Benjamin ‘Fox’ Taylor

Benjamin “Fox” Taylor, 58, of Bristol, died very early Saturday, May 27, 2006 at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross.
He was born on June 13, 1947 as the son of Mrs. Elizabeth J. Curry Taylor and the late Norman L. Taylor Sr.
He was educated in the public schools of Pierce County and began his career as a farmer at the early age of 13 with Mr. R.O. Kimbrell and then later with Mr. J.C. Callahan at Callahan Dairy, where he remained until ill health forced his retirement. He was also an avid fisherman.
“He was a friend to everyone he met and was always willing to give a ‘helping hand’ in any way he could, ” said a family member.
He was a member of Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Mershon and attended regularly.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Taylor, Bristol; his mother, Elizabeth Taylor Moore (William); three sisters, Mrs. Lucy M. Broady (Charles), Mae Lizzy Taylor and Ruby M. Beel(James), all of Blackshear; four brothers, Robert L. Taylor (Barbara Jean), Mershon, Ellis Taylor (Shirley), Bristol, Norman L. Taylor Jr. and Samuel Taylor, all of Blackshear; seven children, Carleisha Johnson (Donelius), Hampton, VA; Alicia Taylor, Killeen, TX; Stephanie Taylor, Benjamin Taylor Jr., James Willie Thomas and Sherri Taylor, all of Atlanta and Johnny Taylor, Bristol; 17 grandchildren and three special god-children, Monique Parrish, Bristol, Jasmine Smith and Dion Platt, both of Blackshear along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousinsand friends and a special friend, Mr. Jimmy Presley.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 3, from the Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Mershon with the Rev. L.C. Rogers officiating.
Arrangements were entrusted to Jacobs Funeral Home of Blackshear.

Violet Ulene Weathers

Violet Ulene Weathers, 45, of Blackshear died Wednesday afternoon, May 31, 2006, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was a native of Bacon County but had lived all of her life in Pierce County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Earl Weathers and Latrelle Robinson Weathers and by two sisters, Marie Raulerson and Becky Weathers.
She was formerly employed with American Egg before her illness.
She was a member of Offerman Church of God where she was a member of the New Convert Class.
Survivors include her son, Stoney Weathers, Blackshear; a sister, Darlene Sweat (husband Marvin), Hortense; a brother, Kenny Weathers, Hortense; special friends, Johnnie Mae Lyons, Offerman, Toy Douglas and Joy Driggers, both of Blackshear and Naomi Wilson, Jesup and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 2, from the Offerman Church of God.
iIntermentfollowed in the Offerman Cemetery.
Smith Funeral Home of Blackshear was in charge of arrangements.

James Tristan Carter

James Tristan Carter, seven month old son of Michael and Misty King Carter of Patterson, died suddenly Sunday afternoon, June 4, 2006, in Blackshear.
He was born in Wayne County, but lived in Patterson.
Survivors include his parents, Michael and Misty Carter, Patterson; four brothers Tyler Carter, Brunswick, Levi Carter, Troy Carter and Eli Carter, all of Patterson; his grandparents Edward and Teressa King, Patterson, Cathy King and Garland Turner, Blackshear, Bobby and Lisa Nipper, Blackshear, and Jamie Carter, Denton, great-grandparents, Albert and Audrey Spell, Alma and Marguerette Thompson, Blackshear, and several aunts, uncles and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 8, from the Offerman Church of God. iIntermentwill follow in the Enon Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. this evening (Wednesday, June 7) at the funeral home.
Smith Funeral Home of Blackshear is in charge of arrangements.

Martha Frances Ireland

Martha Frances Ireland, died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was a native of Tifton but resided most of her life in Jacksonville, FL before moving to Waycross 16 years ago. She was the daughter of the late Judson Ray Ireland Sr. and Drue Willie Flowers Ireland. She was retired from retail sales.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Yarbrough (husband Wesley), Blackshear and Darlene Beecher, Waycross; a son, Dennis Sweat, Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Kelly Tuten, Blackshear, Bradley Yarbrough, Blackshear, Derek Beecher, Waycross, Terri Beecher, Waycross and Ciara Sweat, Jacksonville; two great-grandchildren, Brittany Poole and Austin Poole, both of Blackshear; two brothers, Dewell Ireland, Alabama and Dr. Ray Ireland, Phenix City, AL; a sister, Elanor Cannon, Tampa, FL; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. this morning (Wednesday, June 7) from the Music Funeral Home Chapel.
iIntermentfollowed in the Kettle Creek Cemetery.
Music Funeral Home of Waycross was in charge of arrangements.

Susie Murray Salis

Susie Murray Salis, 62, died suddenly Monday, May 29, 2006, at her residence in Waynesville.
She was a native of Pierce County but resided most of her life in Brantley County. She was the daughter of the late Dallas Lloyd “Doc” Murray and Katherine M. Gunter Murray. She was a waitress and a member of the Waynesville Church of God.
Survivors include three sons, James “Ricky” Walker (wife Doris), Pratt, KS, Dale Walker (wife Rebecca), Nahunta and Marvin Walker (wife Staci), Hoboken; a daughter, Cristy Salis Jennings (husband Billy), Hoboken; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother Harry Murray of Georgia and a sister, Dallas Kirkland (husband Bill), Brunswick.
Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 1 from the High Bluff cemetery in Brantley County.
Music Funeral Home of Waycross was in charge of arrangements.

