Bertha Mae Manning Johnson
Bertha Mae Manning Johnson, 93, of Blackshear, passed away early Sunday morning, December 3, 2006, at the Pierce County Nursing Home.
A native of Wayne County, she had lived most of her life in Pierce County. She was a homemaker and was also a member of the Youmans Chapel Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late George and Lula Gill Manning and was also preceded in death by her husband, George Johnson, several brothers and sisters and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors are seven daughters, Marion Dixon, Volusia Co., FL and Carolyn Anderson, Jonette (Winton) Taylor, Bertie (Travis) Dixon, Nancy Dixon, Shirley Bolden and Barbara (Ted) Clark, all of Pierce County; two sons, Terry (Cheryl) Johnson and Eddie (Linda) Courson, all of Pierce County; a sister, Hazel Wilson, Seattle, WA; a brother, Robert (Kathy) Manning, Yulee, FL; 28 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews andother relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. this morning (Wednesday, Dec. 6, from the Youmans Chapel Baptist Church.

Jessie Mae Williams
Jessie Mae Williams, 70, of 1305 Martin Luther King Dr. in Waycross, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2006 at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross after a lengthy illness.
Friends are being received at the residence of her daughter, Bennie Bell Williams, 1920 McClure St., Waycross.
Funeral arrangements and a complete list of survivors will be announced later by Rainge Memorial Chapel, Inc. in Blackshear.
Brittanie Loyd
Brittanie Loyd, 21, of 910 Sebring Court, Apt. 39, Tallahassee, FL, died Friday, November 17, 2006, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born November 12, 1985, in Miami, FL as the daughter of James Loyd Sr. and Claudette V. Tomlin. She was educated through home bound schooling . At the age of 13, Brittanie moved with her family to Tallahassee, FL.
Brittanie was an exceptional child and was deeply loved and cherished by her family and special friends.
Survivors include her parents, James (Beverly) Loyd Sr., Miami, FL, Claudette V. (Joseph Jr.) Irvine, Tallahassee, FL; three brothers, Tony Brown Jr., James Loyd Jr. and Christopher Loyd, all of Tallahassee, FL; four sisters, Danielle Loyd, Tamara Loyd, Sherry Loyd and Jamesha Loyd, all of the Waycross/ Blackshear area; her paternal grandmother, Lillie Bell Loyd, Patterson; her maternal grandmother, Loraine Tomlin, Blackshear; a special aunt: Shirley Smith, Blackshear; a very special friend, Mother Kathy Dixon, Tallahassee, FL and a host of other, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25 from the Faith Temple Holiness Church on Hall Street in Blackshear with Bishop Albert Bussey, pastor, officiating.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jacobs Funeral Home of Blackshear.
A. C. Patterson
A. C. Patterson, 86, of Blackshear, passed away early Monday morning, November 20, 2006, at the Pierce County Nursing Home.
A native of Panama City, FL, he had lived there for many years before moving to Pierce County 31 years ago. He was retired from the Florida Times Union where he had been a district manager and was a member of the Youmans Chapel Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Albert Reese and Clarice C. Hall Patterson and was also preceded in death by his wife, Inez Waters Patterson, and by two brothers, Clyde Patterson and Dallas Patterson.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Patterson, Mount Dora, FL and Annette Miller, Fort Pierce, FL; a sister and brother-in-law, Aquila and John Read, Keene, TX; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert R., Jr. and Vonceille Patterson, Baton Rouge, LA; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Patterson, Panama City and Beverly Patterson of Texas; a grandchild, Jeffrey Skaggs, Fort Pierce; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and also his companion pets, Tippy and Smut III, which he dearly loved.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 25, from the graveside at Greenlawn Cemetery.
Memorialization is by cremation.

Fred Chancellor Sr.
Fred Chancellor Sr., 69, of Patterson, passed away late Thursday evening, November 23, 2006, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
A native of Roberta, he had lived in Jacksonville, FL for many years before moving to Pierce County four years ago. He was a retired welder with J. C. Renfroe and Sons and was also a U.S. Army Veteran having served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was of the Baptist faith and will be remembered for his love for his grandchildren and tending to his garden. He was a son of the late Grady and Martha Bennett Chancellor and was also preceded in death by two daughters, Charlotte Barber and Christina Lynn Johns, and by a brother, Jack Chancellor.
Survivors include his loving wife whom he loved to take care of, Angela King Chancellor, Patterson; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Christopher Lindsey, Jacksonville; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Dewayne and Debbie Gunter of Oregon, Fred Chancellor Jr. and Glenn Gunter, both of Patterson and James and Jennifer Gunter, Folkston; a sister, Juanita Childers, Roberta; 10 grandchidren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 26, from the graveside at the Laura Chapel Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth Floyd Smith
Mary Elizabeth Floyd Smith, 68, of Blackshear, passed away Friday afternoon, November 24, 2006, at the Pierce County Nursing Home.
A native of Surrency, she had lived in Pierce County since 1973. She had worked as a sales lady for the United Market and the former Clark’s Grocery Store in Waycross before becoming a private sitter. She was a member of the Blackshear First Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Rommie and Sarah Vernell Bacon Floyd, and also by her husband, Joe C. “Bus” Smith, who passed away in 1995.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Glynn Gillis, Blackshear; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Carol and Stephanie James, Waresboro and Levey Smith, Blackshear; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley Jean and Archie Connell, Blackshear; six grandchildren, Kalley Gillis, Ashley Lovell, Kane Smith, Craig James, Trey James and Eric James; one great-grandchild, Alexis James, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 27, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel.

