Miriam A. Burse
Miriam A. Jackson Burse, 64, of 609 Lee Avenue, Waycross, departed this life Thursday, March 17, 2005, at the Hospice of the Golden Isles of Brunswick.
Miriam Ann Burse was born December 19, 1940 in Waycross as the daughter of the late John L. Dixon of Cordele and Dorothy Jackson of Waycross. She received her formal education in the public schools of Waycross, graduating from Center High School in May of 1959. As a Waycross native, Miriam worked for General Box Company and at Waycross Molding until she moved to Brunswick in 1984, where she worked for a short time with Hercules. After leaving Hercules, Miriam started her own cleaning service and worked until ill health befell her. She was preceded in death by a son, Lamar Burse and her grandmother, Annie Lee Jackson.
Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Burse, Waycross; two sons, Robert (Anita) Burse Jr. and Curtis Burse, Waycross; a sister and best friend, Virginia Jackson, Brunswick; two other sisters, Brenda (Elbert) and Linda Parker, Cordele; six brothers, John Dixon Jr., Atlanta, Robert (Gloria) Dixon, Hoganville, Floyd (Clara) Dixon, Jacksonville, FL, Jake Dixon and Henry Dixon, both of Atlanta and Billy Dixon, Alberta, Canada; her husband, Robert Burse Sr., Cocoa Beach, FL; three grandsons, Aaron Howard Jr., Jimal McBride, Keynata Cole; five granddaughters, Cursha Cole, Kanecka Higgins, Ronaesha Higgins, Ittericka Burse and Pamela Molt, all of Waycross; special nephews, Malcolm (Cheryl) Jackson, Macon, Drickey Jackson, San Diego, CA, Maurice Jackson and Corey Jackson, both of Brunswick and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 26, from the Congregational First Born Church, Morton Avenue, Waycross, with Elder George Burse presiding.
Memorialization was by cremation.

Frances Robena Whicker Moore
Frances Robena Whicker Moore, 83, of Blackshear passed away early Thursday morning, March 24, 2005, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross.
A native of Forsyth County, NC, she had lived in Lakeland, FL for almost forty years before moving to Blackshear four years ago. She was a housewife and was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Lakeland. She was a daughter of the late Ora Odell and Hazel Shaw Whicker and was also preceded in death by her first husband, James Brown Minnis, and a granddaughter, Rachel Moore.
Survivors are her husband, Columbus Venable 'C.V.' Moore, Blackshear; six daughters, Marie (Larry) Sturdivant, Chapel Hill, NC, Frances (James 'Boe') Broadhead, Blackshear, Faye Stephens, Hillsborough, NC, Janice Ann Moore, Riverview, FL and Joan Carol (Ernie) Haynes and Billie Jean Thompson, both of Lakeland; three sons, Bobby (Brenda) Minnis, Semora, NC, Jimmy (Shawn) Minnis, Lakeland and John Thomas (Pam) Moore, California, MD; two sisters, Hilda Cole, Daytona Beach, FL and Florence Ivey, Richmond, VA; two brothers, James (Virginia) Whicker and Curtis (Dot) Whicker, all of Hillsborough, NC; 18 grandchildren, Wayne Churchill, Sara Abt, Taylor Moore, Darian Sturdivant, Tina Sturdivant, Randall Broadhead, Greg Broadhead, Ryan Moore, James Lee Broadhead, Scott Stephens, Chris Stephens, Alecia Minnis, James Hunter, Gene Wolfe, Robbie Minnis, Colt Minnis, Ernie Haynes and Andy Haynes; 16 great-grandchildren, Justin Sturdivant, Stephanie Mincey, Malachi Broadhead, Jessica Broadhead, Liz Broadhead, Jamie Broadhead, Dillon Broadhead, Sherry Edwards, T. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 26, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel.

Tilman Coy Deal
Tilman Coy Deal, 68, of Blackshear, died suddenly Thursday afternoon, March 24, 2005, at his residence.
A native of Wayne County, he had lived most of his life in Pierce County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jean Deal and Dora Lee Hickox Deal and two brothers, Ellis Deal and Owen Deal.
He was a retired mill wright from Champion International in Waycross. He was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men's Adult Sunday School Class and the Saints of Joy.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years JoeAnn Deal, Blackshear; a son, Derreck Deal (wife Carla C.), of Blackshear; a daughter, Aundria Deal, Blackshear; two grandchildren Jessica Deal and Hunter Deal, both of Blackshear; a sister Pauline Tanner (husband Earlie), Blackshear; four brothers Elmore Deal (wife Llene), Willmin Deal (wife Wilidene) all of Blackshear; Parnell Deal, Richmond Hill and Roscoe Deal (wife Libby), Social Circle and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26, from Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Lester M. 'Mack' Wilson
Lester M. 'Mack' Wilson, 60, of Brunswick, died Thursday, March 24, 2005, as a result of a vehicle accident.
A native of Waycross, he had lived in Brunswick for the past 38 years, moving there from Blackshear. He was owner and operator of Mack's Bar-be-que. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he was the High Priest Group Leader.
Survivors include his wife, June Wilson, Brunswick; three sons, Dean Wilson and Daniel Wilson, both of Brunswick; Dale Wilson, Phoenix, AZ; a daughter, Diane Wilson, Waynesville; two sisters, Mary Lowman, Mershon and Marie Wilson, Ocala, FL; two brothers, Jack Wilson and Tom Wilson, both of Blackshear; 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Harry Griffis officiating.

