Ruth Palmer
Mrs. Ruth Eleanor Palmer age 86 of Jones Creek Rd. Blairsville, formerly of Port Ritchie, FL., passed away on Sunday Feb. 18, 2007 in the Murphy Medical Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Palmer was born on Dec. 31, 1920 in Brockton, MA., the daughter of the late Clarence Garnett and the late Agnus Inquist Garnett. She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Palmer in 2001, one son, William Palmer Jr., A sister, Maraim Day, three brothers, Earl, Clarence Jr. and Ronald Garnett. Mrs. Palmer was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mrs. Palmer are two sons and one daughter in law, Phillip and Ann Palmer of Sun City, AZ., Marshall Palmer of Abbington, MA., one brother, Neil Garnett of Statesville, NC., one sister, Faith Woods of Plymouth, MA., nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in Mrs. Palmer’s memory.

THEODORE DAVID DIAZ

Theodore "Ted" Diaz, 54, died suddenly at home on January 12, 2007. Ted was an avid gardener, and created an oasis of flowers at his home. He also loved to cook, and served many gourmet meals to friends, as well as professionally, as a caterer. He won several awards for his cooking. Ted was well known for his gifts of cheesecakes and beautiful bouquets of flowers. He was also admired by all who knew him for his incredible courage in face of tremendous adversity. A paraplegic, Ted was passionate about helping children with disabilities. When he lived in California he worked as a coach with these children, and took them to the special Olympics. He was responsible for bringing handicapped games to Union County in 1995.
Ted grew up in New York, lived for a number of years in Berkeley and Oakland, California, and moved to Blairsville almost 25 years ago. He is preceded in death by his mother, Celia Diaz. He leaves behind loved ones Reggie Lenoir and Sheila Wofsy of Suches, and Linda Bryant and Wendy Belkin of Decatur; sister Ceil Diaz of New Jersey; and beloved companion Shorty.
Well known for his generosity, it was Ted’s desire that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to SAFE, the local shelter for abused women and their children, PO Box ?, Blairsville, GA; Heifer International, PO Box 1692, Merrifield, VA 22116-1692, or the Humane Society’s Mountain Shelter, PO Box 1252, Blairsville, GA 30514.

MICHAEL 'SKIP' WAYNE NELSON
Mr. Michael Wayne Nelson age 61 of Blairsville formerly of Atlanta passed away on Saturday Jan. 13, 2007 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Nelson was born on May 3, 1945 in Williston, ND., The son of Verna Grimstvedt Nelson and the late Merle Wayne Nelson. Michael was known to his friends as "Skip". He had lived in North Dakota, Minnesota, Sweden, Boston and Atlanta. During his trek, he received his BFA in Direction of Music Theater (after, as he says, " Majoring in Dropping Out") and also a FilMag (equivalent to PhD without thesis) while in Sweden. After twenty eight years of theater and more than one hundred productions, he has more than twenty publications "nuf to qualify me".. Mr. Nelson was of the Presbyterian faith.
Surviving Mr. Nelson are his mother, Verna Nelson of Blairsville, cousin, Glenyce Bean of St. Paul, MN., several other cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. Guy Edward Reid age 84 of Blairsville formerly of Tucker, GA., passed way on Sunday Jan. 14, 2007 in the Clay County Care Center following an extended illness. Mr. Reid was born on July 6, 1922 in Oglethorpe County, GA., the son of the late Lester Reid and the late Sophie Mann Reid. He was a veteran of the US Army and had owned and operated Reid Repair Company in Tucker, GA. For over thirty five years. He was preceded in death by a son, Ken Reid in 2000 and by his first wife, Florence Sosebee Reid in 1995.He was a member of the VFW and the DAV. Mr. Reid was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr. Reid are one son and two daughter in laws, Ray and Debbie Reid of Monroe, GA., Shirley Reid of Snellville, GA., three grandchildren, Justin, Josh and Phoebe, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. Frederick John Wanamaker age 77 of Blairsville, GA. passed away on January 19, 2007.
Survivors include his wife, Linda of Blairsville, son and daughter in law, Kurt and Kimberly Wanamaker, daughter and son in law, Kristie and Gary Firestone, daughter, Jannette Villarreal, and also three grandchildren. He leaves behind many kind and caring golfing friends at Butternut Creek Golf Course.

