ROBERT C. PHINNEY

Mr. Robert C. Phinney age 77 of Blairsville formerly of Ft. Myers, FL., passed away on Saturday Jan. 6, 2007 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Phinney was born on Feb.26, 1929 in West Lake, OH., The son of the late Calvin Phinney and the late Nettie Koch Phinney. He was a farmer for over twenty five years and was also a Fireman for over ten years. Mr. Phinney was a member of the All Saints Lutheran Church.
Surviving Mr. Phinney are his loving wife of fifty one years, Georgene Bender Phinney of Blairsville, daughter and son in law, Susan and Joe Clark of Ft. Myers, FL., son and daughter in law, Randy and Pam Phinney of Young Harris, GA., son and daughter in law, Timm and Jodi Phinney of Corvallis, MT., daughter and son in law, Christi and Billy Hart of Ft. Myers, FL., five grandchildren, Tiffany, Ryan, Ericka, Gretchen and Lairen, one great- grandchild, Laci, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday Jan. 12, 2007 at 10:30 am from the All Saints Lutheran church with Pastor Dave Wesche officiating. Special music will be presented by the All Saints church choir. iIntermentwill follow in the Union Memory Gardens cemetery. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the All Saints Lutheran church in Mr. Phinney’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-8pm.

JIMMY WAYNE COOK

Mr. Jimmy Wayne Cook age 74 of Trackrock Church Rd. Blairsville passed away on Thursday Jan.11, 2007 in the North East Ga. Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Cook was born on Sept. 26, 1932 in Fulton County, GA., The son of the late Lawrence Wayne Cook and the late Evelyn Dodson Cook. He was a member of the Blairsville Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge F&AM and a member of the Local #85 Union. He was a retired Welder with over thirty five yeas of service with Mallory and Evans Company. Mr. Cook attended Coosa Methodist Church.
Surviving Mr. Cook are his loving wife of twenty six years, Vivian Cook of Blairsville, one son and daughter in law, David and Sandy Cook of Jackson, GA., three daughters and son in laws, Laurie and Scott Young of Columbus, GA., Sandi and Frank Dyer of Birmingham, AL., Robin and Ricky Poston of Jackson, GA., three step children, John and Pam Jordon of Blairsville, Geneva and Gerry Bailey of Blairsville, Krickett and Ellison of TX., two sisters and brother in laws, Delores and Bobby Cooley of Snellville, Maryellen and Guy Anglin of Conyers, GA., sixteen grandchildren, Amanda and Audrey Cook, Jared Dyer, Corey and Chad Cunningham, Justin Mullinax, Sheldon Preston, Keith Dyer, Wil and Samantha Young, Joe Jordon, Mark and Jeff Kelley, Renee Patterson, Lynn Thorton and Kay Jordon Coots, several great –grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday Jan. 15, 2007 at 11:00am from the Coosa United Methodist church with the Rev. Katie Strals officiating. Special music will be presented by the Coosa Church Choir. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Joe Jordon, Keith, Jared and Frank Dyer, Justin Mullinax, Corey and Chad Cunningham, Ricky Poston, Scott and Wil Young. iIntermentwill follow in the church cemetery.

THOMAS DEWEY DUCKWORTH SR.

Mr. Thomas Duckworth Sr., age 60, of Fairview Trail, Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following a sudden illness. Mr. Duckworth was born on Nov. 8, 1944 in Union County, the son of late Ralph Duckworth and the DimpIe Jones Duckworth. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar Duckworth in July of this year. Mr. Duckworth was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Duckworth are his wife Charolette Adams Duckworth of Blairsville, two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Randy Colwell of Blairsville, Tina and Jay Prince Topton, NC, two Sons and one daughter-in-law, Thomas and Georgia Duckworth of Blairsville, Barney Sanders of Blairsville, two sisters, Vessie Caraballo and Kathy Sue Burrell both of Catersville, three brothers, Robert, Gordon and Jerry Duckworth all of Blairsville, Roy Duckworth of Florida, seven grand children, Mathew Thomas, Joshua Colwell, Josey Prince, Candance Lotcher, Haley, Megan and Breanna Duckworth, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating. Special music will be presented by Jimmy McKinney, The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Randy Colwel, Matthew Thomas, Richard Mason, Larry Thomas, Wayne Adams and Charles Colwell. iIntermentfollowed in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

