Peggy King Oglesby
Peggy Oglesby, 76, of Blackshear died early Thursday morning, November 9, 2006 at Baptist Village in Waycross, following an extended illness.
A life-long resident of Pierce County, she was a homemaker, and a member of Blackshear Church of God. She also attended several Baptist churches with her children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Oglesby and three grandchildren, Christian Scurry, Matthew Shuman and Wayne Oglesby Jr.
Survivors include five sons Buddy Oglesby (JoAnn), St. Marys, Donnie Oglesby (Angela), Nahunta, Wayne Oglesby, Blackshear, David Oglesby (Donna), Waycross, Fred Oglesby (Lisa), Blackshear; six daughters, Mary Shuman (Stanley), Hoboken, Martha Broyles (Jerry), Clermont, Aline Eason (Sam), Folkston, Bobbie Sue Johnson (Lloyd), Washington, Dale Sikes (Chris), Waynesville, Peggy King (Timothy), Blackshear; 30 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Caroline Allbritton, Waycross, Ann Chancellor, Patterson, May Raulerson, Jacksonville, FL; four brothers, Claude King of Louisiana, Phillip King, Patterson, Steve King and Larry King, both of Alabama and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, from the Youmans Chapel Baptist Church.

Nell Gene Boyette Strickland Tuten
Nell Gene Boyette Strickland Tuten, 72, of Blackshear, passed away Friday afternoon, November 10, 2006, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center following a short illness.
Born in Wayne County, she had lived in Pierce County all of her life. She had been a seamstress with Julie Hat and was known for her love of helping others. She was a member of Ritch Baptist Church but had also attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. A daughter of the late N. C. and Sarah Bell Cason Boyette, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Daniel Beal Strickland, and her second husband, William Warren Tuten; a grandchild, Wesley Wayne Martin, three sisters, Scecila Murray, Juliette Chancey and Nancy King and a brother, James Robert Boyette. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and will also be remembered as hardworking.
Survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Beverly Ann Strickland, Blackshear, Gloria and Jesse Trull and Jeannett and Scott Eunice, all of Hoboken and Jeannie Tuten, Patterson; two sisters, Betty Ann Denison and Donna Murray, both of Patterson; seven grandchildren, Micheal Wayne (Susan) Martin, Darren M. Drawdy, Dan (Joy) Driggers, Brent Miller, Kelcey Smith, Brandon Eunice and Lily Eunice; five great-grandchildren, Sebastian Martin, Meghan Cheyenne Martin, Dakota Martin, Preston Brook Drawdy and Robert Jewell and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday afternoon, Nov. 13, from the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Tommy Youmans
Tommy Youmans, 56, died Saturday night, November 11, 2006, at the Tift Health Care in Tifton following an extended illness.
He was a native and life-long resident of Pierce County until he moved to Tifton in 1999.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ander Eugene Youmans and Susie Oglesby Youmans Thornton; his step-father, Joe Thornton and a brother, Andy Youmans.
He was of the Baptist faith and was retired from Reid Inc. (now Pioneer Machinery) as a diesel mechanic.
Survivors include his son Joe Youmans (wife Penny), Blackshear; two daughters Tammy Barnes, Norman Park, and Margie Jennings (husband Darin), Newport News, VA; four grandchildren Tommy Youmans, Blackshear, Dalen Barnes, Norman Park, and Paul and Richard Jennings of Newport News, VA; three brothers, Randall Youmans (wife Carol), Blackshear, Jimmy Youmans, Bristol, and Sammy Youmans (wife Wanda), Blackshear; a sister Linda Holloway (husband Danny), Bristol; two step-sisters Navonia Bargeron, Blackshear and Veta Kirkland (husband Bill), Blackshear, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral service were held at 11 a.m. this morning (Wednesday, Nov. 15) from the chapel of Smith Funeral Home.

Mary Albertine Johnson Smith
Mary Albertine Johnson Smith, 86, of Patterson, passed away Wednesday morning, October 4, 2006, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
A native of Hardeman County, TN, she had lived in Doctors Inlet, FL for many years before moving to Pierce County six months ago. She was a housewife but had also worked on the family farm. She was Baptist by faith. She was a daughter of the late Turner A. and Lassie Jones Johnson and was also preceded in death by her husband, William Smith, and a son, Albert Smith.
Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Leotta Ann Smith, Jonesboro, AR, Donna and Larry Bray, Patterson and Darla Smith, Coleman, FL; a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Annett Smith, Leesburg, FL; three sisters, Vernice Minor, Juanetta Johnson and Agnes Minor, all of Sallisaw, OH; a brother, Roy Mack Johnson, Sallisaw; six grandchildren, Kathy Myers, Gloria Rena, Melissa Durham, Jessica Durham, Anthony Smith and Jennifer Smith; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorialization is by cremation.

