Ronald Eugene Garrett
Mr. Ronald Eugene Garrett age 50 of Blairsville, passed away on Thursday Dec. 22, 2005 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Atlanta, following an extended illness. Mr. Garrett was born on June 4, 1955, in Murphy NC. The son of Owen F. Garrett and Edna J. McDonald. He was a rock mason and a life long resident of Union County. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Ronald Garrett, Jr. Mr. Garrett was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr. Garrett are three sisters Pat and husband Kenneth Mayo of Atlanta, Debra and husband Mike Stephens of Blairsville, Susie Densmore of Atlanta. One brother Douglas and wife Kathy Garrett of Atlanta. Many other relatives also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday Dec. 24, 2005 at 11:00 am from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Leon McDonald officiating . Visitation at funeral home will be held on Friday 23, 2005 from 6 to 9 pm. iIntermentwill follow in the Peachtree Baptist Memorial. Cemetery. John (Jack) Joseph Byrnes
US Air Force
John J. "Jack" Byrnes, age 71, of J. V. Ledford Road, Young Harris, GA, went home to his Lord on July 23, 2007. He passed away peacefully in his home after a long illness.
Mr. Byrnes was born in Jamaica, NY, on September 22, 1935 to Henry Patrick and Cecilia Loretta (Gordon) Byrnes. He moved to the Young Harris area in 1999 after residing in many places during his career.
Mr. Byrnes was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He then began his career with the FAA engaged in air traffic control. He volunteered for tours in Vietnam, Thailand and Iran, helping those countries to upgrade their air traffic control services. He more recently worked as FAA liason to the Joint Special Operations Command, helping to coordinate special forces missions worldwide. He retired after more than forty years of Federal service.
Mr. Byrnes was preceeded in death by son Todd, age 22, brother Patrick and sister Arline. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Janet "Jan, " son and daughter-in-law Timothy and Carmen O'Byrne and grandchildren Brittany and Ethan O'Byrne of City Island NY, son and daughter-in-law Jason and Christina Byrnes of Newnan, GA, and sister (in-law) Joan DeCamp of Daytona Beach, FL.
Funeral services were held on Friday July 27, 2007 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with Chaplin Bob Woodstock officiating.Music was presented by Joshua Craig performing with Bagpipes.iIntermentfollowed in the Laural Hills cemetery with the North Ga.Honor Guard conducting military honors.

LINNIE LEONA KILLIAN
Mrs. Linnie Leona Killian age 76 of Honeysuckle Ln. Blairsville went home to be with Jesus on Friday July 27, 2007 from an extended illness. Leona was born on March 12, 1931 to the late Henry Warren and the late Katherine Sparks Warren. She was also preceded in death by her wonderful husband John William (Bill) Killian of forty five years and one infant son, Joey Killian. She built her life around her family and church. She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church and was very active in directing and singing in the choir.
Surviving Mrs. Killian are her sons and daughters in laws, John Raymond and Donna Kay Killian, Royce Lee and Barbara Jean Killian all of Blairsville, one daughter and son in law, Mary Helen and Zane Richard Marsh of Oakwood, GA., two living sisters, Ana Lee Rogers of Fannin County, Odith Ballew of the Union County Nursing Home, six grandchildren, five step grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, 10 great step grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday July 29, 2007 at 2:30pm from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny Beavers and Rev. Chad Underwood officiating. Special music will be presented by the Kelley Trio. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Joey Marsh, Corey Marsh, Darren Hughes, Blake Melton, J. E. W. HORACE SMITH
US Marines WWII
Mr. W. Horace Smith age 79 of 12 Point Rd. Blairsville formerly of Rootsville, GA., passed away on Saturday July 28, 2007 at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Smith was born on Oct. 9, 1927 in Bibb County, AL., the son of the late Hugh Smith and the late Nora Levens Smith. He was a retired Policeman and had served with the City of Denver for over eighteen years. He was a veteran of the US Marines of WWII. One of his favorite hobbies was his garden and also loved to travel. Horace never met a stranger and was a friend to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by a son, Martin Smith in 1995.Mr.Smith was a member of the Providence United Methodist Church.
Surviving Mr. Smith are his loving wife of thirty nine years, Barbara Allen Smith of Blairsville, two daughters and son in laws, Catherine and Gil Slegl of Barnesville, GA., Monica and Louis Brindisi of Grand Junction, CO., one son and daughter in law, Erik and Amy Smith of Aurora, CO., one brother and sister in law, Hugh and Ramona Smith of Albany, GA., eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday August 1, 2007 at 10:00am from the Providence United Methodist cemetery with the Rev. Charles Gibson officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Providence U. M. C. cemetery fund in Mr. Smith’s memory.

