Donald David Godwin
Donald David Godwin, 55, died suddenly late Saturday evening, July 3, 2004, from injuries sustained in a traffic accident on U.S. Highway 84 at “Clough Curve”.
A native of Pierce County, he had lived in Pierce and Ware Counties all of his life. He was disabled and was a member of the Life Christian Center. He was a son of the late Richard R. and Annie Louise Taylor Godwin.
Survivors are a sister, Ellen Laverne Hineline, Waycross; two brothers, James Elmo Godwin, Bryceville, FL. William Godwin, Blackshear and several other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel with Elder Hubert W. Chapman Sr. officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the St. John’s Cemetery.

Donna Lynn Cranfill
Donna Lynn Cranfill, 47, of Miramar, FL, passed away Friday evening, July 2, 2004, at the Joe Dimaggio Hospital in Hollywood, FL following a sudden illness.
Born in Bethesda, Maryland, she had lived in Florida most of her life. She had worked as the head of the Custodial Department for the Broward County Board of Education and was of the Episcopal faith. She was a daughter of the late John Henry and Barbara Campbell Cranfill and was also preceded in death by a brother, Gary Michael Cranfill.
Survivors are her companion, Sara Jane Riley, Miramar; two brothers, David (wife Marcie) Cranfill, Blackshear and Robert James, Decker, IN.; two sisters, Betty Sims, Blackshear and Susan Passmore, Patterson; nieces and nephews, Jonathan Cranfill, Michael Goldman, Brooke Cranfill, Kayla Brigman, Stephanie Passmore, Aaron Simmons, Lavenia Simmons, Terri James, David O’Neal Jr. and Brandy Herrin. There are several other relatives and many, many friends.
A memorial service for Miss Cranfill will be held on Saturday, July 17, in Miramar.

Evelyn Little Douberly
Evelyn Little Douberly, 81, of Hortense, passed away early Sunday morning, July 4, 2004, at the Pierce County Nursing Home.
A native and life-long resident of Wayne County, she was a homemaker and a member of the Little Memorial Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Rev. E. L. and Queenie Crosby Little and was also preceded in death by her husband, John Richard Douberly Sr. She will be remembered as being a devoted mother whose life was her children and family.
Survivors are a daughter, Betty (Cassel “Bill”) Matthey, Lumberport, WV; six sons, Joe (Edna) Douberly, John R. Jr. (Vicki) Douberly, Clarence Douberly, Donald (Jewell) Douberly and Wendell (Gail) Douberly, all of Browntown and Ralph (Theresa) Douberly, Blackshear; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, from the Little Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Brown and the Rev. Edward Colley officiating.

Vivian Coleman Starling
Vivian M. Coleman Starling, 76, of Pikeville, KY, died Sunday morning, July 4, 2004, in Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pike County March 21, 1928, the daughter of the late Chauncey Coleman and Callie Thacker Coleman. In addition to her parents, her husband, Middie Starling, also preceded her in death.
She was a school teacher, member of Eastern Star, active in the First Baptist Church in Blackshear, where she served as youth leader, nursery teacher, and a member of the Women’s Baptist Group. She was also active in the Democratic Party and served as an election officer.
Survivors include two brothers Vernon Glenn Coleman (Darlene) and Charles H. Coleman (Herb), both of Lower Pompey; two sisters, Geraldine (Lester) Walker, Pikeville, KY and Juanita Jones, Monroe, MI; 17 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, from the chapel with Keith Kasarjian officiating.
Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.

Macie Rae Griffin
Macie Rae Griffin, newborn daughter of Mac and Beth Jernigan Griffin, passed away Monday, June 14, 2004, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross.
Survivors in addition to her parents are a sister, Maggie Griffin, Waycross; her maternal grandparents, Thom and Martha Humphries, Waycross and Robert and Mary Jernigan, Valdosta; her paternal grandparents, Clint and Dana Griffin, Waycross; her paternal great-grandparents, Mavis Griffin, Waycross, Donnie and Jean Register, Moultrie and Johnny and Ruth Greene, Albany; her maternal greatgrandparents, Jack and Lois Smithwick, Adrian, GA and numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives.
Funeral services for Macie were held at 10 a.m. Thursday morning, June 17, from the graveside at the Piney Grove cemetery in Ware County.

Adrian Harris Riggins
Adrian Harris Riggins, 82, of Blackshear, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at the Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross after an extended illness.
A native of Pierce County, he had lived most of his life in Washington, D.C. before moving back to Pierce County this year.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Martha King Harris, and his adopted mother, Mattie Riggins Eunice.
He was a retired dietician at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. and was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by a sister, Nell Weaver (husband Raymond), Fort Worth, TX and a nephew, Dan Cason (wife Ann), Blackshear and several other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 17, from the chapel of Smith Funeral Home.

