Mr. Norman E. Housley, Jr., age 73, of Buford, GA passed away on Friday, January 14, 2011. He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Mrs. Ellen M. Housley, Buford, GA; daughter, Dana Housley Sheridan, Atlanta, GA; sons and daughter-in-law, Chris and Christiane Housley, Suwanee, GA and Michael E. Housley, Atlanta, GA; and five grandchildren, Craig Sheridan, Britany Curtis, Christopher Housley, Matthew Housley and Helena Housley. Mr. Housley was born August 23, 1938 in Washington, DC. He was a 1956 graduate of Lakeland High School in Lakeland, FL and graduated from Florida State University. He was the retired owner of Housley Benefits. After he retired, he went to work with his son at Housley Enterprise to which is a local, successful Suwanee based company. He was a member of the Gideon’s. Mrs. Hazel Bryant Smith, age 69, of Flowery Branch, GA passed away on Friday, January 14, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Smith, Jr. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jerry Anglin, Buford, GA; sons and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Angel Bryant, Alto, GA, Jeffery Bryant, Flowery Branch, GA and Gerald Bryant, Gainesville, GA; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Lucille Bryant, Chestnut Mountain, GA; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Opal Pugh Martinez, age 86, of Buford, GA passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Wesley and Eunice Fuller Pugh; brother, James Richard Pugh; step- mother, Lola Vann Pugh; and sister-in-law, Dorothy “Dot” Pugh. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Helen and Doug Williams, Buford, GA; son, Tony Martinez, Smyrna, GA; grandchildren, Connie Dennis, Gainesville, GA and Douglas Ray Williams, Jr., Gainesville, GA; four great grandchildren, Matthew and Christopher Dennis and Madison and Mackenzie Williams; brothers, Douglas Pugh, Commerce, GA, Paul “Bud” Pugh, Suwanee, GA and Jimmy Pugh, Lawrenceville, GA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Gene Crowe, age 78, of Winder, GA and formerly of Buford, GA passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, W. C. and Emelene Cain Crowe; sisters, Virginia Prickett and Gladys Hutchins; brothers, Ralph Crowe, Ray Crowe, Lloyd Crowe and Everett Crowe; and step son, Benny Ford. He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Betty Crowe, Winder, GA; daughter, Shirley Corders; stepdaughter, Linda and Larry Turner, Adairsville, GA; six grandchildren, Chris and Becky Corders, Kirk and Kristy Corders, Keith Corders, Leiah and Kevin Harris, Larrin Thompson and Kenny Ford; eight grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Crowe was born September 22, 1932 in Buford, GA. He was a graduate of Joe Brown High School in Atlanta, GA. He was owner of G. W. C. Construction Co. in Buford, GA and a real estate agent. He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Shirley Clement Fields, Sugar Hill, GA; daughter, Sue Heard, Dacula, GA; son, Vernon Fields, Buford, GA; step daughter, Bruce Ann Green, Sylva, NC; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Jerry Kennedy, Carl, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Johnny and Jennie Clement, Inman, SC; sister-in-law, Mary Helen Clement, Whittier, NC; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Fields was born December 12, 1932 in Buford, GA. He was a graduate of Sugar Hill School in Sugar Hill, GA. He was retired after many years of service as a deputy sheriff and heavy equipment operator. He was a member of West Buford Baptist Church. Mr. Raymond Yancy Blackwood, age 91, of Cumming, GA passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Asbury and Manervia Jones Blackwood. He is survived by his children, Mary Robinson, Marietta, GA, James and Pam Blackwood, Rockmart, GA, Ewayne Blackwood, Cedartown, GA, Ricky Blackwood, Rockmart, GA and Marilan and Wayne Everett, Cumming, GA; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Raymond was born July 11, 1919 in Blount County, AL. He was a U. S. Navy and World War II veteran (44-46) serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign on U.S.S. LST-917. After leaving Alabama, Raymond and his family moved to Marietta, GA in 1963. He retired from Lockheed-Martin. Raymond spent his later years residing with his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Marilan and Wayne Everett in Cumming. Mrs. Ebaugh was born December 17, 1951 in Atlanta, GA. She was a 1969 graduate from Towers High School in Decatur, GA, attended DeKalb Junior College, and attended Atlanta Law School. Dale Clifford Drath, “Pappy”, age 80, of Jefferson, GA passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2011. He was preceded in death by father, Charles Albert Drath, mother, Martha May Drath, and brothers, Gene Drath and James Drath. He is survived by his wife, Lola Ann Drath, son and daughter-in-law, Dale A. Drath (Donna), daughter and son-in-law, Debra A. Jacoby (Dale), daughter and son-in-law, Diana M. Martin (Winfred), daughter and son-in-law, Dawn C. Ward (Robby), son and daughter-in-law, Daniel R. Drath (Andrea), daughter and son-in-law, Darla S. Cole (Bob), sisters, Marian Gale and Alice Sorter, twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Mr. Drath was born August 31, 1930 and was a native of Ohio. He moved to Georgia in 1982. He was a member of the Ohio Carpenters Union and Past President of the Maumee Valley Gun Collectors. He was an avid fisherman. He was a member of Peachtree Road Baptist Church in Suwanee, GA. Mr. W. R. “Dudge” Pruitt, age 79, of Buford, GA passed away on Friday, May 6, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl C. and Pearl Peevy Pruitt; brother, Glyndon “Nig” Pruitt; and sisters, Thelma Pruitt Mears, Vera Pruitt Coleman, Jane Pruitt Pealock, Mildred Pruitt Beard, Jackie Pruitt Etheridge, and Bertie Mae Pruitt Perkins. He is survived by his former wife of 23 years, Betty Jean Davis Pruitt, Buford, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Sheila Pruitt Falls, Knoxville, TN and Amy Pruitt Youngblood and Kevin Youngblood, Marietta, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Carl Jeffery and Kathy Pruitt, Buford, GA; grandchildren, Brian and Lea Falls, Natalie Falls, Brandon Falls, Grant Youngblood, Alec Youngblood and Jeff and Laura Pruitt; step granddaughter, Kirsten Nappi; sister, Hazel Pruitt Carroll, Lawrenceville, GA; special beloved friend, Elsie Anne Rome, Pride, LA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Pruitt was born July 22, 1931 in Buford, GA. He was a 1950 graduate of Buford High School in Buford. GA. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. He was a member of the Buford American Legion Post 127 where he was a former commander. He was a former Gwinnett County Commissioner from 1965 – 1972 and then was the first Gwinnett County Commission Chairman from 1969 – 1972. He also helped organize the Gwinnett County Police Department in the late 1960’s. Mr. Pruitt was a former employee of General Motors Assembly Plant and he owned and operated the Pruitt Shell Station in Buford for a number of years. He was a land developer. Mr. Pruitt was a 2008 inductee into the Hall of Fame at Buford High School. He was a member of the Buford Masonic Lodge #292 F. & A.M. and a former member of the Buford Lions Club. He was a long time member of the Buford First United Methodist Church in Buford, GA. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army 1949 – 1951 Korea 1951 – 1952. He was retired from Cabot Corporation after twenty-four years of service.
