Frances C. Stone
Frances C. Stone, 74, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005 in the Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. She was born July 12, 1931 in Appling County and had resided here all of her life. Frances was a home maker and was a charter member of the Faith Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church and she blessed the congregation many times with her beautiful voice, as she sang the gospel hymns she loved so well. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Shirley Stone and two brothers, Earl Carter and Benny Carter. She was the daughter of the late Inez Johnson and Earl Carter.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Allen Pfau of Baxley; a son and daughter-in-law, Freddie and Terry Stone of Hazlehurst; a brother, Billy Carter of Baxley; and two grandsons, Chris Stone and Matthew Stone, both of Hazlehurst.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 13 in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Conger, the Rev. Barry Teutsch and the Rev. Wayne Williamson officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Friendship Congregational Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Randy Carter, Jeffery Carter, Kevin Horne, Johnny Clance, Daniel McNeal, Benny Michael Carter, Kenny Ray Johnson, Robert Johnson and Jerry Gruber.
Honorary pallbearers were Debbie and Bill McGuire, Donnie Sikes, Jr., Jimmy and Emmie Lee Stone, Mollie Jane Herndon, Jimmy and Connie Miles, Karen and Larry Carter, Craig Stone and Michael Cleland and all friends attending the funeral service.
Musical selections were rendered by Ann and Bobby Jones, Mike Cleland, Bill Mincey, Glenn Beach and Vickie Dyal.

William A. Tillman
William A. Tillman, an attorney in Houston, TX, for over 38 years, passed away on Aug. 18, 2005, surrounded by his family at home in Missouri City. He was born in Baxley on Dec. 24, 1926 and was the son of R.R. Tillman and Verda O'Quinn Tillman. Bill attended South Georgia College and graduated from Texas Tech University. He played both basketball and football in college, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1949.
He was a graduate of South Texas College of Law and practiced general law in Houston, TX, for over 38 years. During his career, Bill was known to have helped many in need and was honored on numerous occasions for his service to the community and to his church. He was devoted to his family and to his friends. He will be remembered for his many acts of kindness to others and his tremendous capacity to love.
Bill and Thelma were members of Riverbend Country Club for over 30 years, where Bill was honored recently for his contributions. The Tillmans were members of the First United Methodist Church at West Chase Campus in Houston, TX.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma; sons, Victor of Houston and James (Suzanne) of Plano; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Welda Mitchell, Sara Sellers and Brenda Jowers; one brother, Max Tillman.
Grave side service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20 at Bethel Church cemetery in Appling County with the Rev. Ken Banker officiating. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 at the First United Methodist Church at West Chase Campus in Houston.

Caroline Elizabeth Collins
Caroline Elizabeth Collins, infant daughter of Joshua and Jennifer Collins, died Monday, July 18, 2005. The mother is the former Jennifer Stuckey.
Paternal grandparents are Darlene and Steve Snyder of Sylvania and Leonard, Jr. and Marian Collins of Barnwell, SC.
Maternal grandparents are Susie and Charlie Stuckey of Baxley.
Paternal great-grandparents are Elise and Fred Jenkins, Jr. of Sylvania and Thelma and Bob Steele of Rocky Ford.
Maternal great-grandmother is Rosalie DeLoach of Tybee Island. Aunts: Emily Stuckey of Baxley and Kimberly Collins of Sylvania.
Grave side services were held Thursday, July 21 at Screven County Memorial cemetery in Sylvania with the Rev. Lonnie Norris officiating.

The Rev. Ken E. Derrington
The Rev. Ken E. Derrington, 82, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah. He was born Nov. 16, 1922 to the late Edward Royal Derrington and the late Rosalie Belle Freeman Derrington. The Rev. Mr. Derrington was a native of Pueblo, CO and had lived in Baxley for the past 7-1/2 years. He was a pastor of various Baptist Churches for 45 years. The Rev. Mr. Derrington was a retired Chief Petty Officer with the U.S. Navy. During his 20 year career, he served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife, Etta L. Derrington of Baxley; one son, Kenneth R. Derrington of Tallahassee, Fla.; two grandsons, Michael B. Derrington and the Rev. Jonathan E. Derrington; and a great-grandson, Cameron B. Derrington.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 20 at 11:00 a.m. from Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Conger and the Rev. Charles Crummey officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Satilla Baptist Church Cemetery.

