Vera Runa Kinman, age 82, of Mars Hill Road passed away on Friday, January 28, 2005.
A native of Oconee County, Mrs. Kinman was the daughter of the late Vester and Essie Roberts Brewer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. Kinman and son Harry David Kinman. Mrs. Kinman retired from Dairy Pac and was a member of the Mars Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters and sons in law Debbie and Gregg Austin and Christine and Danny Horne both of Bogart; son and daughter in law Bobby and Mary Kinman of Watkinsville; brother Mell Brewer of Arnoldsville; sister Nell Thomas of Watkinsville; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM Monday at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Davison officiating. iIntermentwill follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7-9 PM Sunday at Bernstein.
Pallbearers will be Todd Kinman, Travis Horne, Brad Horne, Herman Fields, Brent Ki+-nman and Jerry Thomas.

Connie Marshall McEver

Watkinsville, GA
Connie Marshall McEver, 44, of Rose Drive, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2005.
A native of Clarke County, Ms. McEver was the daughter of Clete and Dorothy Jean Miller Marshall. A son, Michael Henry McEver, preceded her in death and she was a member of Living Word Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to her parents include the father of her children, Anthony Mitchell McEver of Watkinsville; 2 sons, Antonio M. McEver of Sumpter, SC and Anthony Nathan McEver of Athens; a brother, Clete E. Marshall, Jr. of Athens; 3 sisters, Rita Caldwell of Colbert, Tammy Peters of Monroe and Lisa Edwards of Watkinsville.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 Tuesday January 18th at Living Word Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Davison and Rev. Stevie Coombs officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the home of Clete and Dorothy Marshall, 1141 Rose Drive Watkinsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Living Word Baptist Church Building Fund.

Arthur Sturgill
1919-2004
Arthur E. Sturgill, Sr., 85, of 801 Riverhill Drive died Thursday, May 13, 2004.
A native of Keokee, Virginia, Mr. Sturgill was a son of the late Isaac Newton and Lakie B. Fletcher Sturgill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Curtis Strain Sturgill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II and Korea. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 22 years of service. He was a member of the Friendship Christian Church of Athens. After his retirement Mr. Sturgill was a long time resident of Clearwater and while living there was a member of the Disciples of Christ Central Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons: Arthur Sturgill, Jr. of Athens, and Frank Sturgill of Marietta; daughter, Judith Gayler of Texas; brother, Ralph Sturgill of Huntsville, AL; eight grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
Memorial Services will be held 6:30 pm Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at the Friendship Christian Church with the Rev. Elizabeth DeWeese officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the services.

William Griffeth "Bill" Kesler

William Griffeth “Bill” Kesler died May 23, 2005 at Athens Healthcare and Rehabilitation.
He was the son of the late Roy Lee and Lurlene Griffeth Kesler and was preceded in death by brothers John Lee Kesler, George Truett Kesler, Sr. and Roy Lanier “Buddy” Kesler.
He was a native of Madison County, Georgia but lived in Athens most of his life. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, veteran of World War II United States Naval Medical Corp serving with the Marines in Okinawa, Guam and Pacific Campaign in 1942 – 1945. He was the founder and co-owner of Kesler’s Chevron.
Surviving him are sisters, Geraldine “Deanie” Kesler Cunningham, Athens, Janelle Kesler Vickery, Winder and Jane Kesler Bramlett, Commerce; brothers, Austin A Kesler, Athens, Wendell M. Kesler, Columbus, Donald E. “Don” Kesler, Hull and a number of nieces and nephews.
Nephews will be serving as pallbearers: Danny Kesler, George Kesler, Mark Cunningham, David Vickery, Lane Kesler, Jay Kesler, Eddie Kesler and Jim Bramlett.
Graveside services will be held 11 am Wednesday, May 25 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in the Neese Community.
Visitation will be at Bernstein Funeral Home 6 -8 pm Tuesday, May 24.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Heart Fund, Diabetes Foundation, WWII Memorial Washington, DC or a charity of one’s choice.

