Services for Lonnie Lemuel Adams of Scotland, formerly of Glenwood, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 28 in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with interment in the Glenwood Cemetery.
Adams, 63, died Friday, May 26, 2006. He was the son of the late A.L. and Martha Poole Adams and was married to Marie Smith Adams. He was preceded in death by daughters, Tina Marie Adams and Jeannie Kay Adams.
A native of Wheeler County, he lived most of his life in Telfair County. He was a retired logger and was a member of the Church of God of Glenwood.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Michael (Brenda) Adams, both of Scotland; brothers, Jerry Adams of Swainsboro, Randall Adams of Dublin, Billy Adams of Eastman, and Rudy Adams of Tifton; sister, JoAnn Truett of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, LeighAnn McVey, Sean Adams, D.J. Allen, Joshua Poole and Jacob Poole; and great-grandchildren, Brianna Kay McVey, Brandon Hunter McVey, and Shane Hunter Adams.

Vernon R. Howell
Services for Vernon R. Howell of Savannah were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 27 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Wheeler County with interment in the Dillard Cemetery, also in Wheeler County.
The Rev. H.W. Miller and the Rev. Joseph McLeod officiated.
Howell, 54, died Monday, May 22, 2006 at Meadows Memorial Hospital of Vidalia. He was the son of the late Tobias Howell and Mamie Howell of Lumber City, and was married to Janie Blige Howell of Savannah.
Born in Wheeler County, he received his education at Wheeler County High School, and went on to receive a degree in science from Atlanta Medical College. He moved to Washington, D.C. and worked for the FBI and Alexandria Hospital as a laboratory technician for many years.
In addition to his wife and his mother, survivors include his daughters, Tiffany Reedus and LaToya Howell of Houston, Texas; step-daughter, Malonie Smith of Savannah; sisters, Minnie P. Howell of East Orange, N.J., and Gaynelle Towle of Hinesville; devoted sisters, Bettye H. Robinson, and Janice H. Wilcox of Lumber City, and Wanda H. Luten of Dublin; brothers, Tobie J. Howell of Savannah and Donnell Howell of Lumber City; grandchildren, Trinity Reedus and Jaylen Reedus of Houston, Texas; step-grandchildren, Shanawtica Wright, Mario Smith, and Yeshasia Smith of Savannah; two devoted aunts, Ida Mae Burnette and Annie Balcom; in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Blige Jr.; sisters-in-law, Mary Anne Jones, Cynthia Tiggs, Linda Cohen, Virginia Hudson, Lorranie Blige, Chairman Howell, and Alberta Howell; brothers-in-law, David Blige, Zachary Blige, Willie Blige, Author Mitchell and Eddie Wilcox; son-in-law, Rev. Eldora Cooper Smith
Services for Eldora Cooper Smith of Macon were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 25 at Hart’s Mortuary with interment in Middle Georgia Memory Gardens in Macon.
The Rev. Randy Dudley officiated.
Smith, 76, died Monday, May 22, 2006 after an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Seward and Annie Cooper and was married to William O. Smith. She was preceded in death by sisters, Eunice Yawn and Iris Cravey and brothers, Milton Cooper and James Cooper.
Born and educated in Telfair County, she was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Macon, was a member of AARP, and enjoyed watching the Thursday Senior’s Bowl.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her daughter, Patricia (Mike) Daniel and grandson, Lance Daniel, all of Macon; sisters, Ruby Giddens and Luree Fussell, both of Jacksonville, Ga., and a number of nieces and nephews.

Rodney Stafford
Services for Rodney Stafford of Alamo were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 31 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.
Stafford, 52, died Thursday, May 25, 2006. He was the son of Eldridge Stafford of Cherokee, N.C. and Henrilea Masterson of Scotland, Ga.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his step-parents, Ray Masterson of Scotland and Dorothy Masterson of Cherokee, N.C.; one son, William Stafford of Alamo; brothers, Samuel (Gwen) Stafford of Byron; Michael (Diane) Stafford of Ft. Hood, Texas, Henry Stafford of Scotland, Ga. and Hugh Stafford of Glenwood.

William J. Brooks

Brooks, 90, died Saturday, May 20, 2006 in Monticello, Fla.
He was a native of Telfair County and had lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. for many years. He moved to Havana in 2004, and retired after 37 years with Withers Van Lines. He was a Baptist and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gloria Brooks; daughters, Diane Billings of Concord, Calif., Gloria Cooper of Florence, Ky., and Colleen Meringolo of Havana; sons, Billy Brooks of Rhode Island, Russell Brooks of San Antonio, Texas, and Jeff Brooks of San Francisco, Calif.; 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

Colonel James
Services for Colonel James of Helena were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20 at Corinth CME Church in McRae with interment in the Friendship Baptist Church cemetery in Eastman.

James, 51, died Monday, May 15, 2006 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. He was the son of Sol and Mae Etta James, and was married to Helen James.
Born in Wheeler County he was educated in the Wheeler County school system and attended Abraham Baldwin College in Tifton. He was employed by American Yard Products, agricultural endeavors, and at the time of his death, was employed by MGCCA Agency of Warner Robins as a transit driver. He was a member of Mt. Zion CME Church, and went into the ministry of the CME faith under Rev. Carlee Stafford.
In addition to his wife, survivors include sons, Donnie and Rickie Height of Warner Robins; sisters, Addie Graham and Rebecca Fancher of Patterson, N.J., Grace (Travis) Dawkins of Alamo, and Earlene James of Fort Worth, Texas; loving and devoted cousin, Ella Pearl (Tommy)Wright of McRae; special niece, Shelonda Martin of Alamo; sisters-in-law, Ellen (Willie T.) Tobler and Barbara Height; brothers-in-law, Herbert and William Height Jr. of Alamo, and Barry Mason Sr. of Columbus; also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services for Birdie Irene Minshew of Rhine were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20 in the Rhine United Methodist Church with burial in Bay Springs Cemetery.
Minshew died Wednesday, May 17, 2006 in Macon.

Southerland, 55, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. He was the son of the late Carl F. Southerland and Lucy M. Southerland.

Wrye died Saturday, May 13, 2006 in Ft. Valley.

Curtis B. Higingbotham
Services for Curtis B. Higingbotham of Eastman were held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 12 in the McRae First United Methodist Church in McRae with interment in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Eastman.
Higingbotham, 83, died Wednesday, May 10, 2006. He was the son of the late William and Lena Higingbotham, and was the widower of Nancy Higingbotham. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Higingbotham and grandchildren, Stan Higingbotham, Stephanie Higingbotham, and Jason Turner.
He served in Japan in the Army during WWII. He was a member of the Eastman First Baptist Church and a long time member of the American Legion, where he served as State Commander for two years. He was retired from Robins Air Force Base and Eastman Shoe Shop.
Survivors include his son, Johnny (Ann) Higingbotham of McRae, and Tommy (Lori) Higingbotham of Santa Cruz, Calif.; five grandchildren, Brandi Seabolt and Wendy Higingbotham of Helena, Aaron Turner of Santa Cruz, Calif., Andy Burress of Eastman, and Jodi Burress of McRae; brother, Oscar Higingbotham of Akin, S.C.; and seven great-grandchildren.