PATRICIA ANN PLOTT
Mrs. Patricia Ann Plott age 56 of Meadow Lane Young Harris passed away on Saturday Feb. 10, 2007 at the home of her son following an extended illness. Mrs. Plott was born on Oct. 3, 1950 in Clay County, NC., the daughter of Lawrence Stroud and the late Mamie Lands Stroud. She was a lifelong resident of Towns and Clay Counties. Before her sickness she was a CNA and was a wonderful care giver to the elderly for many years. She was a loving mother and friend to all who knew her. Mrs. Plott was a member of the Shiloh Baptist church.
Surviving Mrs. Plott are one son, Jeffery Plott of Young Harris, father, Lawrence Stroud of Hayesville, two step children, Jason Woody and Phillip Haines both of young Harris, two brothers and sister in laws, Loyd and JoAnn Lands of Hayesville, Johnny and Amanda Stroud of Young Harris, one sister and brother in law, Betty and Lowell Shook of Young Harris, two grandchildren, Presley and Adam Plott, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday Feb.13, 2007 at 11:00am from the Shiloh Baptist church with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers, Rev. Clark Moss, Rev. Bill Dyer and Rev. Kyle Cody officiating. Special music will be presented by the Cody Family, Michelle, Adam and Presley Plott, Jeanette Vest, Grapell Thompson, Tammy Miller and L. D. and Irene Buchanan. Mr. Gordon Alfred (better known as Pete) Freeman age 70 of Daylilly Drive Marble, NC. passed away on Wednesday Feb. 14, 2007 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Freeman was born on Aug. 26, 1936 in Norwich, CT., the son of the late Fredrick Alfred Freeman and the late Goldie Mumblow Freeman. He was a veteran of the US Army. He had worked with the Kennedy Space Center for several years. Pete was a member of the Space Coast Street Rods and also the Cars of Brevard. He and his wife loved motorcycles and had traveled all over the country. They also enjoyed collecting and rebuilding old classic cars. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gwen Freeman, two infant sons, Peter and John Freeman, son, Peter Alfred Freeman. Mr. Freeman was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving Mr. Freeman are his loving wife of forty seven years, Alita Marie Haran Freeman of Marble, son and daughter in law, John and Mila Freeman of Port St. John, FL., one sister and brother in law, Janet and Dick Bennett of Ellington, CT., two grandchildren, Stephanie and Justin Freeman, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. John Gelpi age 80 of Joal Drive Blairsville passed away on Thursday Feb. 15, 2007 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Gelpi was born on April 27, 1926 in New York, NY., the son of the late John Gelpi and the late Petra Dabulai Gelpi. He retired from the State of Florida in 1986 where he served as a Maintenance Engineer for several years. Mr. Gelpi was a member of the Grace Community Presbyterian church.
Surviving Mr. Gelpi are his loving wife of thirty six years, Elnor McMue Gepli of Blairsville, four daughters and two son in laws, Janet Gelpi of CO., Mary Craig of New Port News, VA., Linda and Donald Smith of Vero Beach, FL., Lynette and Richard Lalka of Huntington, MD., one son and daughter in law, John and Carla Davis of S. Fork, PA., eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday Feb.21, 2007 at 11:00am from the funeral home chapel with Dr. John Grauley officiating. RAY HARRIS YARRINGTON
Ray Harris Yarrington age 71 of Blairsville, GA. Died February 15, 2007 at the Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA.He was born on Feb.24, 1935 in Richmond, VA., where he grew up and married
Ethel in 1953.Ray and his wife moved to Vero Beach, FL. in 1956, where they raised their four daughters. In 1993 they retired to Blairsville in the Mountains of North Georgia where they enjoyed summer and holiday visits with their daughters families, including six grandchildren.
Surviving are wife, Ethel of Blairsville, daughter, Margaret Yarrington of Blairsville, daughter and son in law, Mary Lou and Mark Odum of Roral Palm Beach, FL., daughter and son in law, Laura and Donald Plante of Peachtree City, GA., daughter, Linda Yarrington of Fort Mill, SC., brother, Britt Yarrington of Richmond, VA., and six grandchildren, Emily and Andrew Odum, Alex and Amanda Cole and Stephen and Daniel Plante.
Funeral services will be held on Monday Feb.19, 2007 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel. Ray was cremated following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Blairsville Humane Society in Mr. Yarrington’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday Feb.18, 2007 from 6-8pm.

