Georgia, U.S., Marriage Records From Select Counties, 1828-1978

James Pearson Sr.

James Pearson Sr., 44, of Alma died Monday afternoon, October 24, 2005, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was a native of Broward Co., FL, but had lived in this area since 1971.
Survivors include his wife, Delama Taylor Pearson, Alma; his parents, Lowell Pearson, Jr. and Dell (Tootsie) Dixon Pearson, Blackshear; three sons, James L. Pearson, Jr., Williamstown, KY, Jesse Pearson and Shaun N. Capps, both of Alma; one brother, Steven Pearson, Blackshear; one sister, Karen Mattox, Blackshear; one granddaughter, Nicole Capps, Alma and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 27, from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Howell and the Rev. Pet Hayes officiating.
Eulogy will be given by Randy Waters.
iIntermentfollowed in the Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Randy Waters, Marty Taylor, Mikell Lovell, Joey Walker, David Davis and Franklin Dixon.
Honorary pallbearers were employees of Boatright Trucking.
Crosby Funeral Home of Alma was in charge of all arrangements.

Danny Allen Fowler

Danny Allen Fowler, 52, died suddenly Wednesday morning, October 26, 2005, at his residence in Pierce County.
He was born in Frankfurt, Germany but had lived most of his life in Arizona before moving to Blackshear in 2001. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Fowler and a sister, Anna Fowler.
He was formerly employed with McDonald’s as a maintenance technician and was also formerly employed with Boeing in Washington State as a machinist.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Fowler, Blackshear; two sons, Tobey Fowler, Blackshear and Michael Fowler, Tucson, AZ; his parents, Arthur and Anna Fowler, Tucson, AZ and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorialization will be by cremation.
Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Herman N. Fennel

Herman N. Fennel, 73, of Jesup, died Monday, October 24, 2005, after an extended illness.
A native of Wayne Co., he was a member of Anderson Drive Baptist Church and was a 30 year retiree with the U. S. Army. He was a member of several organizations including Germany Blue Lodge, Germany Shrine Club, the Ben Gibbs Chapter #299 O.E.S. of Jesup, and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Iris Dixon Jones Fennel, Jesup, two sons and daughters-in-law, Joey and Elisha Fennel, Bristol and Rob and Leisa Fennel, Jesup; two step-daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Pat Patterson, Ubly, MI, Sandra Jones, Daytona Beach, FL; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Rickey and Cindy Jones, Blackshear; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Vonnie Moseley and Ray Taylor, Savannah, Gladys Nichols, Jacksonville, FL, Ovaleen Harrell, Hilda and Chuck Van Meter, Ruby and Jarrell Coffee, all of Jesup; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Marie Fennel, Gary and Etwendell Fennel, both of Jesup, Delmer and Helen Fennel, Brunswick; five grandchildren, Brianne, Hannah, Ridge, Michael, Lorabeth; five step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 27, from the Rinehart & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Brown officiating.
iIntermentfollowed in Pinecrest Memorial cemetery with full military honors.
Active pallbearers were Bo Lewis, Gary Patterson, Ridge Fennel, Ron Fennel, Larry Fennel and James Fennel.
Honorary pallbearers were the Heaven Bound Sunday School Class of Anderson Drive Baptist Church.
Rinehart & Sons Funeral Home of Jesup was in charge of arrangements.

Sylvester Beale

Sylvester Beale, 87, of Nahunta, died Friday, October 21, 2005, in the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup.
He was born March 3, 1918 in Reidsville to the late Shug Ashburn. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Inez.
He was retired from the pulpwood industry.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted cousin, Raymond Collins (Lillie M.), Nahunta; two additional cousins, Spencer Collins, Valdosta and Mary Lee Williams, Pembroke; several second cousins and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 27, from the Miracle First Born Church of God in Christ in Nahunta with the Rev. Stanley Evans, pastor and Apostle Johnny Lee Thomas, eulogist.
iIntermentfollowed in the Hoboken City Cemetery.
Rainge Memorial Chapel, Inc. of Blackshear was in charge of arrangements.

Magen Diane Chancey

Magen Diane Chancey, 9, of Blackshear, died Friday afternoon, October 28, 2005, at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born in Waycross but had lived all of her life in Blackshear.
She was a third grade student at Blackshear Elementary School and she attended Offerman Church of God.
Survivors include her parents, Riley and Regina Chancey, Blackshear; her sister, Malaena Chancey, Blackshear; grandparents, Riley and Diane Chancey, Blackshear and Victoria Rowland, Waycross; great-grandparents Austine Varnadore, Blackshear and Aubrey Willard, Jacksonville, FL, her aunts and uncles, Toby Chancey, , Blackshear, Ginny and Jake Wainwright, Nahunta, J.R. and Christy Moody, Blackshear, Jacquelyn Nipper, Waycross, Chris and Elizabeth Brown, Louisville, KY, and Matthew Nipper, Tallahassee, FL and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 31, from the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Lee officiating.

