Services for Robert L. Kates of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 24 at The Association Center with interment in Pine Acres Cemetery.
The Rev. Kenneth Kates officiated.
Kates, 80, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005 at his residence. He was the son of the late Richard and Mandy Kates and was the widower of Sarah McMillian Kates.
He was a native of Wheeler County.
Survivors include five daughters, Jessie (Theopolis), Doris and Porshia, all of McRae, Lynn of Jonesboro and Edwanter of Dallas, Texas; five sons, James (Felicia) of Ellenwood, Roy of Hinesville, Alvin and Nate of McRae and James of Lyons; sister, Marie Cray of Hazlehurst; brother, Raymond Kates of Dublin; 33 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

John (Johnny) Moody Kelly Jr.
Services for John (Johnny) Kelly Jr. of McRae were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1 at McRae First Baptist Church with interment in Oakgrove Cemetery in McRae.
Dr. William Connell officiated.
Kelly, 68, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005 following a lengthy illness. He was the son of the late John Moody Kelly Sr. and Uldene McDuffie Kelly and was married to Linda Kelly of McRae. He was preceded in death by first wife, Ruth Neal Kelly.
A lifelong resident of Telfair County, he is remembered by many as the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop #526. He was a member of the McRae First Church where he served as deacon and was retired from the United States Postal Service.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his sons, Mike (Lisa) Kelly and Tim (Amanda) Kelly, both of Dublin; sister, Aloe (Kenneth) Boswell of Albany; and grandchildren, Alex Kelly, Jon-Ford Kelly, Melissa Kelly, Caleb Ivey, Sean Kelly and Sarah Kelly, all of Dublin; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Blanche Doughard Belcher
Services for Blanche Doughard Marshall Belcher of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14 in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with interment in the Helena Cemetery.
Belcher, 53, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006. She was the daughter of the late Hubert Marshall and Gladys Marshall of McRae. She was preceded in death by sister, Carolyn Cravey and brother, John Wayne Marshall. She was married to Jerry Belcher of McRae.
Formerly of Pikeville, Ky., she was a native of Superior, Ariz. A homemaker, she was a member of the Church of Christ in Pikeville, Ky., and attended the Helena Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband and mother, survivors include her sons, Bobby Belcher of Lebanon, Tenn., Ralph Belcher of Georgetown, Ky. and James Belcher of McRae; daughter, Aileen Belcher of McRae; brothers, Roger Marshall of Apache Junction, Ariz. and Larry Marshall of Faulen, Nev.; nine grandchildren and 22 nieces and nephews.

Roy Ralph Howard
Services for Roy Ralph Howard of Helena were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14 at the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment at New Bethel Church Cemetery.
The Rev. Benny Moore officiated.
Howard, 52, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. He was the son of Lee Roy Howard and Mozell Smith of Helena.
He was retired from the U.S. Army.
In addition to his mother, survivors include a brother, Charlie (Harvelyn) Howard of Helena; sister, Elizabeth Cannon of Helena and several nieces and nephews.

Clarence McDuffie
Services for Clarence McDuffie of Warner Robins were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment following in Parkway Memorial Gardens.
McDuffie, 83, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006. He was the son of the late Ross McDuffie and the late Mattie Ola Bowen. He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred McDuffie. He was married to Ada Lee Butler McDuffie of Warner Robins.
Born in Telfair County, he was a member of Second Baptist Church and the Fishers of Men Sunday School class. He was retired from Armstrong Work Industries after 37 years of service. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the bronze star for heroic acts and meritorious valor.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his sons, Craig (Regina) McDuffie and Gary (Karen) McDuffie, both of Warner Robins; sister, Linda (Roy) Prescott, Hepzibah; grandchildren, Lance McDuffie, Chase McDuffie, Brett McDuffie and Emily McDuffie.

W.C. Mincey
Services for W.C. Mincey of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at The Association Center in McRae.

