Donna Dee Stainbrook Gray
Donna Dee Stainbrook Gray, 68, of Blackshear, passed away Thursday morning, April 27, 2006, at her residence following a short but courageous battle with cancer.
A native of Portage County, WI, she had lived in OH for many years before moving to Blackshear in 1984. She was a unit secretary for Baptist Village for 15 years and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She was a daughter of the late Glen Stainbrook and Marybelle Scantlin Wilkinson.
Survivors are her husband, James “Jim” Gray, Blackshear; a daughter, Michelle Young, London, OH; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cheri Young, Galloway, OH; four step-daughters, Retta Gray and Theresa Gray, both of Richmond, VA, Kitty Davies, Decatur, IL and Elizabeth Smirkowski, Wadsworth; two step-sons, Robert Gray, Richmond, VA and Michael Gray, Long Beach, CA; a sister, Glenda Tews, Marshfield, WI; a brother, Harvey Stainbrook, Sacramento, CA; a grandson, Joshua Smith and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Monday, May 1, from the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waycross.
iIntermentfollowed at 2 p.m. that afternoon in the Beaufort National cemetery in Beaufort, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Satilla, 1921 Alice Street, Suite A-1, Waycross, GA 31501.

Edward Bullard
Edward Bullard, 65, of Waycross died Saturday morning, April 29, 2005, at the Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick following an extended illness.
He was a native of Bacon County but had lived most of his life in Ware and Pierce Counties. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed Bullard and Mattie Lee Nasworth Bullard; two brothers, Jerald Bullard and Billy Bullard; three sisters, Dorothy Altman, Wilma Gill, and Fay Mullaly.
He was a retired carpenter.
Survivors include a brother, Junior Bullard, Blackshear; two sisters, Betty Moody, Blackshear and Debbie McLaughlin (husband Billy), Waycross, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, May 5, from the Sycomore Baptist Church in Pierce County.
Memorialization will be by cremation.

Bonnie Fay Moody
Bonnie Fay Anderson Moody, 49, died Sunday afternoon, April 30, 2006, at the Pierce County Nursing Home following an extended illness.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Pierce County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell Anderson and Doris Crews Anderson.
She was a member of Living River Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, Mannen Moody, of Blackshear; a son, Leaston Moody, Blackshear; a daughter, Doris Moody, Blackshear; a sister, Donna Kay Dixon (husband Johnny), Waycross; three brothers, Danny Ray Anderson, Randy Anderson (wife Kathy), and Mickey Anderson, all of Blackshear, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. (today) Wednesday, May 3, from the Living River Church of God.

J.B. Lairsey Sr.
Jack Berrien “J.B.” Lairsey Sr., 66 died Sunday morning, April 30, 2006, at Satilla Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was a native of Jacksonville, FL, but had lived most of his life in Pierce County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Starling Lairsey, his father, Cluis Thomas “C.T.” Lairsey, and a brother, Gene Lairsey.
He was retired from the Jacksonville Shipyard as a boilermaker. He was a member of Youmans Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother Mary E. Lairsey, Jacksonville, FL; two daughters, Beth Haga (husband David), Callahan, FL, Jackie Wingate (husband David), Hudson, NC; three sons Jack Lairsey Jr. (wife Angie), Jacksonville, FL, John Lairsey, St. Augustine, FL, Kevin Lairsey (wife Stephanie), Callahan, FL; 10 grandchildren, Jeremiah Coar, Lindsey Lairsey, both of Pensacola, FL, Bruce Wingate, Sanora, CA, Laci Wingate, Hudson, NC, Chad, Brett, and Brittany Lairsey of Jacksonville, FL, Spencer and Mary Jane Lairsey of Jacksonville, FL and Hunter Drew of Callahan, FL, three great- grandchildren, Ty and Maggie Little of Hudson, NC, and Aden Coar of Pensacola, FL, two brothers James Lairsey wife Barbara of Green Cove Springs, and FL, Tommy Lairsey, wife Gail of St. George, two sisters Esther Carter, husband Jerry, of Jacksonville, FL, and Dolores Price of Jacksonville, FL, several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Arthur Clinton ‘A.C.’ Denison
Arthur Clinton “A.C.” Denison, 69, died suddenly Sunday morning, April 30, 2006, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center.
A native of Wayne County, he had lived in Jacksonville, FL for many years before moving to Patterson eleven years ago.
Mr. Denison had owned Denison Upholstery in Jacksonville for twenty years and was a member of the Teamster Union Local 512 of Jacksonville for thirty years. He had also farmed but was retired from Ryder Pie Truck Lines where he had worked in the warehouse. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was a son of the late Troy Jefferson and Leila Landon Denison. Mr. Denison was also preceded in death by a son, Donnie Denison, and by a sister, Geneva Cason.
Survivors are his wife, Betty Ann Boyett Denison of Patterson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Garry and Robin Denison and Joseph and Charlene Denison, all of Patterson; a sister and brother-n-law, Eldys and Donald Dixon of Blackshear; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Troy Denison, Clayton and JoAnn Denison, Rudolph and Sue Ann Denison and Joseph A. and Sherrie Denison, all of Patterson; six grandchildren, David (Rhonda) Denison, Sandra (Elliot) Johnson, Julie Denison, Adam (Melanie) O’Quinn, Andy (Erica) O’Quinn and Mark Denison; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon (Wednesday, May 3) from the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Mary Evelyn Anderson White Harris
Mary Evelyn Anderson White Harris, age 60, of Patterson Georgia passed away Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross.
Mrs. Harris, a native of Coffee County, Georgia was born December 12, 1945, daughter of the late Tillman and Opal Minix Anderson. She was a Homemaker and of the Holiness Baptist Faith.
Survivors include: husband, Robert Paul Harris, Patterson; son, Tim (Rhonda) White, Douglas; step-children, Robin Turner, Statesboro, Paul Harris, Patterson; brothers, J. T. Anderson, Douglas, and Donnie (Brenda) Anderson, also of Douglas; grandchild, Justine Ashley White, Douglas.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 24, 2006, at Sims Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Stone, the Rev. Marshall Adcock and the Rev. Monroe Gill officiating.
The Kirkland Family sang, “Wish You Were Here”, “Meet You In The Morning”, “Trail Of Tears” and “Long, Long Journey” with Lois Mills, pianist.
Burial followed in the Douglas City Cemetery. Active pallbearers: Brantley Anderson, Homer Minix, Ronnie Anderson, David Anderson, Wayne Carver, J. D. White, Gerald Carver and Mark Anderson. Honorary pallbearers were: Freda Johns, Betty Dowling, Gina Crawford, Rev. Floyd Musgrove, and Douglas Fire Department Staff.