ALLEN ANDREW BALDWIN

US Army WWII

Mr. Allen Andrew Baldwin age 79 of Woodland Drive Blairsville passed away on Friday Sept. 16, 2005 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Baldwin was born on Nov.28, 1925 in Lee County, Iowa, The son of the late Victor Baldwin and the late Mary Sommers Baldwin. He had retired in 1987 from the City of Ft. Pierce, FL. He was a Veteran of the US Army of WWII where he received several medals, including the Silver Star. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Mr. Baldwin was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Baldwin are his loving wife of thirty years, Betty Jean Williams Baldwin of Blairsville, two sons and one daughter in law, Kenneth Baldwin of Ft. Pierce, FL., Jeff and Rose Baldwin of Cedar Rapids. IA., one daughter, Connie Baldwin of Cedar Rapids, one step son, Roger Lankford of Stuart, FL., two step daughters, Barbara Yates of Jenson Beach, FL., Donna Conville of Tampa, FL., two grandchildren, Brian Baldwin and Julia Diederich, one great-grandchild, Joseph Baldwin, six step grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday Sept. 19, 2005 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with Dr. Fred Lodge officiating. Special music will be presented by Kurtis Underwood. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Frank Ehrhardt, Harry Cox, Jack Howington, Horace Parker, Jim Ferguuson and Felix Geoghegan. iIntermentwill follow in the Union Memory Gardens cemetery with the North GA. Honor Guard conducting Military Honors.

DORA MELINDA REECE

Mrs. Dora Melinda Reece age 100 of Owltown Rd. Blairsville passed away on Sunday Sept. 18, 2005 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Reece was born on July 10, 1905 in Union County, The daughter of the late Marion Reece and the late Mary Jane Burnette Reece. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Franklin Reece in 1966, and also by three sons, Frazier Paul Reece, J. W. Reece and Marion Reece, And a son in law, Eric Spiva. She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. Mrs. Reece was a member of the Owltown Church of God.
Surviving Mrs. Reece are one daughter, Lawanda Spiva of Blairsville, one son, Joe Reece of Blairsville, seventeen Grandchildren, Forty two Great-Grandchildren, sixty Great-great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Sept. 21, 2005 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Terry Reece and Gene Spiva officiating. Special music will be presented by Peggy Patrick, Ruth Patterson, Tiffany Reece, Merridith Pruitt and Connie Reece. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Rick Spiva, Eddie Reece, Dana Reece, Ronnie Reece, James Spiva and Larry Reece. iIntermentwill follow in the Owltown Church of God Cemetery.

BRIAN MICHAEL O'ROURKE

Mr. Brian Michael O’Rourke age 69 of Twelve Point Rd. Blairsville passed away on Thursday Sept. 15, 2005 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. O’Rourke was born on Dec. 24, 1935 in Newark, NJ., The son of the late John O’Rourke and the late Mary Cook O’Rourke. He had retired from Teaching in 1993, Serving several years with the Dade County, FL. and several Townships in NJ. Schools Systems. Mr. O’Rourke was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving Mr. O’Rourke are his loving wife of twenty years, Alice Sheehan O’Rourke of Blairsville, two sons. Kevin and Sean O’Rourke both of Daytona, FL., two daughters and one son in law, Jeanne and Anthony Ventura of Easton, PA., Lillian Hayes of Port Orange, FL., one brother, Jack O’Rourke of Bluffton, SC., six Grandchildren, Erica, Kelly, and Anthony Ventura, Jennifer and Alexandra Hayes and Kaitlin O’Rourke, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service for Mr. O’Rourke will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that memorials may be made to United Hospice Inc.5004 Appalachain Hwy. Blue Ridge, GA.30513 in Mr. O’Rourke’s memory.

GEORGE ANDREW TOTH

Mr. George Andrew Toth age 87 of Lakeside Drive Blairsville passed away on Saturday March 18, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Toth was born on July 20, 1918 in Cleveland, OH., The son of the late George Toth and the late Rose Fabian Toth He was a veteran of the US Army of WWII. He was a member of the US Army Reserves, the VFW, the American Legion, the Retired Officers Assc., Woodmen of the World. He was a member and was the Founder of the Knights of Columbus of Blairsville. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Eles Toth and by his second wife, Rita Ronning Toth. Mr. Toth was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church.
Surviving Mr. Toth are two sons and one daughter in law, George and Debi Toth of Gastonia, NC., Gary Toth of Randleman, NC., step son, Joe Ronning of NY, NY., one Grandson, Michael Toth of Greensboro, NC., many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 21, 2006 at 10:00am from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church with Father Richard Wise officiating. Special music will be presented by Bob and Jean Hiler. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Charlie Gluodenis, Mel Prime, Ed Combs, Charlie Brown, Joe O’Brien and Walt Shumway. Military honors will be conducted by the North Georgia Honor Guard. iIntermentand graveside services will be held on Thursday March 23, 2006 at 9:00am from the Elm Lawn cemetery in Kenmore, NY. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 2-4pm and from 6-9pm with a Scriptural Rosary being held at 7:00pm.

