A.W. Hinson
Graveside services for A.W. Hinson of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 15 in Erick Christian Church Cemetery in Wheeler County.
The Rev. Kenneth White, the Rev. Chuck Morgan and the Rev. Steve Frazier officiated.
Hinson, 84, died Friday, May 12, 2006. He was the son of the late Lonnie and Maude Bailey Hinson, and was married to Joyce Hinson of McRae.
He was born in Wheeler County and was an Air Force veteran of WWII, a retired farmer, and a member of Scotland Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter, Donna White of McRae; sons, Wayne Hinson and David Hinson, both of McRae; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Pat Miller and Helen Rice, both of Hemet, Ga.; and brothers, Malcom Hinson of Columbus, Harry Hinson of Andalusia, Ala., and Byron Hinson of Douglas.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Virginia Johnson
Services for Virginia Johnson of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13 at Glovers Grove Missionary Baptist Church with interment in the Helena Cemetery.
The Rev. Joseph McLeod officiated.
Johnson, 77, died Saturday, May 6, 2006. She was the daughter of the late Sally Ruth Lister and Fred Pickett and raised by Tom and Fannie Cummings. She was the widow of Lewis Johnson and was preceded in death by one grandchild. She was a native of Dodge County.
Survivors include her daughters, Cheryl Elaine Ward I and Karen Ruth Thomas, both of Atlanta; six grandchildren; two granddaughters raised by her, Cheryl Elaine Ward II and Alicia LaJune Pinson (Kenneth) of Atlanta; three great-grandsons raised by her, Johnathan Ward, Trenton Ward and Demarcus Hughes; a special great-great-granddaughter, LaGenia Ward; niece, Vernice Donner; 17 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; special aunt, Elvira Perry (Tim) of Albany; two uncles, Zollie Cummings (Carrie Mae) and Lonnie Jones; and a hose of friends and relatives.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

Edison H. Ray Sr
Services for Edison H. Ray Sr. of Rhine were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 13 at Bethel United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Phil Streetman and the Rev. Stan Ballew officiated.
Ray, 84, died Thursday, May 11, 2006. He was the son of the late Newton Albert and Ida Vaughn Ray and was married to Tilda G. Ray of Rhine for 62 years.
A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, he was a former policeman for the City of McRae, a retired farmer, member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a member of the Coffee Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughters, Charlotte Vestal of Vienna and Frankie Whittaker of Kingman, Ariz.; son, Edison Ray Jr., of Rhine; granddaughters, Sara Vestal, Celeste Whithead, Selena Ray and Janet Ray.
Vaughn Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

Dianne Sharon Gettler
Graveside services for Dianne Sharon Gettler, of Helena were held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 8 in the Harrelson Cemetery.
Bro. Ronald Harrelson officiated.
Gettler, 54, died Friday, May 5, 2006.
A native of Trinidad, Colo., Gettler was a retired RN and was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include a sister, Bonnie Van Etten; niece, Jennifer Van Etten; and a grandson, Christopher Michael Van Etten, all of Helena.
Vaughn Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

Marcus Colvin Harrison
Services for Marcus Colvin Harrison of Monticello were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6 at the Monticello Baptist Church in Monticello. Interment followed in West View Cemetery, also in Monticello.
Dr. Kerry Bunn, Dr. John Brown, Rev. Jimmy Horton, and Revs. Michael and Tabitha Parker officiated.
Harrison, 50, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta after an extended illness. He was the son of Frank and Elizabeth Kitchens Harrison of Jasper County, and was married to Sheilah Rogers Harrison of Monticello.
A lifelong resident of Jasper County, he served on the Monticello City Council and the Jasper County Board of Education. He was also City Manager for a time. He was a deacon and former choir member of the Monticello Baptist Church and attended the Monticello First United Methodist Church. He attended the University of Georgia where he played football and graduated from South Georgia College with a degree in Criminal Justice.
Harrison owned Covington Fence Company and had worked for the Georgia State Patrol in Helena for a number of years. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club and the Monticello Little Theater.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by son, Roger Harrison of Monticello; grandmother, Ruth Kelly Kitchens of Jasper County; brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve and Elaine Harrison of Danville and Rex and Becky Harrison of Covington; and nieces and nephews, Will and Marissa Hunter and Robin Hunter.
Serving as pallbearers were Bobby Norris, Danny Norris, Brooks Cunard, Kim Kitchens, Danny Wild, Bran Cunard, Daryl Bailey and David Bailey.
The family suggests memorials to the church of his/her choice.