Averette Jereal ‘Dobbie’ Bennett Sr.

Averette Jereal (Dobbie) Bennett Sr., 79, of Bristol passed away Friday morning, October 28, 2005, at the Bacon County Hospital in Alma, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by loving family members and caring nurses.
A son of the late Randall Linton and Mary Hyers Bennett, he was born in Avon Park, FL, but had resided in Bristol for most of his life where he was engaged in farming. A former Blackshear Junior Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Young Farmer, he was also the 1972 Pierce County Chamber of Commerce Farmer of the Year. He attended Bristol Baptist Church. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eldred Bennett and a sister, Madese Davis.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Euthema Winn (Teamie) Bennett, Bristol; three sons, Jereal Bennett (wife June), Patterson, Jerry Bennett, Bristol and Reggie Bennett (wife Leticia), Bristol; three daughters, Jeanie Henderson (husband Miller), Bristol, Joyce Griffis (husband Mikell) of Patterson, and Jan Kimmons (husband Marshall) Mershon; three brothers, Edsel Bennett (wife Carol), Edward Bennett (wife Ann), and Phil Bennett (wife Shirley), all of Pierce County; two sisters, Wanna Lee Carnes (husband Sam) and Rebecca Wagner, all of Pierce Co.; 11 grandchildren, John Ratliff Jr., Julie Steedley (husband Van), Brett and Victoria Bennett, Jennifer Boyett (husband Jamie), Janna Griffis, Clay and Caitlyn Kimmons, Julie Ann, Ray, and Brent Bennett, all of Pierce County; and two great-grandchildren, Heron and Steede Steedley, all of Pierce County; and a special friend and neighbor Loran F. Tuten Sr. of Bristol and a host of other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 30, from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with the Rev. R. C. James and the Rev. Jackie Sinclair officiating.
iIntermentwill follow in the Mershon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Bacon County Hospital (Building Fund).
Active pallbearers were John Ratliff Jr., Clay Kimmons, Brett Bennett, Jarrett Wagner, Orin Bennett, Phillip Bennett and Randy Bennett.

Jerry Lee Hill

Jerry Lee Hill, 49, of Patterson, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2005, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Pierce County, he owned and operated the J. H. Logging Company but had also been a partner with Satilla Logging Company and the HMT Company. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and served as a councilman for the City of Patterson. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Emmitt Hill, and his mother-n-law, Lois W. Pearson.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Sue Pearson Hill, Patterson; a daughter, Brenna Hill, Patterson; a son, Blane Hill and his girlfriend, Brandi Balback, both of Patterson; his mother, Inez Hill, Patterson; a sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Paul Hall, Patterson; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Shirley Hill, Waycross and Larry and Linda Hill and Randy and Debbie Hill, all of Patterson; a special child, Jonathon Simmons, Blackshear; his two pet dogs, Pooh and Little Ann, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. (today) Wednesday, November 2, from the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

All employees of Pierce Timber and their affiliates are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet at the church by 1:30 p.m.Wednesday.

Thelma Loraine Hall Thornton

Thelma Loraine Hall Thornton, 78, of Patterson, passed away late Sunday evening, October 30, 2005, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross.
A native of Colquitt County, she had lived in Pierce County for most of her life. She was a housewife and was a member of the Offerman Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late John R. and Pauline Proctor Hall and was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Abigail Lynn Cason; two sisters, Martha Jane Sweat and Dorothy Jean Howard, and by a brother, John Hall.
Survivors are her husband, James D. Thornton of Patterson; a daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Truman Cason, Patterson; three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Cynthia Thornton and Robert and Jean Thornton, all of Patterson and Russell and Suzy Thornton, Blackshear; two sisters, Bertha Mae (David) Steedly, Blackshear and Laverne Adkins, Montgomery, AL; two brothers, Lavaughn and Geneva Hall, Blackshear and Joe Hall, Texas; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. (today) Wednesday morning, November 2, from the Offerman Baptist Church.

Members of the Faith Sunday School Class at Offerman Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers.

Priscilla ‘Cilla’ Fay Spivey

Priscilla “Cilla” Fay Spivey, 26, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2005, at her residence.
She was a native of Jacksonville, FL, but had lived in Blackshear for a brief time. She was employed as a customer service representative at AOL.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Fay Mullaly and her paternal grandparents, Charlie Roberson Spivey and Georgeann Spivey.
Survivors include her parents, Bobby and Esther Spivey, Jacksonville, FL; her daughter, Kiara Nicole Merine, Jacksonville, FL; one brother, Bobby Marcus Spivey, Jr., Jacksonville, FL; her maternal grandfather, the Rev. Harold Mullaly, Blackshear and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, from the North Jacksonville Chapel of Peeples Funeral Homes with the Rev. Steve Martin and the Rev. Bobby Mullaly officiating.