Mr. Robert Lee Grigsby age 73 of Stone Brook Circle Blairsville passed away on Friday March 24, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Grigsby was born on Aug. 6, 1932 in Kansas City MO., The son of the late George Henry Grigsby and the late Helen McCombs Grigsby. He was a veteran of the US Army of the Vietnam War and had twenty one years of service. He was a member of the Blairsville Kiwanis Club. Mr. Grigsby was a member of Bell View United Methodist church.
Surviving Mr. Grigsby are his loving wife, Brigitte Beck Grigsby of Blairsville, three sons, Robert L. Grigsby Jr. of Kansas City, MO., Kurt Grigsby of Colonial Heights, VA., Clinton Kluesner of Colonial Heights, one daughter, Sandra Schaffer of Kansas, one sister, Helen Brittsan of Roy WA., seven Grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday March 26, 2006 at 3:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Patt Miller and Rev. Mike Bias officiating. Special music will presented by Jeri Ruth Roberts. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 2-5pm.

TIMOTHY ALFRED JONES

Mr. Timothy Alfred Jones age 25 of Pine log Rd. Blairsville passed away on Monday March 27, 2006 from injuries received in an automobile accident. Mr. Jones was born on Dec. 1, 1980 in Union County, The son of Alfred Jones and Maxine Dockery Jones. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and had attended the Union County school system. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was preceded in death by his Grandfather, Grover Jones and his Grandmother, Gracie Anderson. Mr. Jones attended the Blairsville Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving Mr. Jones are his Fiancée Carol Jean Thornley of Blairsville, one son, Cyrus Jones of Blairsville, Father, Alfred Jones of Blairsville, Mother and Step Father, Maxine and George Trogdon of Blairsville, one sister, Amber Trogdon of Blairsville, Grandmother, Loreane Henson of Blairsville, several aunts, uncles, cousins and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 30, 2006 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Danny Bohler and Rev. Ivan Rexroth officiating. Special music will be presented by Doris Sourdiffe and Marion Durkee. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Alfred Jones, Blake Jones, Joe Mealor, Matthew Patterson, Eddie Beaver and Derrick Tanner. iIntermentwill follow in the Pleasant Hill Baptist church cemetery. ROBYN (ROBBIE) L. WILEY

Mrs. Robyn (Robbie) L. Wiley age 53 of Holly Hill Drive Hiawassee passed away on Wednesday March 29, 2006 after a lifetime battle with cancer. Mrs. Wiley was born on June 24, 1952 in Ludington, MI., The daughter of the late Clifford Henry Mavis and Joyce Allen Mavis. She was preceded in death by her father, Clifford Henry Mavis and by a sister, Jeanne Marie Butterfield.
Surviving Mrs. Wiley are her loving husband, Roy Q. Wiley of Hiawassee. Mother, Joyce Allen Mavis of Hiawassee, two daughters and one son in law, Ami Louise and Rodney Thompson, Heather Marie Burke all of Ludington, MI., two sisters and one son in law, Katherine Monk of Hiawassee, Susan and Gene, one brother Mavis of Hope, AK., two Grandchildren, Summer and Seth Daniel Thompson, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

HENRY GRADY ABERCROMBIE

Mr. Henry Grady Abercrombie age 98 of Bonnie Lane Blairsville passed away on Saturday April 21, 2007 in the Union County Nursing Home following a brief illness. Mr. Abercrombie was born on Jan.24, 1909 in Fannin County, the son of the late Albert and Josie Wright Abercrombie. He was a lifelong resident of Union, Fannin Counties and Polk County, TN. He retired from the Tennessee Chemical Company after several years of service. He played many musical instruments, but his favorite was the fiddle, banjo and harmonica. He was the Guest on the Grand Ole Opry several times and played with Bill and Charlie Monroe, Earl Flatts and Lester Scruggs and the Cater Sisters, just to name a few. His favorite past time was Fox Hunting, which he started at the age of seven. Grady, Loved life, his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, fishing and the great outdoors. He was preceded in death by his wife. Minnie Chambers Abercrombie, a grandson, Jackie ( Butch) Abercrombie, brothers and sisters, Bascomb Abercrombie, Dawson, Hobert and Claude Wright, Reba Davenport, Lula Patterson, Fairy Parris and Bonnie Abercrombie. Mr. Abercrombie was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Abercrombie are two sons and one daughter in law, Jackie and Helen Abercrombie of Blairsville, Jimmy Abercrombie of Blairsville, Six grandchildren, Jimmy Lynn and Steve Abercrombie, Candy Colwell, Melissa Tanner, Natha Rivers and Robby Abercrombie, thirteen great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Monday April 23, 2007 at 11:00am from the Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Cotton Harris, Rev. Vernon Davenport and Rev. Floyd Thomas officiating. A Eulogy will be given by his son, Jackie. Special music will be presented the Bethlehem Church Choir. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Robby, Jimmy Lynn, Steve, Aaron and Daniel Abercrombie and Robby Rivers. iIntermentwill follow in the church cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 4-9pm.