Margaret Bass Hinson
Services for Margaret Bass Hinson of Alamo were held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 5 at Springhill United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
Hinson, 88, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006. She was the daughter of the late John B. and Alice Singleton Bass and was the widow of Charles Hughes Hinson. She was also preceded in death by grandson, Charles Scott Martin, and brother, J.B. Bass.
A native of Telfair County, she had lived most of her life in Wheeler County. She was a member of Springhill United Methodist Church and was a retired seamstress.
She is survived by daughters, Barbara Martin of McRae and Nancy (Rawleigh) Jackson of Bonaire; son, John (Ann) Hinson of Hickory, N.C.; sisters, Betty (Louie) Calhoun of Tarrytown and Helen Varnadoe of Alamo; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family appreciates contributions made to the Springhill Cemetery Fund, c/o Carolyn White, Rt. 2, Box 96, Alamo, Ga. 30411.

James Kinlow Jr.
Services for James Kinlow Jr. of Lumber City, were held Friday, May 5 in the chapel of King Brothers Funeral Home in Hazlehurst.
Kinlow, 90, was the eleventh child of 12 born to the late James and Lillian Kinlow. His parents and siblings preceded him in death.
He served his country by joining the U.S. Army from 1938 to 1946 as a member of the military police. During his European Campaign he was awarded two Bronze Star medals and one Silver Sharp Shooter Rifleman Star.
He is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and a devoted friend, Arnita McLain.
Kings Brothers Funeral Home of Hazlehurst was in charge of arrangements.

Allene Grimes Moye
Services for Allene Grimes Moye of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 at Greater Centilla Missionary Baptist Church in Helena with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. William Jackson officiated.
Moye, 72, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2006 at Dodge County Hospital in Eastman. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Grimes and Daisy Hamilton Grimes, and was the widow of Edward Moye, Sr.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia Moye of McRae, Grace (Thomas) Coats of Jacksonville, Fla., and Gwendolyn (Otis) Stewart of McRae; sons, Edward (Wilhemina) Moye of Lake City, Fla., Willie James (Gwen) Moye of Eastman, and Jerome (Emma Jewell) Moye of Helena; seven grandchildren she reared as her own, Ronald Moye of Daytona, Fla., Cassandra (Keith) White of McRae, Tommy (Dee) Williams of St. Petersburg, Fla., Rodriquez (Leigh) Lemon of Korea, Yukia (Carlos) Smiley of Americus, and Natarsha Moye and Carlos Moye, both of McRae; eight other grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers, Charlie Grimes of Arizona, Andrew (Lillie) Grimes of Sarasota, Fla., and Kenneth Grimes of Arizona; sister-in-law, Susie Royal of Dublin; god-daughter, Kim Grigley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

William Alex ‘Bill’ Spires
Services for William Alex “Bill” Spires of McRae, were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9 in the chapel at Lowe’s Funeral Home in Helena, with interment in Midway United Methodist Church cemetery.
The Rev. Alvin Lewis and Carey Knowles officiated.
Spires, 83, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006 at McRae Manor Nursing Home with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Joel Ross and Exie Smith Spires, and was married to Elizabeth Kinnett Spires. He was preceded in death by son, Joel Wayne Spires.
He was the owner of Spires Grocery and Tackle Shop for 45 years. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy, and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Spires was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in McRae.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, survivors include daughters, Marsha (Wayne) White of McRae and Christy (Chuck) Mitchell of Statesboro; son, Bill (Teresa) Spires Jr. of Marland, Okla.; brothers, George (Lucy) Spires of McRae, and Russell Spires of Savannah; sisters, Becky Walker of McRae, Celestine (Grover) Smith, Christine (Emory) Seay, both of McRae, and Vivian (J.W.) Cooper of Macon; grandchildren, Ginger White, Rachel Chason, David Spires, William, Margaret and Christa Mitchell, Joel Spires, Stephen Spires and Hope Owens; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
