Mr. William Patrick Cooney Jr. Age 81 of Lakeview Acres Hiawassee passed away on Saturday March 31, 2007 in the Chatuge Regional Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Cooney was born on Sept.6, 1925 in Chatham County, GA., the son of the late William P. Cooney Sr. and the late Mary E. Wilson Cooney. He retired in 1983 from the Kaiser Agriculture Chemical Company as a Train Engineer with over twenty years of service. He was the Head of Disaster Relief of the American Red Cross for Chatham County, A member of the Hiawassee Gun Club, AARP, and also an Exercise Instructor in Savannah area schools. Mr. Cooney was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Surviving Mr. Cooney are his loving wife of fifty nine years, Justine Cooney of Hiawassee, two sons and one daughter in law, James Crest Cooney of Clewiston, FL., Patrick and Harriett Cooney of Mt. Pleasant, SC., two daughters and one son in law, Sharon and Jack Witt of Pmebroke, GA., Mary Phillips of Jesup, GA., one sister and brother in law, Eleanor and Webster Pebler of LaFayette, IN., three grandchildren, Emily Whitson, Justin Phillips and William Cooney, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday April 4, 2007 at 5:00pm from the Immaculate of Mary Catholic Church with Father George Klooster officiating .In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Chatuge Nursing Home of Hiawassee in Mr. Cooney’s memory. Mr. Robert Lee McMillan Sr. age 85 of Kinross Ln. Blairsville, GA. formerly of Daytona Beach, FL. Entered into rest on Thursday July 21, 2005 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. McMillan was born on Nov.1, 1919 in Clarksburg, WV., The son of the late Marcy McMillan and the late Evelyn Montgomery McMillan. He had retired in 1981 from the Taylor Press in Daytona Beach, FL. He was a veteran of the US Army of WWII. Mr. McMillan was a member of the New Smyrna Beach Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Surviving Mr. McMillan are his loving wife of sixty two years, Jackie Bishop McMillan of Blairsville, one son and daughter in law, Robert and Judy McMillan of Blairsville, one sister and brother in law, Betty and Tom Clark of Bridgeport, WV., one brother, William McMillan of N. Ridgeville, OH., One granddaughter, Kimberly M. and John Zijl of Lake Mary, FL., Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Little Nicholas Tyler Joseph Long age 6 months old went to be with Jesus on Thursday July 21, 2005 from his home following a sudden illness. Nicholas was born on Jan.27, 2005 in Brevard, NC., The son of Brian and Jessica Murdock Long. He was preceded in death by his great grandparents, D.L. Long, George Moorehead, Patricia Long and Shirley Ward.
Surviving Nicholas are his father and mother, Brian and Jessica Long of Blue Ridge, Grandparents, Billy Joe Long of Morganton, Sheila Long of Blue Ridge, Randy Clore of Blue Ridge, Elizabeth Hall of Brevard, NC., Great grandparents, Pauline Long of Lexington, KY., Ronald Hall of Summerville, GA., great great grandmother, Lela Ward of Summerville, Aunt, Amanda Hall of Blue Ridge, Andrew and Shane Long of Blue Ridge.

Mr. Edgar Lee Duckworth age 52 of Fairview Trail Blairsville passed away on Sunday July 24, 2005 in the St. Josephs Hospital in Atlanta following a brief illness. Mr. Duckworth was born on Oct.9, 1952 in Union County, The son of the late Ralph Duckworth and the late Dimple Jones Duckworth. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. He was preceded in death by two sons, Eddie Lee Duckworth and David Michael Thomas. Mr. Duckworth was of the Baptist Faith.
Surviving Mr. Duckworth are his loving wife of thirty two years, Faye Thomas Duckworth of Blairsville, two sisters, Vessie Caraballo and Kathy Burrell both of Cartersville, GA., Five brothers, Roy Duckworth of FL., Tommy Duckworth, Robert Duckworth, Gordon Duckworth and Jerry Duckworth all of Blairsville, Nephew, Tommy Duckworth of Blairsville, Many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 27, 2005 at 4:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating. Special music will be presented by the Traveling Pilgrims. Officer Todd Helcher age 34 of Clarkesville, GA formerly of Blairsville passed away on Monday July 25, 2005 in the N.E. GA. Medical Center following injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Mr. Helcher was born on Nov.30, 1970 in Flint, Mi., The son of Patricia Burk Helcher and the late Karl Ray Helcher. At the time of his death Todd was employed with the Braselton Police Department where he held the position of sergent. He had also been employed with the Union, Towns and Habersham Counties Sheriffs Departments. Mr. Helcher attended New Union Baptist Church.
Surviving Officer Helcher are his loving wife of seven years, Amy Norton Helcher of Clarkesville, three children, Holden, Logan and Haleigh Helcher all of Clarkesville, Parents, Patricia and Tom Lindzon of Port Orange, FL., Mother in law, Betty Jones of Blairsville, Brother in law, Marty and Jenny Rhodes of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday July 29, 2005 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Harrison Bradley and Rev. Mike Totherow officiating. Serving as pallbearers are his fellow officers, Chief Terry Esco, Major Junior Garcia, Lt. David Walker, Sgt. Mark Abruzzino, Tawnya McKenzie, Chris Richards, Aaron Hood, Rob Holt, Dolly Starnes, Scott Rogers and Allison Tiller. Military honors were presented by the US Navy. The releasing of white doves concluded the service.

