Gladys Marie Milledge
Gladys Marie Milledge, 56, of Blackshear, died suddenly Saturday afternoon, July 17, 2004, at her home.
A native and lifelong resident of Pierce County, she was a daughter of the late Zollie Eaddy and Edna Milledge.
She worked as a caterer for many years, then later became a child care provider for the Steedley family of Blackshear, where she worked until she became disabled.
She was a member of the Union Chapel Baptist Church in Mershon and was an honorary member of Greater St. James A.M.E. Church and Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church of Blackshear.
Survivors include two sons, James Brown Jr. (Juanita) and Douglas D. Wilcox, Waycross; two brothers, James W. Wilcox (Claudia), Blackshear and Ellis Milledge, Miami, FL; two sisters, Ellen Jackson, Cleveland, OH and Glenda Walker, Jesup; two aunts, Nedderick Williams (E.C.), Blackshear and Jehovia Miller, Miami; one uncle, Melvin Clark; Hawkinsville; five grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24, from the Greater St. James A.M.E. Church in Blackshear with the Rev. Thomas J. Greene officiating.

Grace Wommack Morris
Grace Wommack Morris, age 89, of Hazlehurst, passed away July 14, 2004 in the Pierce County Nursing Home in Blackshear
A native of Jeff Davis County, she was of the Church of God faith, and was a home maker. She was the daughter of the late Harris and Mollie Powell Wommack and the widow of Tommy Morris.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Annette Morris, Blackshear; sisters, Carolyn Sellers, hazlehurst, and Marjorie Ponsell, Brunswick; a brother, Sam Wommack, Hazlehurst; three grandchildren Sherri Adams, Jerri Davis and Terri O’Connor; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 16 from the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with the Rev. Dewitt Corbin officiating.

Casey M. Henderson
Casey M. Henderson, 58, of Patterson, died suddenly Tuesday morning, July 13, 2004, in the Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross.
A native of Charlton Co., his parents were Dock C. Henderson and Georgia Thrift Henderson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Byrd Henderson.
He was retired from CSX railroad and had started when it was ACL. He was a past member of the South Georgia Eagles, Inc. and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sons, Clint Robert Henderson and Paul David (Kellie) Henderson, both of Waycross; three grandchildren, Casey Ray, Kirstyne and Kindell Henderson of Waycross; a brother, Wayne Henderson, the Riverside Community; nephews, Darryl, Tony, Glenn and Eric Henderson and several other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 16, from the chapel of Chambless-Frye Funeral Home in Nahunta.

James Wilson Rooks
James Wilson Rooks, 71, of Screven, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, in the Wayne Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
A native of Pierce County, he was born December 2, 1932, to James Dalton and Gladys Hall Rooks. He graduated from Patterson High School in 1949 and was a member of Screven First Baptist Church. He was very active in the community, serving on the board of directors for the National Farmers Organization, Wayne County Young farmers and the Wayne County Farm Service. He also served several years as the Vice President of the Wayne County Farm Bureau and loved farming, raising hogs, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Lucile Ray Rooks, Screven; two daughters and a son-in-law, Denise and Roy Powers, Lakeland, FL, and Suzanne Teston, Jesup; four sons and three daughters-in-law; Derral Glen and Susan Rooks, Dudley, Wilson Leslie and Melanie Rooks, Okeechobee, FL, Kenny and Lynn Sapp, and Clifton Sapp, all of Screven; two sisters and brothers-in-law; Adair and Dave Fryer, Nashville, TN, Wanda and Lawrence Howard, Patterson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Randall and Reba Rooks, Snellville, and Lester and Tiny Rooks, Ft. Pierce, FL; 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; three godchildren, Angie Brewton and Ron Burch, both of Screven, and Joy Burch, Washington, D.C. and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, from the Screven First Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Deloach, the Rev. Tim Rowell, and Harold Delk officiating.

Glenn Darvis Harrison
Glenn Darvis Harrison, 73, died Wednesday afternoon, July 7, 2004, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross after a brief illness.
He was a native of Bacon County but had lived many years in St. Marys, before moving back to Bacon County in 1974. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Eunice Sellers Harrison, and by a brother Kenneth Harrison.
He was a retired supervisor with Gilman Paper Co. in St. Marys. He was also a farmer in the Coffee Community of Bacon County. He attended several churches in Bacon and Camden Counties. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jessie P. Harrison, Alma; two sons, Terry Harrison and Tony Harrison (wife Dawn) all of Alma; three grandchildren Kevin, Hope and Stephen Harrison, all of Alma, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10 from the chapel of Smith Funeral Home.

