Tommy Jackson Lee
Tommy Jackson Lee, 60, of Blackshear died early Wednesday morning, October 5, 2005, at his sister’s residence in Blackshear after a brief illness.
He was a native of Brantley County but had lived most of his life in Pierce County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah Lee and Lizzie Dowling Lee and by two brothers-in-law, Donald James and Eugene Groover.
He was retired from Dixie Road Builders, where he worked in the construction department. He was a member of Hacklebarney Baptist Church.
Survivors include five sisters, Louise James and Wynelle Groover, both of Blackshear, Glenda Inman (husband D.W.), Valdosta, Helen Burney (husband James) and Patricia Mejia (husband Luis), all of Blackshear; five brothers Raynell Lee (wife Bernice), Brunswick, Arland Lee (wife Vernell), Waycross, Hayden Lee (wife Glenda), Hortense, Gary Lee and Darrell Lee (wife Teresa), all of Blackshear; special friends Ma and Pa Allen and Laura Owens, all of Blackshear, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 8, from the chapel of Smith Funeral Home.

Ander Mauldin Chancey
Ander Mauldin Chancey, 91, of Patterson, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2005, at his residence.
A native and life-long resident of Pierce County, he was a retired mechanic and had owned and operated the Chancey Service Station in Patterson for many years. He was the oldest male member of the Offerman Baptist Church where he had been a deacon for forty years. He was a member of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class and the Masonic Lodge. He was a son of the late Joseph Levy and Mary E. Lillian Walker Chancey and was also preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Dorothy Adeline Johnson Chancey, who passed away in 2002 and by his son, Lyndell Chancey, who passed away in 2004. He will be remembered for his love of his family, church and friends and also for his love of witnessing to people about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Faye and Lowell King, Starke, FL, Charlotte and Travis Thrift, Blackshear and Anita Chancey, Offerman; a sister, Jeanette Long, Douglas; five grandchildren, Barry and Stephanie King, Shannon and Sharon King, Bryan and Alicia Crews, Shawn and Brian Smith and Brad Crews; numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 30, from the Offerman Baptist Church.

Yvonne James Deloach
Yvonne James Deloach, 86, died suddenly Wednesday morning, September 28, 2005, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross.
A native and lifelong resident of Blackshear, she was preceded in death by her husband, W.T. Deloach; her parents, Cleveland James and Rena Bennett James Henderson; a daughter, Mary Ellen “Dee” Clauss; son, Wayne Deloach and a daughter-in-law, Christina Deloach.
She retired as Deputy Clerk of Court in Pierce County where her husband served as Clerk of Superior Court. She had also worked many years at Gilmore’s Department Store as a sales lady and as secretary for the Pierce County Stock Yard.
She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she was in the Alethean Sunday School Class, the Joy Group and Joy Choir. She was a member of the Senior Citizens of Pierce County Quilting Club, was active in water aerobics at the YMCA, and formerly volunteered at the Pierce County Nursing Home.
Survivors include her daughter, Glynda Brinson Gausnell (husband Jack), Carbondale, CO; two sons, Evan Deloach (wife Ginger) and Winkie Deloach (wife Beverly), all of Blackshear; nine grandchildren Kip Clauss (wife Jade), Forest Hills, NY, Michael Brinson (wife Monica), Carbondale, CO, Steve Brinson (wife Elizabeth), New Orleans, LA, Jeff Deloach, Brandon, FL, Jennifer Lamotte (husband Todd), Monroe, David Deloach (wife Cindy), Rocky Mount, NC, Karen Battle (husband Jim), Wake Forest, NC, Ryan Deloach (wife Jennifer), Holly Springs, NC, and Adam Deloach (wife Audrey), Blackshear; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Stella Maude Davis Owens and Darcil Henderson Davis, both of Blackshear and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 1, from the First Baptist Church.

Tilda Beverly Douberly
Tilda Beverly Douberly, 80, of Waycross, died Sunday, September 25, 2005.
A native of Coffee County, she was a daughter of the late Francis Lee Beverly and Mary Howell Beverly. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
“Today we lost a loved one. An Aunt to some of us, a Mother as well, a sister, too, and a grandmother to most. Her name was “Tilda Douberly” but we knew her as Tildy or Aunt Teet. She was the kind of person who could make you smile and laugh. When she walked into a room it was as if you couldn’t help it, you just had to give her a hug. Well, to those people who didn’t know her I wish that you did because then you would know what I am saying. She had children that she loved and people who weren’t her children, she loved them as if they were. I will miss her a whole lot, but I will see her again someday, ” said family member Mandy Corbitt.
Survivors are her children, Ronda Haslett, Roscoe Douberly, both of Columbia, SC, Lee Edward Douberly and his wife, Laura, Camden, SC, Marvin Douberly and his wife, Diana, Hot Springs, AR and Marguerite DuPree and her husband, David, Myrtle Beach, SC; 20 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and a sister, Pearlie Corbett, Jacksonville, FL.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, from the High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church in Brantley County with Elder Daniel Drawdy officiating.