William Ambrose Starkey

William Ambrose Starkey, 81, 240 Roberts Road, died on Monday, May 9, 2005.
A native of Folsom, West Virginia, Mr. Starkey was the son of the late Catherine and Broze Starkey. He was preceded in death by his wife Emily Camp Starkey, a sister, Pauline Bissett and brother, Rutherford Starkey. Mr. Starkey was a retired Merchant marine, served in the United States Navy during WWII and was a member of Oconee Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include stepson, Joseph Stephens of Baltimore, MD; sisters, Helen Ashcroft, Lucille Hood and Violet Hayhurst, all of West Virginia; special friends, Barbara Jean and Peter Bertot.
Funeral services will be held 11 am Wednesday May 11 in the Chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Crist Camden officiating. iIntermentwill follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bob Hood, Peter Bertot, Jay Jaysingh, Bruce Payne, Tim Payne and Jonathan Cudnik.

Miguel Angel Flores Gonzales infant son of Miguel Angel Flores and Alexandra Gonzales died Thursday, April 7, 2005. Funeral services will be 11AM Monday at Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors in addition to parents are sisters Iris and Yvette Gonzales of Athens.

Robbie Lee Stone Jr.
1924-2004
Lawrenceville, GA - Robbie Lee Stone, Jr., 79, died April 28, 2004 at home in Lawrenceville.
A native of Athens, Bob was the son of the late Robbie Lee and Emma Eberhart Stone. He graduated from Athens High School in 1941, where he was the 1st Lt. Commanding Officer in the ROTC band. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. As a student at Georgia Tech University, he was a member of Sigma Chi. After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1950, he married
Dolores Walker in 1952. In 1955, he started Stone Foods Company, a wholesale food distributing company that served Athens and the surrounding areas for over 25 years. He served as a deacon at the Campus View Church of Christ and was an active member for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores Walker Stone, of Lawrenceville; two daughters and sons-in-law: Karen and Ed Townsend of Lawrenceville, Debra and Bob Storey of Broadway, NC; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Juanita Stone and Jere Clark of Marietta, Priscilla Stone and Sonny Catoe of Athens; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Jerry and Joan Walker of Statesville, NC, Donald Walker of Panama City, FL; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; five nieces and two nephews.
The funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel with Edward Townsend and Mark Brock officiating. Graveside services will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Velma Ruth Turner Bryan

Athens, GA - Velma Ruth Turner Bryan, 95, of Lanier Gardens, Riverhill Drive, Athens, GA passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital following a brief illness.
A native of Moultrie, GA (Colquitt County), born on December 25, 1908, Mrs. Bryan was the only daughter of the late Jesse Lafayette and Beulah Alice Christian Turner. Her husband of forty eight years, Thomas Cortez Bryan, preceded her in death on October 8, 1980. A brother, Dr. C.O. Turner of Athens, also predeceased her. Mrs. Bryan moved to Bowman, GA, with her family at the age of eight where she graduated from Bowman High School and attended Georgia State Teachers College in Athens. She was a former teacher in Hart County Schools primarily at the Goldmine and Eagle Grove Schools, former member and pianist at Holly Springs Baptist Church, also worked at the Quality Sewn Products in Royston, and was employed by Shoney's on the Atlanta Highway for over 26 years (retiring in 2000) as cashier and hostess. She was a past member and secretary of local chapter AARP, past president of Terrace Garden Club, and a volunteer for Red Cross for a number of years. Ruth and Cortez were members of Prince Avenue Baptist Church since moving to Athens in 1972. She was a member of XYZ, the Faith Sunday School Class and had worked with the food committee for over 18 years.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law: Elizabeth 'Liz' and John Winn of Athens and Shirley and COL (Ret) Richard W. Brown of Falls Church, VA; brother, James Morris Turner of Napa, CA; grandchildren: Bryan Winn of Athens; Richard Brown, Jr. and wife Lisa of Americus; Pattie Brown Smith and husband Greg of Columbus; one great-grandson, Dallas Clayton Cox of Columbus; and a very special companion of several years, Mr. Bob Ely of Lanier Gardens. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held 2PM Saturday at Prince Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Ricketts and Rev. Doug Nix officiating. iIntermentwill follow in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Bowman, GA.
