Loretta Bullard Lightsey

Loretta Bullard Lightsey, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005 at her residence. She was a native of Polaski County but she had lived most of her life in Appling County. Loretta was a member of Midway Baptist Church and was a home maker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ida McKinney and Remus Bennett Bullard, Sr.; and a daughter, Carolyn Jones.
She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Iris (Roger) Aspinwall, Cynthia (Ronnie) Atkins and Elane Lightsey, all of Baxley and Cheri (Steve) Parrott of Bartlesville, OK; one step-daughter, Evon Satterfield of Atlanta; two step-sons, Lowell Lightsey and Buncum Lightsey, both of Atlanta; four sisters, Benez B. Hart, Lilly B. Webb and Laura B. Spivey, all of Baxley and Evelyn B. Lewis of Lovnia; one brother, Ronald (June) Bullard of Baxley; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 21 at 2:00 p.m. from Midway Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Williamson and Elder Jerry Lightsey officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Lance Atkins, Mark Atkins, Stephen Parrott, Daniel Parrott, Clay Aspinwall and Greg Satterfield.
Honorary pallbearers were Adult Ladies II Sunday School of Midway Baptist Church, Dr. Cezar and Staff, Altamaha Home Healthcare and Source.
Musical selections were rendered by Cecile Griffin, Deanna Rudd and Rick Herndon.
Arrangements were under the directions of Swain Funeral Home.

Leonard Theron Peacock

Leonard Theron Peacock, 65, of Surrency, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005 at his residence after a short illness. He was a native and life long resident of Appling County and a member of Surrency Community Bible Church. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a retired insurance agent. Peacock was preceded in death by his wife, Elleen Crosby Peacock and his parents, Louise Blanton and Troy Lee Peacock.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Stan Deen of Baxley; one son and daughter-in-law, Trooper First Class Mark and Julie Peacock of Eastman; and four grandchildren, Haley Deen, Aaron Deen, Jaid Sapp and Jaisley Peacock.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 16 at 3:00 p.m. from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Carlton Rowell, the Rev. Barry Teutsch, the Rev. David Griffin officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Red Oak Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Lawton Bullard, Jerry Kersey, Jim Blanton, Andrew Kersey, Randall Kersey and Tom Bellew.
Honorary pallbearers were Georgia State Patrol, Members of Surrency Community Bible Church and all friends in attendance.
Musical selections were rendered by the Surrency Community Bible Church Choir.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.

Jincy Turner Ryals

Jincy Turner Ryals, 85, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005 at the Appling HealthCare System after a short illness. She was a native of Appling County but had resided in Savannah for 50 years. Ms. Ryals was a member of Smith Street Baptist Church in Vidalia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Columbus Ryals. Ms. Ryals was employed with Bell South for 39 years as a telephone operator. She was born Sept. 15, 1920 to the late Eva Victoria Holland and Joseph L. Turner.
She is survived by her sister, Mildred Turner Butler of Baxley; two step-daughters, Linda Ryals Thomas of Charleston, SC and Martha Ryals King of Augusta; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Grave side services were held Monday, Oct. 17 at 1:00 p.m. in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure cemetery in Savannah with the Rev. Jimmy Smith officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.

Bryson Cole Lolley

Bryson Cole Lolley, two month old infant son of Britney and Brad Lolley died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005 in the Memorial Medical Center in Savannah. Bryson was born June 28 in Coffee County and had resided in Jeff Davis County since birth. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Woodrow Wilson Lolley, his maternal great-grandfather, Roger Wood, Sr. and his maternal great-great-grandfather, Jack Thompson, Sr.
He is survived by his parents, Britney and Brad Lolley; maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Shamane and Ronald LaRoche of Hazlehurst; maternal grandfather, Roger Wood, Jr.; paternal grandmother, Martha Lolley of Hazlehurst; special aunt, Marvie Rentz of Hazlehurst; maternal great-grandmother, Joyce Wood; maternal great-grandparents, Virginia and Dan Parrish, R.D. Farmer and Zula Mincey and the Rev. Roger and Shirley LaRoche, all of Hazlehurst; great-great-grandmother, LeeLee Thompson of Lumber City; God-mother, Megan Bookhardt; God-father, Anthony McNeal; and many aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
Funeral services were held at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Huling officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Shiloh Methodist Church cemetery in Wheeler County.
Active pallbearers were Gary Ursrey and Anthony McNeal.
Honorary pallbearers were all friends and family in attendance.
Musical selection was rendered by organist, Larry Varnadoe.

Robert Wolfe

Robert Wolfe, 69, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005 in the St. Joseph/Candler Health System in Savannah. He was born July 19, 1936 in Appling County and lived in Wisconsin until his retirement. Wolfe had resided in Baxley for the past 18 years. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. Wolfe was preceded in death by a daughter, Drenda Sue Shipes and four grandchildren. He was the son of the late Vertie O'Bright and Ben Wolfe.
He is survived by two daughters, Dianne Loughry of Baxley and Chandra Mayer of Wauwatosa, WI; two sons, Robert Wolfe, Jr. of Baxley and Richard Wolfe of Beloit, WI; three sisters, Helen Drawdy of Baxley, Jeanette Beckworth of Baxley and Linda Gale Murray of Blackshear; two brothers, Benjamin Wolfe of Twin Lakes, WI and Larry Wolfe of Baxley; special friend, Ruth L. Griffis; and ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with Elder Jerry Lightsey and the Rev. Dennie Hix officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Asbury Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Keith Beckworth, Jimmy Beckworth, Jesse Stone, Casey Tomberlin, Willard L. Lightsey, W.K. Eason and Steve Eason.
Honorary pallbearers were Bishop Randy and Pastor Agnes Sellers, Wendell and Janet Nail, Mr. and Mrs. Jamie Smith, Ruthel Griffis, Virgil Griffis, Murline Carter, Alene Beasley and Ilene Branch.

Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.

Doris Edward "Tunny" Spell, Sr.

Doris Edward "Tunny" Spell, Sr., 70, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005 in the Appling HealthCare System. He was a life long resident of Appling County. Spell was an Engineer with the Appling County Road Department. He was born Sept. 10, 1935 to the late Mildred Burke and William Early Spell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Lee Spaulding Spell.
He is survived by his children, Edward, Jr. and Bonnie Spell of Baxley, David and Kim Spell of Smithville, OH, Diane Spell, Richard Spell, Greg and Angie Spell, all of Baxley, Larry and Janice Spell of Jesup, Leonard Spell of Baxley and Terrie and Robert Schirg of Crestview, Fla.; mother, Mildred Spell of Baxley; three sisters and brother-in-law, Bobbie Walls, Barbara Fennell, both of Baxley and Jewel and Albert Lightsey of Rock Hill, SC; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Redius and Lanette Spell of Alma, Wilton and Gerrie Spell of Baxley and Burnice and Brenda Spell of Albany; 19 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 3:00 p.m. from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Wiggins and Jerry Williams officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Zoar Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Edward Spell, Jr., David Spell, Richard Spell, Larry Spell, Greg Spell, Leonard Spell, Robert Schirg and Daniel Davenport.
Honorary pallbearers were Billy DeLoach, Delmar Mosley, Benny DeLoach, Chuck Mosley, Willie Reese, Gail Williams, Dale Spell, Emory and Shirley Sellers, Buster Hampton, Charles Spell, James Spell, FCI Employees and Dr. Robert Clark.
Musical selections were rendered by Floyd Hunter, David Williams and Dale Spell.

Willene Archer

Willene Archer, 66, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005 in Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. She was born March 14, 1939 in Appling County and had resided in Dahlonega before moving to Savannah seven years ago. Mrs. Archer was employed by Bass Pro Shops and was a member of Chevis Oaks Baptist Church in Savannah. She was the daughter of the late Ida Taylor and Evan Courson.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Donna L. and Michael Gallagher of Savannah; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Kathy Archer of Cummings; three sisters, Christine Fields of Port Wentworth, Birteen Creamer of Baxley and Jean Caspar of Macon; six grandchildren, Richard Archer, David Archer, Aaron Archer, Jase Gallagher, Ian Gallagher and Kylynn Gallagher.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Self officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Pine Level Church cemetery in Bacon County.
Active pallbearers were Kimball Courson, Bryan Carelock, Dane Creamer, Howard Crosby, Robbie Fields, Danny Creamer, Ricky Fields and Randy Fields.
Honorary pallbearers were all friends attending the funeral service.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.

Ella S. Cromer

Ella S. Cromer, 76, died Sunday, August 14, 2005 in Baptist Village in Waycross after a short illness. She was a native of Ware County, but had lived in Appling County for most of her life. Ella was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Cromer and parents, Araminta Pead and Barney Sweat.
She is survived by three daughters, Susan (George) Thomas of Baxley, Fran (Bobby) Leitch of Folkston and Jan Nightingale of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren, Adam Thomas, Andy Dickerson, Douglas Nightingale, Billy Joe Leitch, Pollie Wells and Lauren Nightingale.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 16 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Meadows and the Rev. Tommy Jordan officiating. iIntermentfollowed at 2:30 at Oakland cemetery in Waycross.
Active pallbearers were Adam Thomas, Andy Dickerson, Douglas Nightingale, Billy Joe Leitch, Alan Singer and Keith Martin.
Musical selections were rendered by the Rev. Tommy Jordan and Claire Tanner.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 15 North Main St., Baxley, GA 31513.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.

Richard Lee
Platt, Sr.

Richard Lee Platt, Sr., 53, died Thursday, August 11, 2005 at his residence. He was a native of Clermont, Fla. Richard had lived in Baxley for the past five years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Wesley Sunday School Class. Richard was an assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 472. He was an Emergency Dispatcher for 17 years with the Polk County Emergency Services in Bartow, Fla. and spent several years as a volunteer on the Polk County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Dive Team.
Survivors include his wife, Cherry Platt, daughter, Angela Platt, two sons, Richard "Ricky" Platt, all of Baxley and Jason Platt of Lakeland, Fla.; parents, Mary Ruth Fussell and Charles Nathan Platt of Lakeland, Fla.; sister, Janiee Jackson of Winter Haven, Fla.; one brother, Charles Edward Platt of Mulberry, Fla.; three nieces and three nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 14 at 4:00 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randy Mosley and Calvin Morris officiating. iIntermentfollowed Monday, August 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Pellicer Creek cemetery in St. Johns County, Fla.
Active pallbearers were Charles Stone, Gary Hanson, Gene Pride, Brad Park, Jimmy Allen and Holt Sellers.
Honorary pallbearers were Boy Scout Troop 472 and the Wesley Sunday School Class of First United Methodist Church.
Musical selections were rendered by Jennifer Davis, Karen Davis, Bill Bowers and the congregation.