Iris Lewis Godwin McGhin
Iris Lewis Godwin McGhin, 81, of Waycross, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday evening, November 25, 2006.
A native of Pierce County, she had lived in Folkston for 20 years before moving to Baptist Village where she had lived for the last five years. She was a homemaker and will also be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Sweat Memorial Baptist Church but was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Folkston. She was a daughter of the late Dawson L. and Ethel Groover Lewis and was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank McGhin; a son, Ronnie J. Godwin, who passed away in 1986; two sisters, Bill Aldridge and Gladys Smiley; and three brothers, Earlish Lewis, the Rev. Kenneth Lewis and James Lewis.
Survivors are two daughters and a son-in-law, Carol Wetherington, Blackshear and Mary Lou and Doyle Lewis of Folkston; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Kay Godwin, Blackshear and James and Martha McGhin, St. Marys; a daughter-in-law, Pat Godwin, Peachtree City; 12 grandchildren, Sherri Robson, Butch Wetherington, Cindy Smith, Chip Godwin, Joey Godwin, Tracy Fuqua, Melody Pullin, James McGhin, Jim McGhin, Modesta Blansett, Marty McGhin and Shawn Godwin; a number of great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews amd other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel.

Deloris Bryce Roberson
Deloris Bryce Roberson, 79, of Screven, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006, in Jacksonville, FL, after an extended illness.
The Duval County, FL native had lived in Screven most of her life and was a member of Salem Primitive Baptist Church. She was a retired school teacher with Wayne and Pierce Counties and she was an avid traveler. She was the widow of J.O. Roberson Jr.
Survivors include her son, Joseph O. Roberson III, Alexandria, VA; a daughter, Laura Roberson Waters, Screven; three granddaughters Megan Roberson, Alexandria, VA, Amy W. (Steven) Long, Screven and Anna Jo Waters, Screven; two great-grandchildren, Casey Long and Callie Long.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, from the Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Ledbetter officiating.

Cecil H. Wells
Cecil H. Wells, 62, of Pierce and Long Counties, died Friday, November 24, 2006, at his residence.
A native of Long County, he had lived in Patterson for the past 25 years and was a Baptist. He was retired from Long Auto Parts in Ludowici and was an avid sports fan.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Ellen E. Wells, Patterson; one daughter and son-in-law, Cristy and Ronnie Swindell, Ludowici; a son, Deon Wells, Ludowici; four step-sons, Guido Valerio, James Valerio, John Enzian and Mike Enzian, all of Patterson; three sisters, Hazel Stafford, Ludowici, Deleita Ray, Hinesville and Dale Long, Ludowici; four brothers, Melvin Wells, Hinesville, Lloyd Wells and Richard Wells, both of Ludowici and Edward Wells, Hinesville; three grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, from the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Long officiating.

Ellen Laverne Godwin Hineline
Ellen Laverne Godwin Hineline, 60, passed away Saturday morning, November 25, 2006, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
A native of Pierce County, she had lived in Ware County for most of her life. She was a homemaker and was of the Holiness faith. Mrs. Hineline was a daughter of the late Richard Ralph and Annie Louise Taylor Godwin and was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Hineline, a daughter, Cynthia Hineline Allen; a son, Robert A. Hineline, Jr.; a grandchild, Sean Phillip Merkle; a sister, Jeannette Godwin and two brothers, Donald Godwin and Tracy Godwin.
Survivors are a daughter and son-n-law, Jammie and Sean Merkle, Waycross; a son, Jack D. Hineline, Sr., Waycross; her loving companion, Frank Thomas, Waycross; two brothers and a sister-n-law, James Elmo and Betty Godwin, Bryceville, FL and Billy Godwin, Blackshear; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service for Mrs. Hineline will be held Saturday, December 2, 2006, at 1 p.m. from the graveside at the St. John cemetery in Pierce County.
Memorialization is by cremation.
