Margaret Dell Primus
Margaret Dell Primus, 54, of Blackshear, died early Wednesday morning, December 8, 2004 at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross.
She was born on September 22, 1950 as the daughter of the late Dewey and Louise Primus in Pierce County. She graduated from Lee Street High School in Blackshear 1968 and went on to become a certified nursing assistant and dietary aid.
Margaret raised her four children and many more she called her “adopted children”. Margaret was The Mother of The Independent Freewill Holiness in Blackshear.
Survivors include three daughters, Regina Primus (Ron), Albany, Buffie Ellis (Henry) and Tammy Smith (Carl), both of Blackshear; a son, Evans Primus (DeDe), Waycross; four sisters Pastor Betty Carr (Willie), Ella Myles (A.J.), both of Blackshear; Shirley Chatters, Seattle, WA and Lula Roberson, Waycross; three brothers, Pastor Roy Primus (Catherine), Atlanta; Henry Primus, Savannah and Timothy Primus (Phyllis), Atlanta; eight grandchildren with a very special granddaughter, Carmen, that she raised as her own, and a very special great-grandson, Desmond Mitchum, along with four special friends Mary Givins, Pastor Linda Swift, Emma Woody and Jacquelyn Blakely and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins and friends and her many “adopted” children.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, from the Bethel Temple Holiness Church on Burroughs Street in Blackshear.

Ellie Hannah Ivany Mattox
Ellie Hannah Ivany Mattox, 82, of Waycross, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at the Pierce County Nursing Home.
Born in Ivanhoe, Newfoundland, she had lived in the Pierce County area for the past 58 years. She was a nurse technician at the Satilla Regional Medical Center, formerly Memorial Hospital in Waycross, and also a homemaker. She was a member of the Beulah Baptist Church where she taught the Primary Sunday School Class for 12 years. She was a poet who wrote a book of “Inspirational Poems” that was published in 1981; she was a recipient of the Silver Poet award in 1990 and also received several other awards for her poetry. Some of her poems are in the Library of Congress. She was a daughter of the late John George and Hilda Jeane Bailey Ivany, and was preceded in death by her husband, Tracy Henry Mattox; and two brothers, Lonzo Ivany and Edgar Ivany.
Survivors include three daughters, Violet and John Shipes, and Sandy and Bob Murff, all of Waycross, and Daphine and Bill Allen, Huntsville, AL; one son, Billy and Julie Mattox, Waycross; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Veta and Martin Strong and Julie and Harvey Watton, Newfoundland; one brother and sister-in-law, Clement and Doris Ivany, Newfoundland.; one sister-in-law, Susie Ivany, Newfoundland and 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, from the Beulah Baptist Church.

Mattie Lee Harris
Mattie Lee Harris, age 79, died late Saturday night, December 11, 2004, at her residence in Blackshear following a lengthy illness. She was born in Charlton County but had lived most of her life in Pierce County. She was a charter member of Youmans Chapel Baptist Church and was a retired homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry Preston and Martha Clark Wildes.
She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Stillwell (husband Bill) of Lawrenceville; three sisters, Julia Belle Dowling of Callahan, FL, Mary E. Mixon (husband Cecil) of Waycross, and Josiphine Bowen (husband Robert) of Blackshear; three grandchildren: Chris Stillwell (wife Cathy), Ken Stillwell (wife Lisa) and Steve Stillwell (wife Lisa), all of the Atlanta area; five great-grandchildren, Corey, Nick, Brian, Autumn, and Carlie, all of the Atlanta area; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home.

Earl Rudolph Sanderson
Earl Rudolph Sanderson, 74, passed away early Sunday morning, December 12, 2004, at his residence after a long illness.
A native of Bainbridge, GA, he had lived in Fernandina Beach for 35 years, and has been a resident of the Beulah Church Community for the past 13 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Juanita Adams Sanderson of Waycross; two daughters, Sherry Dawn Sanderson, and Rhonda Susan Sanderson of Fernandina Beach; two sons, Stephen Earl Sanderson of Fernandina Beach, and Martin Keith Sanderson of Roswell; two Brothers, Robert and Norman Sanderson of Sylvester; his five grandchildren, Mrs. Sanderson’s three grandchildren, Tammy, Gayla, and Missy. He is also survived by Mrs. Sanderson’s six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A Graveside Service for Mr. Sanderson was held Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. at Lee’s Chapel.

Dorothy Virginia Howard Rowell
Dorothy Virginia Howard Rowell, 69, of Hortense, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at her residence following a long illness.
Born in Vero Beach, FL, she had lived in the Hortense area all of her life. She was a housewife and was a member of the Twin Rivers Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late I. V. and Mary Ellen Thornton Howard and was also preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Howard.
Survivors include her husband of fifty years, Cornelius B. “C.B.” Rowell, Hortense; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Jerry Collins and Pat and Randy Davison, all of Hortense; two sisters, Mary Kicklighter and Rose Boyd, both of Augusta; a brother, Richard Howard, Nahunta; three grandchildren, Christopher Corbitt and Erin Davison, both of Hortense and Brandi Fowler, Blackshear; a great-grandchild, Mikayla Fowler; two step-great-grandchildren, Austin Lamb and Micheal Lamb and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, from the Twin Rivers Baptist Church.