ALTHEA JANE GILBERT
Mrs. Althea Jane McGaha Gilbert, age 81, of Smyrna Rd., Young Harris, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Gilbert was born on July 21, 1926 in Hayesville, NC., the daughter of the late Jesse McGaha and the late Nellie Meadows McGaha. She was a lifelong resident of Union County. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebekah Gilbert in 1946, two sisters, Eva Teems and Minnie Shook, three brothers, John, Fred and Earl McGaha. Mrs. Gilbert was a member of Pine Log Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Gilbert are her loving husband of sixty- three years, Carl Gilbert of Young Harris, four sons and two daughter in laws, Cecil and Christine Gilbert of Blairsville, Bill Gilbert of Blairsville, Eddie Gilbert of Blairsville, Steve and Jennifer Gilbert of Blairsville, one brother and sister in law, Clyde and Sadie McGaha of Young Harris; three grandchildren, Jim Gilbert, Amanda Gilbert Stroud and Anita Gilbert, one great-grandchild, Rodney Stroud, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 30, 2007 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dexter Dockery and Rev. Jerry Rice officiating. Mrs. Marion Louise (Granny) Evans age 70 of Triple R Garage Circle Blairsville passed away on Thursday Dec. 22, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Evans was born on Aug. 7, 1935 in Ann Arbor, MI., The daughter of the late Stuart Holmes and the late Margarett Maples Evans. Mrs. Evans owned and operated Granny’s consignment shop in Blairsville for several years. Mrs. Evans was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mrs. Evans are one son, David (Bubba) Evans, three daughters and two son in laws, Misty Evans, Penny (Hunt) and David Roane, Peggy and Pete DeJoseph all of Blairsville, one brother and sister in law, Kenneth and Cathy Holmes of Waco, TX., two sisters and one brother in law, Kay and John Adamak of New Mexico, Gail Holmes of New Mexico, other family members include, Brandy Nicholson, George Schmeltz and Holly Albietz, eleven Grandchildren, Sheba, Cheyene and Dakota Herr, Billy and his wife Chasidy Schmeltz, Caleb and Dallas Mitchell, Kale and Terakah Evans, Morgan and Courtney Nicholson and Chance Schmeltz, many other relatives and friends also survive.

WALTER WALLACE ISMOND
US Army
Mr. Walter Wallace Ismond age 82 of Wesley Mountain Drive Blairsville passed away on Monday Dec. 26, 2005 at his home following a brief illness. He was born on Sept. 3, 1923 in Cadillac, MI., The son of the late Wallace Ismond and the Minnie Anderson Ismond. He graduated from Houghton Lake High School. He worked at Fords in Ypsilanti, MI., prior to joining the Navy on Jan.12, 1943.He served in the Asiatic Pacific and was discharged on Jan.1945.Walter worked at several different jobs, ending up in Ann Arbor, where he joined the Army on Dec. 2, 1947.Most of his 20 plus Army career was spent in Japan, Germany, Austria and the United States as a Master Sergeant Specialist in Personnel Accounting. He retired from the Army in 1964.After his retirement, He worked for the USDA and a trailer factory in Plainville, MI. He moved to Murphy, NC. in 1985.Walter was active in the Hiawassee Dam Fire Dept. and was a member of several Square dancing clubs. He moved to Branan Lodge in Sept. 2003.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Morrison D., and sisters, Nellie June Kuns and Helen LOUISE Kinsey. He is survived by his sister and brother in law, Leona and James Turner of Blairsville, GA., and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday Jan.6, 2006 at 11:00 am from Branan Lodge. iIntermentwill follow in the Fort Custer National cemetery in Battle Creek, MI. The family will meet with friends following the services. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Branan Lodge Celebration of Services in Walter’s memory.

