Latrelle Henderson Williamson
Latrelle Henderson Williamson, 76, of Blackshear, passed away early Tuesday morning, September 21, 2004, at the Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.
A native and life-long resident of Pierce County, she was a homemaker and was also a member of the Waycross First Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a member of the Ladies Relief Society Organization and was also the Meeting House Librarian in Waycross for several years. She was a daughter of the late Harry H. and Birdie Mae Dixon Henderson.
Survivors include husband, Lester Williamson, Blackshear; three daughters, Linda Kay (Gerald) Schneider, St. Marys, Patricia Marie Heine, Yulee, FL and Teresa Ann (Bennie) Smith, Kingsland; a son, Scott (Cindy) Williamson, Kingsland; five brothers, Horace Henderson, Blackshear, Harweeda (Karen) Henderson, Kearns, UT, Eugene (Connie) Henderson, Cumming, C. Ranford (Melba) Henderson, Marietta and Ander (Shirley) Henderson, Douglas; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, September 23, from the Waycross First Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Sherrol Merinda Welch
Sherrol Merinda Grady Welch, 46, of Patterson, departed her earthly home early Tuesday morning, September 21, 2004, to join her Lord and Savior.
She was born July 11, 1958 to the late James and Johnnie B. Grady of Patterson. She was a member of the Greater St. James A.M.E. Church. She dearly enjoyed singing with her sister and cousins in their gospel group, “Roberts and Joy.”
She graduated from Patterson High School in 1976 and went on to receive a certificate from Waycross-Ware Tech in business management. For the past eight and a half years, she had worked as an instructional assistant at Patterson Elementary School.
Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Welch (fiance Gregory Young); a son, Sean Welch; a brother, James (Mary) Grady, Atlanta; two sisters, Lillie (William) Milledge, Offerman and Yvette (Robert) Newton, Blackshear; one godbrother, Craig Smiley, Blackshear; three aunts, Lillie Wilson, Blackshear, Angie Dobson, Patterson and Willie Mae Brewer, Fort Pierce, FL; an uncle, Robert (Irene) Dobson, Zephyrhills, FL; a host of nieces and nephews, Bryan Davis, Atlanta; James (Joy) Grady Jr., Altanta, Tasha Milledge, Offerman, Ronjii (Coree) Milledge, Offerman, Rhoshaundra Grady, Atlanta, Javian Grady, Atlanta, Faith Newton, Blackshear and Jackson Newton, Blackshear and also an abundance of cousins and a close circle of friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, from the Greater St. James A.M.E. Church in Blackshear.

Rachel Raulerson Crawford Clark
Rachel Raulerson Crawford Clark, 84, of Blackshear, passed away late Monday evening, September 13, 2004, at the Pierce County Nursing Home.
A native of Brantley County, she had lived in Fitzgerald for several years before moving to the nursing home in 2000. She was a housewife and was of the Baptist faith. She was a daughter of the late Frank and Hattie Dowling Raulerson and was also preceded in death by her husband, Hayward Clark Jr.; a son, Gary Dale Crawford; a step-son, Jacky Clark and a grandson, Robbie Hutchinson.
Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Valeria and A. J. Dixon, Blackshear and Betty Ramsey and Eva Thomas, both of Fitzgerald; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Gayle Crawford, Arlington, TX; a step-son, Tommy Joe Clark, Fitzgerald; 12 grandchildren, Linda Ritch, Jeff Dixon, Anna Lee, Pam Sweat, Karen Barnes, Vincent Hutchinson, John Allen Mack, Dianna Sumner, Randy Mack, Kevin Mack, Shellie Fuller and Karen Newton; 22 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 16, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel.

Mary Kate Barber Myers
Mary Kate Barber Myers, 63, of The Villages, FL, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2004.
A native of Blackshear, she had lived in Orange Park, FL before moving to The Villages in 1997. She was a homemaker and was also a realtor with Watson Realty in Orange Park. She was a member of the Village View Community Church in Summerfield, FL and will be remembered for her love of camping, line dancing, golf, the beach and most importantly, her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Clay T. Myers III, The Villages; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clay T. and Tracey Myers IV, Nashville, TN and Brett A. and Marie Myers, DeBary, FL; two sisters, Margie Beckner, Blackshear and Peggy Dixon, Waverly; five brothers, Sonny Barber, Waynesville, Larry Barber, Waycross, Steve Barber, Lexington, NC and Herbert Barber and Bobby Barber, both of Blackshear; four grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, from the Village View Community Church with Pastor Zeph Mahadeo officiating.

