Infant Joshua Thomas Moseley
Infant Joshua Thomas Moseley, son of Amber Leverett and Josh Moseley of Waycross died Saturday night, April 1, 2006, at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross.
He was preceded in death by maternal great-grandfathers, Burie Griffin and Claude Aldridge and paternal great-grandparents, Thomas Moseley, Sr. and Irene Moseley.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Judy McDonald (husband Calvin), Shiloh; maternal grandfather, Tony Leverett, Blackshear; paternal grandparents, Tommy and Shirley Moseley, Blackshear, maternal great-grandparents, Molly Aldridge, Brantley County, Mildred Griffin, Blackshear, Earl and Jan Leverett, Jesup and Annette Davis, Waycross; maternal great-great-grandmother, Ruth Simmons, Waycross, paternal great-grandparents, Donald and Eldys Dixon, Blackshear, paternal great-grandmother, Maude Moseley, Blackshear and several great aunts, uncles and other relatives.
Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. (today) Wednesday, April 2, from the Greenlawn cemetery in Ware County.

James Calhoun ‘Jimmie’ Martin
James Calhoun “Jimmie” Martin, 82, of Patterson passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center.
Born in Broward County, FL, he had lived in Pierce County for most of his life. He was retired from Rayonier where he had worked for 43 years. He had played baseball while attending South Georgia College and had also played for the semi-pro team, the Douglas Trojans. He had worked as an MP with the US Air Force while stationed in Europe during the 1940s and was a member of the Patterson Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was in the Men’s Bible Class. He had been a very active member of the Patterson Lions Club but had also enjoyed fishing and watching baseball and football on television. He was a son of the late Joe and Martha Thomas Martin and was also preceded in death by a sister, Maude Sue DuBois and by his brother, Tommy Martin.
Survivors are his loving wife of 32 years, Betty W. Martin, Patterson; three children, Bill Walker of Patterson, Melinda and Richard Griffis, Brunswick and their two children, Daniel Griffis and Angel Griffis (fiancee’ Ken Tittle) and E. Lawton and Sheila Walker, Waycross and their two children, Jake Walker and Caroline Walker; three sisters, Virginia Lee (Martin) Jones and Martha “Tiny” (J.P.) Barnard, all of Patterson and Laurie W. Yeomans of Jesup and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Martin were held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 7, from the Patterson Baptist Church.

Wilbert William Sloan
Wilbert William Sloan, 77, of Blackshear, passed away Wednesday morning, April 5, 2006, at the Pierce County Nursing Home.
Born in Brantley County, he had lived in Pierce County for most of his life. He was a retired mechanic for Pierce Timber where he had worked for many years and was a son of the late Roma and Ivory Taylor Sloan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Griffis Sloan; a brother, Hubert Sloan, and a step-son, John M. Groover.
Survivors are five daughters, JoAnn Jones, Teresa Emmons, Elwanda (Roy) Melton and Velma (Julio) Sosa, all of Blackshear and Sue (George) Berry, Dadeville, AL; two sons, Lloyd Groover, Blackshear and Jed (Terri) Sloan, Mershon; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 8, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel.

Elsie Jenkins
Elsie Jenkins, 62, died Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Waycross Health and Rehabilitation following an extended illness.
A native of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, she relocated to Waycross, in 1977. She was the daughter of the late Alexander Young Sr. and Elberta Johnson Young. One sister. Emma Young and one brother, Alexander Young, Jr. also preceeded her in death.
She was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Ministry and Sunday School. She was employed at Pizza Hut for years, and was affectionately known as “Ms. Elsie.”
The legacy of her life lives on in the cherished memories of her beloved sons Willie Jenkins and Darrin Jenkins, both of Thomasville; one sister, Nettie “Ms. Net” Williams, and one brother, Vonnell Young, both of Waycross; four aunts Leola Jackson, New York; Agnes Wade and Jewell Lewis, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and Nola Mae Lander, Waycross; two uncles Russell (Pat) Lewis, Cairo, and George (Katie) Lewis, Tallahassee, FL; one sister-in-law Emma Young, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; four nieces Kersaundra Young, Atlanta, Regina Young and Kimberly Young, both of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Lisa Fisher, Thomasville; three nephews Vonnell Young Jr., and Marc Young, Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Ramon Williams, Waycross; one grandson, Jabarus Jenkins, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; a special cousin, Lovetta Thomas, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two god-sisters Ruth Pekins, Waycross, and Daphine Wright, Pompano, FL.

