Charles Nevin Briscoe
Charles Nevin Briscoe, 81, of Blackshear, passed away Sunday morning, April 2, 2006, at Satilla Regional Medical Center.
A native of Fulton County, he was reared in Between, but had lived in Pierce County since 1954. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and worked as a school principal in Fargo for several years before working for the Brantley Company for 25 years in which he later served as the company’s president. During World War II he worked as a radio operator on B17s out of Italy. He also founded the South Eastern Pomegranate Association and was a member of the Blackshear Presbyterian Church. He was a son of the late J. E. Sr. and Myrtle Edwards Briscoe and was also preceded in death by his wife, Harriotte Brantley; his sister, Dorothy Evans and his brother, J. E. Briscoe Jr.
Survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Janet Ann “Jann” Briscoe and R. Page Shelton, St. Simons Island; a grandson, John (Julia) Shelton, Augusta; two great-grandchildren, Finn Shelton and Morgan Shelton; four nieces and nephews, Laura Evans, Cordova, TN, Dotsy Evans, Boston, MA, Bob Evans, Studio City, CA and Jack Dyal Briscoe, Monroe and several other relatives.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. this morning (Wednesday, April 5) from the Blackshear Presbyterian Church.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Timples Na’kiesha Martin
Timples Na’kiesha Martin, 18, of Waycross, departed this life suddenly Sunday evening, March 19, 2006, from injuries sustained in a car accident in Waycross.
She was born September 5, 1987 in Gainesville, Hall County, to Myra Young and James Earl Martin. She was a member of the Last Day Ministry Church, where she was an active member of the choir. She was a junior at Ware County High School.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving mother, Myra Lee Young, Waycross; her loving father, James Earl Martin, Atlanta; two brothers, Shun Young, Marietta and Jerone Martin, Waycross; two sisters, Patricia Young, Marietta and Nikki Martin, Waycross; grandparents, Lois Chislom, Marietta and Overa Martin, Alma; godmother, Ariane Atkins, Vidalia; five god-sisters, Cancra Keeley, Octavia Owens and Auteony Burse, all of Waycross, Tiffany Williams, Homerville and Theoundria Taite, Atlanta; two very close friends, Audrey Dinkins of Virginia and Latori Wright, Alma and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and sorrowing friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, from the New Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Waycross with the Rev. Roderald Carter, pastor and Pastor Linda Swift of the Last Day Ministry Church, as the eulogist.

Bernice Tyre Brannen
Bernice Tyre Brannen, 92, of Brunswick, died early Sunday morning, March 19, 2006, at her residence, following an extended illness.
A native of Appling County, she had lived in Glynn County for 58 years. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Brunswick Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Roger Dale Brannen.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Joe Coady “J.C.” Brannen, Brunswick; three daughters and sons-in-law, Melba and James Rentz, Baxley, Bonnie and Robert McConnel and Judy and Kenneth Gilenwater, all of Martinsville, IN; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, from the Brunswick Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Craig DeLoach officiating.

Melissa Pauline Winn Hall
Melissa Pauline Winn Hall, 87, of Fernandina Beach, FL, passed away Wednesday evening, March 22, 2006, at Baptist Medical Center in Fernandina Beach.
A native of Pierce County, she had lived most of her life here before moving to Fernandina six years ago. She had been a seamstress working for Alma Sportswear and later for Lee Manufacturing. In addition to her excellent seamstress work, she also loved to garden, giving extra special care to her roses. She will also be remembered for her love of her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Offerman Baptist Church and was a daughter of the late Jimmie Lee and Matha Ella Hyers Winn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joel Wilford Hall, Sr., two sons, Joel W. “Joey” Hall, Jr and Donald Hall; four sisters and six brothers.
Survivors are a daughter, Pawnee Hall, Fernandina Beach; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Sue Hall, Patterson; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Shemwell, Fernandina Beach; five sisters, Verdell Walker, Waycross, Euthema Bennett and Melba “Meb” Boatright, both of Bristol and Carol Bennett and Sybil Harrison, both of Blackshear; 10 grandchildren, Teresa (Wayne) Pittman, Jeffery (Jamie) Hall, Angie (Davey) Davis, Helen Combee, Paul (Faith) Hall Jr., Dana Hall, Christie (Dewayne) Durr, Mistie (Ron) Lynn, John D. Hall Jr. and Melissa (Nicholas) Taylor; 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, from the Offerman Baptist Church.