Benjamin Taylor

Benjamin Taylor, 58, of Bristol, died very early Saturday, May 27, 2006 at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross.
Friends may call on his wife, Margie, and family at the residence located at 3461 Highway 32 in Bristol.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Jacobs Funeral Home of Blackshear and will be announced later.

Betty Lorene Todd Pittman

Betty Lorene Todd Pittman, 52, of Blackshear died Wednesday morning, May 24, 2006 at her residence following an extended illness.
She was a life-long resident of Pierce County. She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Carl Todd. She was a homemaker, and a member of Living River Church of God.
Survivors include her husband Jerry Kevin Pittman, Blackshear; two sons Eugene Hunt (Debbie), Rincon, Carlton L. Hunt (Rachel), Blackshear; two sisters Virginia Corbitt and Sandra Crews, both of Waycross; her parents, Alton and Beatrice Todd, Waycross; four granddaughters Candice Hunt, Heather Hunt, Ashley Lovell, and Brittany Hunt; her father-in-law, Jerry Pittman, Douglas; her mother-in-law Evelyn Flowers, Waycross and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 27, from the Living River Church of God.
iIntermentfollowed in High Bluff cemetery in Brantley County.

Jack G. Hodge

Jack G. Hodge, 68, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, in the Veterans Hospital in Biloxi, Mississippi because of complications after surgery.
He was born on May, 28, 1937, in Pierce County to the late Lawton and Laura Walker Hodge. He graduated from Blackshear High School in 1957. After graduation, he served in the Vietnam War. For the past several years, he had resided in Biloxi, MS where he had been employed in construction.
He was preceded in death by his spouse, Audrey Hodge; three brothers, Cecil Hodge, James Hodge, and Jerome Hodge, and a sister, Lavenia McGowin.
Survivors include two sisters, Beatrice (Charles) Milner, Fernandina Beach, FL and Naomi (Charles) Peacock, Pierce County and a brother, Rommie (Dorothy) Hodge, Pensacola, FL.
A memorial service and cremation burial was held Monday, May 8, from the National cemetery in Biloxi, MS.

Barbara H. Karle

Barbara H. Karle, of Waycross died Thursday night, May 18, 2006, at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL.
She was born in Chicago, IL to the late Ralph H. Hipp and Lydia Thomas Hipp. She was valedictorian of St. Joseph Academy in Tipton, IN and a magna cum laude graduate of Marion College in Indianapolis, IN. While in Indianapolis she was a member of the St. Celila Choir and City Concert Choir.
She worked as office manager and secretary for Dr. W.L. Pomeroy Jr., before her retirement. She was active in her community where she was an honorary lifetime and key member of the Waycross Junior Womens Club, where she chaired the Education Department. She also chaired the Waycross Crippled Children’s Clinic for 10 years, was a member of the Waycross City School Board for eight years and chaired the March of Dimes for numerous years. She was named a Georgia Outstanding Citizen by the State Federation of Womens Clubs.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she sang in the church choir for 30 years, and received the Bishop Gartland Award of the Diocese of Savannah for service in the church and community.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Betsy Karle and two sons, Stephen Karle and Marty Karle.
Survivors include her husband, A.A. “Gus” Karle, Waycross; her children, Mary Woodruff and her husband Joe, Waycross, Daniel Karle and his wife Norma, Greenwood, SC, David Karle and his wife Linda, Jacksonville, FL, Dr. Ginny Karle Bridges and her husband Lou, Birmingham, AL, Chris Karle and his wife Darlene, Blackshear, Matthew Karle and his wife Rita, Jacksonville, FL, Kathy Aldridge and her husband Bo, Blackshear, 17 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers, John Hipp, St. White, FL, David Hipp of Townsend, TN and numerous other relatives.
A Mass of the Resurrection was held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 22, from St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Burial followed in Calvary cemetery in Crawfordsville, IN.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to the Marty Karle Scholarship Fund c/o University of Florida Foundations, Inc., P.O. Box 14425 Gainesville, Florida 32604, please specify on any contributions “Marty Karle Fund”, or St. Joseph Catholic Church Capital Fund, 2011 Darling Ave., Waycross, Georgia 31501 or a charity of your choice.
Miles-Odum Funeral Home of Waycross was in charge of arrangements.

Raymond Lawson DuBose

Raymond Lawson DuBose, 94, of Nahunta, passed away early Friday morning, May 26, 2006, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross.
A native of Lanier County, he had lived in Brantley County for most of his life. He was a farmer for most of his adult life but had also worked for Brantley Gas Co. where he drove a gas truck. He was a member of the Nahunta First Baptist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was the eldest son of the late Lee and Susie Mae Carew DuBose and was also preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Strickland DuBose, and three sisters, Georgie DuBose, Inez Bedgood and Lena Rowell.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Curtis Sinclair, Patterson; five sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Elsie DuBose, Jupiter, FL, Burnett and Louise DuBose, Hiawassee, Russell and Katrina DuBose, Jesup and Wayne and Phyllis DuBose and Darrell and Rosa DuBose, all of Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Jeanette Jones, Acworth; three brothers, Chester DuBose, Coggin Still, Olin DuBose, Hoboken and Omer DuBose, Ridgeland, SC; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 29, from the Nahunta First Baptist Church. iIntermentfollowed in the Oak Grove cemetery in Brantley County.
Active pallbearers were his grandsons.
Members of the Men’s Sunday School Class served as honorary pallbearers.
Pearson-Treadwell Funeral Home of Blackshear was in charge of arrangements.