LINDA PICKELSIMER ALLEN
Mrs. Linda Pickelsimer Allen age 58 of Old Shope Farm Rd. Blairsville passed away on Wednesday Feb. 21, 2007 from injuries received in a house fire. Mrs. Allen was born on Jan.17, 1949 in Union County, the daughter of the late Howard Pickelsimer and the late Wilma Shope Pickelsimer. She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. She and her husband owned and operated, A & D Garbage Service for the late several years. Linda was a loving wife and a friend to all who knew her, she never met a stranger. One of Linda’s favorite past time was fishing, which she was rather good at. Mrs. Allen was a member of Faith Baptist church.
Surviving Mrs. Allen are her loving husband of forty two years, Lloyd Allen of Blairsville, two aunts, Eva Shope Bowers of Blairsville, Ina Belle Voyles of Blairsville, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday Feb.25, 2007 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ric Hurd and Rev. Bryan Mason officiating. Special music will be presented by The Kelly Trio. VINCENT JAMES BEALE

Mr. Vincent J. Beale age 84 of Blairsville, GA. died on Monday Feb. 19, 2007. Vincent was born on March 29, 1922 in Detroit, MI. He was a resident of Blairsville for the past twenty six years. He graduated from Detroit Catholic High School, he then attended Wayne State University briefly before enlisting in the US Air Force where he served three years with the 8th Air Force in England.. He was a lead Bombadier with 23 missions as a first LT. Vincent was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church.Upon returning to the States he joined the City of Detroit Fire Dept., serving 23 years.He retired as a Captain in 1978 and moved to Blairsville with his wife Gwenn.
Survivors include his wife Gwenn, three daughters Judith Chabala and husband Barry of Canton, MI. Nancy Beale Grisel and husband Christopher of Cedar City, UT and Cynthia O’Brien and husband Daniel of Belleville, MI. two step children Kay Andersonof Jupiter, FL and Christian Anderson and wife Susan of Palm Beach Gardens, FL.Seven Grandchildren, Three great-grandchildren and a Brother in law Gordon Fuller and wife Patricia and their five sons, many nieces, nephews and friends also survive.Mr. Beale was preceded in death by brothers Robert, Albert, John(Jackie) and a sister Dorothy.
Funeral Services for Mr. Beale will be held at 11am Saturday February 24, 2007 from thE St. Fabian Catholic Church in Farmington Hills, MI. iIntermentwill follow in the Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery. BRUCE RAYMOND TUTHILL

Mr. Bruce Raymond Tuthill age 81 of Anchorage Dr. Blairsville passed away on Monday Feb. 26, 2007 in the Kennestone Hospital in Marietta following an extended illness. Mr. Tuthill was born on Jan.2, 1926 in Mattituck, NY., the son of the late Raymond Elisha Tuthill and the late Ann Luce Tuthill. He retired from Grumman Aircraft Company in 1986 with over twenty years of service. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines of WWII. While living in New York, he was a Boy Scout Leader, a member of the Volunteer Fire Dept. and also was a Deacon of his church. He loved the water and loved boating, and at one time he was a Boat Master. Bruce loved helping others any way that he could. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria and by a brother Austin Tuthill. Mr. Tuthill was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Tuthill are his loving wife, Joan Tuthill of Blairsville, one son, Rick Spector of Land of Lakes, FL., mother in law, K. Muriel Jefferson of Blairsville, brother and sister in law, Jeff and Pam Jefferson of Hiawassee, close friends, The Nine Family of Florida, two great friends and prayer warriors, Jack Richards of TX., and John Nicely of Clearwater, FL., several cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday March 2, 2007 at 2:00pm from the Antioch Baptist church with the Rev. George Cline and Rev. Jerry Helton officiating. Special music will be presented by Ted and Joy Noele. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Doug Centin, Bob Hutchinson, Carl Buser, Bill Turnage, Brian Brewer and Bobby Warren. . iIntermentwill follow in the church cemetery with the North Georgia Honor Guard conducting military honors.