Alvin Randall Tuten
Alvin Randall Tuten, 89, of Baxley, died Saturday, December 4, 2004, after a long illness.
A native of Blackshear, he had lived in Baxley since 1938. He retired in 1979 from the Appling County Board of Education following 41 years of service. After retirement, he continued his interest in farming as well as timber consulting. Mr. Tuten was active in all phases of vocational education and held memberships in local, state and national organizations. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Baxley, where he served in many capacities, from Sunday school teacher to chairman of the Board.
Survivors include his wife of more than 64 years, Nell Tuten, Baxley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Eleanor and Allen Well and Anne and Stan Kanavage; one son and daughter-in-law, Alvin and Elaine Tuten; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Barry and Kim Wells, Paige and Scott Kahler, Randy and Shelley Wells, Chris and Darci Tuten, Courtney and Lee Dorman and Kane and Grant Kanavage; great-grandchildren, Brooke and Barrett Wells and Samuel and Sarah Kahler; sisters, Waunelle Jordan, Latrelle Moore, Doris Stuckey, Fran Wood and Jerri Moody; one brother, Dr. Gene Tuten and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, from the First United Methodist Church of Baxley with the Rev. Randy Mosley and the Rev. Thomas Johnson officiating.

Mary Lynn Smith Youmans
Mary Lynn Smith Youmans, 65, of Blackshear died Saturday afternoon, December 4, 2004, at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross, following an extended illness.
A native of Fitzgerald, she had lived most of her life in Pierce County. She was preceded in death by her parents Taft Eunice Smith and Emma Inez Shiver Smith.
She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Hacklebarney Baptist Church, where she formerly taught Sunday school for many years. She was a former volunteer with the Red Cross and a former member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, William I. “Bill” Youmans, Blackshear; a daughter, Sherrilyn Aldridge (husband, the Rev. Randy Aldridge), Abingdon, VA; a son, William Roger Youmans, Blackshear; a brother, Taft Gene Smith (wife Sherri), Blackshear; two grandchildren, Shane Aldridge (wife Kelly) and Holly Aldridge (fiance Adam Dean), all of Pennington Gap, VA, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, from the Hacklebarney Baptist Church.

Mary Eunice Bryant
Mary Eunice Bryant, 88, of Blackshear died Sunday night, November 21, 2004, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center, in Waycross, after a sudden illness.
A native of Bulloch County, she had lived most of her life in Pierce County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Diaz Bryant; her parents, Henry Brown and Naomi Akins Brown; two sons-in-law, James L. Wynn and Julian S. Raulerson; a grandson, Michael K. Bryant and a brother, Harvey Brown.
She was a retired seamstress from J.C. Penney’s. She was a long-time active member of Bethel Baptist Church in Blackshear.
Survivors include three daughters, Grace B. Wynn, Blackshear, Lawanna Davis (husband Parnell), Fernandina Beach, FL and Maxine Raulerson, Patterson; two sons Buddy Bryant (wife Carol), Bristol, and Bobby D. Bryant Sr. (wife Linda), Waycross; eight grandchildren, Eddie Wynn, Hinesville, Debbie Higginbotham (husband Tommy), Callahan, FL, Julie Allen (husband Kevin), Waycross, Stephanie Gill (husband Larry), Offerman, Kathy Brown, Rochester, NY, Jennifer Tatum (husband Chris), Waycross, Clint Holland (wife Becky), Mershon, and Bobby D. Bryant Jr. wife (Melissa), Blackshear; 20 great-grandchildren, two great- great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

George A. Loyd Sr.
George A. Loyd Sr., 91, of Nahunta, died Monday, November 22, 2004, at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross after an extended illness.
He grew up in Johnson County, the son of the late Andrew Cuff Loyd and Ophelia Green Loyd. He was preceded in death by his brother, Albert L. Loyd.
He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and graduated from University of Georgia. He served as Brantley County Extension Agent for 21 years, providing selfless services to the farming community. He was beloved by many students in Brantley County for his active work with the 4-H Club.
He was a member of Nahunta First Baptist Church, the Lions Club and was a charter member of the Brantley County Farm Bureau. He was a former member of Slash Pine Area and Planning Commission.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Annie Lou Riner Loyd, Nahunta; a daughter, M. Beth Deen (Carroll), Waycross; and four sons, George A. Loyd Jr. (Dale), Blackshear, Greg W. Loyd (Peggy), Gainesville, Blake A. Loyd, Nahunta, and Stuart E. Loyd, Rome; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. (today) Wednesday, Nov. 24, from the Nahunta First Baptist Church with the Rev. Marvin Smith and the Rev. Randy Carson officiating.