Wilbur Norman
Wilbur Norman, 56, of St. Cloud, FL, passed away Thursday March 23, 2006 at Osceola Regional Medical Center.
A native of Screven, he moved to St. Cloud with his family in 1984 from Miami. He was an aircraft mechanic for United Parcel Service. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his loving family, wife, Wanda J. Norman; daughters, Tressa Germond (Chris), Kissimmee, FL Stephanie Norman, St. Cloud, FL, son, Joe Norman, Winter Park, FL, father, James W. Norman, Miami, FL, sister, Linda Taylor (Larry), Homestead, FL, brother, Bill Norman (Carol), Smyrna, granddaughter, Devyn Eloise Germond and a future grandchild on the way.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 1, from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dick Mangham officiating.
Entombment will follow in Osceola Memory Gardens cemetery in Kissimmee, FL, with full military honors provided by the Osceola County Veterans Council.

Christopher Jake Sauls
Christopher Jake Sauls, 16, of Blackshear died suddenly Monday evening, March 27, 2006, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Brantley County.
He is the son of Bobby and Terri Sauls of Blackshear and a sophomore at Ware County High School.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Smith Funeral Home in Blackshear.
Prentis Medlock Sr.
Deacon Prentis Medlock Sr., 82, Nahunta, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at Pierce County Nursing Home in Blackshear.
He was born August 4, 1924 in Glennville to the late Rev. Robert and Bertha Medlock. He was retired from the railroad as a lineman.
He was united in marriage to the late Frankie Mae Young and they had nine children, two of which preceded them in death.
He joined Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Nahunta under the leadership of the Rev. C. Taylor Sr., where he became a faithful member and deacon.
Survivors include eight children, Willie D. Cooper, Miami, FL, Deacon Prentis (Roberta) Medlock Jr., Waycross, Helen (Wardell) Johnson, Patterson, NJ, Katie (Isaac) Rountree, Nahunta, Nell (James) Teague, Waycross, Jerry (Gail) Medlock, Brunswick, Estella (Archie) White, Nahunta and Alfreda Roberts, Waycross; a sister, Georgia Pearl Graham, Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, James (Florence) Medlock, Nahunta, Ernest (Ernestine) Medlock, Albany and Robert L. (Liz) Medlock, Fort Lauderdale, FL; one sister-in-law, Charity Moore, Brunswick; two brothers-in-law, Virgil Young, Brunswick and Daniel Hannon, Folkston; a large number of grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
A homegoing celebration was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, from the Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Nahunta with the Rev. W.F. Mobley, pastor and the Rev. Bruce Rountree eulogy.
Solos were rendered by Viola Peterson, Nell Walker and Willie White.

Murriel Howard Hallman
Murriel Howard Hallman, 85, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday morning, March 14, 2006, at her residence.
A native and life-long resident of Pierce County, she and her late husband, Julian O’Neal Hallman Jr., owned and operated Hallman’s Apiaries. She had also been a wonderful cook and homemaker. She was a member of the Mershon Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class but had also served in many areas of leadership within the church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was proud to be called “mom” by many who knew her. She was a daughter of the late Aaron Christopher and Nora Riggins Howard and was also preceded in death by her six sisters and five brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Hallman, Blackshear; two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and Shirley Hallman, Savannah and Ronald and Elizabeth Hallman, Claxton; a sister-in-law, Myrtice Howard, Brantley Co.; seven grandchildren, Renee (Mike) Branan, Barbara (Eddie) Pochet, John Waters, and Angelia (Beal) Crawford, all of Savannah, John (Shelley) Hallman, Bloomingdale, Jake Hallman, Statesboro and Ben Hallman, Claxton; six great-grandchildren, Zachary Pochet, Bailey Crawford, Megan Branan, Colin Crawford, Caroline Branan and Kaelyn Hallman and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 16, from the Mershon Baptist Church.

Georgia Alice Mattox Altman
Georgia Alice Mattox Altman, 63, of Shellman Bluff community of McIntosh County, Georgia, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, at her residence.
A native of Pierce County, she had been a resident of McIntosh County 20 years. She was a graduate of Blackshear High School and had a number of courses of continuing education with the State Department.
She was a social worker with the State of Georgia working with the mentally impaired and was associated with Hunters Café and Altman’s Restaurant. She was a member of Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Britt Altman, Shellman Bluff; a daughter, Kellie Chapman, Darien; a son, Carlos Altman, Brunswick; four sisters, Latrell Judkins, Middleburg, FL, Joyce Anderson, Marietta, Vickie Brigman, Blackshear, and Clovis Simmons, Clinton, SC; three brothers, Troy Mattox, Shelby Mattox, and Ricky Mattox, all of Blackshear, a grandson, several nieces and nephews.
A memorial funeral mass was held at 2 p. m. Wednesday, March 15, from the Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church with Father Cletus Pifher officiating.
The family suggest in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, Georgia 31525.

Timples Nakiesha Martin, 18, of Waycross, passed away Sunday evening, March 29, 2006, from injuries sustained in a car accident in Waycross.
She was a student at Ware County High School.
Immediate survivors include her mother, Myra Lee Young; her father, James Earl Martin; two sisters, Patricia Young and Nikki Martin; two brothers, Erron Meshun Young and Jerome Martin.
