary pallbearer was Buell Thomason.

J.M. Wilkins
Survived by family, resident of Suches
J.M. Wilkins, 84, of Suches, died Dec. 30, 2006, at the Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga following a brief illness.
Mr. Wilkins was a native of Union County, Ga. He lived in Detroit, Mich., for 40 years, retiring from General Motors and returning to his native home where he lived the last 30 years. He was the son of the late John M. And Mary Jane Woody Wilkins.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Betty Jones; grandson Ronnie Wilkins; brothers Carl, Fletcher, and L.N. Wilkins; sisters Dora Ingram, Estelle Garrett, Ora Woody, Cora Long, Atrice Woody, Maybelle Gooch, Gladys Wilkins, Mattie Garcia, Sara Long and Julie Seabolt.
Survivors include his wife Lillie Mae “Mickie” Wilkins; sons and daughters-in-law Nathan Wilkins of Washington, Mich., Edward and Karen Wilkins of Almont, Mich., Harvey and Dorothy Wilkins of Clayton Township, Mich., and Ronald and DeAnne Wilkins of Mount Clemens, Mich.; daughters and son-in-law Karen and Riff Skeihk of Warren, Mich., Priscilla Jones of Sautee, Ga., Margaret Graham of Roseville, Mich.; 27 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services were Jan. 4 at the Banister Funeral Home chapel in Dahlongea, Ga., with the Rev. Danny Oliver, the Rev. Floyd Jones, and Ronald Townley officiating.
iIntermentfollowed in the Woody cemetery in Union County.

Ellard Griffin
U.S. Army Infantry and Merchant Marine veteran
Ellard H. Griffin, 82, of Acworth, Ga., died Dec. 29, 2006.
A native of Fannin County, Mr. Griffin lived in Acworth for a long time. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II and served 15 years in the Merchant Marine. Mr. Griffin owned and operated Griffin’s Grocery until he retired and was a member of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his daughter Linda Marie Griffin of Maysville, Ga.; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Dec. 31 in the chapel of Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Wilbur officiating.
Burial was in the J.P. Chastain Memorial Park in Blue Ridge.
Collins Funeral Home in Acworth was in charge of the arrangements.
Larry Ledford
Devoted husband, father and grandfather
Larry B. Ledford, 78, of Gainesville, Ga., died Dec. 27, 2006.
Mr. Ledford was born Oct. 11, 1928, in Hall County, Ga. to the late Ervin P. and Eva Hope Ledford. He retired from Georgia DOT as a senior surveyor. Mr. Ledford served in the U.S. Navy in Korea, was of the Methodist faith, and a member of American Legion and VFW.
He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and loved his cabin in the Heatherwood section of Fannin County. Mr. Ledford was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and animal lover.
He was preceded in death by brothers Ray and Roy Ledford; sisters Bebe Whiting and Marion Chrisner.
Survivors include his wife Callie Ledford of Blue Ridge; sons and daughters-in-law Larry Bruce and Laura Ledford and Barry and April Ledford, all of Gainesville; daughter Angie Ledford of Gainesville; granddaughters Madison, Melody and Kimberly Ledford; nieces; nephews; sisters-in-law Bobbie Ledford and Evangeline Wright; brother-in-law Charles Lowe; and special friends Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Butler of Heatherwood.
A celebration of life was held Dec. 30, 2006, from the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Jerry Johnson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Bonnie Barker
Survived by family, resident of Franklin
Bonnie Derreberry Barker, 97, of Franklin, N.C., formally of Murphy, died Dec. 14, 2006, at her home.
She was born Nov. 18, 1909, in Cherokee County to the late Poley and Betty Curtis Derreberry. Mrs. Barker was a member of Upper Peachtree Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Barker.
Survivors include sons Doyle Barker of Blue Ridge and Paul Barker of Snellville, Ga.; daughter Betty Stiles of Franklin; brothers Carl, Austin, and Hoyle Derreberry, all of Andrews, N.C., and Ward Derreberry of Lawrenceville, Ga.; sisters Marie West of Andrews and Joyce Foster of Advance, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Dec. 16 from the Upper Peachtree Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Raxter and the Rev. Steve West officiating. Music was by Upper Peachtree Baptist Church Choir.
iIntermentfollowed in Peachtree Memorial Baptist cemetery.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Donna Evans
Survived by family, resident of Blue Ridge
Donna Renee Evans, 39, of Blue Ridge died Dec. 19, 2006, at her home.
Born on March 3, 1967, she was the daughter of the late Wayne and Sarah Taylor.
Survivors include daughters Victoria Kirkland and Sarah Kirkland both of Morganton and Tammy Weaver of Atlanta; sons Tommy Taylor and Gary Taylor of Atlanta; and nephews and nieces.
No services are planned at this time.

Armin Farness
U.S. Navy veteran, survived by family
Armin Orris Farness, 72, of Blue Ridge, died Jan. 3, 2007, at his home.
Born in Madison, Wis., he was the son of the late Orris and Erna Dieruff Farness. He retired from Florida Cities Utilities as a maintenance foreman. He was a member of Blue Ridge Church of Christ and a U.S. Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife Loretta P. Farness of Blue Ridge; son and daughter-in-law Donnie and Cindy Gilliam of Blue Ridge; grandchildren Cally Jo Nichols, Trent Miller, and Christian Gilliam, all of Blue Ridge; and great-grandchild Katie Nichols of Blue Ridge; and many other relatives.
Graveside services were Jan. 6 from Chastain Memorial Park with the Rev. Danny Cline and the Rev. Terry Stuart officiating.

Elizabeth Demand
Survived by family, resident of Blue Ridge
Elizabeth Victoria “Betty” Demand, 91, of Blue Ridge died Jan. 1, 2007, at Piedmont Mountain Side Hospital in Jasper, Ga.
Mrs. Demand was born Feb. 28, 1915, in Ansonia, Conn., to the late James and Elvira Davies Ashelford.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law Diane and Bud Evans of Blue Ridge, Nancy Demand of Dania Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Jan. 5 from the Forest Lawn Funeral Home chapel in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
