Annette Kimbrell Thornton

Annette Kimbrell Thornton, 64, of Patterson, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2005, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
A native and life-long resident of Pierce County, she had worked as a para-professional with the Pierce County Board of Education and was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she was in the Senior Adult Sunday School Class and enjoyed working in the church nursery. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Ezekiel and Wilma Louise Henderson Kimbrell.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Thornton, Patterson; four sons, Dewayne (Jamie) Crisp, Robby (Brenda) Thornton and Scott Thornton, all of Patterson and Timothy Crisp, Mt. Pleasant, SC; a brother, Don (Pauline) Kimbrell, Waycross; her mother-in-law, Ana Bel Thornton, Patterson; nine grandchildren, Whitney Crisp, Sydney Crisp, Ryan Thornton, Neal Crisp, Samantha Thornton, Scott Thornton, Taylor Thornton, Caroline Crisp and Robby Thornton; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, from the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
iIntermentfollowed in the Offerman Cemetery.
Members of the Senior Adult Sunday School class served as honorary pallbearers.

Christine Howard Davis

Christine Howard Davis, 78, of Blackshear, passed away late Friday afternoon, January 7, 2005, at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer for the last nine and a half years.
A native of Charlton County, she had lived in Pierce County all of her married life. She was a housewife but had also worked as a sitter. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was in the Followers Sunday School Class and the Tuesday Afternoon Prayer Group. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She was a daughter of the late Jack and Josephine Allen Howard and was also preceded in death by her husband, Burnell Davis; a son-in-law, Harley Davis; a great-grandchild, Ansley Melissa Day and a brother, Marvin Howard.
Survivors are three daughters and sons-in-law, Winona and Jerry Walker and Linda and Larry Hill, all of Patterson and Sharon and Andy Taylor, Blackshear; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Charlotte Davis, Blackshear; a sister, Ann (Gene) Seward, Fernandina Beach, FL; four brothers, Jack (Pat) Howard, Jacksonville, FL, Lonnie (Maggie) Howard and Jim Howard, all of Blackshear and Tom (Thelma) Howard, Savannah; a sister-in-law, Mildred Howard, Waycross; 12 grandchildren, Debbie (David) Hand, Janet (Tarver) Strickland, Wendy (Bryan) Sinclair, Jerrian (Jim) Waters, Tena (Kevin) Allen, Scott Hill, Amy (Andy) Day, Mandy (Chris) Sinclair, Jami (Blake) Carter, Sara Davis, Mary Ann (Jeff) Chaney and Andy “Buck” Taylor III; 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, from the First Baptist Church.
iIntermentwill be in the Blackshear Cemetery.

Connie ‘Ray’ Cason

Connie Ray Cason, 62, of Patterson, passed away Saturday evening, January 8, 2005, at his residence following courageous battle with cancer.
A native and life-long resident of Pierce County, he was a carpenter with the Capenters Union Local 865 in Brunswick and was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was a son of the late James Allen and Eddie Lou Chancey Cason and was also preceded in death by a sister, Devonda Thomas, and by a brother, Joseph Cason.
Survivors include his wife, Linda O’Berry Cason, Patterson; a daughter, Glenda Michelle Cason, Patterson; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael Ray Cason, Patterson and John Mitchell and Rebecca Cason of Blackshear; a special son-in-law, Eddie Sapp, Patterson; four sisters, Barbara Landon, Offerman, Betty Jo (Phillip) Smith, Wayne County, Bonnie Cason, Jesup and Peggy (Raymond) Mansfield, Odum; two brothers, James Oliver (Gail) Cason, Patterson and Samuel Edward (Susie) Cason, Offerman; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel with the Rev. I. B. Boyette officiating.

Eletha Victoria Sellers Anderson

Eletha Victoria Sellers Anderson, 51, of Blackshear died Sunday afternoon, January 9, 2005, at her residence after an extended illness.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Pierce County. She was preceded in death by her parents Jerry Judon Sellers and Betty Sharpe Sellers.
Mrs. Anderson was a homemaker and a member of the Living River Church of God in Blackshear.
Survivors include her husband, Danny Anderson, Waycross; a son, Russell J. Anderson (wife Kimberly), Waycross; a daughter, Reba Shae Atkins, Blackshear; two grandchildren, Dillion Anderson, Waycross and Trevor Atkins, Blackshear; a sister, Debbie Ivey (husband Vernon), Blackshear; four special nieces, Jean Crawford, Victoria Harris, Candi Ivey and KatieBeth Crawford, all of Blackshear, and a special nephew, Brad Anderson, Waycross, and many other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. (today) Wednesday, Jan. 12 from the Living River Church of God.
iIntermentwill follow in Shiloh Cemetery.