Betty Ann Johnson Treadwell Pearson
Betty Ann Johnson Treadwell Pearson, 71, of Blackshear passed away early Friday afternoon, July 9, 2004, at her residence following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
A native of Pierce County, she had lived all over the United States and abroad when married
to her first husband, the late Major M. Leon Treadwell, while he served in the US Army.
She had been a resident of Blackshear for the last 37 years. She was a graduate of Blackshear High School and Georgia Baptist Nursing School where she received her degree as a registered nurse. She worked for many years at the Pierce County Hospital before working at the Pierce County Health Department as the nurse manager until her retirement in August of 1996.
After her retirement she continued to work with her husband, Bernard, at their family business, Pearson-Treadwell Funeral Home. She was a member of the Blackshear First United Methodist Church where she had been active for many years and was in the Wesley I Sunday School Class. She was also a member of two supper clubs, the Blackshear Supper Club and “The Supper Club”.
She was an active member of the P.E.O., the Wednesday Bridge Club and the Red Hat Society. She was a daughter of the late Allen Jesse and Susie Dixon Johnson. Also preceding her in death besides her parents and first husband, were her three brothers, Gene Johnson, Billy Johnson and Robert “Bobby” Johnson.
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Bernard S. Pearson, Blackshear; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and George Oberschlake, Perry, FL and Sharon and Wade Dial, Blackshear; two sons and daughters-in-law, Marc and Wimberly Treadwell, Macon, and Blake and Dee Treadwell, Blackshear; ten grandchildren, Will, Ed and Nicole Oberschlake, all of Perry; Thomas and John Treadwell, both of Macon and Erica, Alex and Lance Treadwell and Audrey and Pearson Dial, all of Blackshear; her mother-in-law, Elizabeth P. Manning, Blackshear; a sister-in-law, Jean Dixon, Blackshear; a nephew, Mike (Wanda) Johnson, Blackshear; her two precious pets, “Molly” and “Missy”, and several other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday morning, July 12, from the Blackshear First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Freddie Wheeler, the Rev. Dr. Bill Young and the Rev. Roger Mays officiating.

Sue Davis Lick
Sue Davis Lick died at the age of 84 on April 30, 2004, after a short illness at the home of her daughter, Linda Kaloustian who resides in Southampton, PA.
She was born in Blackshear, and her parents were Archibald Davis and Fannie Jones Davis. She lived in Blackshear until her late teens when she moved to Jacksonville, FL. In 1945, she married
George R. Lick and after a few years moved to the greater Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania. She spent many years working with the elderly in the health care system. After retiring in 1995 she went to live with her daughter Linda Kaloustian where she resided until her death.
She was preceded in death by a son, Joe Lick, who died in 1993, and by her brother and sisters, Joe Davis, Bonnie Davis Groover, Iva Lee Davis Lewis, Essie Davis Chaney, Dewey Davis, Nellie Davis Dubberly, Hobert Davis, Claude Davis and Olive Davis. Also preceding Mrs. Lick in death were the spouses of her brother and sisters and several nieces and nephews who were greatly loved and a vital part of her life.
Survivors in addition to her daughter include a son, George R. Lick, Brunswick. Her seven grandchildren as well as her great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, will sorely miss her.
Memorialization was by cremation. Her ashes were brought to Blackshear where his heart always remained.

Mary Ann Brannon
Mary Ann Brannon, 66, of Blackshear, passed away late Monday evening, June 28, 2004, at the Pierce County Nursing Home after an extended illness.
She was born in Brantley County and attended grammar school in Hoboken. She was a handicapped child and discontinued school in her early years. She lived with her brother and sister-n-law, Rob and Ella Hunter, in Hoboken after the death of her parents, James Leonard and Agnes Youmans Hunter Brannon. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Rob Hunter and by her grandmother, Rilla Raulerson Youmans. For the past fifteen years she had been a resident of the Pierce County Nursing Home. She was also a member of Truth Tabernacle.
Survivors include three sisters, Winnie Oliver and Dot (Charles) Thrift, all of Waycross and Anita Kestner, North Fayetteville, NC; a brother, Jim (Edith) Hunter, Blackshear; a sister-in-law, Ella Hunter, Hoboken; her aunt, Aline “Aunt Tump” Childress, Waycross; six nieces and nephews, Nita Barwick, Tina Dykes, Rita Roberson, Mike Prescott, Danny Thrift and Michelle Price and several other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 1, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel with the Rev. Charles Jury officiating.

Henry Lee Christopher Edmonson
Master Henry Lee “Christopher” Edmonson, 5 week-old infant, of Blackshear passed away Monday, June 28, 2004, at his residence.
Born in Waycross, on May 22, 2004, he was the son of Henry and Jennifer Catlin Edmonson of Blackshear.
In addition to his parents, survivors include four sisters, Kenyatta Hicks and Brianna Eaddy, both of Blackshear and Tasha Edmonson and Natasha Edmonson, both of Fitzgerald; his maternal grandparents, James and Christine Short, Madison, IN; his paternal grandparents, Henry and Angella Edmonson, Fitzgerald and Darius and Doris McRae, Fitzgerald and several other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, from the graveside at the Waters cemetery with the Rev. Mike Stone officiating.
