Master Benjamen Luke Davis
Master Benjamen Luke Davis, 4, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Appling County. Benjamin was preceded in death by his cousin, Jaden Mumford.
Survivors include his parents, JoAnne A. and Charles Davis of Baxley; two brothers, Charles E. Davis, Jr. and Joshua D. Davis, both of Baxley; paternal grandparents, Ronda and Eddie Davis of Baxley; maternal grandparents, Jean Vincent of Vidalia and the late Wesley Vincent; aunts and uncles, Amanda and Dean Davis, Shan and Mitch Altman, Dana and Jimmy Graham, Julie and Kevin Mumford, Joel Graham, all of Baxley; cousins, Dean Davis III, Jay Davis, Stella Altman, Jayda Davis, Sydney Graham, Sophie Graham, John Steven Mumford; and God-parents, Kay and Paul Harrelson also survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Wiggins officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jack Gardner
Jack Gardner, 72, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2005 in the Appling Convalescent Center. He was born July 11, 1933 in Appling County and resided here all of his life. Jack was retired and worked at Bax Steel as a welder before his retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Jack was the son of the late Annie Lee Johnson and Thomas G. Gardner.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Gardner of Baxley; one sister, Hilda Brannen of Baxley; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Sellers of Baxley and Jeannette Swails of Nicholes; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Brown, the Rev. Charles Hutchenson and the Rev. Tom Westberry officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Omega Cemetery.

Henry F. (Runt) Hattrich
Henry F. (Runt) Hattrich, 87, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 in the Tattnall Healthcare System in Reidsville. He was a native of Sylvania, but he had resided in Appling County for the past 15 years. Hattrich was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II. He retired from Union Camp after 34 years of service, and was of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Hattrich of Baxley; two sons, James (Gail) Hattrich of Baxley and Charlie Hattrich of Bloomingdale; three grandchildren, Dillon Hattrich, Laurie Doughtry and Erin Wood; five great-grandchildren and two nieces also survive.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 27 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Osteen, the Rev. Charles Hutcheson and the Rev. Jimmy Bargeron officiating.
Active pallbearers were Jerry Seller, Jerry Lightsey, Terry Todd, Dennie Simmons, Lamar Leggett and Tommy Youmans.
Honorary pallbearers were all friends in attendance.

Joanne McMillan
Joanne McMillan, 61, died Thursday, Oct. 27 at her residence after an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Appling County and a member of Friendship Congregational Christian Church. Joanne was employed by Douglas and Harper and was a very dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vera Baxley and Ellie Lee Herndon and brother, Elmer Herndon.
She is survived by her husband, Quincy McMillan of Baxley; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Darrell Hope of Brunswick; two sons, Arlie (Lisa Mozingo) McMillan and Rodney McMillan; daughter-in-law, Trunetta McMillan of Baxley; five sisters, Frances Jones, Lillie Mae Beach, Dorothy Mincey, all of Baxley, Eva Jean Dubberly of Savannah and Mamie Herndon of Bogart; two brothers, Orville Herndon and George Herndon, both of Baxley; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11:00 a.m. from Friendship Congregational Christian Church with the Rev. Rick Brown and the Rev. Barry Teutsch officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Baxley Graveyard Cemetery.

Thomas Jefferson Reynolds
Thomas Jefferson Reynolds, 67, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005. Reynolds was born Nov. 15, 1937 to the late Maggie and George Henry Reynolds in Glenwood (Wheeler County).
He is survived by two sisters, Willie Mae Reynolds of Baxley and Elphia Mae Hargrave of Ft. Myers, Fla.; three brothers, Freddie Lee Reynolds of St. Petersburg, Fla., Robert Lawson of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Joseph Lawson of Baxley; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Lawson of Claxton and Daisy Bell Reynolds of Baxley; one brother-in-law, Sonny Hargrove of Ft. Myers, Fla.; two aunts, Rosie Kate and Audrey Thomas, both of Hazlehurst; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1:00 p.m. from St. John Church of God in Christ with Elder W. H. Solomon officiating.
Active pallbearers were Lee Otis Williams, Joseph Lawson, cousins and nephews.
Floral attendants were family and friends.