Curtis ‘Jim’ Walker
Curtis “Jim” Walker, 72, of Waycross, died Sunday morning, October 2, 2005, at the Satilla Care Center after an extended illness.
A native of Coffee County, he had lived most of his life in Jacksonville, FL before moving back to Waycross a month ago. He was a self-employed stone and brick mason and of the Jehovah Witness faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Air Force where he served during the Korean Conflict. His parents were the late Dewey David Walker and Lilie Hersey Walker. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Letha Meeks and Lynn Kasper; four brothers, Dan Walker, Dewey Walker, Wallace Q. Walker and Ed Walker.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Minchew (husband Jerry), Blackshear and Bonnie G. Morgan, Jacksonville, FL; one son, James Curtis Walker, Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren, Angela Kincaid (husband Joey), Waycross, Daniel Scurry, Waycross, and Victor L. Williamson, Jacksonville, FL; four sisters, Margaret Wills, Jacksonville, FL, Faye Stice, Sumterville, SC, Gloria Ann Crumbley, Brunswick, Glenda Highlands, Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, Doris Walker, Jacksonville, FL, Connie Jay Walker, Griffin and Jerry Walker, Alma and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Ruby Lee Peacock Wiggins
Mrs. Ruby Lee Peacock Wiggins, 77, died Sunday morning, October 2, 2005 at Baptist Village after an extended illness.
She was a native of and lifelong resident of Pierce County and the Waycross area. She was employed as a nurse’s aide and speech therapist at Baptist Village for 18 years. She was a member of the Pierce County Homemakers and very active in Bible Heritage Church.
She was the daughter of the late James Rance Peacock and Vicy James Peacock. She was the wife of the late Willis Bryant Wiggins. She was also preceded in death by five sisters and brothers, Eula Mae Dixon, Lester Peacock, Omar Peacock and Oden Peacock, and Catherine Peacock.
Survivors include her daugher, Vicy Carroll (husband John), Valdosta; her son, Bryant Wiggins (wife Terri), Waycross; a grandson, Jonathon Bryant Carroll, Valdosta; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, from the Bible Heritage Church.

Lloyd Allen Guyer
Lloyd Allen Guyer, 41, of Blackshear, passed away Monday, August 15, 2005, at the St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL.
A native of Pikeville, KY, he was reared in Decatur, IL but had lived in Blackshear for the last seven years. He had worked for S. S. Hydraulic and had also owned his own landscaping company. He was a Georgia Master Gardener and had assisted his wife with the Girl Scout Troup #372. He was a son of the American Legion and was Volunteer of the Year for Concerted Services. He was also the Assistant C.E.O. with Food Ministries Inc. and was a member of the Abundant Life Christian Center.
Survivors include his wife, Valerie Bonnell Guyer, Blackshear; a son, William Harrison Guyer, Blackshear; a daughter, Miranda Krystopher-Lea Guyer, Blackshear; his parents, Paul and Jean Coleman Guyer, Blackshear; a sister, Jodi Osborne, Blackshear; his grandmother, Lucille Guyer, Blackshear; his father and mother-in-law, Norman and Maryln Bonnell, Rantoul, IL; two nieces, Courtney Osborne and Mallory Osborne and several other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 20, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel with the Rev. Andy Velie and the Rev. Bob Tucker officiating.

The Rev. Robert James Tanner
The Rev. Robert James Tanner, 73, of Nicholls passed away on Monday, August 15, 2005, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, following a brief illness.
The Rev. Tanner, a native of Laurens County, was born June 23, 1932, the son of the late Luther Vinson and Eula Mae Tanner. He was a licensed minister with the Church of God having served as pastor of Harvestime Church of God, Calvary Mission in Coffee County and Helena Congregational Holiness Church and he had preached at several churches in Coffee and surrounding Counties throughout South Georgia.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Ann Carter Tanner, Nicholls; son, Robert Keith Tanner, Blackshear and Richard Kevin Tanner, Nicholls; brother, Junior Tanner, Waycross; sisters, Betty Carmichael, Nicholls and Clara Rowell, Brunswick; grandchildren, Kalin Tanner and Haleigh Tanner both of Blackshear and Macy Tanner, Nicholls and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, August 18, from the First Assembly of God Church in Douglas with the Rev. Franklin Peacock and the Rev. Milton Dean officiating.
The Redeemed Trio sang, “In My New Home” and “Victory On The Other Side”. A taped selection of “Just Inside” was provided and the congregation sang, “Amazing Grace” with Sammy Snipes, pianist.

Joseph Hillman Harvey Jr.
Joseph Hillman Harvey Jr., 76, known throughout central and south Georgia as Joe Harvey, the man behind the Harvey's supermarket chain, died Thursday, August 18, 2005, after a long battle with cancer.
Harvey, 76, started working in his father's grocery stores when he was five years old and helped found the J.H. Harvey Company Inc., in 1950. Emphasizing friendly customer service and a wide selection of fresh meats and local products, the Harveys chain grew from a handful of stores in the early 1950s to 45 locations in Georgia and north Florida in 2003, when he sold the company to Delhaize Group, the parent company of Food Lion.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Martha Brumley Harvey, and several children, grand children and great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 20, from the Strickland Memorial Auditorium at Epworth-by-the Sea on St. Simons Island.