Mr. Ronnie Jones age 50 of W. Anderson Rd. Blairsville passed away on Wednesday Dec. 28, 2005 following a brief illness. Mr. Jones was born on May 12, 1955 in Towns County, The son of Ollie King Jones and the late I.V. Jones. He was a lifelong resident of Union County. Ronnie’s favorite hobby was pitching horse shoes. He loved his cat named Rosie which had owned for several years. Mr. Jones was a member of Victory Baptist Church and had attended Fairview Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Jones are his mother, Ollie King Jones of Blairsville, Sister and brother in law, Diane and Sam Robinson of Gainesville, GA., Nephew, Christopher Cornett, Uncles, Grady Jones, J. B., Ovell, Vernon and Troy King, Aunt, Kathleen Brackett, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday Dec. 31, 2005 at 11:00 am from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Jones officiating. Special music will be presented by the New Life Singers. Phillip Luke Barnett age 19 of Chatham Rd. Blairsville passed away on Thursday Dec. 29, 2005 in Lumpkin County following injuries received in an automobile accident. Luke was born on Dec. 31, 1985 in Hall County, GA., The son of Phillip Joel Barnett and Virginia Maxine Tignor Barnett. He was a lifelong resident of Union County and had attended the Union County School system. Luke was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Luke are his parents, Maxine Barnett of Blairsville and Phillip Barnett of Lawrenceville, GA., Two sisters and one brother in law, Allison and Mark Thorsen of Cumming, GA., Britton Naomi Barnett of Deluth, two brothers and sister in laws, Jeff and Teresa Barnett of Savannah, GA., Robert and Susan Barnett of Blairsville, Grandparents, Troy and Joy Tignor of Snellville, Bobbie Barnett of Lawrenceville, Nieces and nephews, Natalie Thorsen, Ryan Marie Barnett and Isiah Barnett, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mrs. Martha Nell McDonald age 76 of Hendricks Drive Murphy, NC., passed away on Saturday July 28, 2007 in the Valley View Healthcare Center in Andrews following an extended illness. Mrs. McDonald was born on May 23, 1931 in Murphy, NC., the daughter of the late Perlie Elmer Johnson and the late Louise Reid Johnson. She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee county. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Edward McDonald. Mrs. McDonald was a member of the Upper Peachtree Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. McDonald are four daughters and son in laws, Sandra and Larry Helton of Murphy, Linda and Johnny Foster of Waynesville, NC., Lorrie and Kenny Messer of Owensboro, KY., Julie Mathis and husband, Frank of Murphy, two sons and daughter in laws, Ronnie and Shirley McDonald of Blairsville, Ricky and Terri McDonald of Andrews, one sister, Gladys Adams of Murphy, grandchildren, Jonathan and Marcie Foster, April and Scott Pascia, Vanessa and Brandon Bland, Joseph and Martha Foster, Cassie McDonald, Jacob Foster, Scott Helton, Joshua Mathis and Krista Mathis, great-grandchildren, Jon Luke Foster, Morgan Bland, Aarron Bland and Gabriel Foster, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Larry David Garner
Mr. Larry David Garner age 52 of Peachtree City, GA. formerly of Suches, GA., passed away on Wednesday Aug. 1, 2007 at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Garner was born on Oct. 27, 1954 in Athens, GA., the son of Elizabeth Morey Garner and the late James Arthur Garner. He was the owner of A & W Automotive in Jonesboro, GA. Larry was a kind and gentle soul and was well loved through out the Clayton County Community. He is now with God and will greatly be missed. Mr. Garner was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Garner are Roxan Johnson, his life time love of his heart, of Peachtree City, uncle, Bob Garner of Suches, mother, Elizabeth Summerour of Clermont, one sister, Christin Freeman of Rockmart, GA., five brothers and five sister in laws, Richard and Ruby Garner of Monroe, GA., Doug and Lou Garner of Newburn, GA., Gordon and Connie Garner of Lexington, KY., Jim and Mary Garner of Princeton, KY., Dale and Virginia Worthy of Montecello, GA., uncle, , several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

WILLIA GRACE HALL
Mrs. Willia Grace Hall age 85 of Wesley Mtn. Drive Blairsville formerly of Hiawassee and Fannin County passed away on Friday August 3, 2007 following an extended illness. Mrs. Hall was born on June 20, 1922 in Fannin County, the daughter of the late Wesley Parker and the late Flora Taylor Parker. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Kirby and by a grandson, Randy White. Grace was a kind hearted, gentle and loving lady. She loved to garden and just being outdoors. Grace finally found the peace which she had sought for so long, being with her daughter, grandson and her God. Mrs. Hall was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mrs. Hall are one sister, Helen Callahan of Michigan, Sister in law, Joyce Burns, niece, Vickie Plemmons, cousin, Jean Kendall, very special friends, Joy Meers, Faye and Steven Foster, many many other friends including the ones at Branan Lodge, several other nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends also survive.