E.Z. Melton, 79, of Blackshear, died Thursday night, September 16, 2004, at his residence, after an extended illness.
A native of Bacon County, he had lived in Blackshear for most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joel Timothy Melton and Mary Ellen Thomas Melton and a son, E.Z. “Eddie” Melton Jr. He was retired from Spatola Shoe Factory in Blackshear where he had 35 years of service. He was a longtime active member of Blackshear Church of God and the Men’s Bible Class.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mildred S. Melton, Blackshear; five sons, James Melton (wife, Jan), Waycross, Dennis Melton Sr. (wife, Oveida), Blackshear, Billy Ray Melton (wife, Sue), Blackshear, Jerry Melton, Waycross and Thomas Melton (wife, Donna), Blackshear; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, from the Blackshear Church of God.

William Mark Callahan Sr.
William Mark Callahan Sr., 65, of Blackshear died Friday, September 17, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah after a brief illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Pierce County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Warren. C. Callahan and Stella Mullis Cochran Callahan. He worked for many years for Scapa Dryer in Waycross and Gilman Building Products in Blackshear. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Blackshear. He was also a member of the Pierce County Hunting Club and enjoyed his many friends from the Cardiac Rehab in Waycross. He was a 1957 graduate of Blackshear High School where he played on the State Championship Basketball Team.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Henderson Callahan, Blackshear; a daughter, Carmon Minchew (husband Butch), Blackshear; two sons Mark Callahan, Blackshear and Donald Callahan, Macon; three grandchildren Dustin, Devin, and Lilly Minchew, all of Blackshear; two brothers, Carroll Callahan (wife Agnes), Blackshear and Harry Callahan (wife Dixie), Kingsland; two half-brothers Joe Cochran (wife Colleen), Blackshear and Herbert Callahan of Blackshear and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, from the chapel of Smith Funeral Home.
Memorialization was by cremation.

Charles Kenneth Carter
Charles Kenneth Carter, 72, passed away late Monday afternoon, July 26, 2004, at his residence.
A native of Appling County, he had lived in the Long Branch area of Appling County for many years before moving to the Patterson area a few months ago.
He had worked with the Jacksonville Fire Department for several years. He had worked as a truck driver but in his later years had farmed. He was of the Church of God faith and was a son of the late Silas Arron and Emma Jane Rowell Carter.
Survivors are his wife, Patricia Goss Carter, Offerman; four daughters, Susan (Loy) Evors and Garnetta (James) Edenfield, all of Screven, Tanya (Quincy) Allen, Baxley and Cira Jantes and her husband, Florencio Rubio, Bristol; six sons, Larry Carter, Mershon, Steve (Nancy) Carter, Scuffletown, Randy (Lan) Carter, Jacksonville, Roger (Penny) Carter, Baton Rouge, LA, Wallace Carter, Jesup and Joseph Adkison Carter, Austin, TX; two sisters, Mozell Dixon, Waycross and Ruth Colley, Blackshear; two brothers, Roswell (Jean) Carter and Silas Arron Carter Jr., all of Jacksonville; 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Irma Winn.

James J. ‘Jimmy’ Morgan
James J. “Jimmy” Morgan, 57, died Sunday afternoon, August 1, 2004, at his residence in Pierce County after an extended illness.
A native and life-long resident of Pierce County, he was preceded in death by his mother, Lavenia Dixon Morgan; a son, Jamie Morgan; a daughter, Katy Sweat; a sister, Joan Morgan and a brother, David Morgan.
He was formerly employed as a sheet metal worker at Kings Bay and surrounding area. He was of the Baptist faith and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He received many medals including the Purple Heart.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Morgan, Blackshear; four sons, James Cody Morgan and Joey Herndon, both of Blackshear; Chris Creighton (wife Sible), Patterson and James Creighton, Nashville, TN; a special daughter, Courtney Meeks, Waycross; 10 grandchildren; his father and step-mother James R. Morgan (wife Ruth), Blackshear; a sister, Wanelle Davis (husband Joe), Patterson and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Onie Thornton
Onie Thornton, 74, of Blackshear, died Sunday evening, August 1, 2004, at the Pierce County Nursing Home after an extended illness.
She was a native of Wayne County, but had lived most of her life in Pierce County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dalton Albert Thornton and Alice Jewell Thornton and by a brother Owen Thornton.
She was a homemaker and had worked on the family farm for many years. She attended Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Wayne County.
Survivors include four sisters, Unavee Courson, Blackshear; Vera Johnson (husband Ernest), Patterson, Jannie Johnson (husband Travis), Blackshear, and Winnie T. Youmans, Wadley; three brothers, Flem Thornton, Blackshear, Quinton Thornton and Jean Raulerson, Blackshear, and Winton Thornton (wife Wilma), Blackshear and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. (today) Wednesday, August 4, from the Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Wayne County.