James Lester 'Manny' Rogers
James Lester 'Manny' Rogers, 82, of Blackshear, passed away Friday evening, March 18, 2005, at his residence.
A native of Pierce County, he had lived in Florida for many years before returning to Pierce County in 1983. He was self-employed as a mechanic and was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He was a Jehovah's Witness. He was the son of the late James W. and Sarah Elizabeth Chancey Rogers. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Miles Roberson Jr. and his wife, Carolyn Chancey Rogers.
Survivors include four daughters, Carolette Schuman and Evelyn Smith, both of Blackshear, Rita and Lewis Moore, Okeechobee, FL, and Judy and Terry Knox, Palatka, FL; two sons, Ray and Julia Rogers and James E. and Dawn Rogers, both of Patterson; three sisters, Bell Betton, Leesburg, Julina Sapp, Willacoochee, and Juanita Rigdon, Crawfordville, FL; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 21, from the Foster Cemetery.

Lois Crawford Howard
Lois Crawford Howard, 84, of Blackshear died early Sunday morning, March 13, 2005, at her residence after an extended illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Pierce County, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo Earl Howard and by her parents Jasper Crawford and Ocie Harris Crawford.
Mrs. Howard was a homemaker and attended Laura Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Amelia Pearson (husband Harold), Blackshear; two sons, Eglon Howard (wife Bobbie Jean) and Dudley Howard (wife Brenda) all of Blackshear; eight grandchildren Cory Morgan (wife Regina) Waycross, Christie Johnson (husband Jamie), Blackshear, Scott Howard (wife Melissa), Blackshear, Rhonda West (husband Clay), Tifton, Brandi Howard, Tifton, Moye Howard (wife Kathy), Blackshear, Gentry Howard (wife Vickie), Hartwell, and Lee Howard, Statesboro, 11 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Gerod Crawford, Jessie Crawford and Billy Crawford, all of Blackshear and Donald Crawford (wife Leola), Savannah; three sisters, Loretta Crawford (husband Gene), Jesup, Louise Dixon, Blackshear and Lillian Smiley (husband Edgar), Blackshear and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, from the Laura Chapel Baptist Church.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Miriam 'Sister' Chester
Miriam 'Sister' Chester, 86, died Sunday night, February 27, 2005, at Satilla Care Center after an extended illness.
A native of Appling County, she was a daughter of the late Marion Thornton and America Turner Thornton. She was the widow of the late Harvey Chester. She had made her home in Waycross for the last 45 years and was a member of Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Wayne County.
Survivors include two sisters Florene 'Billie' Sheffield, High Springs, FL and Colleen Carter, Waycross; one brother, George Thornton (wife Frances), Vidalia; a step-daughter-in-law, Helen Chester, Orlando, FL; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, from the Big Creek Primitive Church in Wayne County with Elder Alvin Johnson and Elder Clarke Lee officiating.

Donald Paul Myrick
Donald Paul Myrick, 42, of Bristol, died Monday, February, 28, 2005, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah after an extended illness.
A native of Gainesville, FL, he had lived most of his life in Blackshear. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack D. Myrick Sr., a sister, Karen Minderler and his grandmothers, Leona Suggs and Effie Fish.
He was a 1981 graduate of Blackshear High School. He retired from Sears as the warehouse manager in Waycross. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Melissa Myrick, Bristol; a daughter, Amber Myrick, Bristol; a son, Paul Myrick, Bristol; his mother, Juanita Jowers Gallimore, Waycross; step-father, James Gallimore, Waycross; grandfather, Bobby Suggs, Blackshear; father and mother-in-law, Billy Metts and Dorothy Dyal, both of Bristol; three sisters, Renee Crews, Robin Brown and Michelle Smith, all of Waycross; two brothers, Jackie Myrick (wife Tammy) and Bobby Myrick, all of Blackshear, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 3, from the Bethel Baptist Church.

Willard Luke
Willard Luke, 81, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday morning, March 1, 2005, at the Memorial Medical Center in Jacksonville following a brief illness.
A native of Pierce County, he had been a resident of Baptist Village for the past few years. He was an independent contractor but had also worked for the Spatola Shoe Factory for many years and also for the old ACL Railroad. He was a member of the Hacklebarney Baptist Church and was a son of the late Christopher Allen and Mittie Sweat Luke. Also preceding him in death were his wife, Courtney Irene Crawford Luke; a sister, Waunell Hamm, and four brothers, Desson Luke, Grady Luke, Cecil Luke and Arnold Luke.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Robert Griffin, Blackshear; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Scarlett Luke, Blackshear; a brother, Clinton Luke, Blackshear; two grandchildren, Scott Griffin and Tony Luke; three great-grandchildren, Connor Luke, Alec Luke and Hannah Luke and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 3, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel.