Mincey, 82, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 at Telfair Regional Hospital in McRae. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie Mae McKinnon Mincey.
Born in Laurens County, he was the son of the late Ben Mincey and the late Beulah Green Mincey. He was retired.
Survivors include daughters, Carrie Mincey of Morristown, N.J., Willene Mincey of McRae, Lillie Kemp of Decatur, Bernice Roots of Rochester, N.Y., and Joann Adams of McRae; sons, William Mincey of Morristown, N.J., Preston Mincey of Riverdale, Oliver Mincey of Decatur, Rufus Mincey of Snellville, Alvin Mincey of Jonesboro, Calvin Mincey of College Park, and Jimmie Mincey of Morristown, N.J.; daughters-in-law, Jacqueline, Debra, Christine, Loree and Jestine Mincey; sister, Gladys Mincey of Milan; brothers, Clinton Mincey of Milan and John L. Mincey of Dublin; sisters-in-law, Rosa Upshaw, Ruthie Mincey, Geralene Mincey, Bulah Allen and Ella Studstill; 33 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Harry Whitaker
Graveside services for Harry Whitaker of McRae were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at Graham’s Cemetery in Jacksonville.
Whitaker, 50, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006 at his residence in McRae.
Born in Chicago, Ill. he was the son of Iris Whitaker and the late Ealey Whitaker. He was disabled.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by aunts, Louise Kimbrough of McRae, Dorothy Simpkins of Miami, Fla., and Lola Wilcox of Jacksonville; uncles, Emory Wilcox of Jonesboro, Ernest (Kathy) Wilcox of Jakin, Ga., and John Wilcox of Jacksonville; and a host of cousins, friends, and other relatives.

Edward Clemons Batchelor
Services for Edward Clemons Batchelor of Helena will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment at Telfair Memorial Gardens.

Batchelor, 61, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006 at his residence in Helena.
He was the son of Mollie Sue Cook Batchelor and the late Luther Edward Batchelor of Telfair County.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and had retired from the Baxter Health Care as a Distribution Manager. He returned to Telfair County after retirement.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his children, Keith Batchelor of Covington, Paula Batchelor of Forest Park and Amanda Batchelor of Stockbridge; and one grandson, Justin Batchelor of Holbrook, N.Y.

Frances Hobdy Browning
Graveside services for Frances Hobdy Browning of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5 in the Oakgrove Cemetery in McRae.
Browning, 96, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006. She was the daughter of the late Edmund and Rachel Marshall Hobdy. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Browning and a son, Gerald H. Browning.
A native of Monroeville, Ala., she was a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Charles (Ann) Browning of Birmingham, Ala.; daughters, Billie Ruth Peace of Midway, Frances (Harold) Thomas of Ringgold and Marguerite Weatherly of Americus; daughter-in-law, Patsy Browning of Wetumpka, Ala.; sister, Neola Hutto of Clara, Miss.; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Alton Eugene (Joe) Campbell III
Services for Alton Eugene (Joe) Campbell III were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 at Faith Baptist Church in McRae with interment at Blockhouse Baptist Church Cemetery.

Campbell, 81, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006 at McRae Manor Nursing Home in McRae. He was the son of the late Alton Eugene Campbell Jr. and Nancy Wolfe Campbell of Auburndale, Fla. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Jane Lesnett of Inverness, Fla.
Born in Auburndale, Fla., he had lived in Telfair County for the past 25 years. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church of McRae and was a U.S. Army Corp veteran who served in Italy during World War II. He was a past Master of Masonic Lodge 91 in Lakeland, Fla. and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was retired from the chemical supply business.
Survivors include four children, Alton E. (Erika) Campbell IV of Colorado Springs, Colo., Teresa E. Campbell (Bobby Reynolds) of Helena, David R. (Barbara) Hursey of Orlando, Fla., and John Hursey of Jacksonville, Ga.; three grandchildren, Joshua, Jason and Courtney Campbell of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Margaret “Molly” (Wes) Maxson of DeBary, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.