Marietta Conner Howard, 94, of Blackshear died Sunday afternoon, October 8, 2006, at Satilla Care Center in Waycross following an extended illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Howard, and her parents, Rufus and Lovdie McBee Conner.
She was a homemaker and a long-time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Streat (husband Wilbur), Nicholls and Jackie Riggins, Blackshear; five grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, from the chapel of Smith Funeral Home.

Jimmie Sue Carter
Jimmie Sue Carter, 68, of Alma, died early Monday night September 25, 2006 at the Bacon County Hospital in Alma, after an extended illness.
She was a native of Pierce County, but had lived in Bacon County most of her life. She was daughter of the late T. J. Smith and Nora Mae Perry Smith. She was a member of Corinth Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, James S. Carter, Alma; a son, Larry S. Carter (wife Kay), Nome, AK; two brothers, A. E. (Gene) Smith, Albany and Jerry Smith, Bristol; a sister, Jan Murphy, Bristol; two grandchildren, Michael W. Carter and Lara K. Carter, both of Nome, AK; two great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, Jamie Knight, Alma and Levi Boatright, Blackshear.

Wilma Lee Vickers Thompson Wade
Wilma Lee Vickers Thompson Wade, 91, of Waycross, passed away early Thursday morning September 28, 2006 at the Pierce County Nursing Home.
She was a native of Coffee County but had lived most of her adult life in Waycross. She had been a sales clerk for J.C. Penney and was also a homemaker. Her loves were flowers, gardening and family. She was a member of Corinth Free Will Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Ira and Gussie Poston Vickers and was preceded in death by her first husband, Ottis A. Thompson in 1987; a daughter, Veneta Pearce; a sister, Edna Gill and three brothers, Curtis Vickers, Rex Vickers and David Vickers.
Survivors include her husband Holmes Wade, Waycross; a son and daughter-in-law, Carol and Mary Nell Thompson, Blackshear; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Jeannie Wade, St. Simons; a son-in-law, Emory and Dorothy Pearce, Atlanta; a sister, Nell and Charlie Robbins, Winter Haven, FL; a brother, James and Juanita Vickers, Lake Okeechobee FL; five grandchildren and their spouses, Ronnie and Jill Pearce, Darrel and Terri Pearce, Danna and John Barnes, Carla and Mark Brown and Lynn and Steve Dudley; nine great-grandchildren Cam, Brent, Alex, Abbie, Allie, Emily, Alexia Jean, Marshall, and Libby and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Dusty Clifton Rhodes
Dusty Clifton Rhodes, 19, of Offerman died late Friday evening, September 29, 2006, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, following an extended illness.
He was born in Waycross but had lived all of his life in Pierce County.
He was a senior at Pierce County High School and was active in the Satilla Miracle League. He was a gold medal winner in last year’s Special Olympics and was involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
He was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and the youth group and he also attended New Testament Church in Hortense.
Survived include his parents, David and Debra Rhodes, Offerman; a brother, Cody Clifton Rhodes, Offerman; his grandparents, Mary and Frank Corbitt, Patterson and Mary and Ray Rhodes, Offerman, and several aunts, uncles. And other relatives.

Colleen Brooker Ebersole
Colleen Brooker Ebersole, 75, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away early Tuesday morning, September 19, 2006, at her residence.
Born in Pierce County, she had lived in Jacksonville for most of her adult life. She was a customer service representative for American Trans Tech and was of the Baptist faith. Being of Scottish descent, she was very proud of her heritage and was also a very proud member of Clan Buchanah. She was a daughter of the late Lee Ander and Claudia Lee Richardson Brooker and was also preceded in death by all seven of her sisters, including her twin, Claudeen Boluanger, and all of her five brothers.
Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Janet and Bruce Gervin Sr., Melissa Lively and Terry Harris, all of Jacksonville; a son, Keith Ebersole, Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Dusty Harris, Bruce (Lisa) Gervin, Jr., Brian Gervin and Katelyn Ebersole; a great-grandchild, Bruce Gervin III and several loving nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 23, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel.