Wilma Lee Garner Courson

Wilma Lee Garner Courson, 73, of the Bickley Community passed away early Sunday morning, January 9, 2005, at her residence following an extended illness.
A native of Bacon County, she had resided most of her life in Ware County. She was a daughter of the late Albert and Rilla Davis Garner and was preceded in death by two brothers, Ward Garner and Howard Garner. She was an active member of the Bickley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Dewitt Courson of the Bickley Community; her children, Joyce Hickox (husband Willie), Waycross, Sue Carpenter, Augusta, Glynn Courson, Mitchell Courson, Karen Nichols (husband David Eric), Brian Courson (wife Sherrie), all of the Bickley Community, Denise Carden (husband Ty), Blackshear; three bothers, Dewey Garner, Alma, Lloyd Garner, Portsmouth, VA and Hubert Garner, Auburndale, FL; 15 grandchildren, Rodney Cothern, Gina Anderson (husband Scott), Brad Hickox, Brett Hickox, Alison Carpenter, Elizabeth Carpenter, Vicky Howard (husband Gentry), Crystal Detorre (husband Joey), Daniel Nichols, Amber Boatright, T. J. Carden, Lauren Carden, Preston Courson, Adam Courson, Amy Courson; five great-grandchildren, Courtney Anderson, Erica Anderson, Brock Anderson, Kelsey Lloyd, Tabitha Cothern; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, from the Bickley United Methodist Church.

Members of the Bickley U.M.C. Senior Adult Sunday School Class served as honorary pallbearers.
Music Funeral Home of Waycross was in charge of arrangements.

Gary Sanders

Gary Sanders, 31, of Blackshear, died suddenly Monday, December 20, 2004 in Baltimore, MD.
A native of Coffee County, he had lived most of his life in Blackshear and Waycross. He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Sanders and Garryann Sanders.
He was employed with York Bridge Concepts of Tampa, FL, and worked in the construction department building bridges.
Survivors include his daughter, Hannah Sanders, Chino Valley, AZ; a brother, Billy Joe Sanders (wife Sabrina), Chino Valley, AZ; a half-sister, Liz Neel (husband Terry), Jefferson, TX; a half-brother, Billy Ray Sanders, Canton, OH and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A memorial Service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2005 from the chapel of Smith Funeral Home.
iIntermentfollowed in the Chatterton Grove cemetery in Coffee County.
Memorialization was by cremation.

Willie Mae Pearson Harris

Willie Mae Pearson Harris, 85, of 3181 Allen Ave. in Blackshear, died early Saturday morning, January 1, 2005 at her residence.
She was born September 10, 1919 in Anderson, AL, as the daughter of the late Flora Pearson. She had lived in Blackshear for many years raising her nine children. She was a member in good standing at Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church of Blackshear and attended faithfully until health failed.
She was preceded in death by her mother, step-father, Charlie Simmons and a brother, Joe Pearson.
Survivors include her devoted companion Doc Arrington Jr., six daughters: Lillian (Charles) Clark, Eva Mae (Ben) Smith and Alberta Hall, all of Blackshear, Annette (James- deceased) Blair, Colorado Springs, CO, Margaret (Otis) Fleming, Argyle, Ruthie (Larry) NeSmith of Baxley; three sons: Willie (Mary) Harris, Eugene (Janice) Harris and Tommy (Diane) Harris, all of Blackshear; 38 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law Savannah Harris, St. Augustine, FL and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, from the Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Blackshear with Pastor Brady McSwain officiating.

Margaret L. ‘Maggie’ Hill

Margaret L. “Maggie” Hill, 56, died early Saturday, January 1, 2005, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
A native of Pierce County, she had resided most of her life in Waycross. She was the daughter of the late Randall Jones. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Jones and Henry Jones.
She was office manager for The Veterinary Clinic and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Blackshear.
Survivors include her husband, Herman Hill, Waycross; two sons, Bryan Hill (fiancee Christine), Waycross and Keith Hill (wife Angela), Alma; four grandchildren, Austin Hill, Ashleigh Hill, Tyler Hill and Hunter Hill; her mother, Laura Jones, Blackshear; two sisters, Louise Sauls (husband Robert) of Pierce County, Linda Music (husband Bill) of Hazlehurst; two brothers, John Jones (wife Linda) and Jessie Jones both of Pierce County; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, from the Music Funeral Home Chapel.
iIntermentfollowed in Oakland Cemetery.
Music Funeral Home of Waycross was in charge of arrangements.

Lula H. Brown

Lula H. Brown, 82, died Saturday, January 1, 2005, at the Pierce County Nursing Home in Blackshear.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, William and Margo Brown, Atlanta; daughters and sons-in-law, Madeline and Herbert White, Hyattsville, MD, Colleen and John Noble of Blackshear, Barbara and Ray Leaphart, Annette and Craig Farley, both of Atlanta; Ethel and Ron Lambert, Savannah; an adopted daughter, Sheila Williams, Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Ida Holmes, Blackshear; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 5), from the Zion Baptist Church in Blackshear.
Fluker Funeral Home of Waycross is in charge of arrangements.