Nathaniel Roosevelt Hall
Nathaniel Roosevelt Hall, 78, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2005 in Greenville, SC. He was born in Baxley on April 13, 1927. His parents were the late Theodore and Agnes (Horne) Hall. His formal education was obtained from the Baxley Training School. Nathaniel joined and received his baptism from the Church of Christ Holiness Unto the Lord at age 17. His employment history include Filtered Rosin in Baxley and Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, CT, from which he retired after 32 years. Nathaniel was a master chess player and always enjoyed a pot of good black coffee.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Gertis.
Survivors include his estranged wife, Eloise of Baxley, four daughters, Sandra Rayner of Cocoa, Fla., Delilah Lewis (Bill) of Champaign, IL, Glenda Williams (Michael) of Cocoa, Fla. and Aretha Adams (Tim) of Orlando, Fla.; two sons, Benjamin of Los Angeles, CA and Paul (Pearlie) of Baxley; two sisters, Lillian Hicks of South Norwalk, CT and Mary Rayner (Jack) of Baxley; four brothers, Robert of South Norwalk, CT, Alonzo of Bridgeport, CT, Eugene of Baxley and Carroll (Pat) of Macon; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 16 at 1:00 p.m. from the Church of Christ, Holiness Unto the Lord in Baxley with Elder Michael Rayner officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Old Field cemetery in Appling County.
Musical selections were rendered by Marcus Rayner, Tammie Byrd and Jason Powell.

Theresa E. Kotzke
Theresa E. Kotzke, 82, of Hazlehurst, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at her residence after a short illness. She as a native of Detroit, MI, but had lived in Appling County for the past year. Theresa was a homemaker and worked as a Riveter during World War II. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick J. Kotzke, her parents, William and Emma Stroshal Everding and a grandson, Brandon Jacob Beverley.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine and Donnie Beverley of Surrency and Pamela and Donald Smith of Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
Lucille Padgett
Lucille Padgett, 93, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2005 in the Appling Convalescent Center. She was a native of Wilcox County. Lucille had lived in Appling County most of her life. She was a member of Phillipi Baptist Church where she served as pianist for many years. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Clint Padgett and parents, John Allen Worley and Elmina Cason Worley.
She is survived by one daughters and son-in-law, Wanda and Billy Eason of Baxley; two granddaughters, Gina Eason and Robin (Mitch) Crosby, all of Baxley; three great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Caleb and Camryn Crosby, all of Baxley.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 22 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Meadows and the Rev. Raymond Chauncey officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Baxley Graveyard Cemetery.

Oron Elma Dixon
Oron Elma Dixon, 94, died Friday, July 8, 2005 in the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Atlantis, Fla. She was a native of Cottondale, Ala. and had resided in Appling County before moving to Lake Worth, Fla. seven years ago. Mrs. Dixon was a homemaker and a member of Friendship Congregational Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, D.D. Dixon and a sister, Jewel Ramsey. She was the daughter of the late Thomas M. Gaston and Alice Bell Jones Gaston.
She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Lee Coleman of Lake Worth, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Teutsch officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Omega Cemetery.

Wesley Thomas Foskey
Wesley Thomas Foskey, 62, died Monday, July 11, 2005 at his residence. He was a native and life long resident of Appling County. Foskey attended Woodlawn Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Bessie Mae Beckworth Foskey and one brother, James Kenneth Foskey.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Leslie Foskey and Rodney Amerson of Dublin; one son and daughter-in-law, Wesley Thomas Foskey, JR. and Kim Foskey of Eastman; three sisters, Jean Bentley of Jacksonville, Fla. Ann Carter of St. Mary's and Helen Foskey of Baxley; one brother, Wayne Foskey of St. Mary's; six grandchildren, Will Purvis, Kelby Amerson, Landon Amerson, John-Wesley Foskey, Randi Foskey and Luke Foskey; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Jane Hodgins
Jane Hodgins, 54, of Vidalia, died Saturday, July 9, 2005 in the St. Joseph-Candler Hospital of Savannah after an extended illness. Mrs. Hodgins was a native of Appling County and had resided in Vidalia for the past 30 years. She was employed by The Refuge and was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Vidalia. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dennie Floyd.
Survivors include her husband, Steve Hodgins of Vidalia; two daughters, Jessica Kight and her husband, Randy of Vidalia and Angela Williams and her husband, Joel of Lyons; two sons, Randall and George Hodgins, both of Vidalia; one sister, Mary Eris and her husband, Nick of Pensacola, Fla.; one brother, Randall Floyd of Augusta; and four grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 11 at 2:00 p.m. from the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Vidalia with the pastor, the Rev. Murray Ward and the Rev. Gary Roberson officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