Mr. Kenneth Stanley Grahl age 43 of Adams St. Andrews, NC. passed away on Tuesday Feb.7, 2006 in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta following an extended illness. Mr. Grahl was born on Nov.25, 1962 in Shelby, NC., The son of Stanley Grahl and Wilsie(Billie) Frazier Grahl.
Surviving Mr. Grahl are his loving wife of thirteen years, Karen Debty Grahl of Andrews, NC., three sons, Kennen Grahl, Rodney Debty and Randy Guffie all of Andrews, mother, Billie Guffie of Franklin, NC., grandmother, Dorothy Frazier of Franklin, four sisters, Kathy Moose of Hayesville, Kim Grahl of PA., Karen Jackson of Baltimore, MD., Kristy Brown of Franklin, twenty one nieces and nephews, many cousins and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mrs. Lucy Mae Carroll age 75 of Carroll Rd. Blairsville passed away on Wednesday Feb.8, 2006 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Carroll was born on July 23, 1930 in Hayesville, NC., The daughter of the late Dan Smith and the late Maudie Stephens Smith. She was preceded in death by two infant children, a brother, Wayne Smith and by her husband, Earl Carroll .Mrs. Carroll was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mrs. Carroll are eleven children, Linda and Archie Patterson, Ralph and Brenda Carroll, Faye and Ervin Patterson, David and Diane Carroll all of Blairsville, Kathy and Donnie Queen of Alpharetta, J. R. Carroll, Cindy and Tommy Queen, Clyde and Donna Carroll, Rachel and Steve Woodin all of Blairsville, Dale and Jim Pressley of Marble, NC., one sister, Lois Ross of Mineral Bluff, GA., seventeen Grandchildren, two Great-Grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. Daniel Harrison Woody age 52 of Tritt Rd. Suches passed away on Wednesday Feb.8, 2006 in the North East Ga. Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Woody was born on Feb.22, 1953 in Union County, The son of the late Nettie Sisum Woody. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. He was preceded in death by a sister, Janie Dyer and by two brothers, Bill Woody and Darrell Woody.
Surviving Mr. Woody are his loving wife of thirty two years, Kathy Trammell Woody of Suches, one daughter and son in law, Candi and Tracy Turner of Suches, one son, Randy Woody of Suches, two brothers and sister in laws, Leora and Joan Woody of Suches, Henry and Lenora Woody of Clermont, one grandchild, April Turner, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mrs. Goldstein was born on Aug.6, 1943 in Bath Maine, The daughter of the late Ralph Milliken and the late Effie Fosher Milliken. She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Milliken in 2004.Mrs.Goldstein was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church.

Mrs. Dorothy Mae Hendrix age 75 of Morning View Place Blue Ridge, GA. formerly of Smyrna, GA. passed away on Saturday July 22, 2006 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Hendrix was born on May 3, 1931 in Atlanta, GA., The daughter of the late Wynfred Armstrong and the late Mary Beason Strong. She retired from the Cobb County School System in 1991 as a Food Technician with over twenty years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Harold Hendrix in 1996, and by a son, David C. Hendrix in 1991.Mrs.Hendrix was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mrs. Hendrix are one daughter and son in law, Teresa and Ken Shipp of Smyrna, one son and daughter in law, Richard and Dorothy Hendrix of Ellijay, GA., four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mrs. Henrietta Cross age 80 of Blueberry Lane Blairsville passed away on Monday July 24, 2006 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Cross was born on June 10, 1926 in the Netherlands, The daughter of the late John Veenstra and the late Martha Zinksgraven Veenstra. Mrs. Cross was a loving wife and mother. She was an avid gardener which she enjoyed in her past time. Mrs. Cross was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Cross are her loving husband of forty one years, Norman H. Cross of Blairsville, one son and daughter in law, Norman J. and Simone Cross of Rudford, MI., one daughter, Kimberly Cross of Blairsville, two nieces, Bonnie Bunker and Sherry Peal, one nephew, Freddie Britt, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday July 25, 2006 at 2:00pm from the Union Memory Gardens cemetery with Elder Stout officiating. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11-2:00pm.

Mrs. Beatrice Lavina Bates age 94 of Hummingbird Lane Hiawassee, formerly of Stonehenge Blairsville passed away on Tuesday July 25, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Bates was born on Oct.9, 1911 in Milford, OH., The son of the late Howard Faul and the late Alvina Becker Faul. She was the first woman Deputy Sheriff of the Broward County Sheriff’s Department in the 1950’s.She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Bates in 1981.Mrs.Bates was of the Protestant faith.
Surviving Mrs. Bates are one son and daughter in law, William (Bill) H. and Elizabeth Bates of Hiawassee, GA, three grandchildren, Bill, Terry and Todd Bates, three great-grandchildren, Eric, Shannon and Courtney Bates, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mrs. Pamela Carol Clark age 56 of Wild Wood Rd. Blairsville, formerly of Boynton, FL. passed away on Wednesday July 19, 2006 at her home. Mrs. Clark was born on July 19, 1950 in Bergen County, NJ., The daughter of the late John Howard Holly and the late Helen McMahon Holly. She had retired from the Bethesda Memorial Hospital in 2001 as a X Ray Technician with over twenty three years of service. Mrs. Clark was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Surviving Mrs. Clark are one son, Daniel Clark of Boynton, FL., one brother, Terry Holly of Del Ray Beach, FL., one grandchild, Madison, many other relatives and friends also survive.