Pauline Beckworth
Pauline Beckworth, 96, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005 in the Appling HealthCare System after an extended illness. She was a native of Appling County. Ms. Beckworth was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. She was a hard worker, active farmer, dipping turpentine, welding at a shipyard in Brunswick and housekeeping at the Cloister on Sea Island. She was born Jan. 1, 1909 to the late Dora Pauline Mason and James Kenyon "J. K." Beckworth.
She is survived by one daughter, Diana Fiksman of Atlanta; one son, Henry Donald Smith of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jasper (Mary) Winn of Baxley, Axel (Emily) Fiksman of Atlanta and Micah (Josie) Fiksman of CA; and three great grandchildren, Alissa Winn, Ashley Winn and Sophia Fiksman.
Grave side services were held Saturday, Oct. 15 at 11:00 a.m. from Beckworth-Swinson cemetery with the Rev. Darrell Quinn officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
Virginia Hamilton Harrison
Virginia Hamilton Harrison, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005. Mrs. Harrison was born in Baxley to Ella Leggett and James Hamilton. With her husband of 58 years, she lived in Gainesville, Fla., Jesup, Waterford, Ireland; Florence, SC; Coshocton, OH, Atlanta; and Vancouver, British Columbia. For the past 12 years, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison have lived in Fernandina Beach, where Mrs. Harrison was active at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, serving on the vestry and as a diocesan delegate. She was an office volunteer and a lay Eucharistic minister. She was also a member of the Pastoral Care Committee and the Episcopal Church Women.
She is survived by her husband, Jack E. Harrison of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Harrison and Joseph O. Rogers of Columbia, SC; one son, James Hamilton Harrison of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Conor Harrison and Katie Phillips Harrison of Missoula, MT, Lauren Virginia Harrison of Gainesville, Fla., Phereby Kathleen Rogers and Patrick Harrison Rogers, both of Columbia, SC; and one brother, James Vance Hamilton of Greensboro, NC.
Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Fernandina Beach, Fla.

Robert Lewis Joiner
Robert Lewis Joiner, 63, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005 in Tennille after a short illness. He was born in Hampton, SC on August 24, 1942 and had resided in Baxley most of his life. Joiner was a mechanic and had worked for Hiers Company. He was the son of the late Mary Larisey and Henry Lewis Joiner.
He is survived by three daughters, Patricia Dubberly of Baxley, Tammy Evans of Baxley and Melissa Evans of Alma; one son, Robert Alvin Joiner of Baxley; six sisters, Beth Sharpe and Brenda Parker, both of Millen, Bertha Morgan of Swainsboro, Barbara Larisey Ethel Lahr, both of Millen and Ruby Jo Thomas of Charada, LA; four brothers, Henry Joiner of Tennille, Thomas Joiner of Kennesaw, Larry Joiner and Dean Larisey, both of Millen; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild also survives.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 17 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Bryant officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Zoar Cemetery.

Velma Louise Lamb
Velma Louise Lamb, 79, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005 at her daughter's residence in Lumber City after a long illness. She was born in Cobb County, Feb. 22, 1926 and had resided in Appling County for most of her life. Mrs. Lamb was a nurses aid and retired from the Appling County Health Care Systems and a member of Covenant Church of Baxley. She was the daughter of the late Minnie Brown and Dock Castell.
She is survived by six daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Jimmy Kerby of Savannah, Dawn and Sammy Sikes of Rome, Patricia Wiggins of Surrency, Sarah and Charles Kirkland of Jesup, Gladys and Wendell Mullis of Vidalia and Darlene and Billy Thigpen of Lumber City; one son, Rodney Crews of Rome; two sisters, Joyce Hutcheson of Claxton and Betty Ruth Cason of Leesburg; sixteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 2:00 p.m. from Covenant Church with the Rev. Jimmy Boatright and the Rev. Carl Rowell officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery in Surrency.

Janie Sue Latham
Janie Sue Latham, 51, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005 in the Hospice of Golden Isles in Brunswick. She was a life long resident of Appling County. Janie attended Covenant Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dareen Eason and Blair Franklin Latham, Jr.
She is survived by two sisters, Jean Latham of Brunswick and Rhonda Wolfe of Jesup; one nephew, Shawn (Briana) Stanley of Somerset, KY; one great niece, Graham Olivia Stanley of Somerset, KY; and one great nephew, Dillon Stanley of Jesup.
