Mage Matthew Aspinwall, 81, of Blackshear died Saturday morning, January 28, 2006, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL, following an extended illness.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Pierce County. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Aspinwall and Grace Emmanuel Aspinwall; a son, Bobby Aspinwall; daughter, Margie Sue Aspinwall and two grandchildren, Teresa Peacock and Andy King.
He was a retired carpenter and builder. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Ela Mae Aspinwall, Patterson; two daughters Shirley Peacock, Offerman and Barbara Morgan (husband Joe), Blackshear; eight grandchildren, Bev Chaney, St. Simons, Angie Herrin (husband Timmy), Blackshear, Barbee Smoot (husband Larry), Ft. Hood, TX, Pam Harrell (husband David), Blackshear, Timothy King (wife Peggy), Blackshear, Robert Aspinwall (wife Tricia), Blackshear, Tina Corbitt (husband Scott), Kingsland, and Kim Johnson (husband Anthony), Offerman, 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Laura Davis, Waycross, and Bertie Aspinwall, Patterson; a brother, Jack Aspinwall, Hawkinsville, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 30, from the chapel of Smith Funeral Home.

Effie Mae Hodges
Effie Mae Kirkland Hodges, 94, died early Monday morning, January 30, 2006, at the Pierce County Nursing Home following an extended illness.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Pierce County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Hodges and by her parents, John Kirkland and Kate Delk Kirkland.
She worked many years at the Pierce County Hospital as a nurse’s assistant and was a homemaker.
She was a longtime active member of Walkerville Baptist Church and had the honor of being the oldest living member of the church. She was also a former Sunday school teacher and pianist. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Pierce County Nursing Home.
Survivors include her four daughters Jackie Taylor (husband Wallace), Sylvania, Margie Duggan, Waycross, Linda Rhodes (husband Philip), Augusta and Ann Cason (husband Dan), Blackshear; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. (today) Wednesday, February 1, from the chapel of Smith Funeral Home.

The family requests that the Ladies Auxiliary from the Pierce County Nursing Home serve as honorary pallbearers and are asked to be at the funeral home by 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Pauline ‘Polly’ Ray Deal
Pauline “Polly” Ray Deal, 77, of Screven, died early Wednesday morning, January 18, 2006, at her residence following an extended illness.
A native of Wayne County, she was a member of the Lake Chapel Primitive Baptist Church and the Ladies Circle of the church. She was a retired paraprofessional and lunchroom manager from Screven Elementary School. She was the widow of Lowell C. Deal, and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Terry Deal.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Charles Harrell, Hazlehurst, Vicki and Edsel Lee, Bristol and Robin and Thomas Crosby, Waycross; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bob Deal, Screven and Randy and Janette Deal, Bristol; two sisters, Iwilda Williford, Savannah and Rosalind Deal, Bristol; three sisters-in-law, Nina Ray, Atlanta, Odile Ray, Milwaukee, WI and Rosalyn Deal, Waycross; 14 grandchildren, Becky and Berry Henderson, Holly and Shaun O’Quinn, John and Brandi Deal, Corey Deal, Brian and April Harrell, David Harrell, Charlie and Stephanie Harrell, Morgan and Alan Harper, Logan Lee, Dustin Lee, Angela Crosby, T.J. and Valerie Crosby, Courtney Crosby and Kenneth Crosby; four great-grandchildren, Sage Harper, Heath Henderson, Abby Henderson and John Conley (J.C.) O’Quinn and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 20, from the Lake Chapel Primitive Baptist Church with Bishop Terry Jones and Elder W.H. Durrence officiating. Gail Lewis gave the eulogy.

Harry DePratter
Harry DePratter, 76, of Hortense died suddenly Tuesday afternoon, January 17, 2006, in the Atkinson community of Brantley County from injuries he sustained in an auto accident.
A native and life-long resident of Brantley County, he was retired from the Teamster’s Union and had owned and operated the DePratter Garage and Wrecker Service for 25 years. At the time of his death, he was the maintenance supervisor for Paige’s Minit Markets. He was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church in Nahunta, where he had served as a deacon. He was a son of the late Ray and Vera Cleland DePratter and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Lewis DePratter; an infant son, Joseph Ray DePratter, and a niece, Laurie Crews Wham.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Sellers DePratter, Hortense; three sons and daughters-in-law, Lamar and Ann DePratter and Franklin and Hazel DePratter, all of Nahunta and Darrell and Reagan Dixon, Hortense; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Ralph McCarthy and Donna and David Adams, all of Hortense; a sister and brother-in-law, Alice Sue and Robert Crews, Woodbine; a brother and sister-in-law, Alton and Arlene DePratter, Brunswick; eight grandchildren, Brian DePratter, Marlan DePratter, Sheena Manibusan, Trent Knight, D. J. Dixon, Whitney Dixon, Lawton Dixon and Paul Adams; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 20, from the Southside Baptist Church.