Christopher Jake Sauls
Christopher Jake Sauls, 16, of Blackshear died suddenly Monday evening, March 27, 2006, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Brantley County.
He was born in Ware County but had lived all of his life in Pierce County. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Earl and Eunice Sauls and by an uncle, Kent Martin.
Jake was a sophomore at Ware County High School where he was involved in FBLA and the Rifle Team. He had attended school in Pierce County until transferring to Ware County this year.
He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and also attended the youth group and worked with the children at Freedom Community Church in Waycross.
He worked part-time as a waiter at Shoney’s in Waycross.
Survivors include his parents Bobby and Terri Sauls, Blackshear; a brother, Dusty Sauls and a sister, Ashley Sauls, both of Blackshear; his grandparents, Max and Ruby Martin, Eddyville, KY; a niece, Krista Sauls, Blackshear; an uncle, Buddy Sauls, Lakeland, FL and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 30, from Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Kathleen Meeks Lenhardt
Kathleen Meeks Lenhardt, 73, of Panama City, FL, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2006, in Panama City.
Born on July 6, 1932 in Blackshear, she was a graduate of Blackshear High School and Valdosta State College in Valdosta. She had moved to Bay County, FL in 1965 to work for the United States Air Force as an executive secretary at the Tyndall Air Force Base. Her career spanned the globe from Moody Air Force Base, Valdosta, USAFE Ramstein AFB and Bitberg AFB, Germany, and back to Tyndall until her retirement. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Panama City, FL. She was a daughter of the late W. H. Jr. and Kathleen Moore Meeks.
Survivors include her son, Michael J. Lenhardt (Eileen), Boca Raton, FL; granddaughters, Linda L. Lenhardt, Boca Raton, FL, Lucy L. Lenhardt, Orlando, FL and Samantha K. Lenhardt, Boca Raton, FL; her brother, William H. Meeks III, Fort Lauderdale, FL; nieces, Julie M. Davis (Scott), Atlanta, and Gennifer C. Jett (Richard), Jacksonville, FL; nephew, William H. Meeks IV (Brenda), Winter Park, FL; and first cousins, Lillian W. Brown, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Diane M. Davis, Blackshear, Marilyn M. Alton, Blackshear, and John Harold Cox, Marietta.

Becky Latrell Weathers
Becky Latrell Weathers, 43, of Blackshear died suddenly Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at her residence.
She was a native of Pierce County, but had lived many years in South Carolina before moving back to Blackshear in 2003. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Earl Weathers and Latrell Robinson Weathers.
She was employed with United Egg of Blackshear.
Survivors include her two sisters, Darlene Sweat (husband Marvin), Hortense and Violet Weathers, Blackshear; a brother, Kenny Weathers, Blackshear and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 2, from the Offerman Church of God.

Olive Marlene Thornton Gardner
Olive Marlene Thornton Gardner, 93, passed away early Thursday morning, March 30, 2006, at her residence.
A native of Pierce County, she had lived in Salt Lake City, UT for many years before moving back to Pierce County in 1995. She was a retired nurse in which she was the first Public Health Nurse for Pierce County. She had also worked as a nursing home consultant for the state of Utah for over 20 years along with volunteering for the Nursing Association in Salt Lake. She had also been a volunteer for the American Bible Society for over 20 years and had been a member of the Women’s Business & Professional Club in Salt Lake. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Blackshear, where she was in the Alathean Sunday School Class and was a daughter of the late Seward Lott and Mae Clare Westberry Thornton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Slaton Gardner, who passed away in 1980, a great-grandson and five brothers.
Survivors are a daughter, Audrey Hooper, Blackshear; a sister, Evelyn Guy, Blackshear; two brothers, Cooper Thornton, Bristol and Hillard Thornton, Waycross; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 2, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Bill Young officiating.

William ‘Bill’ Gordon Brantley Sims
William “Bill” Gordon Brantley Sims, 67, Harrodsburg, KY, died Sunday, March 26, 2006 at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore. He was born in Jacksonville, FL and was the son of the late Claude Eugene and Mary Elizabeth Brantley Sims. He was the former owner and operator of Thoroughbred Helicopter Service and formerly owned and operated Sims Mid-Lake Marina for 17 years. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Carol L. Reed Sims; son, Gregory (Betty) Sims; daughter, Melissa (David) Ramey; five grandchildren; two grandsons, Tyler and Travis Sims; three granddaughters, Hailey, Ellie, and Kylie Ramey; and a sister, Susie (Riley) Dixon.
A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, from the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road with Bro. Don Frye officiating.

Pearlie Swindle
Pearlie Swindle, 86, of Radio Station Road, Alma, died Saturday, April 1, 2006 at her residence after a short illness.
A native of Coffee Co., she had lived in Alma since 1947. She was a daughter of the late Edward D. Taylor and Nancy Nettles Taylor and wife of the late James Alvin Swindle. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, J. C. and Richard Taylor. She was owner and operator of Pineview Florist for many years and a charter member of the Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy (Juanita) Swindle, Byron; two daughters, Vonice (Bobby) Stewart, Alma and Sherry (Ralph) Aycock, Baxley; a brother, Trenton Taylor, Orange Park, FL; three sisters, Alma Chaney and Addie Crews, both of Blackshear and Valree Miller, Savannah; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 2, from the Church of the Nazarene in Alma with the Rev. Mark Barth officiating and a personal eulogy by grandson Barry Swindle.
Active pallbearers were grandsons, Barry, Bart and Steve Swindle, Rocky Franz, Aaron Robles, Wayne Varnadore, Keith, Kevin and Ken Wade.