Woodrow W. Bennett
Mr. Woodrow W. Bennett age 87 of Offerman died Monday morning at the Bacon County Hospital following an extended illness. He was a native and lifelong resident of Pierce County. He was preceded in death by his parents Steve Lee Bennett and Smithy Williamson Bennett.
Mr. Bennett was a retired Construction superintendent for Oceanic Construction Co.
He had the privilege of serving as the Superintendent for the construction of the Pierce County Hospital as well as the remodeling of the Pierce County Court House many years ago.
He was a longtime member of Offerman Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and a former Sunday School Teacher. He had also served on the Building Committee for the church as well.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Dorothy T. Bennett of Offerman, three sons Neil C. Bennett (wife Bunny), Douglas W. Bennett (wife Sandy), all of Woodstock, and Steve Bennett of Darien; five daughters, Elizabeth “Sister” Hill (husband Victor), of Lafayette, LA, Rebecca Annis (husband Alfred) of Reidsville, Montine Cheeks (husband Danny) of McDonough, Linda Paladino (husband Jim) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL., Kathy Calhoun (husband Lamar) of Brunswick and an adopted daughter Lisa K. Stueben of Lafayette, LA; ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two sisters Laura Kicklighter of Blackshear and Jackie Sirmans of Waycross, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Offerman Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Offerman Cemetery. The family will receive friends (tonight, May 3) Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 at Smith Funeral Home.

James J. Murdock Jr.
James J. Murdock Jr., 76, of 1301 Riverside Avenue in Waycross, died early Sunday morning, April 16, 2006 at Pinnacle Nursing Home in Berwyn, Illinois.
He was born April 10, 1930, as the son of the late James and Ida Murdock. He was educated at the New Hope School in Blackshear. He joined the First Born Church of the Living God at an early age.
He later married
Bernice Daniels of Patterson and moved his membership to St. James Baptist Church (The Ridge) in Patterson. Years later, he moved his membership to First African Missionary Baptist Church in Screven.
He retired from Gold Kist Pecan Company in 1992, following 30 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Daniels; two sons, Pastor Mark (Pastor Almetra) Murdock, Newburgh, NY and Kevin Smith, Yulee, FL; one daughter, Stephanie Daniels, Waycross; three step-sons, Connal Denson, Austell, Kenneth (Suzie) Daniels and Jeffrey (Sherri) Daniels, both of Waycross; one sister, Doris Nelson, Waycross; a devoted mother-in-law, Lillian Daniels, Patterson; seven step-children by his late wife Annie Mae Hill, Freddie Hill and Jinamy Hill, both of Waycross, Pastor Cornelius Hill, East Orange, NJ, Mrs. Charlie Mae (Elijah) Paige, Douglasville, Jeanette (J.D.) Williams, St. Petersburg, FL and the Rev. Maxine James and Julie Hill, both of Norwalk, CT; a brother-in-law, Charles (Mattie) Daniels, Blackshear; two sisters-in-law, Earlene Jacobs and Marion Daniels, both of Patterson; 31 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, from the St. James Missionary Baptist Church (the Ridge) near Patterson with Pastor Thomas Smith presiding.

Helen E. Purvis
Helen E. Purvis of Fernandina Beach, FL, passed away Monday, April 17, 2006, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was retired from University Hospital (Shands), Jacksonville, where she worked for more than 30 years as an OR Tech. She was a faithful member of Nassau Baptist Temple since New Year’s Eve, 1972, when she received God’s salvation.
She will be remembered by all who knew her because of her love for others and the testimony she lived. She enjoyed doing any activity that involved her church, the choir and the school.
Survivors include her children Carrol Marvin “Chuck” (Deidre) Kelley, Anita Kelley (Richard) Bunkley, Lori St. John (Glenn) Barnes and James Rodney (Robin) Purvis; her grandchildren, Gary W. Dean, Casey M. Dean, Erin M. Bunkley, R. Derek Bunkley, David W. Bunkley, Sarah E. Bunkley, Lisa J. Manning, C. Riley Thompkins, Charles G. Barnes, Shawn A. Barnes; several great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Suzanne Wainright and special family friends, Dr. Dennis (Boss), Telly, Mattie, Sheila and Mabel.
Homegoing services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 20, from the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Montgomery leading the celebration of her life.
An additional service was held at 6 p.m. that evening from the Nassau Baptist Temple with Bro. Truman Blankenship presiding.