Mike E. Minchew
Mike E. Minchew, 73, of Waycross died Friday afternoon, January 20, 2006, at the Baptist Village in Waycross, following an extended illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Ware County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob R. Minchew and Mary Carter Minchew and his brothers, Astor Minchew, Clifford Minchew, John Minchew and Lamar Minchew.
He was a retired farmer and realtor and was a longtime member of Haywood Baptist Church. He was a former mason and shriner and was a past winner of the Ware County Farmer of the Year award. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Gerry Minchew, Waycross; a son, Michael Minchew (wife Lori), Waycross; daughter, Teri Hardy (husband Jay), Sugar Hill; four grandchildren, Ashley and Jake Minchew, Waycross and Mark and Morgan Hardy, Sugar Hill; a sister, Vida Mae Smith, Sanford, FL; two brothers, Malcom Minchew (wife Jo), Jacksonville, FL, and Delman Minchew (wife Katy), Waycross, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Antonio Presley, 17, of 1306 Session Hill Road, Blackshear, died early Sunday morning, January 22, 2006, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup.
Friends may call at the home of his grandparents, Edward and Betty Sue Presley, 9 Shotgun Trail, Blackshear.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Jacobs Funeral Home of Blackshear.
Terry Monroe Aldridge
Terry Monroe Aldridge, 67, of Blackshear, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 21, 2006, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL following a sudden illness.
A native and life-long resident of Pierce County, he was a truck driver for Thom’s Transport and was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Monroe and Willie Mae Lewis Aldridge.
Survivors include his wife, Melba Rowland Aldridge, Blackshear; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Harrell Payne and Frances and Joseph Rowland, all of Blackshear and Angie and Ron Smith, Patterson; two sisters, Judy Aldridge, Fernandina Beach, FL and Ginger Aldridge, Sarasota, FL; seven grandchildren, Terry Payne, Phyllis Payne, Amanda Sauls, Jessica Guy, Kayla Huggins, Ryan Smith and Terry Smith; two great-grandchildren, James Sauls Jr. and Reese Payne and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorialization is by cremation.
The family will have a memorial service at a later date.

Geneva Willa Deen O’Berry
Geneva Willa Deen O’Berry, 71, of Waycross, passed away early Sunday morning, January 22, 2006, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
A native of Pierce County, she had lived in Ware County for the last 3 1/2 years. She was a housewife and was a member of Sweat Memorial Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Harvey Lee and Myrtice Ida Carter Deen and was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas “Tom” O’Berry, and a daughter, Diane Pritchett.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda Sinclair, Blackshear and Faye and Donnie Laughinghouse, Waycross; a sister, Gladys “Varrie” Lewis, Brunswick; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Eddie and Dlaine Deen, Hazlehurst and Jimmy and Evangeline Deen, Alabama; five grandchildren, Leslie Lastinger, Adam (Brandy) Hardee, Jamie (Amanda) Sinclair, Patrick (Donnette) Hardee and Michael Hendricks; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel.
Memorialization will be by cremation.

Rhoda Christine Johnson Roberts
Rhoda Christine Johnson Roberts, 55, of Waycross, passed away early Saturday morning, January 21, 2006, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
A native and life-long resident of Ware County, she had worked for Dr. J. T. Cooper as a health care technician for 20 years and was of the Baptist faith. She was a daughter of the late Calaway Sr. and Ruth Lecrecy Crews Johnson and was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Keith Wiggins.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Jason Brumback, Frankfort, KY, Sandy and Randy Connell, Yulee, Fl and Gina and Dominic King, Blackshear; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Patrick and Tammy Wiggins, Waycross; a sister, Betty Ruth Johnson, Waycross; four brothers, Walter (Barbra) Johnson, Charles “Dink” Johnson and Clarence “Jr.” (Brenda) Thomas, all of Waycross and Wayne Johnson, Charleston, SC; seven grandchildren, Brittney Wiggins, Kristen Wiggins, Jennifer Wiggins, Rebecca Connell, Coty Brumback, Kolby Connell and Whitney King and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, January 23, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel.

Charles Edward Davis
Charles Edward Davis, 62, of Blackshear, died suddenly Sunday morning, January 22, 2006, at his residence.
He was born in Ware County, and was the son of Johnny and Ruthie Mae Corbitt Davis. He worked for E.W. Merritt Construction Co. for 30 yrs. as a heavy equipment operator and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include five children, David E. Davis (Shelia), Blackshear, Robert Andrew “Andy” Davis (Kathy), Hoboken, Tara Littlejohn (John), Blackshear, Melissa Davis, Blackshear and Tina Lane (David), Jesup; 20 grandchildren; five sisters, Mary Lyons, Nahunta, Angeline Musgrove, Blackshear, Macie Tennison, Dixie Union, Ruth Lyons, Waycross and Jo Ann Lyons, Nichols; four brothers, Cecil Davis, Blackshear, Jasper Davis, Yulee, FL, Elmer Davis and Marvin Lyons, both of Waycross; his ex-wife, Carol McDowell, Brunswick and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Graveside funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, January 24, from the Jordan Church cemetery in Ware County with the Rev. R.B. Gaskins officiating.
Pallbearers were Jason Davis, Tony Davis, John Littlejohn, Donny Scott, Ronnie O’Berry and Bennie Herrin.
Arrangements were with Chambless-Frye Funeral Home of Nahunta.