Ina Faye Howell
Ina Faye Mobley Howell, 62, died Wednesday morning, June 16, 2003, at her residence after an extended illness.
She was a native of Hazlehurst, but had lived most of her life in Ware County before moving to Pierce County in 1999. She was preceded in death by her parents Mike and Louise Cowart Mobley; a daughter, Donna Jean McClellan and two brothers, Horris Mobley and Buck Roberts.
She was formerly employed with Spatola Shoe Factory. She was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle Church in Waycross.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Howell Jr., Blackshear; four daughters, Becky Jones (husband Curtis), Brenda Griner (husband Bobby), Barbara Morgan (husband Robert), all of Blackshear and Genia Morgan (husband Owen), Hilliard, FL; two sons, Robert “Boss Man” Howell III (wife Diana), Hilliard, FL, and Daniel Thomas Morgan, Blackshear; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Frederick Roberts (wife Beth); four sisters, Betty Thornton, Waycross, Vadia Tucker, Blackshear, Iris Eaststep, Louisiana, and Louise Hope, Douglas; two sisters-in-law, Linda R. Accord, Blackshear and Yvonne Higginbotham, Homeland, FL and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 18, from the Gospel Tabernacle in Waycross.

Robert C. Clark, 87, of Ocala, FL, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, in Ocala.
A son of the late Jody and Janie Riggins Clark, he was born in Blackshear on June 8, 1917. He was a retired autobody repairman and painter for Marion Motor Company and Superior Autobody.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, from the Roberts Funeral Homes, Downtown Chapel, in Ocala with Wayne Yancey and Colin Williamson officiating.

Ida Herrin Manning Strickland
Ida Herrin Manning Strickland, 86, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2004, at the Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in Brunswick after a long illness.
A native and life-long resident of Pierce County, she attended schools in Pierce County. During World War II she worked at the Brunswick Shipyard building Liberty Ships and continued to manage her family farm. She was a charter member of Twin Rivers Baptist Church where she taught the young peoples training union during the sixties and seventies. The Twin Rivers community lost a beloved member who will be remembered for her unwavering strength in adversity, her quick wit, her delicious home cooking and her open door hospitality. She was a daughter of the late Moses and Mary Elizabeth Cason Herrin and was also preceded in death by her first husband, T. J. Manning Sr., who passed away in 1943; by her second husband, Lacy Strickland, who passed away in 1963 and by all of her brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Norma Manning Payne and husband, Dr. Peter Payne, Augusta; four sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Hubert Manning and wife, Gail, St. Simons Island, Tyrus J. Manning Jr. and wife, Marian, Nahunta, Bobby L. Strickland and wife, Susan, Winston-Salem, NC and Wain Strickland and wife, Robin, Brunswick; 11 grandchildren, Catherine Manning Doxey, Steve Manning, Laura Payne Baugham, Margaret Payne Siegel, Morgan Manning Crabb, Tyrus J. Manning III, Holly Manning Wood, Heather Manning, Chris Strickland, Lacy Strickland Rondeau and Zachary Strickland; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Doris Manning Aldrich, Patterson and Dorothy Lynn Doty, Jacksonville, FL and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Robert Lee McKnight
Robert Lee McKnight, 87, died early Sunday morning, June 20, 2004, at the Pierce County Nursing Home after an extended illness.
A native of Boil, MS, he had lived in Mississippi and Louisiana for many years before moving to Blackshear in 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Ruben McKnight and Jessie Elizabeth Tucker McKnight. He was retired as plant supervisor for West Vaco, a paper bag manufacturer in Charleston, SC. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Blackshear. He was also a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years Maybelle McKnight, Blackshear; a daughter, Shelby Dean (husband Dub), Blackshear; a son Robert G. McKnight (wife Shelly), Blackshear; eight grandchildren Cindy Buie (husband Greg), Hoboken, Michael Dean (wife Melissa), Blackshear, Michelle Sanders (husband Jeremy) of Blue Eye, MO, Melanie Patrick (husband Danny), West Monroe, LA, Christy McKnight and Amanda McKnight, both of Blue Eye, Jesse McKnight and Chantel McKnight, both of Blackshear; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a brother Eddie Lee McKnight (wife Mayble), West Monroe, LA; a sister, Lillie Mae Havis (husband Dick), Alexandria, LA and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
