SYLVESTER — Kenneth (Ken) Courter, 73, of Sumner, died Saturday, February 4, 2006 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Banks Funeral Home Chapel in Sylvester, with burial to follow in Crown Hill cemetery in Albany. The Rev. Anthony Deen officiating.
Born in Nebraska City, Nebraska, on November 17, 1932, Mr. Courter is the son of the late Kenneth Stanley Courter Sr. and Elsie Courter. He had lived in Worth County since 1982, moving here from Albany. He was a retired Tech Sgt. with the U.S. Air Force, serving 20 years. He served two tours in Korea and Vietnam. He was previously stationed at Turner Air Force Base in Albany and retired at Robins Air Force Base. He was previously employed with Bobcat of Albany and Ditch Witch of Albany. He was last employed with State Department of Corrections in Moultrie. He loved going to McDonald's and enjoying being with his friends enjoying their coffee and fellowship. He was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Albany. He is the widow of Ollie Mae Coker Courter, who died September 20, 2001.
Survivors include two sons and two daughters-in-law, Joseph "Joe" Stanley Courter (Libby) of Brunswick, and Stan Courter (Elaine) of Sumner; three daughters, Martha Jo Boyd Brown of Dougherty County, Joyce Ann Means of Atlanta, and Kathy Merritt of Montgomery, AL; seven grandchildren, Joey Courter, Chris Starr, Kelly Courter, Kenneth S. Courter IV, Robert Alan Courter, Sherri Boyd, and Stacey Dugger; three great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Sue Shiver of Sylvester.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Courter was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Courter.

ALBANY — H. Lawton Finney Jr. of Albany, died Saturday, February 4, 2006 at Palmyra Medical Centers.
He grew up in Haddock, Jones County, Georgia, and was educated in Macon. He served as a control tower operator in the Air Force during World War II. He was a sales representatives for Peeler Hardware and Sporting Goods in Southwest Georgia for 28 years, retiring in 1984.
Mr. Finney was a member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church since 1958, a member of the Sojourners Sunday School Class, the Walter H. Burt American Legion Post No. 30, and the Albany Golden K Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Finney of Albany; two daughters and their spouses, Mary Jane Sharp (Stan) of Albany, and Carolyn White (Buddy) of Havana, FL; and five grandchildren and their spouses, Cristen Everett (Mike), Jackson Pennington (Meredith), Mary Elizabeth Sharp, all of Albany, Brooks Hosey (Jody) and Jacob Finney White, all of Tallahassee, FL. He was also the great-grandfather of four.
His funeral service will be at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church on Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at 11 a.m. The Revs. Nathan Godley and Nancy Scarbrough will officiate. The interment will be private.
The family will receive friends in the parlor at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Hadley was born November 17, 1961 in Bainbridge, GA, to Maxie Scott Palmer and Grace Earl Henderson Palmer. She was employed as a cashier at Harvey's at Five Points and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Mitchell County.

Mr. Alderman was born May 22, 1914 in Moultrie, GA, the son of John Richard Alderman and Minnie Manning Alderman. He graduated from Moultrie High School and was an U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He owned and operated the family retail clothing store, Alderman's in Bainbridge since 1956. He was a member of First Baptist Church, V.F.W. Post No. 4904, and Orion Lodge No. 8 F. & A.M..
Survivors include his wife, Una Mae Brooks Alderman of Bainbridge; a son, John R. Alderman III of Bainbridge; three daughters, Shirley D. Alderman, Sandra M. Alderman and Sharon J. Alderman, all of Bainbridge; a sister, Ellen Alderman Gunnels of Tallahassee, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Anthony was born on April 23, 1984 in West Palm Beach, FL. He was the son of Jean Patricia Lovell Brown and the Rev. Dion Lyle Brown of Meigs. He was a student at Georgia Southern University, where he was majoring in Construction Management. Anthony was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at Georgia Southern University. He was a 2002 graduate of Pelham High School, where he played for the Pelham Hornets Football Team, also a member of the baseball, basketball and track teams. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.
